Bards, Favored Souls, and Sorcerers must memorize spells for character creation and leveling up. However, unlike D and D, they do not have the option to swap older spells for newer ones at level up. After a Cleric, Paladin, Ranger, or Wizard rests, they must choose spells to prepare and cast until they rest.
DDO has three ways of memorizing spells: Wizards, alchemists, and artificers get a spellbook, which can add new spells. Swapping a spell is done by a trainer, and the prior spell is no longer in the spellbook. The primary reason to swap spells is to deal with monsters who are immune to the spells being used. A sorcerer at level 12 doesn’t often need to worry about this.
To prepare a spell, players need to be in a tavern or have just rested at a shrine. To change from one savant to another, players can get a Blood of Dragons to switch their spells from the argonessen patron for favor. After a Cleric, Paladin, and Wizard, players can swap spells every three days with their class’ trainer.
A new VIP perk related to spell swapping is added, allowing players to swap spells in any public area while being VIP. Bards, Favored Souls, and Sorcerers can freely exchange spells at their trainer for one hour. They must undergo a special ritual that can only be done once every few days with the help of a trainer.
In summary, DDO allows Bards, Favored Souls, and Sorcerers to memorize and use spells during character creation and leveling up.
