Tarot cards may be sticking together due to lack of clearing or cleaning. Clearing the energy causing the sticking and physically cleaning your deck using fanning powder can help prevent them from getting sticky. Tarot is about the balance of energy in life, and what a reading reveals is not fortune, despite popular culture.
To make your deck more slippery, use Dark Mansion tarot, a makeup brush, and cornstarch. Fanning powder, a white powder made of zinc stearate and other ingredients, can help make the cards stick together in a good way. If the “old deck slap” method doesn’t work, try keeping the cards out of too much humidity, which tends to bend and/or stick the cards together over time. Washing your hands directly before using the cards is also recommended.
There are several ways to take care of your beloved tarot cards, including clearing your deck of unwanted or negative energy through visualizations, smudging, and using magician’s fanning powder. Spread the cards as best you can and sprinkle the powder across them. Use a soft cloth or dry paper towel to wipe each card on both sides with the fanning powder, being careful not to spill it on the ground as some animals can find this slightly toxic to ingest.
A mixture of flour and cornstarch can be used to mix the cards and then brush off with a cloth (denim is good). Some people recommend expensive magician’s fanning powder, but being on a budget, unperfumed talc can be used instead.
In summary, clearing your deck of unwanted or negative energy through visualizations, smudging, and using fanning powder can help prevent the cards from sticking together. However, it’s important to be cautious when using talcum powder, as it can be toxic to some animals.
📹 Sticky or smelly card-stock? Quick tip without using powder
Learn from my trial and errors. Powder is not fun to work with. Do this. Damp cards? Wipe them down with a micro fiber cloth.
How do you neutralize tarot cards?
In order to achieve the most beneficial outcomes, it is recommended to utilize natural salts, such as sea salt or Himalayan salt, in lieu of table salt. The use of a singing bowl in conjunction with a tarot deck has been demonstrated to facilitate the cleansing of unwanted energies and the soothing of the soul. It is recommended to focus on the production of happy sounds in order to achieve a positive charge. The bowl should be held in the hand, with the mallet used to guide the instrument around the rim.
How to make cards less sticky?
Cornstarch is a highly versatile substance that can be employed for a multitude of purposes, including culinary applications, the removal of spills, the mitigation of squeaky floors, and the untying of knots. Additionally, cornstarch can be employed to eliminate residual adhesives from playing cards. This is achieved by placing the cards in a paper bag with a few teaspoons of cornstarch, agitating the bag, and then wiping them clean. This method effectively absorbs oils and residue without causing any damage to the cards.
Should you knock on your tarot cards?
Before pulling tarot cards, it is recommended to cleanse your deck by knocking on it to clear previous energy and rearranging the cards in their order. Other ways to cleanse your deck include bathing it under a full moon, using smoke-clearing sage, or placing Selenite wands around it. Before pulling a tarot card, it is crucial to ask yourself the intention, whether it is to inspire a next step, make a decision, or validate your feelings. Clearing your deck helps the cards make sense and provide a clear understanding of what you are hoping to gain from the reading.
How to unstick sticky cards?
If your deck of cards is sticking together due to a gummy coating or specialized edging, try freezing it in a zip lock bag for 3-4 hours. Once removed, gently slap and fan the deck to ensure it is ready to read. If the issue is with a colder temperature, keep handling the deck until it warms up, or place it in your pocket and carry it around your torso. Steam-treating a cold deck is not recommended, as it will not spread or shuffle easily like a warm deck.
If the problem is with oil from your hands, wash your hands and shuffle the cards to spread the existing oils over the entire deck. Sometimes, spreading the oil evenly by deliberately handling all the cards is enough, but sometimes additional steps are needed.

How do you dry out cards?
To preserve your playing card deck, store it in the fridge for a few hours to restore its shape and dry out moisture. This method is common among card collectors, but it may not be suitable for expensive cards. Despite the potential for a longer lifespan, it’s crucial to remember that playing cards are just paper and eventually need replacement. Professional magicians often use new decks of cards at every show or gig to avoid appearing unprofessional.
Standard playing cards like Bicycle Playing Cards are affordable and can be purchased in bulk or “bricks” of 12 decks to save money. By following these tips, you can make your playing cards last longer and save money on your magic journey.
Why do my tarot cards feel sticky?
Tarot cards can become sticky due to the oils on your hands, which can be caused by multiple readings or keeping the deck nearby. To prevent this, wrap the cards in a ziplock bag with fanning powder, a technique commonly used by magicians to break in their decks for card tricks. This will prevent the cards from sticking together and make them easier to pull when needed. Washing your hands before using the deck is also recommended, but it’s important to use fanning powder to prevent the deck from becoming sticky.
Is it OK to pull tarot cards for yourself?
Tarot readings can be done by beginners, providing insight into current situations, honoring intuition, and forecasting potential outcomes. To begin, clean the energy of your space by burning herbs, ringing bells or chimes, taking a bath, or using crystals. A Selenite wand is a popular energy refresher that aids clarity.
Sit comfortably and close your eyes, focusing on the protective energy surrounding you. Take deep breaths, think about your question or needing guidance, and keep your mind and heart open to the answers that may come through the cards. Shuffle the deck, focusing on your desired query, and shuffle the cards in front of you. The pattern laid out is called a “spread”, and the meaning of each card in combinations builds up to the overall answer to your query.
Before beginning to shuffle, know which spread you will be working with. As answers come through, it’s important to draw additional cards for further clarity or start with a new question from a different perspective. Tarot readings can be a powerful tool for personal growth and understanding.
How do you get stickiness off cards?
To remove stubborn sticker residue from surfaces, soak a cloth or paper towel in dissolving white vinegar and let it soak for a few minutes. Wipe or scrape the residue to remove it. Avoid using putty knives or metal blades as they can scratch the surface. Use your fingers to remove as much residue as possible, roll the adhesive into balls, and pluck them off. Test the surface in an inconspicuous area to ensure the technique doesn’t stain or cause damage.
What is the proper way to turn over tarot cards?
The overhand shuffle is executed by holding the deck in the non-dominant hand, with the fingers positioned on the shorter edges and the thumb on the longer edge.
How do you dry tarot cards?
To clear a deck, one must first place the cards face-down on a table, then proceed to “smoosh” them together. Finally, the cards must be gathered back into a deck. The deck should be rapped on and the knuckles pressed into it. It should then be left overnight in the light of a full moon, and purified by passing it through smoke from cleansing incense.
📹 Sticky Tarot Decks – how to “unstick” them to help shuffling
I share one economical way to quickly and easily make your tarot cards more slippery, using my Dark Mansion tarot, a makeup …
wish this would work on decks that the cards totally stick to each other, but some of them tear the whole card just trying to separate them right out of the box. I had 2 decks that never would separate so it sent em back, its all you can do. I hate the glittery ones too, it gets everywhere of the shiny sided decks. Bad printing if you ask me. If I was doing a deck I sure would make sure the deck worked before I would let them run the print lot. Not everyone has ethics or pride in their work it seems. Oh well. It is what it is.
Used good old regular cornstarch from my kitchen and it worked like a charm ♥️ I have the same deck and at first I thought I wasn’t going to connect with it just because shuffling was so awkward with all the stickiness but I am so obsessed with shuffling it now. The difference is massive, thank you! ♥️ PS after coating my cards, I used a clean makeup brush to go over each card again with circular motions just to “buff in” the cornstarch and sweep away all the excess. It was so satisfying to watch the brush reveal how vibrant all the colors are beneath that layer of dust. 10/10 recommend for the therapeutic experience 😂
Had the same problem with Dark Mansion deck. Tried many things, fanning powder as well. Improved a bit, but the powder covered the cards as a film. Wiping didn’t help a lot. The deck still leaves my hands a bit sticky after using it. Will try again soon. May be another try will remove the old film as well )))
