This article teaches how to connect the latest Magic Keyboard to a Mac, including all current models of desktop Macs and MacBooks. To do this, enable Bluetooth on your device and connect it to your Mac using a USB-C to Lightning Cable or a USB-C to Lightning cable. If you haven’t set up your devices, connect a Lightning to USB Cable or a USB-C to Lightning.
When connecting your keyboard, mouse, or trackpad to your Mac, it automatically connects with the Mac using Bluetooth. Connect one end of a Lightning to USB Cable to your Mac, then choose Apple menu > System Settings (or System Preferences), then click Bluetooth. When your device appears in Bluetooth preferences, click Connect. If asked for a passcode, enter it on the keyboard you’re setting up and press Return on the same keyboard.
If you’ve already paired your keyboard with a different device, you can plug it into the Mac using a USB to Lightning cable. To pair a Magic Keyboard to your Mac, iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV, enable Bluetooth and press the power button on the keyboard. Connect your Magic Keyboard to your MacBook with the USB-C to Lightning cable to first pair it. Click Apple Logo > System Preferences.
To pair your keyboard, enter a given numeric code on the Apple Wireless Keyboard and press return. Enter 1234 on an existing main keyboard (can be the on-screen keyboard) to complete the process.
