In Divinity: Original Sin 2, players acquire and learn new skills and spells through skill books, which can be found in various locations such as the King Crab, marketplace, and legion headquarters. Spellbooks are commonly sold by vendors and can be used to obtain their corresponding spells. Character creation is the only time you can get skills “for free”. Skill books have prerequisites of skill level, and at certain level intervals, vendors receive more spells. Level 4 is one of those intervals.
In Fort Joy, the dreamer lizard sells pyro skills. Players can respec their characters freely, so there’s no need to worry about missing a skill point. Each character, whether the hero or an opponent, may perform special attacks and cast spells, which requires special Ability points and obtaining special skills. Skill Books are the primary method for learning new skills, and players can purchase or find them as they progress the game. Crafting a new skill involves combining a Skill Book from one of the elemental schools (Aerotheurge, Geomancer, Hydrosophist, and Pyrokinetic) with one from a non-elemental school.
Some quests grant spells, but players must buy or steal them. They can also craft them. Skills are learned permanently by reading Skill Books, either purchased or stolen from vendors or found scattered throughout the world. The best skills in Divinity include Dragon’s Blaze, rogue-buffing Assassinate, and the Gloves of Teleportation.
When the hotbar is full, spells that a wizard learns are stored in the book. Players can also learn new spells by completing quests and acquiring new skills.
