What is a grim dark Book?
Grimdark is a subgenre of speculative fiction with a dystopian, amoral, and violent tone, style, or setting. It is inspired by the tagline of the tabletop strategy game Warhammer 40, 000: “In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war”. Grimdark is often described as fiction where nobody is honorable and Might is Right, focusing on the harsh, brutal, and short, dark life of medieval times. It has little to do with re-imagining historic reality but rather conveying the sense that our world is a cynical, disillusioned, and ultraviolent place.
Grimdark fantasy has three key components: a grim and dark tone, a sense of realism, and the agency of the protagonists. In contrast to high fantasy, which revolves around the heroes defeating the Dark Lord, grimdark is “fantasy protestantism” where characters have to choose between good and evil and are “just as lost as we are”. Liz Bourke considers grimdark’s defining characteristic to be a retreat into the valorisation of darkness for darkness’s sake, portraying right action as either impossible or futile, absolving the protagonists and the reader from moral responsibility. Helen Young equates grimdark to gritty fantasy, as exemplified by George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series.
What is a Wiccan book of shadows?
A Book of Shadows is a book containing religious text and instructions for magical rituals found within the Neopagan religion of Wicca. It was created by pioneering Wiccan Gerald Gardner in the late 1940s or early 1950s and is used in various pagan practices and paths. The Book of Shadows is also used by other Wiccan traditions, such as Alexandrian Wicca and Mohsianism. With the rise of books teaching people how to follow non-initiatory Wicca in the 1970s, the idea of the Book of Shadows was further propagated among solitary practitioners unconnected to earlier, initiatory traditions.
Initially, only one copy of the Book existed for an entire coven, kept by the high priestess or high priest. However, this rule has since been unfeasible, and it is now commonplace for all Witches to have their own copies. In the various traditions that make up British Traditional Wicca, copies of the original Book composed by Gerald Gardner with the help of his High Priestess Doreen Valiente, along with alterations and additions, are followed by adherents.
Numerous associations and traditions have grown around the Book of Shadows, with a Witch’s book of shadows traditionally destroyed upon death. It can be an experimental practice, everyday ritual works, or a record of magic, and can be used in future rituals. The concept of the Book of Shadows has also appeared in popular culture, such as the American television series Charmed.

In Vermintide, there are two types of books: Tomes and Grimoires, which provide an improved die for the final roll of Ranald’s Bones. Tomes are found in set locations within the main missions of the campaign, usually three per mission. A Tome takes the slot for your healing item, and each Tome replaces one of your dice with an improved die. If players complete a mission while carrying a tome in their item slot, all players have one of their loot dies boosted in quality, with four “success” faces instead of the normal two. Books are usually hidden in out-of-the-way places and require exploration to find.

📹 A Witch’s Bullet Journal – 2022 Set Up

Wheel of the year spread was FIRE!! I also collect sticks you are not alone!! XD that’s a really beutiful way of observing, because even if there’s no “ritual” there’s the ‘ritual’ of stick collecting, and you never know it may turn into something else like making something out of the sticks! you never know. that’s a really beautiful spread great job! 😀
So good ❤️ I love that surrender wheel spread. So much on there but it looks great. So useful! Funny all the astrology themed goal setting. I’ve approached my goals through the lens of astrology this year too, but more through the time lord and which houses are particularly active, rather than a seasonal approach. Fun 🌟
ooooh I like the new intro. I worked hard this year and saved up enough for an archer and olive notebook and I’m soooooo excited. I might use some of your ideas because I’m feeling very disconnected from my craft and I can’t think of a way to do that, that won’t overwhelm myself. It also doesn’t help that my depression always get worse around the full moon. My plan is to pull at least one card per full/new moon. I know its simple compared to your glorious trackers but I thought we could keep each other accountable!
I am in the thinking about planning stage! Really there are a few spreads you did here that I am interested in recreating in my own way! I love that idea of the wheel of the year one and the Astrological months! I’m also like you in a way that I go through about four Books a year so I was like four books = four seasons? hmm yes!! So yeah I am going for that vibe with mine this year! Great word of the year and good on you to allow and surrender this time!
I just watched your article a few hours ago and what you said about Surrender was resonating with me, as I’ve been wrestling with a decision that only I can make. Since tonight is the full moon, I decided to pull just one card and go from there, since I haven’t done that since March. Wouldn’t you know, I pulled The Hanged Man?
