How To Use A Horoscope To Identify Benefic And Malefic Planets?

In astrology, benefic and malefic planets play a crucial role in shaping our cosmic destiny. The Benefic and Malefic Planets Calculator analyzes an individual’s birth details and applies astrological principles to categorize planets as either benefic or malefic. Saturn, Mars, Rahu, and Ketu are considered malefic planets, while the Sun is also malefic but not as damaging.

The positive influence of benefic planets like Venus and Jupiter can balance our outlook during dark times, while the challenging energy of malefic planets like Mars and Saturn connect us to our purpose and engender awareness. To find benefic and malefic planets, consider the natural significance of the planet and its role in our lives.

Benefic planets include the Moon, Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury, while Sun, Mars, and Venus are considered natural benefic planets. Jupiter, Venus, well-placed Mercury, and waxing Moon are benefic planets that are directly supportive and constructive in a native’s life. Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and the Sun are malefic planets, while Mercury and Ketu are neutral.

In summary, benefic planets in astrology represent positive or negative influences, while malefic planets symbolize negative or negative influences. Mars and Sarurn are malefic planets by nature, while Jupiter and Venus are benefic. Moon, Mercury, and Sun are neither naturally one or another but can be benefic. Understanding the roles of these planets in our lives can help us navigate our cosmic destiny and align with our purpose.

This astrology video explains in a simple manner how to see functional malefics and functional benefics in vedic astrology.

What are the malefic and benefic zodiac signs?

The seven planets in our solar system have unique astrological traits and are classified into two groups: benefic and malefic planets. In Vedic astrology and Greek mythology, benefic planets represent positive influences, while malefic planets are negative and challenging. In Western astrology, benefic planets are less heavily considered but are helpful in understanding birth charts and astrological transits.

Venus and Jupiter are benefics due to their positive impact, while Mars and Saturn are malefics due to their potential for intense and stressful events. Understanding these planets is essential for a better understanding of one’s birth chart and astrological transits.

How to know if Mars is malefic?

Mars, a malefic planet, governs the zodiac signs Scorpio and Aries, known for their reactive and argumentative nature. It is less effective when placed in the opposite signs, such as Libra or Taurus, or in the earth sign Capricorn. Mars is also the creative life force, governing physical energy, stamina, and assertiveness. It can indicate how we approach competition and confrontations, channel aggression, and provide insight into hobbies, passions, talents, and exercise preferences.

Mars spends six to seven weeks in one zodiac sign, depending on the retrograde phase, which occurs every two years. During this phase, Mars moves backward in the sky, causing a temporary shift in how we express our desires, motivations, and assertiveness. This can cause progress to slow down, especially for Mars-ruled zodiac signs like Scorpio and Aries, as these placements are most affected.

Which planets are malefic and benefic?

In astrological practice, the term “benefic” is used to describe planets that are believed to have a positive influence on an individual’s life. These include the Moon, Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury. In contrast, the term “malefic” is used to describe planets that are thought to have a detrimental effect on an individual’s life. This group of planets includes the Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu. The influence of malefic planets is typically observed in horoscopes and is associated with adverse effects on an individual.

In a person’s birth chart, the Sun, Moon, Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, and Saturn are regarded as prominent and influential celestial bodies. In order to ascertain the presence of a malefic planet, it is advisable to consult a horoscope.

The table demonstrates that planets placed in the signs of friendly planets or with friendly planets tend to produce positive results. Conversely, planets situated in the sign of enemy planets or with enemy planets tend to produce diminished positive results. For instance, if a planet is in the sign of Saturn or with Saturn, it will not yield good results. Is Rahu always malefic?

  • Kendradipati Lords neutrals behave accd to their association 1,4,7,10 Lord of trine always benefic, 1,5,9 Lord of trishadaya always malefic 3,6,11 Eighth Lord changes color very fast. With trishada connection bitter malefic, owns trine n trishadaya benefic Trishada trik combine bitter malefic 8 Lord ownership does not apply to sun or moon. It will not become marak, but association with trishadaya result it will giv

  • Dear Sir, Thank you very much for this informative and enjoyable article. I have a question, which I hope you will be inclined to answer. At the 33:00 mark in the article, the table shows that Jupiter is a functional benefic for Cancer lagna. Given the rule for the 9th house lord (that it is always benefic) and the rule for the 6th house lord (that it is always malefic), how do you conclude from this that Jupiter is a functional benefic? Thank you for considering this question. Thanks again for everything.

  • Well this is brilliant as always. Thank you so much Shri VP Goel ji and Saptarishi Astrology! Just one question: In case of Aries Lagna; Venus being 2nd and 7th lord is marak, however since it owns 7th and 2nd house it must also become neutral. So would that mean that if Venus has association with benefics (in this case Sun/Jupiter), it would become a benefic? and if it is associated with malefics (in this case Mercury/Saturn) it would become malefic? In either case, will it retain being a marak or will the effects change if its benefic/malefic? Or am I getting something wrong? It’ll be very helpful if someone could explain. Thanks

  • @17:02, Goel sir said, 11th lord is in malefic house then it will give gains.. So if I understood it correctly for Makar Lagna, If Mars is in 12th house alone then it will give gains .. As Mars is the lord of 11th and 4rth houses so naturally it will become malefic but, as it is placed in 12th house which is a malefic house, so it becomes positive ( square of -ve becomes +ve).. ???

  • Dear Sir, kanya lagna, sun is in own house and if it conjunction with malefic (like mars, jupiter) or when its in conjunction benifics (mercury) or when it in conjunction with maraka (venus) What results we get in this different conditions? (to make us understand this rule pls don’t consider here combustion effect, just consider sun like other planets).

  • Sir, Thanks so much for your lessons! I had a fundamental question. Are the malefic and benefics are taken from Lagna standpoint only? . So for eg Tula Lagna, Dhanus Rasi, Moola Nakshatram : Tula Lagna will have Jupiter as malefic but he is the swami of Dhanus Rashi so will he be a malefic for his own Rashi and Nakshatram? Please advise.

  • Lately anyone who has a article in YouTube has become an expert in Astrology and published by Saptharishi Astrology. There are some very good speakers such as Ms. Gayatri Dev Vasudev and Mr. Narasimha Rao with deep studies and with well deserved reputation. Most others I have listened to are simply half baked. In the present article the author never tells which are inherently auspicious (lords of 1,5,,9) and which are not necessarily so. Parasara says lords of 4,7,10 are good provided they are natural malefics. I don’t know of any rule that a planet is good for the house he owns (which the author states in the beginning). Lords of 6,8,12 are usually not so good unless other conditions apply. Astrology is difficult as it is, let us not muddle it. Incidentally debilitated Mercury gives excellent education according to the Tamil dictum மறைந்த புதன் நிறைந்த கல்வி meaning if Mercury is hidden he will give full education. That is the reason the subject of his second example is a high level business executive, not simply because he aspects the his own house. Incidentally whatever Astrology I learned, I did so under my grandfather who was a Raj Jyotishi and the late Prof. B. V. Raman.

  • For Pisces, Mars is also the second lord. Thus it’s neutral. If associated with malefic, for example with Sa, the 11th Lord, does it loose it’s beneficence due to it’s ownership of 2nd house? For Capricorn Sa is also the second lord in addition to being the lagna lord. Does Sa becomes malefic if associated with, say 3rd, 6th or 11th Lord?

  • I have mars in 11th in a cancer sign which is a lord of 8th. I was promoted to IAS during moon mahadsha and moon is the most melific. Also at present undergoing mars mahadsha and this period is quite satisfactory whereas for virgo lagna the period should have been very bad. This mahadsha is about to end on ist March 2024.

  • Sorry sir but I have doubt. Rightly said as Laghu parashari also said that 2nd and 12th lord bestow the results according to whom they joined or what their other sign signifies.. But 8th…. I am sorry, it is no where praised… Even laghu parashar explained that else then an 8th lord if he also the ascendent lord then only it’s placement in ascendent is good for longevity. And for every elsewhere it is not praises and recalled destroyer of such house. Kindly guide us accordingly sir, this point.. we do not understand why you calling 8th lord nutral. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

  • Sir, thanks a lots And lot’s a for your wonderful and very deep to basisc clear article bow hand’s to you and really for sapt Rishi website wonderful work. Sir a request to you plz clarify it I have seven times tried to understand but again a confusion comes. My dob is 26-08- 1984, time- 17:35′ place – Akola Maharashtra. Now here according to second rule will mars will malefic to me, as per your article my 8 th lord sun in 8 the house, 11 mars th lord in 11house, 12 lord and 3rd lordin 12 th house this all planets in own house. I AM to much confused And went to many astrologers but not get a perfect reason for a blocked life and mind PLZ a request to you CLEAR me what are here benefic and malefic from every aspects And your research.

  • i think we have to use reverse engineering in astrology to create new rules in astrology i.e we have see a persons life and see when he got job marriage child birth promotion etc and try to justify things why things happen in so and so time ….like in the past normally rishis gives blessings to womens to have 100 childrens but if today some rishi give this kind of blessings …its no more blessing its abhishaap …..time is changing so as rules must be changed…..thanks

  • Dear Sir! I watched this article many times. I really like it and I’ve learned a lot from this lesson. There is something that causes confusion. you say that in the kendra house the planets will be neutral. But later in the table, I see that for Gemini lagna, Jupiter is a functional malefic, though Jupter the lord of th 7th and 10th kendra houses, so according your teaching, Jupiter suppose to be neutral in kendra houses. Help me please to understand this thing!

  • Scenario: TAURUS Lagna, a) 11th lord (Jupiter) in 8th house (Sagittarius ) without any association. b) 11th house is unoccupied. No Aspects on 11th house. c) 8th house has Saturn’s 3rd aspect from 6th house Libra, where Sat is exalted. d) Jupiter Exalted in Navamsa (D-9). Question:- 1) what should be the interpretation? 2) Is Double Negative rule applicable? If yes, i) Since 8th lord in 8th house (own house), does this help to strengthen the significations of 8th house. ii) Now, what happens to 11th house significations? iii) Lastly, what if Jupiter is in retrograde? how does the effects vary?

  • Thanks alot sir. Big question. Libra ascendant venus is the lord of 1st house. Taurus is owned by venus too. Bcums the 11th house. In this case wat will it do? How can it be the biggest malefic and also the biggest benific? Cancer asc. Jupiter owns 6th and 9th house. How can it be a malefic and benific too?

  • Thank you sir for a nice clarification. If the lagna lord is weak (0-5 degrees) and moon is strong (10-15) then should we take lagna or moon for calculating benefices and malefic. In some sections, moon is taken for calculating benefic and malefic (1/5/9) and 1.4.7.10. Since das bukthi is calculated as per moon star, then we should calculate the malafic and benefic from chandra raasi. Please clarify in your next vedio if you feel so. Thanks you sir.
