What In Vedic Astrology Are Malefic Planets?

In Vedic Astrology, planets are classified into two categories: benefic and malefic. Benefic planets radiate positive energies, while malefic planets can bring negative effects due to their position in an individual’s birth-chart. Jupiter supports good practices and interpersonal relationships, while Venus supports interpersonal interactions. Moon, Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury are considered benefic planets, while Sun, Mars, Saturn, and Rahu are malefic planets.

The primary malefic planets in Vedic astrology are Saturn (Shani), associated with discipline, restriction, delay, and karma. Each ascendant or lagna has certain naturally benefic planets that can become malefic or deviate from their natural tendency, producing a bad effect. Malefics are determined as Lords of the 3rd, 6th, and 11th houses, in reverse order.

Benefic planets have pleasant influences, while malefic planets present difficulties to overcome. Venus and Jupiter are considered benefics for their helpful and positive impact, while Mars and Saturn are the two malefics, as their influence can bring intense and jarring events that cause more stress than ease.

In summary, benefic planets bring positive changes and prosperity, while malefic planets can cause harm, sorrow, fear, or loss due to their particular position in an individual’s birth chart. Jupiter and Venus are generally considered benefic, while Saturn and Mars are often considered malefic. Moon, Mercury, and Sun are neither naturally one or another but can be benefic. Malefic planets are heavy hitters, with Saturn promoting growth and restructuring, Mars teaching fearlessness, and Jupiter guiding us towards growth and restructuring.

In some instances, even a benefic planet can give negative effects. Overall, planets in Vedic Astrology play a crucial role in shaping an individual’s personality and destiny.

Saturn’s malefic houses, the 6th, 8th, and 12th houses, can have significant impacts on individuals. In the 6th house, Saturn is associated with health, daily routines, and conflicts, causing challenges in physical well-being and daily life. However, his disciplinarian nature can also instill resilience and a methodical approach to problem-solving. In the 8th house, Saturn governs transformation, shared resources, and the mysteries of life and death, bringing intense experiences related to financial matters, joint ventures, and psychological growth.

Despite struggles, Saturn can develop essential insights, resilience, and a deep understanding of life’s nature. In the 12th house, Saturn is associated with isolation, hidden enemies, and spiritual exploration. Despite these challenges, astrology emphasizes the potential for growth and self-discovery. Coping strategies for Saturn in malefic houses include self-awareness and reflection, understanding the lessons and karmic patterns associated with these placements, and navigating challenges with greater resilience.

How to know if Mars is malefic?

Mars, a malefic planet, governs the zodiac signs Scorpio and Aries, known for their reactive and argumentative nature. It is less effective when placed in the opposite signs, such as Libra or Taurus, or in the earth sign Capricorn. Mars is also the creative life force, governing physical energy, stamina, and assertiveness. It can indicate how we approach competition and confrontations, channel aggression, and provide insight into hobbies, passions, talents, and exercise preferences.

Mars spends six to seven weeks in one zodiac sign, depending on the retrograde phase, which occurs every two years. During this phase, Mars moves backward in the sky, causing a temporary shift in how we express our desires, motivations, and assertiveness. This can cause progress to slow down, especially for Mars-ruled zodiac signs like Scorpio and Aries, as these placements are most affected.

What is the strongest house in astrology?

The angular houses in the chart are the most powerful, while succedent houses, less powerful but more powerful than the cadent houses, have a quality similar to the angular houses. The second house, which succeeds the first house of the body and personality, signifies the things that belong to the person, while the eighth house, following the seventh house of the partner or spouse, represents the belongings of the other person. Succedent houses have a stable, unchanging, fixed quality, deriving from their central position in each quadrant of the chart.

While some houses have malefic or weak connotations, they are productive houses where matters normally take root and flourish, such as possessions or children. The second house signifies the possessions of the person or event for which the chart was cast, and this meaning has persisted unchanged for several thousand years. Modern astrologers may perceive a correspondence between the second house and the sign Taurus, but traditional astrologers did not. Hellenistic astrologers considered the second house the “Gate of Hades”, leading to the houses beneath the horizon of the chart.

  • Very insightful article, i’ve gone through many trials under the influence of my combust Venus and debilitated Saturn, lost my father from cancer, lost my two sisters in an accident, had to quit college cos of lack of finances…but all of that made me stronger as you’ve said it’s all a lesson, eventually i got married and have 3 children(2 girls and 1 boy, they have the same exact personalities as me and my sisters when we were children and i find it very interesting) and became software developer with excellent carrier….so yeah, those malefic planets are there to teach us resilience.

  • I wonder if it’s worth to spend years of your life to endure Saturn’s lessons and become successful at a later stage and at the cost of living happily, comfortably, feeling at ease and enjoying your life as much as you can. I doubt it. I do not want such success in life. And maybe most people don’t, either. I prefer Venus and Jupiter to prevail over Saturn, not to be in balance with it. 💗
