In The Elder Scrolls: Chapter II – Daggerfall, players can cast various spells for magically-inclined characters. These spells can be purchased from merchants in the Mages Guild or the Temple of Kynareth. To cast a spell, hit backspace to open the spell menu and double-click the desired spell. If it’s a target self spell, it will automatically cast after that. For repeatedly casting the same spell, use the Recast Spell key (default: Q).
The minimum amount of spell points a spell may consume when cast is 5, but some high-cost spells will never consume only 5 spell points even with a skill of 100 in the related school. A clever tip is to change the “per level” value to “per 2 levels” to make the spell scale slower.
For example, to cast the stock Shock spell, press the cast spell key to open the spellbook, double-click the Shock spell, then face the monster you want to shock. A spell that does damage in the Area around Caster can solve the problem of creatures being “underfoot” when jumping, swimming, or levitating down.
Dozens of spells are available for magically-inclined characters in Daggerfall, and they can be purchased from merchants in either the Mages Guild or the Temple. Custom spells can also be created using key mapping in the in-game settings.
When casting a spell, press the interact button after clicking on the spell, i.e., press F if set to F. When casting the spell, play the casting/buildup images and alternate between the last two to show your character holding that spell.
To train characters, cast one spell, then hit the ‘e’ key to abort. Use the ‘q’ key to recast, then ‘e’ to abort again.
Spell reflection has one advantage over spell resistance: If early spells get reflected, the enemy may die before it can cast the rest of its spells.
