Disney’s Encanto is a story about Mirabel Madrigal, the only character without a magical power from the enchanted house. Mirabel runs away, leaving her family behind and blames herself for losing their home and magic. Abuela finds Mirabel and apologizes, explaining the circumstances. Mirabel saves the Encanto from fading by healing her relationship with Alma and the family. Bruno’s visions reveal that Mirabel is the one who had the magic to bring the casita back to life and restore the gifts.
A new Reddit theory suggests that Mirabel is actually the one who had the magic to bring the casita back to life and restore the gifts. By the end of Encanto, Mirabel gets a gift: the power of the Madrigal’s magic as a whole. She keeps her family’s gifts alive and helps them flourish despite not having tangible powers. Mirabel’s true gift is compassion, which is transferred to her since she is an outcast.
The magic of the casita didn’t go out with the candle’s flame but was instead transferred to Mirabel since she was compassionate. Mirabel’s gift is compassion, and by taking away the door, denying her an outward power, and making her an outcast, the Miracle created a shelter for Abuela and her surviving family. Alma and Mirabel try to save the magic in Encanto, and Alma seeks Mirabel out and finds her by the same river. When Mirabel saves her family and the magic, she is healing their fractured bonds and restoring the magic.
📹 Mirabel Powers Breakdown In Encanto Ending
Mirabel Powers Breakdown In Encanto Ending,There’s a brand-new arrival on Disney+ just in time for the holidays, as the …
What is Mirabel’s power in Encanto at the end?
The movie “Mirabel” follows the Madrigals, who come to understand each other and embrace their imperfections. However, Mirabel doesn’t receive any powers, and the film never reveals why she didn’t. The story is meant to be about feeling left out and lesser-than, and the film focuses on her as the character she needs for a good reason. The filmmakers knew Mirabel would be the main character from the beginning, as she became the perfect vehicle for the story and a sympathetic character for the audience. The film’s focus on Mirabel’s feelings of being left out and lesser-than is a key theme in the story.
Is Encanto 2 confirmed?
On November 24, 2022, the sequel to the first film was announced, featuring most of the same team members who worked on the first film. The sequel will feature a new set of characters and Lin-Manuel Miranda was called in to work on the music. Miranda was tasked with writing a song for a character who had a talent for making music everywhere she went. On June 13, 2023, Joseph Leanos announced his first-ever movie role as the new main character, José, and announced the rest of the cast and their roles. The film is set to release next year.
How was Mirabel hurting the magic?
In the film Encanto, the Madrigals have a ceremony where a child touches a magic candle to reveal their gift. Mirabel, a child, wipes her hands on her clothes after touching the candle, leaving her without any powers. This hand-wiping is a significant difference between Mirabel’s and Antonio’s gift ceremonies, as well as her cousin Antonio’s, who also doesn’t wipe his hands after touching the candle. This difference may explain why Mirabel doesn’t get special abilities.
Abuela Alma, another prominent member of the Madrigal family, is also sans powers. Encanto suggests that Mirabel will follow in her footsteps, leading the family and helping the town. She asks Pedro for help and claims her late husband sent Mirabel to her. Mirabel puts the family first and helps the Madrigals when they need help. Without a power, Abuela Alma acts as an intermediary between the magical family and the townspeople.
Another theory suggests that Mirabel had a secret power all along. The house constantly communicates with Mirabel, but it strictly follows Alma’s orders when she gives a command. This interaction between Mirabel and Abuela Alma and Casita suggests that Mirabel may have had a secret power all along.
How does Mirabel restore the magic?
A new theory in Encanto suggests that Mirabel may have received a gift, but the difference was in the way it was revealed. The theory suggests that Mirabel’s gift was internalized, making her a vessel for the magic, which connected her to Casita. This connection was evident from the beginning of Encanto, as Abuela Alma told the story of the miracle first coming to the family Madrigal. Mirabel interacted with the enchanted house and relied on it for help.
However, when problems with the miracle and magic occurred on Antonio’s gifting day, Mirabel’s link to Casita became unmistakable. Abuela Alma and Bruno were aware of the threat to the Madrigal’s miracle. Following Mirabel’s gifting ceremony, Abuela made Bruno conjure a vision, but she did nothing to deal with the problem. This led to Bruno’s disappearance in Encanto, and he had no practical solution for saving the magic and Casita, leaving it to Mirabel to fix things.
What was Mirabel’s gift in the end?
In Encanto, Mirabel Madrigal’s lack of a magical gift doesn’t define her worth or importance. Instead, she becomes the gift herself by bringing her family together and restoring Casita’s magic. The movie emphasizes that her intelligence and problem-solving abilities are her true gift, and she doesn’t need external magic to make a difference. The focus of Encanto is on self-acceptance and finding one’s true purpose.
Mirabel’s journey shows that having or not having a specific power doesn’t determine someone’s worth or role in the family. The character may have secretly had a gift all along, as she doesn’t receive a gift during her ceremony in Casita. Abuela Alma, Mirabel’s mother, is worried about losing the magic and letting down her family and village.
In Encanto, Mirabel’s relationship with Abuela Alma is complicated by her lack of a gift during her ceremony. A theory suggests that the door that Mirabel reaches for during her ceremony may have become the front door of the house, rather than disappearing. The film highlights the importance of self-acceptance and finding one’s true purpose in the family.
Who is the villain in Encanto?
In Disney’s Encanto, Mirabel Madrigal is the only member of the magical Madrigal family without a magical gift, which causes tension with Abuela Alma. This strains her relationship with Abuela, who is worried about losing the miracle and causing her family and village to suffer. However, when the family’s magical house begins to crack, Mirabel’s lack of powers drives her to find a solution and make her family proud.
The rest of the family, including Mirabel’s sister Isabela, who can create flowers and plants, and her Uncle Bruno, who has the gift of predicting the future, are also given powers. However, Dolores, Mirabel’s cousin, has superhuman hearing and knowledge of gossip in the town, which some believe makes her the actual villain. The lack of a traditional antagonist makes Encanto unique, with Abuela Alma stifling her family’s individual growth for the sake of tradition.
Why can’t Casita help in Bruno’s room?
Encanto is a film that explores the theme of family secrets and the bond between the Madrigals. Casita, a member of the family, is tasked with hiding a secret about Bruno, a member of the Madrigals. Bruno has stepped away from the family, and Casita’s magic no longer works in his room. The room serves as a metaphor for the heartbreak Bruno endured trying to protect Mirabel. Casita is bound by the love for one another and relies on the family’s unity to survive. Casita also doesn’t hesitate to challenge the Madrigals, especially Abuela, when they misbehave.
The film’s theme of family secrets is evident throughout, as Casita helps Bruno hide and live a life of relative safety. One theory suggests that Casita knew exactly when it would die and that its magic wouldn’t be strong enough to carry the Madrigals forever. Casita made the choice to conceal Bruno so that Mirabel could find him and restore the family bond before Casita crumbled.
Casita’s ultimate goal is to protect the Madrigals, and even though she is sometimes absent, there is a greater plan in the works. The family dynamic improves when the Madrigals reveal their secrets, and Casita can only be rebuilt when Bruno rejoins the family and is no longer an outcast. Encanto is not only a fun, whimsical film but also grounded in the honest aspect of difficult family dynamics and the desire to live up to expectations.
How did they save the magic in Encanto?
Mirabel’s magical power is the cornerstone of her household, symbolizing the importance of family unit and staying together. She opens the new door to Casita, bringing the magic back, even though the candle is no longer there. Mirabel, with the uniting love of her family, empowers everyone. The movie points out her power in dialogue, with Mirabel being referred to as “miracle” and “magical”. Before opening the door to Casita, Bruno calls Mirabel the real gift, and Abuela calls her the miracle.
The miracle of Encanto is everyone, and Mirabel’s power is fueled by their family and community. The miracle continues because Mirabel empowers everyone through both magic and love, and it is through their family and community that the miracle continues.
Is Mirabel’s gift the casita?
Encanto fan theory suggests that Mirabel’s gift in the film is her intelligence, not her brains. This is a unique twist on the trope of a female trio with beauty, brawn, and brains. Mirabel’s intelligence is the key to understanding Casita’s deterioration, and she never needed supernatural gifts to solve the mystery.
The ending of Encanto reveals Mirabel as the future leader of the Madrigals, but it remains unclear why she never received powers. Some theories suggest that Mirabel sabotaged her own ceremony, but she will lead her family and village into the future, uniting the family.
Various fan theories have emerged regarding Mirabel’s gift, such as the possibility that she unwittingly activated her gift by touching the doorknob. This dark theory suggests that the entire Madrigal family and town are trapped in Mirabel’s fantastical nightmare-turned-reality, which also accounts for the musical aspect of the movie.
The cracking apart of Casita could have been due to Mirabel seeing her cousin Camilo getting a gift, which could have triggered her gift to go crazy. Another theory suggests that Mirabel’s door during the ceremony became the new front door to the Madrigals’ magical home, supported by facts like Abuela Alma’s request for help and Pedro’s response.
Why is Bruno’s room full of stairs?
Bruno’s room in Disney’s animated film Encanto, set in Colombia, has been a subject of speculation due to its perceived length as Bruno became more distant from his family. The stairway, which grew longer as Bruno felt further away, symbolizes his alienation from the family. Encanto director Jared Bush explains that Bruno’s magical room underwent subtle changes over time, with each member of the Madrigal family receiving a unique room that corresponds to their power.
However, the movie only shows the interior of a few characters’ rooms, with Antonio’s jungle bedroom and Isabela’s botanical room being the only ones shown. Bruno’s room is a desolate space filled with sand and a giant staircase leading to an empty meditation chamber. The stairway plays a pivotal role in Mirabel’s journey to save their magical Casita, as she struggles to reach the top due to the seemingly never-ending stairway. Bush clarified that Bruno’s room once contained a smaller stairway but expanded as he grew older.
Does Mirabel ever get a power?
Mirabel, the embodiment of the miracle candle, is a symbol of hope for the Madrigals and the town of Encanto. The animated musical about Mirabel and the Madrigals, Encanto, belongs to the magical realism genre, a literary genre often associated with Latin American literature. Magical realism stories are set in a familiar world infused with magic and fantasy, with the Madrigal family endowed with magical abilities and living in a house that comes alive.
The town of Encanto is magically established overnight. However, there is no further explanation of the lore underlying the magic in Encanto, except perhaps that it was from a miracle that came to be one day.
The creators of the film left the question of Mirabel’s powers or lack thereof up in the air, but there are various ways to elucidate this conundrum. By looking through the film’s many cultural and literary references, we believe we have found the answer to the mystery of Mirabel’s power.
📹 Encanto’s Ending Explained!: How Mirabel Saved The Madrigals
Today I want to fully explain the ending of Disney’s Encanto and understand how Mirabel was able to save the Madrigals!
I really believe the main reason she didn’t get a gift is because she is going to the next candle holder after Abuelita passes, because if you notice Abuelita is the only who holds the candle when everyone gets their gifts. And since the house and the candle both fall apart when the two them were getting a long which probably means that the Casita had to fall apart in order for Mirabel to be the new caretaker. Which in all actually means that Mirabel always had a power it was just within her all a long 🥰.
I always believe that Mirabel is actually the new candle. The physical Miracle Candle was able to give each one a gift but was not able to unite them. Their doors symbolized their own fears and sorrows that were just being kept inside than shared to each other. Also, the Miracle Candle was Abuela’s memory of her husband and for her to totally move on, she needed to let it go that’s why at the ending, it didn’t return.
This, without question, has to be the best animated film i have seen in a very long time. I couldn’t take my eyes of it. The story, the music, the colours, the MAGIC!!!! I laughed and cried, I think I even held my breath a few times. Such a powerful, dramatic film, a completely new and wholly original idea.I most definitely will be perusal this again. Just WOW!
Mirabel’s gift is the house imo. If you notice, the house only listens to Mirabel. It helps others ofc but it only obeys Mirabel’s commands (like when the candle was fading out and the house only let Mirabel to reach the candle and made a ladder as she commanded) and also whenever Mirabel was hopeless the house would crack and the candle would slightly fade. That’s why she didn’t have a door. The whole house was her room and her door was the front door. Also I think the house is Pedro himself in a way. Look how it waved at the grandmother at the end just like how Pedro waved at her when they first met.
Mirabel’s gift (power) is the new Candle -Her family won’t need the candle to keep their powers since now Mirabel is the candle and is the one to empower them -She controls castia -She unites her family and brings the best out of them -Just like the candle, she will be the one unlocking the gifts of her new family members
I just realized, mirabel’s “gift” is everything she said in “waiting on a miracle” song She says “I would move the mountains” and at the end we see her moving away the family’s problems which is alot making it a “mountain of problems” Then the new flowers or smt, she was able to convince isabela that she doesnt need to be perfect and stuff and isabela grew plants she didnt even knew she could grow “Heal what’s broken” she “healed” or rebuilt the broken home and the broken family Then the “show this family something new”, she showed the family that they don’t have to always rely on their gifts, but with eachother. Thank you for reading if u read it
her power is the miracle she can make it stronger or weaker depending on how she feels when abuela fought with mirabel the miracle was dying because mirabel felt sad when she was hugging isabela the cracks began to fade and the candle burnt brighter at the end of the movie she accepts that she is special with or without a gift that makes the magic that restores the casita not powered by a candle but the love of mirabel of her family
In my personal view, I believe Abuelo Pedro was the one who created the encanto and reappeared in the form of butterfly. Butterfly symbolises a departed soul visiting family left behind. Pedro bestowed Alma the miracle candle as a result of his sacrifice to save his family and community so to show his love, a butterfly engraved was on it as a reminder. The butterfly appeared first at Pedro and Alma’s first encounter and all throughout the movie there were butterflies everywhere in the casita. Pedro never left Alma, he was always with her, protecting, sheltering and giving magical gifts to his family so that nothing will harm them again.
This movie is arguably the best movie I’ve ever watched. The characters in the movie are developed nicely with good traits, style, and humor. Mirabel is trying to help because she has no magic gift and I like that but it’s sad she doesn’t see the way her mother does. Isabella kind of learned her lesson she was extremely selfish and entitled but I’m glad she and mirabel get along towards the end of the movie. Camilo is absolutely hilarious in some scenes however he only got 6 minutes of total screen time but when he finds out about the casita breaking I love his reaction I wish he had more movie time in my opinion. Overall this is a great movie for Spanish music and people. I think Disney delivered on their 60th animated movie.
This is a beautiful and sad movie, but so lively. The most beautiful thing is the whole family works as a team all the time, except for Bruno that for me becomes one of the most important characters at the end which is supergifted, but is afraid of his own gift and that makes him secluded from everybody else and even his mother. Each family member has their own individuality, until Mirabel makes them exceptionally unique. This is a very vivacious movie. Muchas gracias! for these type of movies that let the audience enjoy it like kids.
My theory: during mirabels gift ceremony she touched the candle, rubbed her hands on herself, then touched the door. It looks like she became the gift from the magic transported to her. In Antonio’s part he touched the door immediately. And in the end mirabel restored the miracle maybe because she is the miracle now. As if she is the miracle Casita broke down from the anger/sadness of mirabel, even after Antonio’s ceremony Casita was breaking apart from mirabels sadness/anger. And when mirabel made up with Isabella, mirabel was happy and the candle grew brighter. So mirabel was not giftless, she is the gift.
I always thought that the magic was codependent on the emotional state of the matriarch of the family, and when Mirabel was born she was intended to become the next head of family which is why she doesn’t have a physical gift like Abuela. Therefore the magic was failing because Mirabels unhappiness at her situation continues to grow as she gets older and reaches a breaking point when she realized a Abuela would never accept her. And she was able to bring the magic back at the end because she was finally happy again 😬
Songs have been stuck in our head since first watch. Colourful, vibrant, heart warming and intelligent exploration of family and what it means to be unique. At the end of the day everyone’s opinion is just that, an opinion, like everything you’re either going to love it or not love it. And we as a family absolutely adore it! Refreshing Disney magic – relatable characters, good story telling, with immersive magic Spoiler alert The story explores people with gifts who are expected to perfectly uphold family expectations. Until our main lady joins the fray with no gift. Except, she can see the house beginning to crack – and uncovers the mental health struggles of the family, helping them unlock happiness, as well as learning to accept she’s wonderful just as she is too. Others have moaned there’s no plot – but that’s not true – for those who know what it’s like to not be accepted, or face anxiety, or struggle with workload pressures, not meet family expectations, and an incessant need to be perfect and not break this is an epic adventure – wrapped in great humour, music and magic. Also – love the house – and the magical rooms low key envy for how amazing they are.
1000/10 BEST MOVIE!! I’ve seen this movie twice and I’m waiting for it to be on Disney+ I absolutely love the dynamic of this movie. It’s interesting because you don’t expect the main character to lash out as Mirabel is seen doing. And it’s also not cliche that she didn’t receive a gift at the end. And all the characters (especially Bruno) are so amazing. Don’t even get me started on the music. This is legit my favourite movie and I could rant for hours about it!
I know that Mirabelle greatest power is keeping the family together but am I the only one who really wish she had an actual power I feel like she really deserved a lot more and was basically sideswiped due to a cliche Mirabelle deserves better They BETTER give her a power in part 2. #justiceformirabelle
Just like the one comment i saw here, I think Mirabel replaces the candle. When the candle wemt out, the casita died, but when mirabel place the knob on the door, the casita went back. It also makes sense since every madrigal has a print on their clothes similar to their gifts and mirabel’s prints are butterflies. The casita has interior designs of butterflies and the candle has butterfly as well. So, Mirabel holds the casita, and will soon be the one to give gifts.
Here is what I have come to conclude, all of the family are very empathetic, and the miracle is based on that empathy. Maybe the birth of the miracle came from (Abuela) Alma’s pain and need for safety, not just for herself, but also for her children and all the people she and Pedro were travelling with. All the powers can stem from a place of empathy and wish to help people, just manifesting in ways specific to those people. Juieta wants people to not hurt physically. Pepa feels emotions very strongly and wants everyone to have nice weather. Bruno is worried about the future. Delores wants to hear people’s problems so she can tell others who can help. Camilo identifies with others so much he takes on their identity. Antonio cares about animals. Isabela wants to give people beauty. Luisa wants to help physically. Therefore, Mirabel’s empathy is one that has the broadest, least defined form, and eventually shows itself in how she can be a sympatjetic ear to everyone’s problems without being blinded by their powers. Alma’s gift was being able to protect everyone, but damaged by her fear. Mirabel’s gift was to hear people’s fear and help them get past it, to get them to take off their masks. Alma is old now, so a new holder of the miracle needed to take her place, but to do it, Alma needed to face how her grief and fear was hurting the family. Facing it required the damaged foundation Alma made to be destroyed, so a new one held by Mirabel could take it’s place. Mirabel basically has the same gift as Abuela Alma – the gift of holding the family together and sustaining the miracle.
I noticed few things: To me at the beginning of the movie it was strange to see that Mirabel didn’t get a door, because based on the logic of the magic in that movie, there should have been another sign of Mirabel’s power, that was showed at the end of the movie (She unites the family and her magical door is the whole house, so union is her power). But they didn’t show any signs at the beginning not only because of the movie plot (to show house door scene at the end) but also because of the rules of how magic works, think of it as physics or chemistry, people still discover new physics laws, so same with the magic where they discovered that Mirabel holds power but in a different way, so they have discovered a new magic law if it makes any sense. I will add something else later coz I lost my focus lol
I thought she had powers related to time because after her younger cousin got his power she froze time during the photo thing went down into the lobby and then when the part of the roof fell she was still there and then time started moving again. But since Bruno had a door with time she didn’t get one because you can’t have two doors for the same power at the same time.
I just watched this movie and I loved it so much! I got totally immersed in it. The story, the songs and the awesome music! Of course we can expect the best coming from Disney 😉 Mirabel’s character is really inspiring ❤ It shows determination and love for a family and that everyone in a home is as much special as anyone else. I’m just upset they didn’t talk about the vision badly interpreted, the movie ended so quickly but just then as long as we have a happy ending it’s the best end right 😄
I feel like Mirabels power is a passive power but it’s something along the lines of getting people to face their deepest secrets and fears and embrace them to make them whole. Luisa with her fear of letting down the family Pepe with her talking about Bruno and her wedding Isa with how she admitted she didn’t want to be perfect Antonio with his walking to get his gift. Dolores with her wanting Mariano Even Abula with her admitting that she was so scared of losing the miracle that she lost sight of what the real miracle was
I suspected that after holding the candle, the first thing to be touched should have been the doorknob towards the door. so that the miracle forms from the door to host/owner of the door. But Mirabel wiped her hands on here dress, directing the miracle that should’ve first gone to the door go directly to herself. I suspect that the miracle from the candle connects first to the door then transfers to the owner/host. But since Mirabel wiped her hands to herself, the candle’s miracle ended up directly connecting to her. Making herself the provider of the miracle. But since she is a person while the candle is inanimate, her emotions becoming unstable affects the miracle provided to the family. Well, that’s me. Idk about what the real plot here.
Okay, this is absolutely cool! But imagine this: What if Mirabel was given a gift a little similar to Bruno? Since he can see the future, what if Mirabel was given the ability to see the Past? Think about it, if she wanted to see a full version of someone’s past, she would have to summon a bunch of magic like Bruno, but if she’s on the go, maybe she could also touch someone to see their past too! However, only a little bit of the past would be what she could see. Lastly, just for fun, she could preserve those visions of the past inside Crystal Balls 🔮:D
I JUST realized. Maybe actually Mirrabel’s power is this music article landscape! Just straight up – she can create these landscapes around her which means her power (to generate alternate spaces and physics like this) actually over-wrote her door. She was so scared of being different that she enforced that on the world around her.
I think Mirabel gift is mental resilience like abuela, abuela needed it to survive trauma, and after making it, as much as she desired to lead them to thrive, she could only go so far, all her children were blessed with different precious gifts, but none of them had the same resilience and emotional togetherness she had (the miracle) to break the cycle they were stuck in to help her family stay united. Basically she needed someone like herself, who had enough emotional intelligence that understands her limitations to show her empathy and so freeing her and themselves psychologically to move the Encanto (family) forward… and because abuela received this gift from Mirabel, even though abuela most part of the film didn’t accept she was hurting them by not letting them grow out of the house and their roles – the casita (family) begins to break to set themselves free from the chains of trauma – Mirabel gives a new hope to the family in herself, by forgiving and honoring her family with her gift: an open resilient heart, I think this is a film that pictures compassion for all of us, what it looks like in our souls when offered even if those who hurt us didn’t asked for it until confronted, though abuela in the movie do apologize, it is also a reminder of the best gift when true amends are made and are successful in our hearts: you get an encanto, a new family that thrives.
I am a huge fan of Pixar and what they have done since their very first output, Toy Story. And although I never thought about having a top five favorites for Pixar movies, if I did Encanto would rank in the top five if not the top three (along with Zootopia and Soul). Now, I could rant and rave about the music from Lin Manuel Miranda, but I won’t. Instead I’ll just focus on how Pixar time and time again have managed to marry science and art while creating a story that is filled with heart. What is most amazing is that the movie, to me, is a visual representation of a Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel, most of which take place in Columbia and fall under the genre of magical realism. Every skin color imaginable was represented in this film, a reflection of the African diaspora and colonialism (a recurring theme in Marquez’s novels), and I was just amazed at that level of detail for what is essentially a kids film. And though I am not from Latin America, I can see myself in this film just by the various skin tones alone. For those who are unaware, colorism is a thing in Latin American and Caribbean countries where the darker your skin tone is, the lesser you are treated as a person. So for this movie to show this as a focal point for a community is wonderful. The artistry, the use of vivid colors, the facial expressions of the characters, all of it dazzles the senses when you’re sitting in a dark theater. The casting was spot on; it took me a while to recognize the voice of That 70’s Show’s Wilmer Valderrama (whose mother and father are from Columbia and Venezuela respectively), but there was no way for me to mistake John Leguizamo‘s (born in Columbia) as I’ve been a fan of his since his HBO specials (Mambo Mouth springs to mind).
Theory:When mirabel touched the candle,as she was about to open the door, she wiped her hands on her dress, because of this,it has made her part of the magic, because when she touched her dress she might have transferred the magic to herself and not to the door. This has made her part of the magic This is because when she gave Antonio a gift and it was a stuffed animal,he was given the ability concerning animals. If mirabel didn’t touch Antonio’s hand on his day of getting his powers,he might have not gotten any power. This makes sense now because she got the most powerful gift out of all the madrigals. (I got some of this from YouTube)
I would give this movie a 6/10 There wasn’t an exciting plot. I really disliked the ending. The characters finally learned that they don’t have to be perfect if they have powers. They learned to love themselves without their powers. Then like in the last couple minutes everyone got their powers back and they were put back on a pedestal like royalty. Also the grandmother is just forgiven after saying sorry even though she was the cause for most if not all the characters’ problems and trauma. The songs were absolutely amazing though. It really showed the best side of the characters. The animation during the songs was beautiful. Not the worst movie but not the best one either. Would honestly rewatch it just for the songs.
I have a theory. Abuela did get a gift, but it wasn’t a power. Her gist was a safe place for her children to grow up. She was granted a house and community for her kids to grow up in. This would explain why the cancel saved all the people but only the madrigal family gets gifts. As well, we could think ofany possible reasons to logic out the gifts. Pepa might have had a hard time expressing her emotions, Julieta might have wanted to help heal people and her gift made it easier. Bruno probably get if only someone was able to see the attack, his dad might still be alive, so he was give prophetic visions. Luisa might have thought she needed to be tougher to be like Isabella. Mirabel wasn’t give a gift to ensure the family stayed grounded in reality and she would act as a middle man. Dolores and Camilo got their gifts due to their dramatic side. Camilo can better act as people and Dolores can better get those juicy nuggets of drama. Antonio is pretty obvious but he loves animals. The only one I can’t seem to Find a reason for having their gift is Isabella. I thought she might have liked gardening, but aside for the end scene of her planting with Luisa and Mirabel there’s nothing to support it.
Actually, mirable have the power to unite everyone, this is greater than any other gift to be a perfect person, so mirabel is the only one who united her family and when put the door knob the house returns it’s magic, which got broken when mirabel got hurt from abuela, thus mirabel is the responsibility for maintaining the whole house, as casita is more closer to her than any other family member
Ummmmm unpopular opinion here ✋🏽 Mirabel not getting a power was one of the best moves Disney could make. Mirabel whole character development was based off the fact she did not have powers- she felt useless and unwanted without them. Imagine her getting some? What does that say “Mirabel needed powers to be liked by her family, to feel special” Disney has done this many other times ex: cars 3 (Instead of lighting somehow getting fast again he helped Cruz) monsters inc university (Mike didn’t suddenly be able to scare instead he went on to do something else that made him just as happy) Idk but I’m glad she didn’t powers 🤷🏾♀️
Everybody keeps saying Mirabel doesn’t have a power at all, but she obviously DOES have a power, even way before the ending of the movie. I say being the next candle holder after whenever Alma finally kicks the bucket is meant to be Mirabel’s SECOND power. I mean come on, you can obviously SEE her FIRST power during the songs. Every time her family breaks into song around her, look at Mirabel’s reaction during the songs. She can actually SEE and EXPERIENCE what’s happening in the songs. It’s obvious just from how scared and freaked out she looks whenever something happens during the songs. Take the Bruno song, during the wedding day part of the song, Mirabel could SEE what happened all those years ago even though she wasn’t even born yet when it happened, yet she was seeing exactly what happened like she had been there. She even nearly got blown away by Pepa’s ‘hurricane winds’ during the song. Or everything else that happened during the song. Like how did she get from being upstairs in the nursery with Pepa and Felix to suddenly dancing with Dolores in the courtyard, to somehow being some kind of dark scary dungeon inside of Casita with Camilo, with a pit hole opening up under her that takes her to a tunnel where Pepa’s side of the family is still singing in it as they point her to the exit where everyone in the village joins in the song for some reason. Even in the end somehow her dad got roped into the song as he’s dancing and singing with the others as they set up the table for dinner.
well i might have explained it to another youtube articles comment section but you see i think she does have a gift because remember how in the song surface pressure luisa loses her gift and her door is still showing she has strength.Well it could be that Mirabella actually TAKES the gift away without knowing so when she has one feeling she takes gifts away buuuuuuut i aint no done yet.You see in the song, what else can i do, Mirabella is with Isabella and Isabella got new strength for her power it could mean that Mirabella (sorry for repeating same words) added a new strength to Isabellas power. Also did you notice that in every song Mirabella shows a gift ( by that i mean like the person she is with) except for,Family Madrigald, and,we don’t talk about bruno,( because she was with no one) .So in all that you and i found today if we put it together it will make soooooo much scenes it means that Mirabella is the actual gift giver. If i had a youtube website i would be super happy to explain but sadly i don’t, one day i will though.I might be wrong with my figuring out skills but yeah thats all i got to say good days😄.
When i first watched it i was soo confused tbh…. Until i thought about the same idea most seem to be thinking (that mirabel is the next candle holder/power giver/abuela). However, i watched it with my friend afterwards and he came up with a funny theory that is so stupid and hilarious but im actually starting tk believe it lol 😂 😂 😂. His theory was that mirabels power is to cause musical numbers (now im very much aware of how disney movies are usual some form of musical in one way or another but think about it, mirabel is always present when a song begins even if she doesn’t start the song she is always present and envolved with it some way or another lol 😂 😂 😂 😂)
Remember when she had a flash back at Antonio’s ceremony? In her flash back at her own ceremony, after touching the candle, she wiped her hands on her dress, and didn’t get a gift. In Antonio’s, he touched the candle and keeps his hands in the air and he got his gift. Possibly one of the reason why she didn’t get the gift.
Watched the movie its sweet, crisp and to the point. The whole family is consumed by the idea of magic and forcing themselves to be perfect. On the other hand mirabel was true to herself, understood that she is not perfect, but strongly believed tat she is a part of family whether or not she possess magic. Life is not about whether you have magic or not its about the purpose. Mirabel may not have a magic that is evident but she definitely got a purpose ie to bring back the lost magic and family together. Make them understand that each member have his or her contribution to the family. The candle is nothing but representation of magic rather i would say purpose. The moment the grandma realize it mirabel was able to transform the house into homr
Someone told me mind you he is a child himself so I was astonished at his observation that Mirabel always has a gift not only does she control the house she controls the village …remember when Abuela stated the cracks started with you since she was born every time she gets upset the house cracks every emotion sad or upset resulted in a crazy the only reason they weren’t as noticeable is because Bruno was fixing them since her birth …as she got older her emotions Grew stronger and the cracks larger…the scene when Abuela starts yelling at her the house doesn’t crack but when Mirabel starts getting upset at her grandmother the cracks start all the way from the village into the home…so I believe her emotions can cause earthquakes and she can control the house/village!! The only reason the house will continue to exists and be stronger is because she is alive when she is happy the candle grows brighter !!!!the love she had for her family kept the candle alive but the moment she felt unloved disowned by her grandma the candle town and house responded to it !! Also when the house started to crumble she was the only one casita was able To get to the candle the house listened to her and protected her because it knew without her none of it will exist or matter!!
I really enjoyed the movie Mirabel chatacter is so relatable to me, someone who has been left and wants to prove herself to others, at the end she found out she did not need to prove her self, she should just shine in her own way and light up, others should just changed their point of view and look at the sky to see the shining star, i really respect the way how her personality grow in the movie storyline and she gets wiser, i hope i just find my own way of shining*like her*, we are all stars and shine in diffrente ways, this movie has teached me a life lessone
To be honest I think miracles gift was nature like animals and plants from both her 2 siblings Isabella and her causin who just got his gift also I think her gift is butterflies because if you re watch the movie pay attention to the candle print wich is butterflies 🦋 and her skirt and in the backgrounds with her mom it forms a weird butterfly pattern . SO that’s my theory
But how did Meribel throw that log like 20ft in the air in Bruno’s room? How did she open the door to the room filling with sand that had covered the handle? How did she get back across the gap in Bruno’s room? All around the time Louisa was losing her strength? Coincidence, I think not. Meribel was the source and sink of the powers Louisa was losing powers Meribel gained. If any other family member had a loss of faith Merible would have picked up those talents. Aside from the irrelevant Camillo who offered nothing to the plot but comic relief the other powers could be transferred subtly enough that Meribel herself wouldn’t even notice she was using them. This ties up Meribels powers, why only Louisa was losing her powers (Meribel needed the strength in Brunos room), and Camillo being irrelevant.
THe caterpillar song actually states it all. Abruala was the caterpillar magically cocooning her and the town around mountains but eventually had to open up and change into beautiful butterflies which Maribel represents. If you did notice but not only is the house the whole town is now as well. The new magic composed of togetherness of not only the family but now the whole town. If there is a sequel it most likely will be a journey back to Abruala’s hometown and look similar to the original Encanto story. Most likely it will be Mayor vs Mayor a fight between the two towns.
True!!! She DOES have a power, the biggest power there is; Love!! In balance even; self Love and Love for others.. Her empathic nature to understand and be supportive towards each family member, to unite everyone!!! She helps abuela HEAL, helps others heal, unites the family!! When abuela lost her husband, she had to carry all the weight alone, and this trauma spilled over into the next generations, each of them experiencing extreme pressure over their gift.. But Mirabel didn’t get this type of pressure, the type of pressure she experienced was “not having a gift”, being the “useless one” of the family.. Useless, the exact way abuela felt when she couldn’t save her husband; When he sacrificed his life for her and their children, his Love became the magic, yet she feels it’s her fault he’s gone.. Abuela sees herself in Maribel the moment her door dissapeared.. The door dissapeared the same way her husband did.. They both go through loss.. What they all didn’t know was Mirabel HAD a power all this time.. Just like abuela had.. Abuela kept it all together, even though she was alone and in extreme pain.. And that’s exactly what Mirabel will do too.. She will stand alone in trying to unite everyone.. Her door dissapeared because her power wasn’t solely based on an individual trait expanding magical.. Her power was the biggest magic there is, yet a completely normal human skill.. Her door dissapeared because they didn’t know the front door was her door, the whole house was her room.
I really don’t understand the opening of this movie. I don’t know why they’re being attacked. I don’t know what they’re being chased. I don’t know why they killed the husband. I don’t know why a miracle happened. It doesn’t make any sense to me that unless there was no change that house there before that would be in chanted house. They didn’t seem to be the president for magic or the conflict they drove him for the village. It all just seems to come out of left field. No history no president no witch. I guess I got curious because jimmy Kimmel was talking about how it had become a thing at their house now. Like it’s replaced Frozen. And that reminded me that I didn’t understand the film. If anyone knows our article where Encanto gets explained that would be helpful.
Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the struggles and madness in this world today, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law – causing the world’s previous perfection to be destroyed – and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don’t think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing – regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others – which is murder in God’s perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says “the soul that sins shall die” – if we break one in thought/word/deed it’s as if we’re guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans . The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God’s perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn’t and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life.
A film that had potential Now in the bottom half of the review, there will be spoilers but if you’d like a review without spoilers read the top half. Cons -Plot confusion -Introducing too many characters and then not giving enough background to them -No main villain -Not feeling empathetic really towards the characters besides the main character and Luisa (her “muscular” sister) -Lack of content with Bruno Pro -Good representation – Certain songs such as “We don’t talk about Bruno” was good -Key details with outfits were nice -Diversity -Certain characters Spoiler Portion: Plot confusion: There was no one main villain at all in this movie. The whole time it felt we were leading up to nothing. Bruno who I thought was going to be a villain wasn’t led up to much. In there he was portrayed as mysterious but we quickly meet him and nothing interesting happened. He was shown to be telling bad moments from the future but it seemed like everyone forgot and everything was perfect again. This film would’ve benefited from a plot twist but there was none. Characters: The film wanted us to feel sympathetic to the characters when their powers were leaving but besides Luisa, all the other characters seemed lucky. Isabella could’ve also been in this category but they made her seem ruder and they never explained why she and Mirabel(the Main character) were not on good terms. Her voice didn’t have the maturity that I was expecting and she seemed younger than Mirabel. The main character never had an explanation of why she didn’t get power and this made it confusing.
This movie disappointed me… The story was the same as Moana, Raya and the last dragon and Mulan (to a certain extent). A strong female protagonist with a mission to save her family. They put in elements of difficulties faced by immigrants in this movie with a Latin American point of view. It’s high time Walt Disney movies stop ripping off Pixar and Disney’s older movies. The music was not that great, the voice work was the only good part about the movie.
I honestly think that Mirabel’s gift was her connection to Casita since she was the only one that connected to Casita by seeing the cracks, destruction, and Casita even helped her get to the candle and protected her till the end. Casita even welcomed and dragged Mirabel in first out of everyone in the family. She probably didn’t get a door and stayed in the nursery as it’s seen that Casita can’t do anything within the other rooms, this would have broken the connection between them.
What about this thought? You once talked about Abuela’s three kids. If Bruno is the future, because of his Visions, wouldn’t Pepa be present as her weather changes affect what was happening in the moment, and Merabel’s mother be past as to heal she has to cook and what she gives the injured is the product of an action of the past?
Dose anyone else think that she didn’t get a door originally bc after she touched the candle, she wiped her clothes/herself? Instead of transferring the magic to the house, and thus to a door, she transferred it to herself. She is shown to be excellent at sewing, her own clothes are more elaborate and detailed then the rest of her family! She made the little jaguar to bring comfort to her cousin, and it even seemed to comfort Bruno! She literally sewed her family back together by fixing the gaps that had grown between them, even between herself and her grandmother. Sometimes to fix a stitch, you have to rip it out completely, like the foundation of the house needed to be completely redone!
I think Mirabel in a way DID get a gift. If you look at all the magical gifts the Madrigals have, you see something very interesting… they’re all just magical versions of personalities and things people can do for themselves. -Abuela is the matriarch; her candle is a sign of light in the darkness, but when she lost sight of the true meaning, things began to fall apart. She, in truth, burned everyone out because she forced them to burn too brightly without giving them the space to breathe and glow. We also see that she is in fact, the least connected to Casita. She never interacts with its magic, only ever the candle or talking to Pedro, her late husband. This indicates her trauma, being trapped in the past, and how the foundation begins to fail. -Julieta (Mirabel’s mom) is the nurturer; caring for those who are ailing, and cooking for those you love. But just like eating to feel better can be unhealthy, Julieta can’t heal everything by being sweet and nurturing, just like how she smothers Mirabel with love to try and compensate for Abuela’s coldness. By trying to make everything good for her child, she ignores the issues and feelings that need addressing. -Pepa (Mirabel’s aunt) is passion; people can change the atmosphere of any space they enter with their moods. Whether or not these changes are good or bad is all in how healthily you deal with your emotions. Pepa is energetic, and feels deeply, so because of all the pressure she deals with, she tends to be nervous and smothers her feelings to avoid her gift.
I really enjoyed Encanto. There wasn’t one song I disliked. It is disappointing that the film didn’t do too great at the box office. I mean it still made 40 million dollars. I hope Disney does more with this theme. Maybe they’ll do a series of shorts on disney+ similar to what they did with Luca and Forky
Another hidden lesson I loved with the house collapsing is many people have grown up with the statement – “what happens in this house, stays in this house.” I have never liked that statement because it’s not true. Mirabel made to feel insignificant, Isabella feeling like she couldn’t be authentic & pressured to be perfect, Luisa feeling like she’s useless if she can’t carry the weight of her family, Bruno made out to be the villain – these issues being ignored & undiscussed caused the home & family to collapse. I hope this film opens the floor for discussion in many families because I promise you, a lot of us have cracks in our casitas that are ignored everyday. Without a change, it can destroy not just a house but a family.
Find the definition of a butterfly really fitting in this because I don’t know how many people notice but for a caterpillar to become a butterfly it literally has to melt and destroy its own body to become a new and I feel like that really relates to the part where the house had to break for it to become new
I am just going to slip into this discussion. Mirabel isn’t the Grandmother’s successor. Mirabel is the candles successor. The candle showed-up after her Abuelo sacrificed himself and the only one to carry this candle was Abuela. Miracles happen from sacrifice, the candle is Mirabel’s Abuelo. Mirabel isn’t the most similar to her Abuela, she is the most like her Abuelo. This is why she is the comfort to her family and the miracle of their family. Without her, there is no Encanto. Even her song says what she is.
I’ve said for a few days now that Mirabel would be Abuela Alma’s successor. One thing we have to remember is that Abuela herself doesn’t have any gifts, but her children and grandchildren were all granted them. Mirabel, like Abuela, is a neutral party when it comes to the next generation receiving their gifts. One thing I was thinking about while perusal this: All of the gifts seem to be one-sided. Or, to put it in another way, used in only one fashion. Luisa’s superhuman strength is used only for lifting/moving heavy objects. Isabela’s gift is used solely for decorating. Pépa’s gift for controlling the weather with her emotions seems to be just that: controlling the weather. Need a little rain to water your vegetable garden? Tell Pépa a sad story. Want a light breeze to fly some kites? Get Pépa jealous or angry. Julieta’s gift of healing people with food is also one-sided. She cooks up some arepas (kind of like thick corn tortillas, almost like pita bread from the description I’ve seen) and other stuff, and you’re cured after just one bite. But Mirabel helps people see the other side of their gifts. I think the butterflies and doors are both metaphors for the family’s gifts. Doors can be opened and closed from both sides, and regardless of which side of the door you’re on, there’s still a door that can open and close. Yes, it can look different from either side, but it can still open and close. Butterflies, like you mentioned, are symbols of change or transition, and everybody changes when they receive their gifts.
I wish they spent more time on Abuela’s character arc. I felt it happened too quickly- they glossed over her seeing the error in her way, realizing she’s torn the family apart, and finding resolution. They could’ve elaborated more in my opinion. Like give her a song or something like they did with Bruno, Luisa and isabela going through their emotions lol
Encanto has another exciting new way of telling a story for Disney. It’s almost a reverse of the usual fairy tale they do. Mirabel is outwardly ordinary, has no magic, and doesn’t have animal sidekicks. She is definitely not a princess. But despite being superficially “average”, she has a tenacious intelligence and drive within her that allows her to see things her family don’t and go to incredible lengths to help them. She’s utterly radiant and she’s one of the best Disney protagonists I’ve ever seen. All of the Madrigals are great characters, in fact. I didn’t dislike a single one of them, even the less helpful ones.
I couldn’t identify with the main character in the movie and I loved every single minute of the movie I almost got mad at the grandmother I had like I was like what is Disney doing like I was like it’s Disney really doing this like very sweet and like they’re going to be very seriously in this movie because usually the Disney movie the icing
I have a theory that casita was the soul of abuela’s husband pedro all along, still protecting his family all these years, always expanding and making more room as they grow, only cracking and falling apart to show them what they could lose for rejecting/neglecting not only his only son but his granddaughter Mirabel as well, effectively reminding his wife, his children and their children that a family is only as strong as it’s “weakest” link, and the only weak links in a family are whoever fails to support and accept one of their own.
What I really liked about Encanto was how it helped me feel connected to my Colombian roots. It captures the Colombian lifestyle so well as well as our beliefs in regards to family. I also loved the music as it really touched my heart while also making me want to dance. Encanto is easily my new favorite movie and I can’t wait to see it again.
PB&J is new best triplet set. But Donald is still best uncle. I’ve had “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” playing on a loop in my head for a week now. Often accompanied by some 50-year-old hobo dancing along with a metal pail on his head and a rat in his hand. Disney’s really been into the twist villain thing lately, but this time they inverted it with a twist good guy. Lime green is the signature color for more than a few Disney villains, because it casts the skin in a pale, sickly look that implies the character brings death. But this time, they used lime green to signify how Bruno is perceived by his family and community, when in reality, he’s actually very much one of the good guys, and his eyes only glow green during his visions because that’s just their natural color enhanced and made luminous (Pepa also has green eyes). He’s also a lot like his father, willing to sacrifice himself to protect his family, and especially Mirabel, yet also finding a way to stay nearby in order to make sure they’re okay.
While the format for this movie is radically different than most movies it’s by far the best it shows you don’t need a bid bad villain to live in conflict and not every situation has a clear cut aggressor I really hope encanto doesn’t end here I really want Disney to explore these characters because the interactions would be so unique. The story further has so much potential!!
Each generation has a person that brings balance and leads the family in their own way. The progenitor is abuela. She is the original head of the family and the one that keeps the family together (in her own way, except Bruno). Juanita is the next madrigal of balance. The casita saw this in her and decided to give the gift of healing. This is both literal and figurative. What abuela couldn’t fulfill In being the balance of the family, Juanita did. She manifests an actual gift unlike her mother because the casita knew that her generation did not need a head of the house yet. Mirabel is the third bringer of balance, the casita sensed this in her, hence it responds to her the most. This is also why her room, the nursery, is directly across from abuela and she is the only one to notice that everything was not ok. The entire movie was about the rights of passage. The process of abuela stepping down as the head of the family and mirabel becoming the new head of the family, with new perspectives, new leadership styles and a new form of balance.
Here’s a list of theory’s I could suggest for this movie 1.How Mirabel would become the next Matriarch and the truth upon her ability of no gift. 2.How long was Bruno in hiding 3.The relationship between the triplets (Pepa,Julieta, and Bruno) 4.possible sequel or series? 5.Camilo You see for the 5th one it was said that he was supposed to be a character trying to discover who he is which also makes since why a shape shifting ability is perfect for a teenage character finding out who they are
I like to think that Mirabel’s gift is the house. It listens to her and I don’t really see anyone besides Abuela who can directly tell the house what to do. I would assume this is symbolic that Mirabel is to take over as head of the family once Abuela passes away and Abuela’s gift seems to be to control the house.
I really like the fact that Mirabel didn’t get powers in the end. Sure she became the next “Lady of the House” but I feel like it’s very refreshing to see a protagonist who isn’t “the gifted one” but still worthy of love nonetheless. In a world where it seems like everyone is special, a movie about someone who “isn’t” is very much needed.
This is a very nice explanation. I seen the film and I got it general sense, but your explanations of got Mirabel interacted with the sisters, the butterfly detail, and the connection of Abuela and Mirabel was better explained. I did love this movie and I hope I can see it again. I hope to view more of your review on this film; I too would love to hear more on Mirabel’s role to come. I did wonder if Abuela was in charge, how come she never had a gift too. I mean I know the reason but like why?
Love your commentary, all of them. I’m realizing that Mirabels real gift is one of true, honest communication. Opening everyone up to looking at things they’ve sworn to not talk about, conflict, struggles, insecurities and fears. She was a person that they opened up to and wanted to know what was really going on under the surface of everyone. That open communication would save the family and build a family that would be free to be more than just one gift/thing or nongift/thing. Really like to see the evolution of change that happens when honest communication begins to take place. 🙂
For the ones that were wondering why Pepa is the only sibling with red hair: Colombia is a country well known by the diversity of its people. In Colombia you find all kinds of people and it is completely normal to have family members that don’t look a like but they come from the same parents. For example: a kid can have the red hair like pepa and her/his sibling can have brown hair and brown eyes like Julieta. (Physically different but they still siblings from the same biological parents). I believe it is the same in some other South American countries.
No matter how I think of this though, there is no reason for Maribel not to be granted a gift even if she is the successor. Obviously with or without a gift everyone’s mental health suffered. I dare argue Maribel had the most trauma since she was denied a gift at the ceremony. I just wanna know why ;A;
I enjoyed Encanto and personally related very closely with Mirabel, maybe too closely. Part of me wishes that Abuela wasn’t so easily forgiven for how she treated the family and maybe it is because of my own personal experiences with my own family. I understand it is a Disney Movie, but they are also presenting the topic of a family overbearing their future generations with responsibility that was crippling them and, instead of seeing Mirabel and her sisters all standing up to Abuela, we just see Mirabel and her father speak up on two separate occasions. Again. It might be because I am emotionally charged thanks to my own experiences with this particular topic, but it could have been presented in a way that makes it ok for the family to break apart and for some of the family to go their separate ways because some refuse to change.
I loved this movie it made me cry, I’ve seen it twice and it still made me cry. I hope for a sequel to it, no villains again would be great I hate a mega villains in every movie. If u can write a story without a main villain and still be interesting that’s a great movie. It would be awesome if mirebell gets a gift in the next movie or she can use all the families gifts since she holds the family together.
This is my theory: The reason why Mirabel didn’t get a gift is because she is the embodiment of the flame itself, if you think about it Mirabel is shown to be as warm as a flame through being able to comfort others in a warm embrace and at the end of the movie, after the flame was destroyed, when she put her doorknob in the door it brought the magic back without the need for the flame because Mirabel is the human embodiment of it.
There’s actually this detail in the “We don’t talk about Bruno” that i noticed. Isabella said “He told me that the life of my dreams would be promised and someday be mine” and Dolores’ reading was “He told me that the man of my dreams would be out of reach, betrothed to another”. Spoiler alert: If you saw the ending, you know exactly what I’m about to talk about. Isabella broke up with Mariano and set Dolores up to him as a rebound. That means Mirabel does have a gift and it’s not what you expected. Mirabel’s gift is to be unpredictable, to break everyone’s expectations. She clearly broke the prophecy when it was predicted. Without Mirabel, all of Bruno’s visions come true, but with Mirabel in the picture it all becomes uncertain because she’s the only one who can change it. Bruno saw that the house would be fixed of Mirabel made up with Isabella and it came true, at least for a while. Then the opposite happened and the house broke down as a result. Mirabel’s gift isn’t magical, but more of a conceptual one. She isn’t bound by rules, not even predictions of the future can dictate what will happen to her. It’s not as nifty as it sounds but when paired with Bruno’s prophecies, she can actually make the outcome better or for worse
I think Mirabel did get a gift. Her ability was her connection to Casita and by extension the family. Through out the movie, Casita seems to respond to Mirabel in particular, either through verbal commands or even acting out in response to her emotions. It does work for the others, yes, but it seems like it’s going above to obey her. And since the magic of the casita ties directly to the family’s state of being, Mirabel’s gift would allow her a sort of mental connection to them. The musical sequences could be seen as Mirabel effectively reading her sisters or abuela’s minds. Especially Abuela, where Mirabel seemed to be able to see grandmother’s memories step by step in first person, as if she was actually there. As for why she didn’t get a magic door or room until the end I think was because one: the whole of casita was effectively hers, making the whole house hers. And two: Casita does seem to have a consciousness of its own and perhaps did not know how to or maybe even couldn’t represent Mirabel’s gift as a door until the family could see her greatness themselves. And that’s why Mirabel’s door is the front door of Casita, representing her gift of family and home bonding
You know I thought the prefect one was gonna be the main bad guy, boy was I barking on the wrong tree. But the Abuela being the villain I didn’t see that coming. I never saw the movie, but I’ve read the plot. And it’s hard to be the best at something when you feel alone or have high expectations. I mean look in Steven Universe. But to quote Professor X: “Often a gift can be a curse. Give someone wings and they’ll fly too close to the sun. Give the power of prophecy and they will live in fear of the future.” And I get the Abulea being the eldest strived after her husband’s death, but the more she distend herself from her family the cracks grew. So in all fairness elderly people maybe wise sometimes, but when they take the wheel it always goes down hill.
I believe mirabel is a reflection of her Abuelo, even though she did not have a gift she still spoke greatly abt her family and her willingness to save and candle/miracle despite her not even having a gift as well as how she saw how much it hurt her family speak volumes and makes me think of her as a reflection of her Abuelo
The Yellow Butterfles are a reference to the book “100 years of solitude” in which they appear as a magical element associted to the character of Mauricio Babilonia. The book was written by the Colombian author Garcia Marquez, and it portrairs the “magical realisim” literary style that is so present in the movie: Reality with magical elements.
I saw Encanto the other day, and I just loved it, the characters and the story, everything about it I actually didn’t mind whether or not in the end that Mirabel didn’t get a gift or her own special door. In a way she had a special gift, and that was to be herself. I believe in a way it shows that Mirabel is the only one to remind her family what it was to be a family, flaws and all. In the end, she was the Miracle of the Madrigal family needed. To me at least she was the ‘Heart of the Madrigal family.’ I also like that theory that everyone is saying that Mirabel would be Abuela’s successor of the Madrigal family. In a way I can see it, if you think back in the film she and Casita share a connection. Casita was always there for the Madrigal family especially Mirabel. Throughout the movie Casita in a way was more like a character itself in the Madrigal family, and to Mirabel always helping her and perusal over her and the family. It almost reminds me of the Ocean in Moana in a way, the Ocean looking after and perusal Moana when time being, just as Casita did with Mirabel. There’s a theory or example like when Mirabel didn’t get a gift, I think Casita knew that Abuela was having so much pressure on her family to be perfect that she and the family was loosing sight to their magical gifts that they forgot what it meant to be a family, that Mirabel would be special even if not receiving a gift to show the family they can be more than their gifts in a way. And when the cracks began to appear Casita knew that Mirabel was the only one to save the Miracle in her own way.
What if mirabella gift was some kind of perception? She realizes Antonio is nervous and she knows what he likes. She knows he likes animals which end up being related to his gift. She is the only one able to see the cracks and candel issue. She is the only one to gain her sisters trust enough they confide in her about their troubles. She helps them realize their worth through her unique perspective. She also realizes there is more than appears to the eye when bruno explains the vision is the same. She tells him to follow the butterfly in which leads to more of the vison being revealed. She also comes to realize who “the man of Dolores dreams” is. Despite only hearing her words from one verse of a song. I think mirabel had a gift that wasnt necessarily warranted a door. Having a gift of perception would be tough to create a room specific to that. Mirabel had the most powerful gift of all. She truly loved her family enough to perceive and pay attention to them.
It’d be interesting if they ever think of another Disney movie Encanto 2 or just another where another village somewhere with people with magic powers with similar people that meet the Madrigals. That could be unique. Like the Jetsons meet the Flintstones. The Madrigals meet the Guzmans or some other name and they have powers too.
Love how this was the second movie ( or should I see third family because of LILO and Stitch) along side Frozen that didn’t really need a villain and was just mainly focused on family, sisterhood, and characters having emotional breakthroughs and overcoming their weaknesses and fears to protect and save each other. I really want to see this movie.
People keep saying Mirabel didn’t get a gift cus she will succeed her Abuela, but thats not exactly why i think she didn’t get one. Mirabel was a Glitch created by the magic for them to realise their flaws. For if Mirabel got a Gift, They would all be oblivious to the family breaking apart because none of them would know what life was like on the other side without a gift and Abuela would have continued to be highly expectant of each family member. She was meant to be the one to make them realise that their gifts are not only their worth and make Abuela realise that she needed to love them unconditionally despite their unique gifts.
Her gift was always there all along. She had the power of the original magic, which gave everyone else their magic. Her door was the front door, and she always had the best relationship with la casita. She didn’t need a candle, she was born with the power. That’s how she’s able to bring back the magic after the candle is gone.
I love the idea of Mirabel not getting a gift because she was to be the next matriarch of the family, and now I just imagine that one day when one of Mirabel’s grandkids doesn’t receive a gift the town celebrates even more than anyone else in the family cause they know that the casita chose that child to be the next leader if the Madrigals
I think it might be worth exploring the possible origins of the Casita’s candle. Somehow I think it was Abuelo Pedro’s and he might have known more about the Encanto than Aubuela Amelia. He probably got it for his wife and family in their new home, but the question is: where and who did he get the candle from? Kind of like Rapunzel’s Sundrop having ancient mystical origins, I think there might be something more to the Encanto that the surviving Madrigals don’t know about and it’s worth exploring.
Abuela is the house head due to her having her room or DOOR at the center-high of the house. She was the one heading them. Mirabel is the Houseguide, her DOOR is the main front door of the house in which all the family members are included. The design of the front door shows the entire family together in which Mirabel is the center. Appearing that she is the family member that holds and binds them together now. Solidifying the theory that she will be the next heart or guide of the family for the future generations once Abuela dies.
