  • I just got a computer capable of playing games and I have always wanted to mod Skyrim. Even though it’s 2021 and two years after this article, I gotta say that I’ve been perusal a lot of your stuff and your articles have yet to fail me. Every one of them has been fun to watch and super easy to understand. Thank you so much!

  • BOY WTF… I’ve literally never seen a better Skyrim Mods tutorial before. It’s just perfect, your voice, quality, speed, circles, for both Vortex and NMM and even possible errors plus how to resolve them. And all of that in a very reasonable time… you deserve a medal! May the skyrim gods bless you or what ever.

  • I’m a former console peasant and pretty new to modding. I’ve been playing Skyrim for a week, and you’ve already pulled my fat out of the fire once with racemenu corrupting my saves. I tried to instill FNIS last night but it didn’t work. You made the process crystal clear. However, you also made it clear it’s going to be a lot of work, so I may just enjoy my 30 perfectly working mods for awhile before I tackle moving my game out of the x86 folder. Thank you. Subbed.

  • Marvelous article! Had I decided I was going to heavily mod Skyrim a week earlier, I wouldn’t have found your article, and that thought scares me. I was real lucky! It’s really great, man. Clear, step-by-step explanations that even a troglodyte like me can follow, not to mention your great system for navigation of the article, with clearly-labeled, different sessions for different subjects. The little bar that displays how much time the session has left is just genius. You got yourself a sub.

  • gonna be honest, i tried installing fnis in the past.. it was a vary hit or miss project as it was just leading to frustration. but now i understand mo2 a bit more and didn’t go with installing mods via manual directory, thank you so much. now then, time to install Geralt Of Rivia SSE Voiced Follower The Witcher the reason why i looked back on fnis was because this mod suggested i use some skeletons from fnis so i seeked out the article and went from there.

  • I want to say thank you for this article. You always explain things in a way I can understand which is greatly appreciated. I was having issues with a mod resulting in T-pose and could not figure out what the problem was. Removed it out of frustration. Seeing this article now – I want to give it another try.

  • Hey Poet, I’ve been browsing the internet for quite some time on assistance for file redirection. By the time you’d be able to make a article on it, I will (hopefully) have solved it. But if it’s something you think would be helpful, I think you’d be the first person to specifically make a file on file redirection.

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Honestly, I don’t know why I even bother spending 3 days googling fixes for stuff anymore, since nearly every single time I’ve had an issue, your instructions have fixed it for me! You’re a legend. I love your work. Also, you have a REALLY nice voice, which is a blessing when I’m stressed out of my brain trying to fix something!

  • Thank you Michael. I didn’t realize the default folder was a negative thing before now. I’ve run FNIS in SSE in the default three years… until now. I just followed your clean uninstall/reinstall article and it’s all wiped and ready. So, here we go… Going to make a new folder for my games… I may need to include your handle in the title as an honorarium kind of thing… Phat’s Games.Gamer Poets LO… Yeah… that sounds about right! Huzzah! Thanks again! Adventure on brother, Phat

  • You are seriously a gentleman and a scholar, dude. Started a new Skyrim playthrough, spent some time making the perfect looking character, and then as soon as anyone started moving, it was just T-pose city. I love what FNIS can do, but man, I wish it wasn’t so wacky to get going at times. I hear Nemesis might be a competitor now, though, so hopefully that continues to develop.

  • I just wanna say thank you so very much. my gratitude is immeasurable. i had so much trouble with FNIS and trying to get animations for mods to work and by following your guide it worked. and every other article i watched of yours worked. very simple and easy to follow articles which fix issues ingame. amazing content.

  • It’s 2021 and your tutorials are still the best out there. I hope you don’t mind I downloaded this one and a few others for offline use when traveling (I now archive all the mods I use in case they ever disappear. I’ve learned that lesson the hard way and so I have something to do while traveling). Getting a new theme up and running for Mod Organizer 2 has been a life saver over using Vortex as I can actually see the font better in MO2, however the font used gives me a headache which has never happened before. Also going through this tutorial I found out that MO2 was saving to my smaller driver instead of the D drive which was slowing down my PC so thanks for that.

  • If your having issues with it opening into Mo2 and or having no patches in Vortex (or just not opening) open the FNIS folder and drag it all in the Skyrim game folder so you should have Data>FNSI creature/ and or spells > meshes> scripts> source> scr > tools where the skyrim.exe is located. Then change the Binary/Target to the FNIS.exe through the tools folder as shown in the article. Hope that helps anyone. Took me almost two days to think of this fix as I have really only ever modded on a small scale for Stardew Valley and alike games LOL

  • LOVE your articles!! I’m totally new to gaming and had some sort of fatal crash with Skyrim SE (Lvl 50 and had just finished the main quest line, among others) so I had to uninstall everything and start from scratch! (Didn’t have the patience to keep at trying to figure out the issue😬…probably a bad new mod🤷🤦) So, THANK YOU!!! for all of the time and fabulous effort you put into making these supremely helpful articles!!! Can’t wait to get everything set up to start another adventure, but with FNIS this go around!!! 😻

  • Sir. A quick question if I may. Some more recent FNIS tutorials do not include the step of creating a mod from the overwrite section (8:20). Is this step still needed or has the mod been updated? Or are these other tutorial makers mistaken? Thank you for being one of the most prolific mod tutorial gurus out there!

  • Grate help, personaly i prefer creating an update mod as i use the profiles for major core options such as using 1 body type for all ex. using cbbe or unp for a base or races that can conflict as such each profile can have its own updated finis animation. Its why i moved from nmm to MO sure its more labor intensive but adds more freedoms key point being the profiles option. Its rly the big point for me when it comes to custom races that use a custom body, if its a unp it gets put in the UNP profile with only unp clothes. At lest thats how ive come to use it.

  • Searching for advice from the more mod and MO2 savvy, I’ve followed the tutorial instructions but I keep ending up with a red Overwrite after using FNIS. I have my overwrite directory and mod directory on my game drive with the correct pathing, the settings for the integration tools are all set to true and for some reason, the Tools -> FNIS -> configure FNIS patches option just pops up saying: Unable to find FNIS saying that it can’t find FNIS with MO2’s current settings despite assigning it to my dropdown menu. Any help figuring out this little problem would be greatly appreciated.

  • 8:20 I don’t have most of those options available when right clicking Overwrite. Just All Mods, Open in Explorer and Information… What do? EDIT: I did the troubleshoot thing and created an empty mod, but when I got to the step after Configure FNIS Patches where I run FNIS again, it just opens the yellow FNIS config window again (where you check behaviour, etc). Still have an empty output mod and no idea how to fix it.

  • Hi, I recently installed PCA from vortex. I followed all the installation steps but when I get to FNIS, it doesnt read it, leading to the animations not working in game. I have tried reinstalling everything, making sure all the necessary files are present and in the correct folders and I have clicked the generate button multiple times but it simply does not show up. I am at my wits end here. Does anyone know a fix??

  • I didn’t want to leave a comment, as I’m sure you’re a busy man. I have done everything there is, (yes i know if i did them correctly I wouldn’t be here). I’ve tried the work around for MO2, I tried to do the overwrite empty file mod but I cant clear the overwrite to begin with, it just sticks all my mods into that folder. So then I had to drag them all back to the original mod file. Figured that would work but still everytime I try to generate it crashes like 3 times (closes opens closes opens) then i click on the instance that’s in the taskbar and it only says this Reading FNISBase V7.6 … All Anim Lists scanned. Generating Behavior Files… No GENDER directory male No GENDER directory female Creature Pack not installed 0 animations for 1 mods successfully included (character). 1 Warning(s). I cant even run it from the tools menu at the top because it just says “Plugin FNIS Integration Tool failed: traceback and just a bunch of crap after that. I love the article but i just had to say something in hopes someone can help. If not even that just to vent frustration. EDIT: after dicking around for about 2 hours and re trying everything in the article the only way I could get it to work properly was to re download fnis, and extract just the tools folder into the actual skyrim folder. Then make the executables binary run to that .exe . It finally worked, only lost some sanity. But still thank you for the article its help immensely ❤️

  • ” creature pack not installed ” how do you fix that ? Alright I’m about to pull my hair out does anyone and I mean anyone know who to fix the whole ” FNIS creature pack not installed ” thing A mod I’m trying to download requires it but guess what I could download it to MO2 9 times over and it still doesn’t work and the only fix guides for this issue are from 5 to 4 years ago anyone and I mean anyone know a fix ?

  • Creatures Pack doesn’t get installed and just can’t find a solution anywhere. I hoped in your troubleshooting section but that specific issue didn’t get addressed. It’s been several days now since I’m trying to make it work in Vortex. I read I’m not the only one having that annoying, very annoying indeed, issue.

  • thank you thank you thank you very much .. I have always had problems with this mod it worked for me but it had some errors in the animation such as the blocking .. but I did not know what configuration I needed thanks to your article “0” problem “0” crash all very well and i can try other mods that till now i couldn’t like subscription

  • I don’t know if they explain how to move the game out of the program files because I only watched parts of this but this is how you do it. Go to the steam folder which will normally be in your program files (x86) > steam (it may be different for you) And in that folder delete everything except steamapps folder, and userdata, and the steam.exe so clarification, we want to keep steamapps folder, userdata folder and steam.exe, everything else can be deleted. Then copy the steam folder which contains only those three previously mentioned thing to the new location. After the copying is complete, open steam.exe and it will begin to update, when updating is complete you will need to login in again since auto login won’t be available yet because its like a clean install. And you’re done

  • I’m new at modding, but, I have been doing it for about a month now and just realized I shouldn’t have my game and mods in my program files. I only have one drive, so, it took forever for me to find out how to move it. It was actually simple once I found out (like a lot of stuff in modding that at first seems complicated, but, really isn’t). Anyways, wanted to thank you for your articles.

  • Nice article, tells you everything you need to know as user incl. trouble shooting at the end. Easy time stamps bar in at the top of the screen makes it easy to navigate if you are rewatching at a later date and only need to know how to e.g. uninstall. Love it, thank you very much for this article. 5/5 stars <3

  • I wish Nemesis was as easy to install as FNIS was. Doesn’t matter if I turn off Windows Defender (stupid thing to have to do with a mod), run it as admin, or run it under Win 7 compatibility it just doesn’t want to to run. Oh well. There was about six mods I wanted to use that had Nemesis as a requirement.

  • is there a tutorial about using fnis along side with nemisis? i know its do-able but its a bit complicated for me to understand, something about running fnis, then turning it off and leaving the output plugin on, then running nemisis, creating the nemisis plugin and then turning fnis back on. im just not completely sure. gonna try anyway and see how much i break my animations haha

  • ok, in the MO2 “overwrite” section, i just am not able to understand what im supposed to do there. “make sure the overwrite is empty, if not, drop the files here, where they belong” 1. what files? 2. how is something supposed to be empty, but also supposed to have files in them? sorry if i sound aggressive, its something i just do unintentionally, and dont know how to change

  • 4:45 kinda lost me…. you said “double click overwrite” then something like make sure its empty, if not drop the files here? Which files? And what do you mean make sure if its empty? For me I already have a file in here but does that mean I empty it? Plz help I’m still very new to the mod community

  • Hello, I installed the FNIS mod according to your instructions and I considered the output for it, but every time I get an error that the FNIS launcher does not tell me what the problem is, all the animations are not installed and I have problems while playing. I will also add the prerequisites that you put, but still FNIS is not recognized or installed incompletely, please tell me what to do to install, because the Mod Organize program and FNIS have been updated, I don’t know how to solve the problem.🥲

  • I started randomly getting an error through vortex saying fnis not found and when I download it, it just keeps redirecting me to the same Nexus page. I tried everything from. Installing it but I still get the error. My game runs fine still since I don’t install special animation mods but still really annoying why it just showed up for no reason.

  • Hi im a bit confused. Im using vortex and followed all the directions. Where i got stumped was at 8:45 after i hit save. I checked the same boxes as you but when I hit deploy mods, it says i have to select a deployment method, which i already have (Hardlinnk DDeployment). So i cant get the FNIS_Data folder to pop up. Please help me

  • When I “Update FNIS Behavior”, I get the error: “ERROR: Could not find a part of the path ‘E:\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Skyrim Special Edition\\data\\tools\\GenerateFNIS_for_Users\\temporary_logs\\GenerateFNIS_LogFile.txt’.” It makes sense that it wouldn’t find that file there, since that exact folder doesn’t exist there, but I don’t know how to correct it. I followed all of the very clear instructions, then uninstalled, then did a clean reinstall of Skyrim LE and downpatched it without a hitch, but I’m still getting this error message. It’s not covered in the “Troubleshooting” section of the article. If anyone could help me out, I would really appreciate it.

  • can i get some help please? everything works great up until 3:47, FNIS does not show up for me under the tools tab at all. i’ve tried running generate from explorer, and it gives me >>Warning: Bad installation. Generator not run from \\Tools\\GenerateFNIS_for_Users. If you use a mod manager, run FNIS from its list of supported tools.<<

  • Having an issue where FNIS refuses to output anything to overwrite even though I’ve definitely run it before with output. The only issue I can think of is that I basically copy pasted the entire MO2 directory from my old PC to my new one, but since everything else worked fine I’m not really sure if that’s it.

  • I spent hours trying to figure out wtf was my problem with FNIS after trying to get creatures and behaviors XXL… And then I realized in your tutorial at like 2:47 … All those packs say “SE” after them in the name… Thought this was strange, but maybe it was just due to the version being different and this article being a bit dated… Nope, turns out I went to the FNIS LE versions of those… That explains why FNIS was having problems with FNISBehaviors which was confusing the hell out of me… And I wasted so much time too with so many other things… It feels like such a basic mistake that I was just assuming I wouldn’t have made it when going to download the other FNIS things…

  • OK SO….i have some problems here… i created a new instance in MO2 for SSE without any mods and tried to install Fnis, When I don’t use the creature pack there are no problems, if I try to install the creature pack and start fnis, the error 53 appears, if I go manually to the SSE Folder in the Steam Library I found the files that the error says that doesn’t exist. i tried everything, reinstalling all the mods, recreating the fnis output mod, using the “antivirus Exclusions” and all. Please Someone Help Me XD

  • I have a current running issue. The conflict between FNIS Data and FNIS Behavior ceases to be fixed. I notice that there are 15 conflicting files compared to the 6 conflicting files that this article displays. What is a way that I can fix this without having to change mod organizers or uninstalling FNIS?

  • i know its sorta out of date but when i try to install FNIS it keeps saying i do not have FNIS_aa2.pex i am starting with MO2 after using NMM for years. all my mods are unmangled non M0 mods. i dont have FNIS installed anywhere else just in through SSE data through MO2 and when i try to run it i get error 76, I’ve re downloaded FNIS, i done manual installations, when i go to set the data directory i look in the script folder of the mod and that pex file is not there, i have searched my whole computer for the file and it is nowhere to be found, I’ve been at this for a couple days now if you can give me any insight it would be much appreciated. This whole learning M02 has been a huge hastle lol, ive just been hankering to play some skyrim again

  • Trying to update LE when I’ve already uninstalled the old version. Vortex refuses to install it in the right spot, so now I get to do it manually. I guess I’ll use my SE install as a guide, lol. It’s also wrong, but I can run the tool from the desktop, and it works somehow. Thanks, Vortex! (Both versions are installed on my 2nd drive, and my other mod installations have been problem-free. This one is just… grr.

  • IM having trouble. So im using nexus and when i get to 4:45 in the article i create a new mod and paste the folders “scripts” and “tools”, which is weird because his mods are names SSEEdit Cache and ShaderCache. Also i dont have the “GP mods” section in my modding list. Is it because of that? what am I doing wrong?

  • I know this is an older article, But maybe? My question is if it’s possible for a short article showing how to remove animations from mods? EG having animations linked to mods pushing the limit, but not wanting/needing those animations. I’ve found some answers but they aren’t helping as they all seem to be for manual installations only which I personally don’t do.

  • watched the article and followed step by step. I have changed from vortex which worked quite easily to MO2 which seems a lot more difficult. While following the MO2 instructions I am not getting the same outputs that you are. I am not able to get the yellow FNIS screen when I run FNIS (using the upper right hand corner RUN function. I am sure this is operator error, however since I am doing things exactly as you express them, I am lost.

  • “This mod contains cycles”. It also said I was using a versio of SKSE64 that wasn’t supported by the game. It’s the anniversary version. Loading the game has made it so that it only loads in a small screen within a screen that has all the text multiple and go blurry and visuallly peculiar, for lack of a better description. I should’ve known this wouldn’t work. It never ever has.

  • That article was awesome helpful and mow my Generator does recognise all animations and FNI itself. But now the game crashes 2 seconds after the Bethesda loading screen when I start the game, before that I had no animations but the game was working. What could suddenly be the issue? THe generator didnt detect any conflict

  • Hay I need some help. I’ve been looking through the description for a bit and I don’t see the article on how to move the game outside of the program file. I’m guessing it’s just as simple as finding where your game is and moving it out of the program files; but still I’d like the article or some help just to make sure I don’t brake my game. So if anyone can direct me to the article that’s really all I need.

  • I’m here facepalming after having error messages and turned out, I was trying to use FNIS in Vortex staging folder, not game folder, this causes that not a single added animation work. Now there is actually more then 33 animations on the list. I mean, I’ve gotten SSE to run in such script heavy load, that saving window flashes 3 times before it realizes that I wanted to save and now I needed a guide for simple filepathing 😀 Im getting old. Anyway, I came here to say tutorial is good.

  • so i couldn’t use mods for like a month because i tried the methods listed here and found a three minute version that didn’t require me to relocate my games file. don’t know if that’s because of an update or not but anyone who feels overwhelmed here for some reason should come back later for the extra steps he mentions

  • Ok probably a noobie question but I haven’t been able to find a solid answer to it so maybe u will see this and be able to answer it lol so I downloaded and installed FNIS like you have shown and I believe it is in working order but all of the animation mods I use are using nemesis and I have nothing that is using FNIS I believe..(ive never had to make a file after running FNIS and I read through all of the mod pages that would be related to animations etc. and all say to use nemesis or can be used by either so my question is do I still need FNIS installed and if not how do I get vortex to not freak out because FNIS is missing?? • Hi i keep trying to get FNIS to work using this method however when i launch the game everyone is t psoing and thats with no animations installed i have tried to generate several times now and it still refuses to fix the problem, i also have a warning about skyrim not being legitimate or something even though it is and i bought it on steam years ago, i have tried verifying files through steam and im all out of options, what do i do?

  • I tried being a smartass and using the “download using Mod manager” button and at first it seemed to have worked but as soon as I started correcting the paths for the creature pack and spells mods they started asking to overwrite. I then downloaded manually as you instructed and it worked perfectly 😀 Thanks for these instructional articles dude! I would never know how to make this stuff work otherwise.

  • hi i have anniversary edition and skse working all good in other mods, but when i installed fnis everyone is frozen in almost T position . i restarted from begining with reinstalled skyrim and only skse with fnis with mod orgainzer and vortex but the same result . can u help me pls? greetings from argentina

  • Does the sun icon that appears and a date in M02 normal when downloading it this way? As I’ve noticed when downloading mods through the NMM mod launcher and not manually that icon and date disappears. If it is normal is there any way to get rid of that sun icon/ date and also just curious but why does it appear in the first place?

  • I cant get BlodySlide & OutfitSlider and FNIS to run as executables. I had no problem in Vortex. If I open in them through the .exe and not through MO2 they open so I know the files are working. I dont think I can manually open them like that and they do what they’re supposed to do. Could be wrong on that though. Should I try taking BodySlide and FNIS from D:\\MO2-Game Directory\\SkyrimSE\\mods and put them in D:\\SteamLibrary\\steamapps\\common\\Skyrim Special Edition in a mods folder?

  • Dude I dont know what I’m doing wrong…I’ve watched this and other articles on how to install FNIS with vortex and I’ve been following the directions to the letter and every time I deploy the mods it says that FNIS file is redundant and I can’t get it to let me do anything… spells don’t show up ect… I can not figure out what the heck I’m doing wrong…any ideas on what would or could cause this issue??? Sorry I’m kinda new to modding and I’m trying to learn still so I’m sorry if it is something super obvious or common but I dont think it would be since I’ve not been able to find any sort of answer anywhere YT reddit forums ect…. I’m open to ideas …btw the game runs fine and I’m not 100%sure what mod had it listed as a requirement but I’m assuming it isnt working properly either but again I’m new and this is my first attempt at putting together a mod list … pretty much copied a list from someone who YT who’s game I thought looked good and was still pretty vanilla since I wasn’t looking for anything over the top lol… any help or input or information would be appreciated!!!
