This video teaches how to simulate the magic wand tool in Procreate for iPad to remove areas in your drawing. The Magic Wand tool is useful for selecting areas with the same color or tone and adjusts the tolerance level to control the selection’s sensitivity. It is also helpful for moving elements and adding life to your artwork.
The Adjustments menu in Procreate Pocket has cinema-quality filters and effects, which can be accessed by clicking on the Modify button and then the magic wand symbol. To access the tools, tap on the magic wand tool, which is the second icon on the top left-hand menu in Procreate. Gaussian Blur is a beautiful feature, while the Gradient Map tool was released with the Procreate 5X update.
Procreate has a magic wand tool, which can be used to select areas with the same color or tone. To use the Magic Wand tool, paste an image inside your artwork, tap the selection tool, choose Automatic at the bottom of the screen, and tap on the white part.
ColorDrop is another magic wand tool that can do anything a magic wand can do, making it easier to see what you have. The video emphasizes the importance of understanding the differences between Procreate and Photoshop, as well as the need for the Procreate app to access the Magic Wand tool.

📹 Why doesn’t Procreate have a “Magic Wand” yet?

There’s no alias lasso? Or removing from selections? That’s almost as off-putting as a lack of magic wand tool. I use the subtract (alt) lasso all the time :/ I’m sure they’ll add that eventually, it’s huge. Honestly, though, I hear a lot of people frustrated with costs of Adobe software, but if you need industry standard tools for industry standard products, it’s worth the cost.
Thanks you for making this article. II’m sure there are tons of people who suffer from this issue but do not have the reach you do. To counter this problem I tend to do my flats on separate layers. This way I don’t have to rely on selection tools to prevent painting on other colors. On the downside, I sometimes end up running out of layers while rendering. I then have to merge layers to open up more space which creates the issue of not being able to go back and edit merged rendered layers properly. It’s not the most ideal way to do things but it’s a work around I use. I thought I’d share it for those who might be interested in trying it out.
I definitely agree with needing a magic wand tool in procreate. Oftentimes I do everything up to line art in Procreate and switch over to photoshop for color. Mainly because I like having the magic wand tool and the ability of selecting a color and it selecting anything else that is the same color. Also, the layer limitation in procreate can get pretty irritating at times as well hahaha.
I love the pro-create app but I was having issues trying to figure out why I was feeling frustrated while painting and it’s definitely due to the selection tools. I use photoshop at work and selection mask/magic warnd tool just work so much faster. I’ve watch a load of tutorials online but this is the one feature that I wish pro 5 would upgrade. I do a lot of collage artwork with my own patterns and it does eat up my time clicking 15 subjects to adjust a small detail. Apart from that I love ❤️everything about the app.
That is a major shame. Hopefully it’s something that they add soon. I’ve been perusal your articles for weeks, wanting to really dive into comic coloring and was planning on getting an iPad Pro and using Procreate. Even if it’s less than ideal with all of the extra clicking and whatnot, would you say it’s practical for someone just starting out? Maybe just gamble that they eventually add it?
Your articles are extremely helpful. Thank you so much! Apologies if you’ve answered this in a previous article, but have you found the ‘save and load’ selection useful in place of traditional comic flats, since we don’t have a magic wand in Procreate? Unfortunately we can’t rename selections, which could be a problem in a complicated piece.
Mr. KMR, I’m so happy that I saw this vid and I’ll tell you why. I have just finished your Udemy Beginners course and I am excited to become skilled enough to become a good flatter. All I am using now is an iPad and Procreate. I don’t have Photoshop yet. I saw your vid here on how to flat properly and I saw why this matters to colorists a great deal. You demonstrated this using the magic wand from photoshop so afterwards I sat on my couch and tried to figure out the Procreate equivalent, I’m thinking Why can’t I find this? It’s gotta be here right? Otherwise…and then I saw this vid and the otherwise is verified.
Not only the wand one, but the hashtag joke was very good too, thank you for the giggles. Let’s just hope Savage will listen to these suggestions, non-contiguous magic wand and lasso without anti-aliasing are really missed in Procreate. Also, sorry if you answered this before, but how is your health these days? Are you getting better? Best wishes and thank you for all your hard work! 🙂
