The Magic Wand tool in Paint Tool SAI allows users to select an area of a bitmap based on color, with the ability to specify the color range or tolerance. This feature is useful for coloring images and saves time. However, it sometimes doesn’t select specific parts of the image, such as the body or tail. To fix this issue, users can first select the part they want to color, such as the body or tail, then create a new layer on top and fill in the selected area using the Bucket tool. Repeat these steps with all layers.
The Selection tool, Lasso, and Magic Wand are all tools used for selection, which are enough to get users started with their first PaintTool SAI project. The Magic Wand tool detects edges/regions and automatically creates the desired area. It has three different detection modes: Transparency(Strict), Transparency( ), and Transparency( ).
In order to use the Magic Wand tool in Paint Tool SAI, users must first select the general area by clicking on the area they want to be selected. The tool has three different detection modes: Transparency(Strict), Transparency( ), and Transparency( ).
In summary, the Magic Wand tool is a useful tool for selecting areas of a bitmap based on color, but it may not always select specific parts of the image. Users should use the Selection tool, Lasso, and Magic Wand to create their own selections and improve their painting process.

Thanks to DanishRiku for the request! Sooo yup. Sorry if I started getting tired or monotonous, but this video was around… the …
Haha, I think I understand your question. xD I’ll usually go between the Pen, Airbrush, and Brush tool in my drawings. But I think what you’re asking about is the Brush tool. It’ll usually be fairly light if you go over it once, but darker as you go over the same spot multiple times. Remember that you can also adjust the properties of the tool in the advanced settings! Just fiddle around with it and you should get the general idea of what things do. 🙂 Hope that helped! 😀
Haha, you’ll be able to change colors by clicking anywhere in the color-select wheel or whatever you have active in your SAI. In this article, it’s the wheel and square thing in the upper-left are in the screen. The little icons right above it are various color-related options you can select based on your own personal preferences. 😀
Haha, it’s fine; that’s actually a fairly common question. You can move the layers panel on the right by first going to “window” (top-middle of screen), then selecting “Layers panel on the right” or something similar. 😀 If you need any clarification or have any other questions, feel free to ask! 😀
Ah, there are actually different translations of Paint Tool SAI (it’s originally Japanese I think?), and it looks like we have different ones. Your “detection mode” and “target” should be the same as my “selection mode” and “source,” respectively. Hope that’s right! Shoot me another comment if you have any more questions!
Alright, it looks like you’re just on a wrong layer when you try to select. You can make a different layer active by clicking on it. The layers should be listed somewhere on you screen (in this article, it’s on the right side). You’ll know you’ve selected the layer when it turns blue-ish. Hope that helped!
All the differences you listed are because we have different translations of SAI. Other than the name, if it’s in the same place, it’s the same setting/tool/etc. 😀 For the most part. I have both, so I’ve tested it out. xD And are you sure you’re on the right layer when you try to use the wand? Also, your wand’s detection mode could be set too high. Or… gaps in your lineart… or… that’s about all I can think of. Hope it’s one of those!
Hmm… All I can think of is that either you have your body outline on a different layer from your hair outline, or your lines for the hair are too thin for your wand tool to recognize. o_O As for the color layout, there’s a row of buttons you can select as active/inactive that’s right above the current color layouts. Lastly, if you go to “Window,” there are options to move your panels to the right side of the screen (by default, they’re on the left). Hope that helped!
See, you can do it here! When you drew the circle, the ends were thin and pointy. If it is dependent on the tablet to make strokes like that, then I’m lost since it seems you need some kind of setting…On another note, I’m nervous about buying bamboo because I don’t know which one! I don’t know what the differences are between Bamboo splash, bamboo pen, pen and touch, and all of that stuff!
Hmm… personally, I just have my left hand on the keyboard while I draw with my right. But I’m pretty sure you can get Ctrl+z on a tablet/tablet button through the wacom options. Just search “wacom” in your windows bar thingy (assuming you use windows), select the properties one, and uh… look around I guess. Depending on the tablet you have, you might not be able to do it though. 😛
Huh, yup, it’s completely dependent on having a compatible tablet. 😛 I don’t really know what else to say about that. o__o However, for the possible tablets to buy, any of those would be fine! As far as quality goes, they’re pretty much the same. The only difference is price (so lower is better, you’ll probably get as low as $60-ish), and the software that comes bundled with it. I tend to suggest Bamboo Splash to people, and it’s seemed to be good advice so far! 😀
When i selected a part with the magic wand, I’m not able to color anything else… Even if it’s not the same layer, how can i stop that? Can you help me? I got the test version of PTS yesterday. i can’t find the answer anywhere :/ Maybe you said it and i didn’t even understand.. 😮 (I’m german, so sorry if you said how that works)
Hi I am new to SAI. But I use PS and 3Dmax I am 100% familiar with magic wand etc. But here ins SAI: Every time I want to use the magic want for a 2nd area it selects the entire screen. I have managed to select all the skin of my model, but when I want to select the hair (all lines are 100% closed) I cant it pick the entire screen. And how do you get that color choice layout under the color prisme” and how do you get one part of your menu on the right and the other on the left.
Thank you! 😀 I’ve tried the things you were explaining, and it works!…. with.. the target “working layer”. I’ve tried the selection source-thingy, but it still selects the whole picture.. 😛 If you don’t know what might be the problem, it’s okay :D. I’ll just try to figure out myself and.. play with it and stuff 😛 But thanks for doing the article! 😀 It helped!
