She can shapeshift, she can just rearrange her cells thru shapeshifting so her body can heal its wounds, sewing it together. She also has superhuman healing factor, so i dont know how the hell she wud die from getting stabbed like that. Also, her shapeshifting also grants her the ability to move her organs, the moment she gets thrown off she can just move her organs out of the way so they wont get stabbed by the sharp planks. Or maybe jennifer lawrence just wanted to be out the franchise anymore so they killed her character.
Goes to show that Oscar wins and other acting accolades don’t necessarily make you a good fit for every character you play. Rebecca Romijn-Stamos was “just a model” and yet she played Mystique with conviction, aplomb, and gusto, while Oscar-winning Lawrence seemed to be reading from a teleprompter (and badly, at that). I am hoping that if an eventual MCU X-Men film gets to play with multiverse shenanigans, Romijn-Stamos makes a surprise appearance (ideally, giving Wolverine another good fight).
i really wish we could have seen a happier ending for beast and mystique. she loved him from the moment she met him cause he made her feel less alone in the world. but when he said she would never be seen as beautiful (he meant by society and at the time, he was VERY self-conscience about his mutation), that hit her hard. so hard, that she kept running back to erik cause he cared about her as she was. but when mystique told beast how his words impacted her, you could see it in his face that he loved her and never meant to hurt her. i do like that she was able to say “i love you” to him before she died though.
I was under the assumption that Mystique had a healing factor, minor or near-fatal injuries would be healed…did the writers forget this plot point or was it the fact that Jennifer no longer wanted to play the role due to the makeup etc and they killed her off? They could’ve easily recast is necessary.
Actually One of Mystique Power Highlight was Fast Regeneration, she doesn’t even have scar and the only wound that made her difficult to heal was a stab in the chest she got from logan,,,, Logan and Mystique are two mutants features Fast Regeneration Ability made them almost immortal and very slowly age…. it’s just so happened that Jennifer Lawrence really pushed the desire to retire the character of Mystique…
Losing someone that close to you is more than just personal, it was too much and in her last moments she was trying to tell him she loved him and barely got the chance. Someone trying to tell you that they love you in their last moments and dies right there, that’s beyond messed up. The damage was done and she couldn’t get off in time.
went to see this in theaters. they audience actually applauded when jennifer lawrence character was killed. she was terrible as mystique. and the movies were written with her character heavily involved only because of her popularity. she single handedly destroyed the franchise. but days of future of past was 🔥🔥🔥
In Charles defense, maybe he was in shock or maybe her past betrayal of him (leaving him paralysed in the sand) effected him more emotionally than he lets on. Plus, Jean is still a kid, he probably didn’t want her to feel more guilt than she already did or cause her powers to attack everyone by witnessing him breaking down.
Just came here after viewing clips from the first two X-Men movies, and the difference is just night and day. In the earlier films the writing, acting, make-up, even the CGI are all world class, holding up well even to this day despite the fact that they’re over 20 years old. Here, Mystique’s skin look painted on, Beast look like a care-bear or a muppet, the dialogue is painful, and despite a number of the actors being world-class performers, these performances really show that they’re just so done with this franchise. What an ignoble end for what was once a truly special series.
Jean Grey’s “floating and landing on the ground” is the best I’ve seen in so many movies–it is totally believable she was in total control. In so many movies, the actor’s knees buckle a little (due to being human and “flying” with a rig being controlled by a technician). perusal the movie at home, I reviewed this scene so many times just for that!
I don’t know why they keep trying to do the Phoenix Saga – no one’s managed to do it just since – The story arch for that entire series was spic and the course material from the cartoons alone was enough to go on. They chat so much rubbish about “translating it to screen”. It’s just laziness and greed. If they had taken Marvels approach and thought about unfolding this story over time, over an arch of several sorts with this story being scattered throughout them. Which would have left room for Lilandra and the Shi’ar as well. They could have really done something special and Sophie turner was EASILY the best Jean grey we’ve had. It’s a such a shame because this had the potential to be amazing.
I really think Charles WAS in shock. He had tears in his eyes but he also chose to keep his emotions under control. He knew the pain of EVERYONE he had to learn to keep himself under control. He couldn’t loose it. His reaction was appropriate for his character when you really think about it. He experienced shock, pain, and loss so many times before (in his own experience and through other people) that he just knew how to react to it. That’s my take.
It makes my heart break. Poor Raven. She was one of Three Whales of X-Men (her, Charles and Erik). Poor Hank, he loved her so much and she loved him too, they could have happy future together😢 Charles and Erik lost their sworn sister… Jean will always live with a sense of her fault, even though it was an accident… A terrible accident😭😭I am crying😭
jean grey is a very powerful mutant and she has all objects controlling power but, when we see jean grey flying she controlls the nearby space and she uses the the space around her to kind of float or she is warping space around her, maybe that’s how she flies. but when superman is flying, it’s pure flying. its like he can escape gravity. and when we see jean’s hair floating in air we can see gravity also don’t apply on her hair or herself.
the only thing okay done in this movie was the flying and hovering part. No excessive WOOSH because they are just hovering bc their powers aren’t energy repulsion or anything else bc those powers they have here are silent. But to look up when you fly away… unless there are power cables nearby, why would you stare into nothingness when flying upwards? I’d look down to make sure no one is following/attacking me.
What gets me about this movie is that Charles sort of knew something like this would happen because in Xmen days of future past he looks into wolverines mind and sees everything including how he had to kill jean of the alternate timeline due to her becoming uncontrollable. So you’d think if they had kept the continuity going Charles would not only try to stop this from happening but atleast tell Hank about what he saw in Logans head all those years ago.
This literally looks like a high school play. Four of the best actors of their (admittedly young) generation, and it makes the mess of X3 look like a Spielberg Oscarfest. Just a thought guys…do the PHOENIX Saga before you try the DARK Phoenix Saga. How did the cartoon get it so right and the movies have bombed on this twice now?
Charles’ reaction to Raven’s death is pretty much the audience’s. Honestly, the main problem with the Dark Phoenix movies is that they skip straight to the Dark Phoenix. Not really diving into the psychological struggles Jean had. And if they do it again in the MCU, the story should be a two maybe three Parker. First one focuses on Phoenix, the second focuses on the Hellfire Club, and then Dark Phoenix as the third part.
Honestly I never saw the movie but I just recently found out that mystique said that she couldn’t remember the last time Charles Xavier was risking something, really she says that to the man with no super physical strength that goes into battle and gets a bullet in his spine, getting a building tumbled over him, and having a super mutant trying to destroy his mind in the effort of taking over his body for himself, making Charles a crippling bold man, and even after all this he still Bears the beliefs of coexistence with humans and once to be a teacher of all. Honestly I have the biggest smile when I saw her die, and it’s funny that mystique says that she “couldn’t remember” considering its Jennifer Lawrence the woman with a memory so short that she cannot remember any female lead action movie that happened before Hunger Games. Seriously she should play dory in Finding Nemo because that would be the perfect mindset for those two.
It’s annoying how in every movie with Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique looks less and less like Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique. (And yes it was obvious in days of future past she was wearing a body suit. It wasn’t convincing, and she looked like she was wearing a cheep onesie) The makeup process gets lazier, and here the shade of blue almost looks white. Good riddance to someone who couldn’t appreciate the character she was given.

This might be a randomly bizarre theory, but what if this justifies how Charles and Magneto were seemingly having feelings for Mystique in these movies, but close to none of that in the original trilogy? What if this Mystique was not the same as the one Rebecca Romijin played? Perhaps, they treated OG Mystique differently because she wasn’t the “real” Mystique
Literally did not feel A THING for this scene same as all the X-men (except Beast). This version of Mystique is the worst and totally off. It was a terrible idea to turn her into this “good X-men mentor” identity. So glad they killed her off. Plus, what is wrong with her wig and skin color in this movie? She is known for her DARK BLUE skin and dark red hair. She got that in the previous movies too. Here in this movie, her skin is like light blue and pink hair. It looks like a cheap halloween version of Mystique.
