  • I was there in the audience that night – it was amazing! I was just about getting used to the fact I was perusal the absolute Legend that is Barry Manilow perform….then suddenly the boys appeared at the top of the stairs and I just lost it (and as you can hear, so did the whole audience too)! Baz + Gaz + Rob = fangirling of EPIC proportions! I was one very happy bunny that night! 😉

  • Gary I am so impressed with you…you have no idea. Everything you went thru 12 years ago with Robbie. How you let all of that go in forgiveness. You’re a beautiful example for me and what I just recently experienced. I am taking the higher road also…transmuting the hate and integrating. Transforming my experience for the benefit of humanity. Thank you…Namaste

  • A great version. They could do it again with Donna Summer on a article clip behind or as a hologram figure. I think that when Barry sang his later parts there was the Donna Summer style in it. Barry wrote the song and has always shown such respect and enjoyment of singing with the people who released later versions. Absolutely fantastic performance this is. To be fair, Barry has probably enjoyed raking in all the royalties anyway from these later stars.

  • I grew up in the 80s hearing the Manilow version first, but I was a little kid so I never paid attention to the emotional depth of the song, it was just a tune in the background of my life. So as a teen in the 90s, I heard the Take That version and was just very aware that it was a remake (I’d never heard the Donna Summers disco version, that says a lot about what my parents were listening to lol). Being in my 30s now, the Manilow version is just pulling tears out my eyes, but the Take That version brings back fun, happy memories. The Tony Orlando version is also good; and I think that’s the mark of an well-written song: it works in any genre you play it in.

  • Barry Manilow is the master… i was lucky enough to be a teen when he made is way up the charts. Gary and Robbie are magnificent as well but… they will not reach their peek for many years yet. I am only sorry that Barry saw it necessary to do strange things to his face… he was gorgeous as he was ~sigh ~

  • That was special Thanks. Love both versions, Barry did a great job with this…..where would we be today without the pioneers of modern music, Chopin, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and later Rachmaninoff, etc etc ( “All By Myself ” and ” Fooling Myself ” tweaked by the genius Eric Carmen on Rach piano concerto 2 ) ….. Check out Eric Carmen, he wrote other beautiful tunes.

  • I get a kick out of this article…a very fun performance. Take That is pretty much unknown here in the US, as is their version of the song…but Barry and Gary and Robbie blend the two versions SO well together. And seem to be having a great time. At 70yrs, Barry’s vocals really shine on this song. It’s one of his very best…hard to replicate his style…

  • I really wish that TT could achieve a more broader appeal and audience like Duran Duran or even East 17 than simply a female saturated market grrrr it must get so TIRING and tedious playing out to screaming girls all the time-I know I get bored talking about them with lust-driven ladies all the time and blokes yawning and turning away
