On Christmas Day, Is Six Flags Magic Mountain Open?

Six Flags Magic Mountain in Santa Clarita, CA, is open on Christmas Day but with limited hours and operations. The park typically observes Christmas Day as a holiday and closes its gates to visitors. The Holiday in the Park seasonal event at Six Flags Magic Mountain starts at 5 p.m. each night and runs on Nov. 23-26, Dec. 1-3, Dec. 8-11, and Dec. 15-31. The park is open every day in the summer, weekends only during the school year, and extra days during holidays. Admission fees and per-car parking fees are charged.

The park typically operates on a reduced schedule during the holiday season, with most major attractions showing a wait of 30-40 minutes, usually indicating a crowded park. However, most Six Flags parks are open on December 25, with some exceptions and modifications due to the pandemic. The park transforms into a magical winter wonderland with over two million twinkling lights, festive treats and sweets, holiday music, and more.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is open from 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. on Christmas Day, with municipal train service may be limited on Christmas Day. Amtrak Trains are available for those who cannot make it to the park. The ninth annual Holiday in the Park seasonal event returns to the Valencia amusement park on select dates from Thursday, Nov. 23 through Dec. 31.

  • I unfortunately do not live in cali anymore. I used to abd I’d be a regular at Magic Mountain, where the workers used to recognize me. perusal you ride the rides made me miss it and I really enjoyed perusal you guys. Sometimes the articles get a little boring, but this was one of the better ones. I stayed to the end for you guys thanks for the article made me miss all those rides.

  • When I was there in Nov. ’19: 1: the smallest coaster I was allowed to ride was Road Runner Express Superman was down, and West Coast Racers wasn’t open yet. 4: Tatsu; 3: Riddler’s Revenge; 2: X2: 1: Twisted Colossus. I’d probably put Wonder Woman Flight of Courage at my #3 spot ahead of Riddler’s Revenge and behind Tatsu. (idk about West Coast Racers but I’ve ridden Jersey Devil and loved it, so Flight of Courage is even better, especially for the park it’s in.) I’d put Flight of Courage at #3, putting RR at #4 and West Coast Racers at #6 after Tatsu or vice versa. Then Viper comes in at #7 for me if not Full Throttle.

  • I went to Magic Mountain in June 1976. The Great American Revolution, as it was called then, was way better than it is today. No trim brakes whatsoever. The last turn was incredible to watch when you walked by as you could see the steel bending from the trains when it rounded that last turn at such high speed. Not so much today. The trains almost come to a stop at the top of the last turn now. The Great American Revolution is a shadow if itself today. What Six Flags has done to it is criminal. Do they still have movie advertisements on the trains? I didn’t notice. That was a lovely feature Six Flags added. And those trains? Talk about cornball heaven. Take a look at the way it used to look in the movie Rollercoaster released in 1977. I like your comments about all the rides. For such young guys, you appear to be experience riders.

  • Hi Dashie! 1. Do you think riddlers would get the pipeline treatment? 2. My mom also tells me about how her and her brothers would marathonnn gold rusher back in the day lol 3. Viper is really that girl and I’m glad she’s getting her flowers on this website and 5. Can we get a new bucket list coaster and even flat ride article since you’ve been on a lot of your dream coasters? K. Thanks.

  • I finally got to Magic Mountain last summer. X2 was probably my fav but the ops were absolutely terrible and did take away from the experience a bit. Literally 5+ min in between dispatches and a crew that just moved slow, barely spoke, and looked like they wanted to be anywhere else. But the ride itself is pretty awesome!

  • I’m envious — I wish I could’ve spent a quiet Monday at SFMM. I’ve not yet been there since it’s on the complete opposite side of the country, and I haven’t been able to manage a trip between the time of year I’m able to go with the park being quiet but having all the roller coasters open (or supposed to be open) with traveling expenses, etc.. Now I know a Monday in April is a good time to go, so maybe April 2025 will be when I finally make it there. I was very curious about what your opinion of Scream was going to be since I’ve heard nothing but how awful it is from multiple enthusiasts. Given that I have so many similar opinions on coasters that I’ve ridden as you do about them — and you tend to like many coasters that most enthusiasts abhor but I like (Nighthawk at Carowinds for example), I’m going to trust your take on Scream. I thought it was great that you both mentioned how appalling Vortex is because it absolutely is — I genuinely dislike that coaster, and I don’t even ride it anymore at all when I go to Carowinds, which is pretty often since it’s one of my home parks. Twisted Colossus, Full Throttle, and Tatsu have always looked like such great rides, and X2 is one of my bucket list US coasters. I’ve always had the impression that Apocalypse is a good woodie, and you substantiated that for me. I don’t know why so many enthusiasts hate on Batman the Ride clones. I could care less that they are clones, and the one at Six Flags Over Georgia is a great ride — intense as hell.

  • i put riddler last of all the thrill coasters. it hurt my legs so badly and gave me a headache, and didn’t do anything for me except for some positives in the valleys but i couldn’t enjoy those because every time there was a strong moment of positive g’s my legs would be in hell. i only rode it once so maybe ill have to give it another chance but was almost pure pain for me before

  • My rankings as of my most recent visit 1 Twisted Colossus 2 X2 3 Tatsu 4 Wonder Woman FOC 5 Batman The Ride (I only prefer SFOGs) 6 Viper 7 West Coast Racers 8 Apocalypse 9 Full Throttle 10 Ninja 11 Riddler’s Revenge (I feel like the ride had so much potential the layout is probably top 5 when it comes to B&M) 12 Goliath 13 Scream 14 Superman Escape From Krypton 15 Revolution 16 Gold Rusher

  • I really dont like twisted colossus. Has all the ejector, but lacks the sense of speed of goliath Scream is awesome so underrated. I love the intense forces in the valleys and the float and whip in the inversions high off the ground. I had a season pass and never was riddler open when i went last year. Sad. Love that thing

  • my rankings and opinions: X2 Twisted Colossus Tatsu (this and tc are interchangeable) Full throttle (this doesn’t feel short to me cuz it does so much in its layout, also the brakes do at to the airtime) wwfoc (underrated, but still not comparable to the top 4 cuz the airtime isn’t rmc ibox level ejector, and its basically just a more diverse b&m mini hyper) BIG GAP west coast racers (very diverse layout, but the airtime isn’t too strong besides the first high five, and the comfort collars suck for me) riddlers revenge (standing doesn’t mind me pls don’t convert it to a sit down or floorless) apocalypse (I use to not like it but my tolerance for roughness got higher, airtime is kinda weak ngl) viper (a little janky but it doesn’t bother me that much, VERY intense in the first half, second half gives super good hangtime) batman (overrated ride lol, for me not as intense as people say, I only gray out at the bottom of the loop and the rest is bland cuz it just does what flight deck does but worse) goliath (more intense than batman but batman is more consistent and has a better layout) scream (I don’t think it’s very intense with forces, but it’s still very fun and the parking lot and almost nonexistent rattle don’t bother me at all) revolution (the incredicoaster of six flags) im gonna ride superman today lol expect that in an edit

  • Im going the first week of May. Unfortunately i do not think Wonder Woman will be back running. A buddy of mine who works on JDC (which has also been closed) told me that there is a recall on some part on the wheel and they are waiting for RMC to come out abd replace it. May only pertain to the JDC & Wonder Woman model
