The Sta-Rite IntelliPro Variable Speed pump is a versatile and energy-efficient pump suitable for various water applications, including pools, spas, cleaners, waterfalls, and other water-related tasks. It can be programmed using the control panel, which allows for programming to limit pump performance potential with old or questionable equipment. The pump can be set to run at 12 hours per day, 24 hours per day, or 24 hours per day. The time setting can be adjusted using the up and down arrows. The pump can also be programmed to cover gaps quicker by holding it down. The manual provides instructions on how to start and stop the pump, set and change programs, and access pump features. For best results, use only genuine Sta-Rite factory parts. Before starting, it is important to prime the pump (page 19) and be aware of the code requirements for electrical connection. The manual also includes warnings and safety instructions for Pentair Aquatic Systems pumps and related products. The manual is important for operating and maintaining the product, and should be retained for future reference.

Thank you. Love the pump, but the control panel is very difficult to use for the homeowner who only needs to change things once or twice a year. It’s great once it is setup. BTW – thanks for the info about the watts, I will have to see how mine is setup to make sure I am not wasting electricity by running it too fast when I could run it slower for longer.
Whoever did the software for these things was bereft of knowledge of any previous control systems out there. So were the people advising them. Having a “Quick Clean” time factory set at 6 minutes is proof. Worst of all it the Jandy VS. You can barely see the display in direct sunlight, and the programming is profoundly counter-intuitive. I can barely figure them out with a factory diagram in my hand. I’ve been working pools for 30 years. I now recommend 2-speed motors. No electronics, no drive to replace, On the power center, add a 2-speed relay. On electro-mechanical timers, add a T106 (Intermatic) timer. The motors are bullet proof and have been on the market for decades, and you can use the existing pump wet end. Thanks for posting this article!
When my Pentair variable speed pump was installed about 3 years ago, there was only one sketchy YouTube article about it. Finally, someone come up with a “how to” article in real time. I tried printing out the programming instructions from the manual, but it might as well have been in Greek (or maybe Chinese). Thank you!
My electric bill is thru the roof! I’ve begged my.pool man to set the timer at lower speeds and less time. He just set it at the highest power usage as possible. After perusal this vid. Now I can control the power usage to a reasonable wattage. *WARNING* Watch this article so your pool guy doesn’t hold you hostage!!!
Now…If I can just g outside and do this. This instruction article was absolutely tremendous!! I am keeping you on my sort of speak, “You Tube SPEED DIAL”…I have no idea really on my speeds min and max, so I am going to do yours, important thing for me is to get this thing up and running, it has been installed (used), for 2 months and not yet programmed. This is going to help so much, cant thank you enough!!
We started using a new pool guy a couple of months ago and my electric bill has gone through the roof. I have solar so I should be paying a little to nothing to the electric company and this past month my bill was over $300. He claims the pool pump is running for nine hours but I hear it coming on twice a day. I have this pool pump timer and the dial timer and I’m not sure if he has them both set or what but I need help resetting everything.
Forgot the all so important “PASSWORD” mode😎 We set ALL our weekly pools with password protection because we got sick of customer messing with pump, pool goes green/foggy and they NEVER admit to “touching anything” lol! Depending on what part of country you live in, your pools size, gallons, and SUN EXPOSURE is how you should program the pump. I have one customer who “claims” this pump isn’t saving them ANY money on electric. I got so tired of the complaining I actually sat down and made a spreadsheet that CLEARLY shows pumps hours and watts used per day vs. their old pumps constant use of 1780-1840 watts for 12 hrs a day. Sorry, the math doesn’t lie. Also, key here if you have a salt system or heater is that you MUST have enough PRESSURE to activate the flow switch / pressure switch. BUT! If your filter backs up (gets dirty) it is going to change what flow/pressure needed. Yeah, we get blamed for that too. Lol! If your planning a party, want to heat up pool and have timer set? Your heater is going to STOP. So THIS is where the egg timer comes in real handy. You can set egg timer for your pool to be warmed up for party and then forget about it and it will go back to normal. Just TRY to remember to shut off/turn down heater sometime soon after your party.
My controller won’t come on after a storm cannot get the pump to run. I can turn on the lights and control panel comes on. I turn the pump on and the goes red but the pump doesn’t turn on? They checked and the controller on the pump has power. It was disabled before the storm and all the programming was from the control panel. So pump won’t come on and controller is off? Please help me how to get this back up and running. Thank you
I just had the latest Pentair 3hp pump model 11056 professionally installed. I verified the settings with Pentair tech support. I did the math and do not really see the electric savings. The pump runs for 8 hours at 1300 rpm using 146 Watt/hours total 1168 watt/hours, next it runs for 2 hours at 2750 rpm 1265 Watt/hours total 2530 watt/hours, The pump needs to run for 1 minute at 3450 rpm 38 Watt/hours to get the Kreepy Krawley (Pentair pool sweep) to start. Total for the day 3736 Watt/hours. My old Hayward 3hp SUPER 11 pump was running 3450 rpm for 2 hours a day at 8.3 amps on 230V total 3818 watt/hours per day. Power savings of only 82 watt/hours per day with the new Pentair pump. I know for sure that I will not see any savings on my electric bill with all the other power I use. ALSO: for a brand new model pump it’s programed with a obsolete daylight savings time. Daylight saving time before 2007.
I do not see any difference in my electric bill using my new 3HP Pentair variable pool pump over my old Hayward 3HP super 11. I have a kreepy krauly pool cleaner made also by Pentair and it takes full 3450RPM to for the Pentair pool cleaner to work properly. When I called Pentair they told me that they recommend 3450RPM for their Pentair Kreepy Krauly to work as it should. I also notice that the Pentair at 3450RPM is a little noisier then my old 3HP pump, also my old pump primed a lot easier after cleaning the filter.
I have an Intelliflo that was installed in spring of ‘23. Is there any difference in programming that one? Or is this article appropriate instruction for my pump as well. ? My max speed is 3050 rpm. I do not want it running at that Power constantly. I’m goi g to bring this article with me back to the pump & HOPEFULLY figure out how to set it
Hello, great articles easy to understand thank you. I like to ask you a question on the speed of the pump. My pool is 25,000 gallons, can you tell me the best speed to run in and for how long. The pool service company keeps telling me if I run it at a low speed for a longer period of time the pool water is not being filtered. They recommend running it at a high speed for 6 Hours and for some reason the water still looks a little dirty and at times it starts building yellow algae. Can you help me out with any information thank you?.
Thanks this helped a lot. I just lowered 12am-3am setting from 3100 to 2800. 7am-7pm to 450( which was not set and I knew nothing about) Quick Clean is good to go. Previous owner had all types of settings for all the speeds which was confusing me. I’m trying to simplify matters. Next I need to find out how many gallons the pool is for the most efficient settings for AZ.
When I turn my pump on that has the same key pad model as your great article. But I’m getting an “error 01” message and it won’t allow the pump to turn on (nothing just clicks and shuts off). Do you have any suggestions? I’ve reset and killed the power for a few days to be sure it wasn’t overheating. I spoke with the manufacturer but they were no help and I have read over the manual. I’m located in south scottsdale, sounds like you mentioned you were in Phoenix. Thank you kindly for any advice.
Very through demo, thanks. My question is regarding ‘Spa’ pump vs ‘Pool’ pump, specifically what/how to program the ‘Spa’ pump, since all the schedules I set seem to fire off with the ‘Pool’ pump green (ie: ON in the phone app). I can manually activate the ‘Spa’ pump from the app (our spa is embedded in pool corner). Are there any specific program settings to be mindful of, regarding ‘Spa’ pump?
What is the difference between setting one of the 1-8 Speed options or setting one of the Program 1-4 options? I have our pump set up with two scheduled timers. For some reason our pump keeps defaulting to a ‘Program 4’ that shows a specific rpm and :01 time (which is not the Speed 4 setup!). If I push one of the Speed button setups it selects and changed, but then the screen bounces back to this Program 4 setup within seconds. I have no idea why the pump has suddenly decided to do this. This Program 4 setting will not turn off at all (unless I power off the entire pump)! Help!
Hi, great article, I have 2 STA-RITE IntelliPro Variable Speed Programmable Pump that were install in 2014. I use “Set Time” to set the IntelliPro system time. The system clock is suppose to store the correct time for up to 96 hours after power is shut off or before a reset is needed. When the clock reaches 12am it stops and the pumps do not come on as scheduled because the clock is not working. I have to go in manually each day and reset the system clock. Thoughts, suggestions? Thank you
Thanks for this good presentation. I have one question regarding those various program settings, program 1,2,3,4 etc. Does one select one program to run every day or do they run consecutively, first to last and start over again. If one program has to be selected for daily runs, how is that selection made. Thx.
We have this exact system and we are trying to cool the pool by running the aerator. We have no idea and cannot find documentation on how to run the aerator only in a cycle, so it is steady without the pop-ups taking away the pressure. I hope this makes sense, we are in Phoenix AZ and the pool is about 94 degrees. I hope someone can help. Thank you in advance!
aloha thx, good article, I have the intellflow pump with save not escape button, and with no remote cable to a jandy rs aqualink control box, freeze protect message comes on the one touch house controller. does the intellflow pump have to be set to a schedule on the pump itself or does it have to be set to manual on the pump control pad? do i have to set the time and date as well? the pump is wired only to the filter relay on the jandy aqualink. Has been running fine for years like this, but I had to replace the circuit board one touch and transformer for the jandy aqualink. Freeze protection comes on in hawaii 75 degrees every night ???? can the dial freeze sensor be replaced w a jandy air\\water style sensor? Now its disconnected w the air temp disabled.
Some reason my pump just turns on when I hit the Start/Stop button. It does turn on the amber light, but the pump comes on. I guess I’d of thought that’s what it’s supposed to do, except when you did it your pump didn’t come on it just turn on the Amber light. Oh wait. I bet you hit the Start/Stop when the pump was outside your schedule huh? That must be why mine’s coming on straight away.
is there a way to disable permanently the prime feature? we want to install that pump on an above ground pool.. we are affraid that this 3000rpm prime would destroy the above ground pool..especially the thin plastic skimmer that most above ground pool have. also 3000 rpm is way overkill and could collapse or implode flexible pipes.. and what happen after a long power outage? will come back to factory thus active the 3000 rpm prime? if that is the case and happens while the homeowner is gone, it will destroy some pipes and create a big mess in the yard and many basements in the area.. is this a good idea to install it on an above ground pool?
