in my experience extractors are useless instruments of pure pain and torture….try one for yourself as opposed to a good ole’ tried and true progressive squeeze with finger tips or better yet cotton swabs ( Qtip type but with a strong wooden stick under the cotton). just a gentle and constant pressure will slowly and safely take out any black head…some are deeper like milia and they might need a small hole of incision on top of the pimple to give it a way out!…but its simple common sense….dont use those extractor tools they do more harm than good every time…and are super painful!!!! You dont always need a dermatologist…if you can see it…you can take it out…if not you can ask a trusted friend or family member! just do it logically and know your limitations! but most just let it go too far before they excise them out! keep a good cleaning / hygienic regiment every day..if you have more oily skin… its all preventable well most are especially black heads and pimples…!
Is this problem exacerbated by not washing one’s face daily or is it more complicated than that? I was taught to wash my face every morning by my I talisman mom but must admit it is not a habit I forced my children to do. Because we are not living with old time ways like heating the house with wood or ant other form producing smoke which like it or not accumulates on our face and much less our exposed limbs.

Does anyone else find those blackhead extractor tools deeply unsatisfying to watch? They seem to put on massive pressure to get not much result. I tend to hug myself anxiously while thinking “for pity’s sake, just squeeze the darned blackhead out” They often seem to leave half the grease in the pore.

Not sure if you have heard of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome? But there are some medical conditions that dont respond to Lidocaine. EDS is one. My daughter would SOB, with ingrown toenail surgery. I felt everything with biopsy(unfortunately fighting breast cancer.) We dont respond to Lidocaine. Completely feel a root canal, the dentist said I had enough numbing to knock out a horse. Mercaine(sp?) worked for my kids ingrown toenail surgery(9 of them.) So for future reference. It could be the medication to numb isn’t working.
I wish the doctors who post these articles would show a time stamp in the corner. Some of these seem they would take seconds to complete, but there are splices in the article where some time skips forward. Other times I suspect it took hours to complete a task. I’d love to know that “fourth dimension” of the events.
She didn’t actually completely extract all of those blackheads. She only got out the surface contents, so some of those will come back. Extractors are only good for shallow blackheads. Deeper, and they don’t work unless you apply as much pressure as you would with your fingers. I love your show, Dr. Lee, but you’re not getting it all. Is it about numbers rather than complete removal? Then again, all of these large pores will eventually refill in the same way unless you completely extract the pore and sew it up. That’s unnecessary. I’m sure she prescribed medication to dry these up so they don’t reform. She had to have done that.
