Should I Pay For The Spells In Cataclysm?

Cataclysm introduced scaling and removed spell ranks, but still required players to buy from a trainer. The game now scales with the player’s level and eliminates the need to down-rank spells. Spells require mana to be cast, making them more offensively focused and limited by how they are cast. Talent changes introduced new spells to the trees, while passive bonuses that provide power will disappear.

Cataclysm also removes spell ranks, allowing players to only have one version of each spell in their Spellbook and no different ranks on their bars. The Colossus Smash is the newest spell all Warriors get in Cataclysm, which allows them to bypass all of the target’s armor. However, players do not have to pay for the upgrade, as they just get the mount and pet without an upgrade.

Spells cost a fixed percentage of mana, and the spellbook shows every spell available at some point in the game. Cataclysm spells can be earned by purchasing them in the Colleges of Magic mechanic and targeting an army with a Battle Wizard of the corresponding lore. Spellpower will disappear from non-weapon items but will still be a stat in the character chart.

Cataclysm has very low player numbers due to its paywall-locked nature through the Winds of Magic DLC. Cataclysm Magic is a Custom Magic exclusive to Vetex, meaning it cannot be accessed by regular players or is canon to the Lore.

Is Cataclysm easy?

In December 2014, Ggb0y uploaded a fourth preview of the Extreme Demon named Cataclysm on YouTube, which was considered the hardest level in the game up to that point. The level was widely considered humanly impossible for a time, and players like ZorroZ Zet and Lyra Bandicoot claimed to beat it legitimately with video footage but later confessed to hacking the level after suspicion aroused by various game effects bugs visible in the replays.

Cataclysm was widely considered humanly impossible for a time. South Korean player Cyclic was thought to have completed it legitimately with his stream on 28 April 2015, but he later purported his hacking alongside all his major achievements. After Cyclic’s confession, Colombian player Giron became known as the first person to legitimately beat Cataclysm on 14 May 2015. Two other players named Sandstorm and Riot beat Cataclysm within the same day, and Powerbomb became the fourth victor on 10 July, and Creepy Dash became the fifth on 25 July.

Completions of Cataclysm began to snowball, and with the release of Bloodbath on 12 August 2015, Cataclysm was officially displaced from the position of the hardest verified Demon. A year later, in Update 2. 0, Ggb0y updated Cataclysm, with buffs to the ship segments, the addition of an “extra death” and three user coins in the level. Riot verified the update legitimately on stream on 15 January 2016. This version became known as New Cataclysm and is considered somewhat harder than Old Cataclysm.

Cataclysm went on to become one of the most influential and popular levels in Geometry Dash, revolutionizing the difficulty precedent for what would become known as Extreme Demon levels after previous more difficult but illegitimately verified levels like Silent Club and the Hell Series. Cataclysm inspired other future levels such as Bloodbath, aftermath, and many more. As of Update 2. 1, Cataclysm is now considered one of the easiest Extreme Demon levels in the game, often said to be the ideal beginner Extreme Demon alongside Acu.

The gameplay of Cataclysm includes a fairly easy half-speed cube section, a difficult double-speed wave segment, an auto segment, a difficult triple-speed ship segment, a ball section, a double-speed UFO segment, a single-speed ship segment, a tight half-speed wave segment, a short and easy robot section, and a final ship segment with the well-known area that says “GBOY” and the creator’s name, “U NEED TO REST.”.

There is a hall of fame of players who finished the level legitimately before the update, along with a message from Ggb0y admitting to hacking it, an apology, and thanking Riot for verifying the level and adding coins.

When did wow level squish?

The stat squish, also known as the item squish, is a series of changes that have significantly scaled down numbers within the game. The first squish was implemented in Patch 6. 0. 2, and the latest squish, a level and stat squish, occurred in Patch 9. 0. 1. The squish is often used to encompass three related changes, which in combination acted to drastically alter numbers in the game.

Items from level 60 through Mists of Pandaria dungeon gear were changed to use a linear scale, resulting in a lower amount of stats on items. This directly affected player stats, so creature stats were reduced to compensate. Player health was doubled to make damage and healing less “spiky”, base damage from spells and abilities was removed, and players were changed to deal bonus damage against lower-level creatures from past expansions and to take reduced damage from them.

How do you get Cataclysm?

The game will be available on DVD-ROM for PC and Mac for $40, with a downloadable version also available. A Cataclysm collector’s edition will cost $80. When did WoW get rid of spell ranks?

The fourth patch. 0. 1. The removal of downranking from the game permits spells to be scaled with character level, necessitating only a single learning process. In addition to the aforementioned voluntary downranking, the level of a character is reduced when a buff spell is cast, resulting in a downranked version of the buff. It is evident that downranking still possesses utility in specific scenarios.

  • prot pallys will definately be highly looked after due to the utility and the raidwide mitigation. also a pro tip for all the blood dks in cata: keep your hands onto your sindragosa trinket. paired with the res trinket from tol barad you can cheese baloroc in firelands and tank him solo which is only possible for blood dks and only with those 2 trinkets.

  • Cata’s difficulty and RBGs killed so many guilds. I loved it. I even farmed the stupid mounts in tol barad. The only lastingly bad idea in cata was lfr right at the end. It was a cool expansion and I actually have more max level fond memories than from wotlk or tbc. It was the start of the decline only from a trendsetting viewpoint with modernisation.

  • writing this before perusal the vid. i noticed a lot of people started leveling an arms warri on my server… this is also one of the two classes that usually show up when you google something like “what is the best dps class in cata”… its gonna be a hard awakening for a lot of people once they realise its not as easy as playing an hunter lmao

  • I‘m finally convinced, the wow Classic Community is the worst, most pathetic, most childish gaming community I have ever seen. It just can’t get into my head, why people bother so much about ruining other people’s experiences and having the audacity to tell people who are excited why they shouldn’t be excited and why they are wrong in the first place if they had fun with game. I mean how much of a man child you have to be to invest your time into telling people why they shouldn’t have fun with something and why it’s wrong they are excited. At this point, I believe the re release of Classic was a mistake, releasing all those private server players back into the wow community was just the worst what could happen to the community

  • Keep in mind; most players will likely end up doing 10s instead of 25s, due to them sharing the same lockout and dropping the same gear. In 10 main raids, you only get ONE battle rez per fight. The biggest things you want to have covered are lust (shaman or mage) and something with a battle rez (druid, DK, or Warlock). As for the 3% damage buff, Ret is the best to fill that… your Mages will want to go fire by at least the 2nd tier, and BM Hunters don’t deal nearly as much damage as SV. Ret also comes with a TON of advantages, from auras and buffs to insanely powerful CDs such Hand of Sacrifice and Lay on Hands. These CDs can and will save you from wipes, and with only a single b rez in 10s it becomes even more valuable to do so. They do fantastic damage from start to finish and cover so many buffs they are hard to pass up. SV Hunter is also another must pick IMO, simply because they can cover almost any buff your raid is missing via their pet choice. They have an interesting toolkit that makes them ideal to handle any odd jobs that a fight might present, and their excellent damage is now even LESS impacted by movement. This is a really good xpac for Hunters with nice quality of life changes and being incredible in both PvE and PvP. Ele is another spec that is hard to pass up simply with how much they bring to the table. They cover lust, the 5% crit buff, the 5% spell haste (only covered by three specs), 10% spell power buff (Demo is the ONLY other spec to provide this), and the armor buff that is only provided by the shaman totem and Devo Aura.

  • Great article! Love the content. I just want to put this out there. While there is a meta to the game and some classes do bring more to the table than other. What WoW needs the most is people willing to lean the mechanics and be able to be an effective raid lead, and organizer. Everything else falls apart without the one or more people putting these groups together.

  • Gave your website a break for a few months but it was good to be back to give the cata stuff a peek – my serious playing days ended with the end of wrath back in the day so I’m cautiously optimistic about this (pally main as well this time around so it’s gonna be a new world with holy power), great coverage as usual!

  • Hi WillE, i’m new at WoW, i started playing late Wotlk because of the influence of my grandson. I’m 64y old and my sight it’s not what it used to be and i liked the UI you show at the minute 20:39. Can i ask you how did you got it or where can i find it. The display is very good and i think it should work for me. I got addicted on thhe game i and i like to keep up with the other players. Thank you for your attention and understanding.

  • 19:53 doesn’t look like UH DK boosts shadow priest’s disease damage any longer in cata. The tooltip says ‘increases damage taken from YOUR diseases by 30%”. I assume that’s deliberate wording. And as a shadow main I’d be glad about it too if we’re not dependent on having an UH DK in the raid anymore.

  • My pre-cataclysm checklist (these items will no longer be attainable): 1 – Darton’s Rod of Transformation (Alliance only toy) 2 – Light of Elune (Alliance only good luck charm) 3 – Linken’s Boomerang (trinket that surprisingly never got nerfed for targets over lvl 60) 4 – ZG mounts 5 – Dungeon set 1 & 2 (for transmog fashion) 6 – Skull of impending doom (gimmick offhand that lets you sprint) 7 – Nifty Stopwatch (sprint trinket but has long cooldown)

  • I can with a 100% guarantee sayt that Holy will outheal Disc on EVERY figh that doesnt have a dmg amplification (Halfus wyrmbreaker for example). Disc will only be used for PI + Barrier on fights like Chimearon, Halfus, Nefarian, Ragnaros etc You coud obv run Holy + Disc on on some fights but Holy Priest on medium high dmg fights with lots of predictable sustained dmg periods like Magmaw, Omnotron, Spine of Deathwing, Madness of Deathwing, Ultraxion, Al’akir, Maloriak. For classic depending on how they tune raids and the lenght of average fights, on shorter fights u prob wont use a priest at all or just 1 disc and a few paladins. Paladins is by far the best healers on fights where they can chain their OP CDs back to back, HolyP or Rdruid on sustained fighs (Divine Hymn usage will decide Hpriests OPness as its the most broken healing CD there is for raw troughput)

  • we need to get blizz to remove inquisition frm ret and just buff its passive damage to compensate. absolute dogshit maintenance buff nobody asked for. “hey guys were making you use combo points now and for 3 combo points you have this insane new single target nuke that you love to use but every now and then you have to instead not use it and refresh this fucking stupid buff lol”

  • I do not know why so many peoples hate on Cataclysm because there are a lot of fun classes/specs to try out while there is also so much stuff to do especially PvE wise so i do not know about others but i will definitely have a blast playing this version of the game. The fact that we will have the beta/gamme catch up mechanic for 5mans will also make it so much more fun for alts.

  • I loved playing Enhancement Shaman from naxx to rs, but by ICC the massive DPS fall off due to mediocre scaling, as well as being less relevant than Elemental Shamans truly made me reconsider what I want for Cataclysm. I’ll probably still do the first tier as Shaman but I already have plans to go for Fire Mage and some sort of Hunter lmao. Those seem to be always busted and stackable as hell.

  • To be honnest I really enjoy SOD for the moment and I didn’t thought of playing cata because I never did this expension. But after seeing that article maybe I’ll think about it and make a warrior with a cool 2x2H because me too I love to play seeing my badass armor and weapons when I beat the shit out of my ennemies ! Can I start level a character on any wrath server to prepare for cata ? Ty for the article Rascar

  • One thing to mention about demo lock is that, yeah it can do top DPS but from experience on Apollo wow cataclysm private server, it’s typically considered one of the most difficult specs to play and min max rotation wise. You have to do alot of pet management and you have alot of CD’s to pop at the right time and your meta is not on a fixed CD and will naturally not align with your demonsoul or trinket CDs after the first cast, making it pretty tricky. It also requires a pre-pull mastery item set u use to pop meta and swap back to normal gear just before the pull.

  • just a quick note that I’m surprised wasn’t mentioned, fire mage has god tier burst aoe dmg. When you pop a phatt combustion you can spread it to other targets with your fire blast proc. There are a few fights that make your dps sky rocket higher than Mike Tyson on a handful of shruuumz. not always the easiest to time, but it’s one of those little things.

  • TL;DR you want a resto druid, resto druid and holy pally are flavor of the month in cata. Mained a holy priest in cata, regen was really bad compared to the other healers I played. Chakra strips you of versatility and you make the other healers OOM more because you can barely help on the tank without OOMing. You still have a niche – prayer on spread out ranged – but arguably resto druids do it better and their lifebloom on the tank is much more help than you can provide. Holy might be a mess but Disc is still very solid, being the only disc priest in a 25 is an absolute treat to play.

  • Really wish they’d make at least a couple servers for each era and let you move from an older to a newer if/when you want to. ie you create a toon on a TBC server, level with TBC rules, maybe do some end game. stick around a couple months then go to a LK server. Level up, do stuff, maybe never leave the LK server if you don’t want. hell, offer paid “copies” where you can copy to a newer ruleset but don’t lose your guy on the older server either. I’d pay for that

  • I’m gonna play cata again Mainly because the first time after I got to max level on my main I quit and I started playing other games like Eve online So I didn’t actually play until the last patch of the expansion Except for like a week and a half at the very start. But if it’s anything like Wrath classic then it’s gonna fail cause there’s really not much going on right now, Probably the most boring classic experience in the game right now is Wrath classic.

  • let’s be honest here, if they wont change any class. Will be only 1 tank: BDK Warrior got nerfed really hard on 4.3, he had almost no mitigation for magic damage, pala prot do not existe cuz u MUST have a retribution for 3% there are classes with only 1 role and spec, Warriors are only dps arms, hunter and mage the same, Survival and Fire every healer is on a good state and the best and fun classes are lock and rogue, every spec is viable in some way

  • Cata aint shit. Its just completely other gameplay. Its not so easy anymore. If its that you complaining about then just dont play it. You had your wrath. I played through all expansions and yes cata changed alot. I haven touched shop ever through all thede years so i dont feel how was it bad at all. I like difficulty increase. You win something thats harder you sre morw happy. I see it that way. You cant handle difficulty you feel bad. It doesnt mean expsnsion is bad. And please…. stop spreading out how bad it is. Peaople read it. Know nothing about it and just spread out same opinion and make others less likely to try it. Whats the point of your moaning people. Nothing good

  • I haven’t played wow in a while. Back in the day I stopped playing at the end of wrath. Considering coming back to experience cata but perusal your vid it seems like everything is really complicated for someone who has not experienced wow ima while. Dunno if it will be fun or a stressful time getting yelled at by groups.

  • I forgot how much I hated this FOTM thing where – apparently – you basically need to reroll every expansion, and for some reason a large part of people think it’s great (or needed?) to bring specs and clases instead of people to raids, handling people as being completely replaceable and without value. I think this was the main reason I quit the game after Cataclysm.

  • They better off making a entire new world of warcraft with classic mindset of community world building. All these expensions only add items and random selected stories with here and there some new gameplay mechanics, and that is fine to a certain point. But what made early wow special was the Journey. Not the lvling. Make a modern wow where social interaction is a key element again instead of sweaty item value grind. A more player driven economy with interactive professions where you are in control of item quality. Get rid of global auction house and make them only local to encourage to be a traveling merchant. Either small scale solo Merchant or make or join a trader guild doing massive shipments. Remove dungeon finder. If you want to do dungeons go interact with the community like back in the day and build a name for yourself. I like flying but current wow map design is not build for it. Maby make it guild focussed. Where flying stables are only for guilds with resources. Guilds can be taxi’s for regular folks. Just a random brainfart. Make open world pvp viable again. Let players lay siege to main cities if succesfull with immense rewards and perks for entire alliance or horde. It’s a once a year activity to gather resources for the siege. Make it political where players/guilds can actually obtain a seat of power to dictate resources and discuss with enemy councel about ownership of zones and strongholds and war declarations. I can keep going 😂

  • I’m very excited for all the changes for Cata. It seems like, how you said, with Cata being less solved, we’re going to likely see more exciting pop-offs. Who knows, maybe someone will finally discover that the Rockbiter Weapon change allows Shaman Tank to be a real thing. We saw a few discoveries during Wrath of all things, so maybe we’ll see something new and exciting in Cata.

  • Funny everyone putting down Prot war again like they did at the beginning of wrath. By the end of wrath Prot war has preformed consistently well and did very well on some of the changes such as the algalon damage buff. Very strong CD’s + great mobility and being a shield tank it did very well. We will see if cataclysm can keep em down because it sure did not in Wrath.

  • Resto Shamans will also bring Healing Tide Totem, which you forgot to mention. So Shamans get 2 new Raid CDs, and a busted group healing spell. And their mastery is the strongest out of any healer for progression raiding. They are the best healer all around with the strongest raid CD, Spirit Link Totem, available to them as well.

  • People will think it’s a meme spec but if you gear yourself properly and know how to use your procs effectively Frost Mages scale just as well as Fire does, it just requires much more effort in the rotation to pull it off. It’s super worth it if you like a more challenging rotation than the 1,1,1,2 rotation that fire and arcane provide.

  • From what I remember every class had some degree of demand – just some more then others. Rogues and Mages will never be lacking demand – they were both heavily stacked due to how well they scaled and could mitigate or ignore certain mechanics. Hunters were in demand, but you had to be a good player to get a reliable spot since they did a lot of mechanics vital to smooth raid clears. Warriors weren’t in high demand but were solid enough to get one or two slots per raid (just not as tanks, sadly – except on Spine, where they were incredible). Paladins were in their usual high demand due to all their buffs, great tanking and healing and decent support DPS (though they never saw the heights of OG Wrath). Shaman were very solid, but you only need a few for totem buffs and top tier raid healing.

  • I would realy appreciate Blizzard balancing some Classes, buff Arms Warrior in PvP, give him mabey 1 more Defensive Abilitie.. Just Buff Deff Stance lower the Shield Wall Cd and Self Reg Cooldown. buff his Dps a little and give him 1 more Gap Closer. Also nerf Rogues a little bit when it comes to Cheap Death, when hes on 5% Hp it proccs and he takes 80% less Dmg for few Seconds and you cant kill him no matter what you do .. Next Thing nerf mabey Warlock with Earth Shield and Resto Shamans, there way to Tanky you can barly kill them. Your normal Hits who do for Example 20k, do on a Warlock with 20% Pet Buff and Earth Shield 9-11k its a insane Dmg Reduction and on Shamans its actually the same with Earth Shield.. You dont do any Dmg on em.. Then nerf Feral Druids when there in Bear Form and lower there Bleed Dmg or overall Dmg a little, it doesnt need to be a insane amount but tune it down a little bit btw all im talking about is PVP-Arena i cant speak for Pve never realy played that Content im a Arena Player and those Things are huge Game Breakers and where huge Problems back then.. For Example a Feral Druid could sitt on 10% Hp with a Disc Priest run around and not Die while a Ret/Hunt fully burst him or a Arms/Hunt or what ever and he just wouldnt Die. Same with Blood Dks there Armor/Resilience is so insane as a Warrior you do zero Damage on them. they can Heal themself to 100% and you hit em for 8-9k with 3 Stacks Slaughter its realy crazy idk its just Stuff i know was a huge Problem back in the Day and made People Quit made People Rage in Arena and throw away the Game and delete there Characters because it was highly unbalanced in certain Situations and for certain Classes.

  • still cant decide whether i should play it or not, been playing cata private servers since i was 9 and had like 2.5k 2s when i was 12. one side of me feels like it would be fun because so many people are playing but other side of me feels like its kinda pointless since all the servers ive played end in quitting one day because its boring :/

  • really good article, but after perusal it i ve completely lost interest in cata classic…why do they always bring post nerf content and latest patch talents, makes the game much more easier…they should do 1 month pre nerf then post nerf so that ppl can have a challenge and can witness the times, were heroic dungeons were truly heroic and were hc raids were really spicey, especially ragnaros 25 hc.

  • #1 just buy a tabby and grind dungeons to get gear. You’re going to have to do alot of dungeons anyway because some people keep ninjalooting anything they can get their hands on. #2 Certain servers (europe) are filled with third world country ninjalooters. That goes for france. Germany. Any eastblock country. They exist to wipe your raid and steal your items. #3 There’s no more team cohesion. LFD finder has ruined any reason to care about your reputation. Yes, your name. Your guild. You think you can just ninja loot shit without any reprecutions. And you can. Aslong as you never open up who you are in real life. Because the world’s a realy small place. And you’re on an excel sheet. #4 Wotlk and the previous expansions that forced you to work with people you might not like nor want to see ever again had a sword of damocles hanging above every single party member. Because cata’s LFD and culture shift has removed this burden of your head it’s going to be very hard to get into pre-raid bis gear. Dps roll for tank items. Tanks ninjaloot dps gear. Mages ninjaloot spirit gear and so on. #5 Europe has a problem. And that’s we have way to many languages to speak. You’re going to get removed from groups without any warning because the french will speak french. The spanish will speak spanish and the germans will speak arabic. If you’re not there to boost sub humans they’ll just remove you. They’ll remove you right before a boss just to fuck with you. #6 Blizzard doesn’t give 2 flying fucks about cata.

  • Watching this i realize more details on why did cataclysm kill wow for me It feels like some content+ private server 😅 Underwayer level that should have been cancelled, ugly new models, no lore stoned cat people, unpleasantly slow class gameplay… this one definately is modern wow The call of duty goblin quest chain… i remember it to this day, it felt weird

  • Thank you, love the article! Would you ever consider doing a article of “What You’ve Missed If You’re Returning To Cataclysm Classic”? So say if you stopped playing at the end of Classic Classic, or at the start or end of TBC, you could go through each one expansion or phase and do a recap for returning players. Everything that happened in each expansion TBC, Wrath, Cata such as a general overview of the storyline in each, what end game raids there were, what the big new features were in that expansion, what the main areas/cities were. As a returning player to Cata Classic who hasn’t played since Classic Classic I feel so lost after missing out on TBC, Wrath and the start of Cata, so a article like that would be super helpful to get back up to date.

  • I think a lot of people don’t know what “pre-nerf” and “post-nerf” means for Heroics. Most of the original 4.0.6 – 4.1 dungeon changes were minor bug-fixes and tuning to boss mechanics. The heroics feel easier today because it’s not 2011 anymore. If you ignore most boss mechanics, you will still wipe your group.

  • i wish i knew before that pvp arena still hardcore suxx u go oom as caster dd and ppl just running away for 40+mins and trying to drink thats peak shit gameplay and i alt f4 during my 3. arena game. i boosted 2 chars to 80 and bought gold so would safed me over 180€ knewing before pvp is shit here too
