How to use tarot cards for mental health?

Tarot and oracle cards are powerful tools for gaining insight and reflection into one’s mental state. The value of tarot work lies in personal insights gained during the process, rather than focusing on the card meanings. Focusing on feelings rather than book meanings can lead to more self-awareness and a change in how we view ourselves, others, and life. Tarot reminds us that we are co-creators in our lives, not passive participants. It is essential to resist the urge to fly on autopilot and challenge ourselves to be conscious. It is important to recognize that we are powerful and need to be aware of this.

To get a snapshot of mental health, use three card spreads: Subconscious/Conscious/Superconscious (soul level). These spreads help you understand your mental health and help you navigate the changes in your life. Remember, you are powerful and should not give up on your power.

Is tarot a form of therapy?

Tarot cards may not be a viable alternative for those seeking therapy for specific mental illness and trauma due to lack of research into their therapeutic potential. While they offer self-reflection and new perspectives, they lack the scientific foundation, professional guidance, and empirical evidence to be considered an alternative to therapy. Additionally, many Tarot readers lack qualifications or training, leaving more room for malpractice and potential bias.

As a self-taught Tarot reader, some people bring up emotions and issues that might require a more traditional medical approach, such as a clinical psychologist. Instead, they offer a community-based warm space to air out emotions, rather than diagnosing or providing medication.

Is it good to read your own tarot cards?

Tarot readings can be done by beginners, providing insight into current situations, honoring intuition, and forecasting potential outcomes. To begin, clean the energy of your space by burning herbs, ringing bells or chimes, taking a bath, or using crystals. A Selenite wand is a popular energy refresher that aids clarity.

Sit comfortably and close your eyes, focusing on the protective energy surrounding you. Take deep breaths, think about your question or needing guidance, and keep your mind and heart open to the answers that may come through the cards. Shuffle the deck, focusing on your desired query, and shuffle the cards in front of you. The pattern laid out is called a “spread”, and the meaning of each card in combinations builds up to the overall answer to your query.

Before beginning to shuffle, know which spread you will be working with. As answers come through, it’s important to draw additional cards for further clarity or start with a new question from a different perspective. Tarot readings can be a powerful tool for personal growth and understanding.

  • I view Tarot as a way of directly communicating with my angel. It’s like having a meeting every morning where my angel/spirit animal gives me a heads up of what’s to come. Put in a less woowoo way, we always project our inner ongoings outward, so the cards are great prompts to feel how we truly are. Taking the time every day to sit with yourself and explore your feelings does miracles for your mental health. Thank you so much for your guidance ❤️

  • I would like to share my way to overcome anxiety, in case this could help. I had it for many years, at least 12 of them was really bad. No technique, medicine, psychologyst worked. But diet and one single enema did, and in one and a half months. This was a program to cleanse the liver (from Melissa Ramos), which in the end is very similar to a very healthy keto, and around the month and a half, one water enema (is part of the program). And no gluten or dairy in my case. With the diet i felt already a big difference, but i could feel some remaining current inside. With the enema i felt peace after so many years.

  • Hey Madelaine. If I didn’t know better I’d swear in a court of law that you just watched the last hour of my life and decided to put up a post about mental health and share your experiences. I dont know if you know anything about Astrology but I just realised the full implications of having Uranus, Pluto and Mars in my tenth house in Virgo. I had read about it a few months ago and I thought then that it was a bit of a crazy hand to get dealt the minute you were born but I didnt think any more about it. Yesterday I started reading about the effect of retrograde planets in your chart, noting that Saturn was retrograde in my 3rd house in Aquarius. This morning I pulled the King of Swords in reverse, 4 of wands and the Tower and then out of nowhere my childhood and subsequent 57 years all made sense. I felt as if I had been run over. Thank you so much for using your voice and your platform and your time to do so much good. With all my heart and thanks again xxxxxx
