The Magic Chef MCSCWD27W5 washing machine is not turning on due to various issues. To fix this, ensure that the machine is properly plugged into a functioning electrical outlet and that the power cord is securely connected. Pour warm water into the washing drum and wait for 10 minutes before reconnecting the inlet pipe to the tap. When the washing machine is reused, make sure the inlet and outlet are working normally.
To troubleshoot common issues with the Magic Chef Washer Dryer Combo, follow these steps:
- Unplug the machine, close the water tap, remove the water hose, and tilt the machine at least 45 degrees backward.
- Inspect all wiring visually for any short wires or connections.
- Turn off the drain when pouring water in the machine.
- Check the pause feature by closing the lid, redistributing the load, turning off the washer and unplugging it, then plugging it back in and restarting.
- If all breakers are in the “On” position, there may be another incoming power issue.
In summary, if you’re experiencing issues with your Magic Chef Washer, follow these steps to fix common issues and get your machine back to normal. Additionally, check the pause feature by closing the lid, redistributing the load, turning off the washer and unplugging it, and plugging it back in.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!! My sister, who lives 90 mi from me, called and said her clothes were soaked, water still in washer. She did not need this issue since her husband passed a week ago and she now lives by herself. After perusal 5 articles concerning this problem, I was ready to take a 2 hr drive, remove the enclosure from the washer and remove the obstical from her pump. UNTIL, perusal your article. I called her, she did what I said, washer working great. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
My nephew and I just spent 3 hours of our lives we will never get back. The level of frustration we both experienced is unimaginable. I was looking at buying a new washer online when somehow, by some divine intervention, your article showed up. I tried this. IT FREAKIN WORKED! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this article.
We have these washers at the apartment complex where I do maintenance work. Your article is going to make me look like an appliance repair genius to the Property Manager one of these days. I’ve already put into use lots of knowledge you’ve shared, when performing HVAC work orders. I’m sure you have been told this a zillion times, but I want to say it again, You are a gifted teacher! Thank you very much and Best Wishes to You and Yours!
After perusal 20 other articles and troubleshooting everything I could think of, I was ready to give up and buy another washer. I figured it was the electronic control, but could find no schematic or troubleshooting info. I searched one last time and found your article. It worked! It’s been a rough weekend. My water heater circuit board blew yesterday and I spent the day replacing the heater. You saved me a lot of time, money and aggravation. Thank you!
I thought you were being funny too. The thing quit. On a dice roll, I tried it on a feisty ten year old kenmore 400 with parts I replaced earlier. A watery putrid experience I dreaded going through again. I was about to go after the pricey cycle selector and/or the fuse until I just tried this expecting nothing. It worked. Im listening to the washer right now going through its paces. No repairman in the history of repairmen has ever shared this. They will say its a big job and then when you’re not looking, they will reset it and charge you. You kicked over a serious cow sharing this. Thank You in public.
One more to report this fix worked with deep thanks to Word of Advice TV! Had my washer completely apart – spent an entire afternoon fighting with it. Thought the lid switch was the cause but the problem came back after running a load of bathroom towels – deducted it was too heavy a load and the unbalanced load shut off was happening. Found very little online about this problem and was lost. Had no idea how to reset the washer until I saw this article. Saved me another afternoon looking for a mechanical problem that was electronic. Knowledge is power.
This worked for us! I laundered heavy duty items causing an uneven load and the next set of wash was sopping wet when I went to put the clothes in the dryer. We tried lots of things and were about to give up and face a repair bill or buy a new machine. My husband found this article and like magic, we’re back in business! Thank you!
Had this same problem on our brand new washer, several times. I was ready to return it. My husband did a once over on it, including the two different reset options. Come to find out, the outlet hose connected on the bottom back of machine was crimped/pinched. Bought a new hose and it’s worked perfect ever since! Hope this helps others avoid the aggravation.
I had the repair guy here (with DECADES of experience…) and he told me I needed a new timer. He was going to order it and make a second trip out to my house (30+miles) to install it. I found this amazing article and it worked like a charm! Saved me around $250 at least. It happens when my washer spins an unbalanced load. THANK YOU!!! PS I cannot believe the repair guy didn’t know this!
I just want to say thank you! We are preparing for a trip and of course today if all days it stops working. I’m so glad I can across your article and you showed me the trick. It worked instantly. You saved me from calling a repair person, on a weekend, last minute and spending a ton of money. My family says thank you! ☺️
Your advice worked like a charm. My Amana washing machine was beyond warranty when it stopped working. I was so disheartened and contemplated taking it to a professional repair shop and paying through the nose for the privilege. I watched your article, followed the instructions and it’s back up and running like nothing ever happened. THANK you! Jim
I also have a GE washing machine and I just washed them this article, completed all the steps you said to do. My washer has not been spinning the entire week mind you. I followed the steps and to my surprise, my washer is happily spinning once again! Thank you so much for saving me a lot of money!!! You are awesome! Today’s date is December 20, 2019 and you are my appliance hero
I have to tell you this is the quickest fix ever. If you have a husband like mine who forgets things in his pockets and has to unplug machine ( which completely throws it into a messed up mode) it will not run. Follow his instructions b4 doing all the diagnostic stuff and wasting LOTS of your time. Good luck
Thank you, your help is so appreciated. Yes three days ago we had our electricity off for a few hours. Had no clue I had to reset my washer, but electricity company could have advised of this, you would think,or do they get a commission from retailers each time??!! Last time it happened I purchased a new machine and they took my almost new machine away??? You learn so much on you tube 🤑😃😳👏🙏
Omg!!!! You are amazing! I been agonizing over my kenmore washer for 3 days. I watched your article about simply unplug machine and then replugvand lift and close lid 6 times. IT WORKED!! My washer was going through all the cycles but it was only agitating for about 1 minute during each wash and rinse cycle. But this simple process ofvopen and close lid worked. My washer is preforming as normal now. Thank you so much! I can cancel my repair call, that was going to cost about $125 just for them to knock on my door, then parts and labor also.
You are literally saving others with this article! Thank you so much! It worked on my elderly whirlpool. I am so grateful to have found your article. Thank you for sharing and caring lol If I ever become wealthy, I am going back to my saved articles and sending you a huge check. So serious ! lol Thank you so much!
Haha awesome, just did this for my Kenmore and it worked, after thinking I had to tear it down I looked up a article about the spin cycle not working, one guy talked about trying it on other speeds or duty cycles, tried it on heavy rather than normal, the spin worked, then found your article, did the reset procedure and yippy! Everything is good again, thanks man!
You were sent from heaven! My agitator stopped working and I just knew I was probably going to have to shell out $500 for someone to fix it. All other articles were take it apart and fix it yourself. I came across yours and thought no way, but tried it anyway. IT WORKED!!! Please give me an address or something where I can send you something to show my appreciation. God bless you!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I searched for help with this problem and at first watched another article of my Same Washer, with the Same humming symptom and no agitation. They would have had me troubleshooting and repairing/replacing the motor. Now instead I’m washing the clothes and won’t need to shopvac all the water out of the machine and find another place to do laundry while I spend hundreds of dollars I don’t have. THANK YOU AGAIN!!
Thank you so much! Changed the washer lid cuz it rusted. That was easy part. Then the washer didn’t work…never even noticed the magnet. Took the magnet from the old lid and installed it in the new lid. Plugged the washer back in, opened the lid six times and it worked!!! Super psyched!! Thanks again!
WOW! Can’t believe it worked! Mine was a GE Washer gtw330ask0ww, it’s got all kinds of error code checking etc. that is very complicated. I tried this reset method and it worked! Men, tell your women/kids you cannot fill these washers with huge blankets etc. My fiancé caused the washer to fail by loading up a massive blanket and then even after I got lucky and got the washer up and running again she says “great now I finish this blanket” NO!!! Go do them at a laundromat. I pulled that blanket out, it was about 70lbs soaked with water. The parts on washers will fail if you keep doing massive loads. I’m lucky this fix worked, it could have been much worse. Tell them to not be lazy and drive down to laundromat other wise we men have to spend money for no reason fixing broken washers because of laziness.
God bless you sir! You really saved my bacon. Yes this worked! My washer worked fine the last time I used it. When I went to wash clothes this week — nothing. No lights. No response from the controls. I turned it off at the breaker, let it sit for a while, then turned it back on. The yellow “sensing” light was on and blinking, otherwise still nothing. Later, I found this article and am now up and running. If you use YT the way I do, you’ll want to know this about my washer: 2019 Maytag “Commercial Technology” high efficiency top loader, Model MVWC565FW1 (5 knobs across the panel, looks like the Centennial Series, probably an analog of some Whirlpool model as well)
WoW!!! Brilliant article. I did all sorts of troubleshooting and nothing worked. Fortunately, I came across this article. I did exactly what you demonstrated and now my Whirlpool is working. I could not believe it was so easy to reset such error code. Sir, please keep on making good articles. Stay safe. Respect and blessings.
After replacing the Lid Switch (because the washer wasn’t draining), all of a sudden the agitator wasn’t working and the machine wasn’t spinning. I thought: “For crying out loud – WHAT NOW?” Your solution may seem to some of us to be too simple to have any chance of working. But it certainly DOES work! If only everything else had such a simple solution!
Thank you for taking your valuable time by making and sharing this highly informative article. I have been told to replace the motor etc. I tried your motor rest and it worked perfectly. One question….. When spinning the machine is producing a very loud noise. Could this be the bush attached to the drum or can you advise me. Thank you one again.
My washer was overfilling about 4 inches above the clothes which lead to UL code constantly. This totally helped. Another suggestion someone said was to run an Affresh cleaning cycle (Bravos 300) which would start and change from an hour to 4 minutes shortly after beginning. Both are working perfectly now. Thank you very much.
I was starting a load of laundry with lid up and forgot to put lid down. Was making a strange sound, it was trying to agitate but since kid was down it wasn’t working. I tried everything, the 3 second button to turn it off, unplugged and replugged trying to reset it, nothing was working. I unplugged it and found your instructions. Was so stressed that I broke it and might have to call for service. Your solution seemed funny but I tried it and it worked perfectly!!!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!!!
Wow it really does work! I own a Whirlpool top load washer, it’s a pretty basic model, and this little tip did just the trick! Here I was thinking I wouldn’t have any clean clothes for work in a couple of hours but now I have a washing machine that is running top notch again. I do think an unbalanced load is what caused mine as well seeing as I washed a comforter and sheets in my last load. I can’t tell you how many washers we have thrown out and replaced over this same exact issue.. no more though! Thanks so much! 😄
Many, many thanks… for your article, it was exactly what I needed, when Sears recommended to replace a part, I can’t thank you enough for saving me the cost of a part or having a repair bill. I would highly recommend that anyone with a problem with your spin cycle try this easy fix. I have a Kenmore washer, so it doesn’t just work on G.E. washers. You will be saving a lot of people an un-needed expense. Thanks again, now I can rest at ease that I don’t have to worry about trips to the laundromat.
This worked!! I just bought a new washer last year and Sunday I went to do laundry and my washer would start to fill, then stop. It wouldn’t spin when draining and would just stop. I didn’t even think of resetting it, I was getting ready to call for repair when I googled the symptoms and “reset washer” kept popping up. Thank god this article popped and honestly I thought it was crap, but it worked!
Worked like a charm on a 15 year old Kenmore top loader. No lights or anything fancy, just knobs. I just followed the steps not knowing if anything was reset since I have no lights on the machine. But I started the washer and it started to fill like normal! My issue was that only the Handwash setting was working properly. Any other setting would immediately start spinning as the washer was filling. So when it came time for the last spin, it was already set to “off” by then and the clothes were left sopping wet and not fully clean. This was exactly what I needed. I alone take care of my brain damaged and paralyzed mother with ZERO state assistance (thanks to Texas being a red state that hates poor people). So for us to have a broken washing machine would’ve taken 100% donations to get it fixed or replaced. We live paycheck to paycheck and I’m out of work and can barely afford her meds, diapers, etc. We ALL need to share this article and make this guy rich for all the money he’s saved us!!! THANK YOU FOR HELPING YOUR PEOPLE!!!
I wonder if those instructions were included with the manual or did you have to find them online. Seems to me that new appliances and machinery are overly complicated with a lot of unessential functionality that the average consumer would be just as happy without. How is a user to know the reason for the washer not working without calling a service tech to find out? My 35 year old Maytag instructions explain that if the unit stops working during an out-of -balance spin that a simple reset of raising and closing the lid will fix the problem. The unit you demonstrate makes you tap twice, open and close three times, do a circle dance and say the magic word and all within 12 seconds. Miss the time limit and you must repeat. Who is in control here ? You or the washer?
I was wasting this morning and I went to get them out to place them in the dryer and they was totally wet with water… I was like let me see how much money do I have in my account… something told me to YouTube and I found this article it worked the first time trying it thanks for your help and saved me money…
My washing machine didn’t work for over a YEAR, my gut told me it was something simple so I kept it there and tried EVERYthing, then found this article and it was this…wow. I never even knew a washer could be reset, like WHY don’t they tell you this in the manual? or when you call the service number? It makes me wonder how many perfectly good washing machines have been thrown out and replaced because of something as simple as this 🤔😮
Thanks i just fixed my grams washer she blamed it on my 17 year old sister and was going to make my father to pay for something she didn’t even do do i thought i could fix it my self and save the family some money and ur article help me out and i love learning new things thanks u very much have a great day
Thank you sooooo much! Mine must need the balance rod and spring things replaced, and when the motor stopped I thought I killed it. But now there’s hope. Lol. Even though this washer has ripped all my clothes on regular cycle, and I have to use delicate cycle, it will be far better ( and cheaper ) working than No washer! Much appreciated!😊
Thanks. I wish I had found this article sooner for troubles I was having with my GE Profile washer, model WPRE6100G0WT. On mine the drive belt had snapped, and I bought a new one and replaced it. However after I installed the new belt, the motor would not turn at all. After hours of troubleshooting and even looking at new washers, I found that the motor also had to be reset in the same way you mentioned. I think when the belt snapped it triggered a motor fault. With the new belt and a reset motor I am now back in business again. Thanks.
Was worried I might buy a new motor replacement because not only the washer does not spin but motor is totally silent. Got funny feeling to try it. Unplug-wait 2 minutes-plug-open/close six times within 12 seconds. Did not work. Tried again, then it work perfect. Using Kenmore 400 series (they are all internally similar design). Thank you.
Thanks for the explanation. I am going to try. However I would like to get clarification on one aspect though. Couple of years ago I bypassed the wiring so that opening the LID does not stop the motor. Will the recipe suggested here to reset work in that situation. Also it will help to know the different reasons for which a motor could reset and needs that cleared before being used again. Could you list them in the description section.
Okay…so I was desperate enough to try this. It’s the day after Christmas and my Whirlpool Ultimate Care Commercial Grade washer will not spin. No weird noises, no rattles, nothing loose, no burnt smells. I was looking at new washers and was aching about having to possibly spent A Grand just after Christmas for a washer. Needless to say we bought this washer 6 years ago in 2014 from our local Salvation Army for $60 as a refurbished washer. So, I really have already gotten my monies worth out of it..but why get another if I can repair it. We have a full house, my mom and sister live with us and we use I mean USE this washer…it gets WORKED!!! In a last ditch effort I watched this article and tried it, Guess what IT WORKED!!! He’d mentioned that if you have a power outage or power surge it’s not uncommon for your washer to do this. I’m so happy!!! Who do I need to send my was to be $1000 cheque to?! He saved in this article a post Christmas Crunch!!! Thank You!!! Try it it worked for me. My washer is working better than it has in years the laundry is coming out drier than ever it’s like a Brand New Washer!!!! The Results are amazing! My washer must have been declining for a couple of years and I didn’t understand why.
Omg God thank you so much this article literally saved my hide I thought I had broke my in-laws washer machine which one might think isn’t a big deal but yesterday they literally let us borrow 10grand so my wife their daughter could buy a new car and I was freaking out thinking of man I’m going to have to tell them I just busted the washer washing my dirty underwear. Thank you for your time posting this and God bless you and yours
You’re the first one who actually said it was a motor reset, I got it work before but I was very skeptical about it you know two times happening kind of makes you wonder…so I waited for my epitome and you gave it to me …. THE MOTOR needed to be reset and that’s what the up and down with the lid thing was! Awe beautiful thanks and after I did do the same last time but the YouTube article girl also had me turning the dial settling and you did not this a difference, so I’m trying this in the am thanks … part of why I waited so long was some repair man told my old man guy friend a strange thing was that he said if this certian bulb is damp inside it would do a super total malfunction and cost tons mre to fix Not sure I waited a long time until I felt sure someone captured the remedy to my washing machine Amanda high efficiency machine technical issues. I hope this is it. Please let me know if you see this quickly so I won’t make any error in what I’m doing My best to figurework out the issue with these little troubleshooting ideas you’ve provided it makes a little more sense how you explained…thanks
This worked on my GE GTW720B washer. The technician came and install a new motherboard. Did not work. The replacement part did not have a manual or code to reset the machine. He put back the original motherboard. Afterwards, I tried to wash some clothing, it does not work. Does not give water. Tired your 6x lid opening and closing, Gosh darn, it is running. Thank you so much.
Taking nothing away from your advice, which seems to have helped a lot of people, I have to say that the burn marks on the power adaptor when you unplugged the washer scare me. It looks as though the dryer is plugged in there, too? I’m wondering whether that outlet extender is rated for the washer or dryer by themselves, let alone together? 😬😬😬😬😬
That’s crazy cool! But what about a Maytag Bravos MCT? I’ve been trying the different clicks I found on articles but there’s not a article for my particular model. Nonetheless, I’m going to try your method here and see what happens. Couldn’t hurt but would appreciate a message if you know a secret for this model.
