Is Maytag owned by a Chinese company?
The Maytag Corporation, founded in 1893 by Frederick Maytag, is an American home and commercial appliance company that has been owned by Whirlpool Corporation since April 2006. The company was initially known as Maytag Washing Machine Company and later became Maytag, Inc. in 1925. The company’s president was Elmer Henry Maytag, who took over from 1926 until his death in 1940.
During the Great Depression, the company made a profit, but in 1938, Maytag provoked strikes due to a pay cut. The company managed to beat the strike with the help of military companies. After his father’s death in 1940, Fred Maytag II, grandson of the founder, took over the presidency.
During World War II, the company participated in war production by making special components for military equipment. In 1946, production resumed, and in 1949, the first automatic washers were produced in a new, dedicated factory. In 1946, Maytag began marketing a separate line of ranges and refrigerators made by other companies under the Maytag name.
During the 1950s, the ‘white goods’ or laundry and kitchen appliance industry grew rapidly, and Maytag entered the commercial laundry field, manufacturing washers and dryers for commercial self-service laundries and operators. In response, other full-line appliance producers, such as Whirlpool, General Electric, Westinghouse, and Frigidaire, began to compete with Maytag in the white-goods consumer market.
Maytag decided to limit itself to the manufacture of washers and dryers, alongside marketing ovens and refrigerators built by other companies, as a small, premium-brand manufacturer.

📹 MAGIC CHEF 3.0CU FT VS 1.6CU FT PORTABLE WASHER (visual comparison)
Update* 1/30 We received this washer with a loose broken piece. I used it with no issues but contacted walmart in case it causes …
A couple years ago my apartment closed the laundry room. So I started picking up portable washers and testing how they work. Ending up with a Magic Chef 0.9, a Magic Chef 1.6, a Panda 1.38 and finally upgrading to this RCA 3.0 cu ft. I am keeping the Magic Chef 1.6 and the RCA 3.0 as they have the same internal components. The newer models, (Panda and RCA 3.0 cu ft) have the same issue. The normal wash does not fill rinse cycle completely. However the water level is higher from the factory. Other wash cycles work fine. The older models (Magic Chef 0.9 and 1.6) had water levels set low. After I adjusted water levels, (Turn water level sensor 1 full turn clockwise) the washers worked great. My guess is this was done to qualify as a HE-high efficiency washer. Water hookups: Easiest way to hook up to faucet is to get a 3/4 adapter and just screw it on especially if you have a cheap plastic faucet. The quick connect puts a lot of stress on the faucet. Depending on your Faucet GPM it takes a while to fill the washer. I ended up getting a 8 foot dishwasher hookup and installed a split T 3/8″ Y adapter valve at the cold water source under the sink. I just wash with cold water works for me. I was surprised how quickly the washers filled connected straight to the valve. Well worth the cost. RCA 3.0 rinse/spin issue: First thing I noticed was the spin operated differently than smaller washers. Determined this is by design due to the extra centrifugal forces generated with the larger mass that is spinning around.
Thanks for the great article! Do you think the 1.6 is sufficient for two or three people? Also, now that you have had the 1.6 machine for a while, how often, if ever, do you remove and clean the pump’s filter located at the back of the machine? Does that filter get really clogged up? I am thinking of buying this for some apartments I own, but I don’t know that I want the Tenants having to deal with removing/cleaning the pump’s filter. What do you think of the 2.0 versus the 1.6? Does it really hold that much more clothing than the 1.6? How many people do you think the 2.0 is appropriate for? What’s the interior cubic feet of your dryer and does it do a good job drying a FULL load from your 2.0 model? Thanks again!
