  • The comments are rather amusing. Some of you saying this is a “small” washer when this was one of the largest top loaders ever made. People now have smaller families but want gigantic washers, I guess to just throw it all in one load and forget about it . The capacity of this washer would suffice for anyone today. I had one of these but the older style with the lint filter on the agitator. Great washer that cleaned the dirtiest loads.

  • Sold them buy the ton back in the late 80’s. Very high performance for not a lot of money. Built by MayCor aka Maytag in this era. Also built under the Admiral, Maytag Performa, Norge, of course Magic Chief brands. 3/4 hp drive gave them the 20 pound rating and yes wash action that rivals SQ. build quality but not as robust, but certainly one the better machines of this era!

  • I used to sell those Magic Chef and Norge washers with the 3/4 hp motor. They were incredible and when tested by consumer reports, “outwashed all other washers by far ”. They had reliability like the old Maytags too. Unfortunately, this was too much for the competition so they were taken over by another company and were used as a kicker and turned into just average machines. The pulleys were made plastic and after a while the thrust bearings would melt into them. Transmissions were changed too. Sad.

  • I have a Kenmore HE4T Front Load Washer and a Kenmore HE4 Dryer. The dryer almost set on fire though due to the lint getting the cage bypassed. One thing I need to know, is that my washer and dryer are 15 years old! Jesus Christ man! Anyways. Nice review of that washer– (crap! I already said this. Nice and smooth.)

  • I would much rather have this old heavy duty well built machine and do the repairs to bring it back to good working order than pay $$$ for what they sell now – saving water is false economy if you have to replace the machine every two to three years — or run it twice just to get the clothes wet. We have allowed ourselves to let the govt. and Al Gore guilt us into accepting crap washers that don’t do the job right and don’t last even five years. When the time came I bought a Speed Queen, its an awesome washer, fast effective, long life and best warranty in the country.

  • I really like this machine, but wow what is that banging? I do not like the machines they are making today with no agitator. They simply do not get the clothes clean. I hate mine. But I had no choice. Mine came with the house we bought. Needles to say I like the good old fashioned ones that really whip the clothes around. That’s what gets them clean. Where do I purchase this machine please?

  • 1. Why are you using way too much detergent! 2. I don’t get the sense of these washing mashines. They need way too much water because they are rotating vertically, so logically the laundry needs to swim and everything needs to be coated European washing mashines don’t need this much water because they rotate horizonzally. 3. Why is it this so loud?

  • LOL tightie whities in there too. Seriously though, those older washers did a lot better (and in less time) than all the new machines. I have a Samsung front loader that does ok, but still not as good as my old (and cheap) GE top loader. I am on a house with a septic system, so less water use is critical here.
