Netflix’s Magic For Humans is a reality show that follows stage magician Justin Willman as he goes to the streets of Los Angeles to get genuine reactions from passerby about his tricks. The show claims to use “real people, real magic, (and) no camera tricks” to achieve his magic. However, the show uses camera tricks in almost every episode, which some critics find disappointing. Willman does use stooges and camera tricks, but only for specific examples. He explained that the show involved no camera tricks, editing, or CGI, just hard work and rehearsing. The show has been criticized for using fake magic, as the magician claims that he doesn’t use video editing and these are real people. The tagline “real people, real magic, no camera tricks” might be as true as it is true.
