Magic Clips are a new type of sewing clip that can be used for various tasks, including hemming heavy weight fabrics, quilting, and working with thicker materials. They are designed to securely hold multiple layers of fabric together without slippage, making them an ideal alternative to pins. The standard size clips only clip about 1/2″ inside the edge of a project, but they can be removed as you sew on a sewing machine.
Taylor Seville Originals Sewing Magic Clips are a premium choice among the six best sewing clips reviewed. These clips feature durable stainless steel and are designed to ensure precise sewing every time. They can mark 0.25-inch increments and open wide and lay flat for convenience. They also help keep hems straight and crisp, making them suitable for both heming and crafting.
The Taylor Seville Big Magic Clip Large Sewing Clips are also available in a pack with easy-to-read markings for convenience. They are the only sewing clips that can safely go under the sewing machine foot, requiring only 1/8″ of clearance from the needle. Pins hold fabric better than clips, and clips can get in the way of sewing.
In summary, Magic Clips are a versatile and convenient tool for holding multiple layers of fabric together without slippage. They are ideal for hemming heavy weight fabrics, quilting, and working with thicker materials.

Thanks for the tips. I’m glad you gave us the non-sewing machine uses for the clip. When I first used it I had realized I just ran a piece of metal over my feed dogs. That was the deal breaker. Yes it did work without moving but I’m afraid I’d be changing out the feed dogs often if I use these. After my run I took out my 10X loop and the feed dogs were unmarred, but I was not going to continue using them. I don’t return items so since then I used them to hold a fabric that I would go back and pin as it gave me more control and I just use them far back so they don’t run under the foot, but even then I don’t like they running over the plate, so I pull them like I would pull a pin. I will use them on my measuring tools like you show, I can see that being a good use.
Have you compared these to the wonder clips by clover or the mock wonder clips mass produced and sold cheaply? Wondering if one has more grip than the other and if one is more suited to those with less dexterity or finger/hand strength. I will concur with one person in comments, the Taylor Seville brand ones are twice the price of other brands and here in Australia rare to find by local stockists. Close to $40 for cheapest pack of 6 clips. Not sure I love them that much. I loved them when I saw your article, thought you were using wonder clips so went off to find out if they had an extendable section that you had simply not explained how to use, lol. I discovered this was not so and realized there is more than one sewing clip. For now I will make do with folder clips, small silver coloured stationery bull dog clips for my mask making.
These clips are truly awesome! Here’s a few retailers that carry them. If your favorite shop does not have them, ask them to bring them in for you – it’s really easy for them to do and they’d sure appreciate the business! #SupportLocal ~ Ottawa Sewing Centre – Ottawa, Ontario ~ Findlay’s Vacuum & Sewing – Kelowna, BC ~ Shannon’s Fabrics – Nelson, BC
I bought the small ones to use instead of pins in patchwork projects involving ¼” seams. Unfortunately they don’t slide easily under the presser foot and as the grip is very strong, there is considerable distortion along the edge of the two pieces which are being secured. I returned them and was very disappointed. Might be ok for other uses however on thicker fabric…
I just watched your article and I wanted to comment on the products. The seam allowance markings on the Magic Clip was my idea. The idea was taken from me without compensation, and I have sought legal representation against Nick Gupta, owner of Taylor Seville. Mr. Gupta has refused to compensate me for any of my product development ideas that eventually went into production.
