What A Mystic Believer Entails?

A mystic is a person who seeks to awaken, glimpse, and reclaim their innate spiritual Oneness at the core of their being. This involves the pursuit or achievement of personal communion with or joining with God or some other form of the divine. Mystical Theology is an approach to theology and spiritual knowledge that seeks to learn the truth about God and the world primarily through direct spiritual experiences, contemplative prayer, and union with God.

Mysticism is best thought of as a constellation of distinctive practices, discourses, texts, institutions, and traditions aimed at human beings. A mystic is someone who has a direct experience of the sacred, unmediated by conventional religious rituals or intermediaries. Christian mystics believe that the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth are a meaningful guide to spirituality.

Mysticism is a personal, subjective experience of God or spirit, not a religion in itself. A mystic is a believer who practices the presence of God, believing that God can be seen, heard, and felt in one’s being. Mysticism is often thought of as the practice of the experiential knowledge of God, and to be a mystic is to be a seeker of profound spiritual truths and experiences beyond conventional religious or philosophical doctrines.

  • Sorry Filip but at 36:23 you claim that Hesychasts even claimed to receive “the Essence of God”, perhaps there is a small accidental mistake here? The Uncreated Light is one of the types of the Uncreated Energies of God in Eastern Orthodoxy, God’s Ontology is different from the rest of Christianity here (and other religions). God’s Essence is completely unknowable so Hesychasts would never seek to comprehend this as it is the source of God’s being and utterly transcendent.
