What animal helps with autism?
Pet therapy can significantly improve the wellbeing of autistic children, who often face challenges such as speech and language delays and sensory processing disorders. Animals like dogs, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs can provide a calming influence, even lowering blood pressure by 15 minutes. This can be particularly beneficial for autistic foster children who may feel overwhelmed or agitated when entering a new home.
Studies have shown that even stroking an animal for 15 minutes can lower blood pressure by 15 for these children, making pet therapy a valuable tool for their social and emotional development. Therefore, fostering a furry friend can provide a calming and supportive environment for these children.
What is the animal model of autism?
Rodents, particularly mice, are excellent animal models of autism due to their similar social relationships and neuroscience. When exposed to prenatal valproate (VPA) during pregnancy, mice are born with basic deformities and developmental delays, similar to those seen in humans. Researchers often focus on single features of autism when using animal models, such as the Norway rat (Rattus norvegicus), house mouse (Mus musculus), mu opioid receptor knockout mice, and Fmr1 knockout mice, which are also used as animal models of Fragile X syndrome.
The Norway rat has been used by Mady Hornig to implicate thiomersal in autism, but the current scientific consensus is that no convincing evidence supports these claims. Major scientific and medical bodies, such as the Institute of Medicine and WHO, as well as governmental agencies like the FDA and CDC, reject any role for thiomersal in autism or other neurodevelopmental disorders.

Autistic Pride Day, first celebrated in 2005 by Aspies for Freedom, is a global event that celebrates neurodiversity and the pride movement. The rainbow symbol represents the movement, while gold is used by autistic advocates as the chemical symbol for gold is Au. The day is an autistic community event, led by autistic people themselves, and is not a day for other charities or organizations to promote themselves or stifle autistic people. The rainbow infinity symbol represents “diversity with infinite variations and infinite possibilities”.
The purpose of Autistic Pride is to show the world that autistic people are proud of their uniqueness and have the right to live a happy and fulfilled life. Many autistic people suppress or feel ashamed of their behaviors, but Autistic Pride events aim to create a space for autistic people to be themselves and cast any shame aside.

I think a crucial bit of history about this meme is the binding of Isaac mod that inspired a couple other mods using the creature. I think it sat well with the Isaac community because it’s head looks similar to the game’s protagonist, down to the lowly detailed eyes and the theme of simple child drawings.
For anyone curious, the original tbh drawing is based off of the character hifumi izanami from hypnosis mic. The manga (specifically the fp vs mtr volumes) features very iconic chibis of the characters, including hifumi. Go look up some panels and you’ll see the resemblance! As a hypmic fan I feel like it’s my duty to bring up this fact because it’s Really funny to see a once obscure fandom meme to a whole phenomenon LMAO
I’m autistic and this character kinda feels like how I think my autism would look like as a cartoon character. I don’t know how to describe it but something about the expression and how cute but weird it is kinda gives off an autistic vibe to me (my special interests are usually cute cartoons like spongebob or my little pony so that might have something to do with it)
I’m late but a note on the Tumblr side of this meme: it actually escalated much further than mentioned. I don’t remember the people involved, but on one of the posts of fanart of the tbh creature people started adding on their takes of what creations of other acronyms would look like, including but not limited to “ngl”, “lol”, “lmao”, “wtf”, and “rofl” from what I remember. It was actually pretty wholesome to see
I had heard my little sister talking about it and referred to it as the yippee dog and so I thought that’s what it was called and my gf was scrolling through Ali Express and found a plushie and shirt so we got them for her for Christmas and then after ordering found out it was called the autism creature, had no idea, not sure how our mom would feel about that considering it brother is autistic but thought I would share the story

It’s awful. As someone with autism, I hate this thing so much. I find it more offensive than the puzzle. It’s a weird, creepy, soulless alien creature which is how some people see people with autism. It feels like just another insult about how people with autism have no feelings, no emotions and are not “real people” but different weird beings. I get enough mockery like that at home, I don’t need a representation of it as an “icon” for autism.

Wait, it’s jokingly called the autism mascot? I seriously want it to be the mascot of autism, it explains it a lot. It shows no emotion although being happy, it doesn’t seem human (which can explain the “feeling off” about autism and trying to fit in) and sort of screaming/yelling when happy. Keep in mind that I am a person who might have autism but i am yet to be diagnosed.
holy shit. i know identity v doesnt have nothing to do with this but im still surprised the game popped up since anyone barely knows about it (even if it has millions of downloads on the app store/play store) edit: just found out this started out as a meme in the idv community i think? i think thats cool! idv is a rlly underrated game, i dont rlly interact with the community so i didnt know but i have been playing for years now so this just feels surreal💀
I created a f*cking war in the comment section of my google classroom.. it was so bad, that the teacher had to ban people from commenting. Then someone else decided to start another war in a different google classroom. R.I.P to Yippee! and Elmo 😢 (those are the words used to start the war) i am not sorry for this 😀
