What Conspiracies Does Trump Hold Onto?

This article presents a list of conspiracy theories created or promoted by Donald Trump, the former US president from 2017 to 2021. With two months until Election Day, Trump is promoting at least nine baseless conspiratorial tales, all pushing the same conspiracy theory: the 2020 election was stolen and the only way Trump can lose in 2024 is if it is stolen again. These theories are misleading, disproven, or false.

The “big tent conspiracy theory” falsely claims that former President Trump is facing down a shadowy cabal of Democratic pedophiles. Whether he is out of power or in office, Trump deploys conspiracy theory as a political mobilizing tool designed to capture anger at the liberal left. In 2022, a study found that belief in conspiracy theories can be strongly associated with certain psychological traits and non-political worldviews.

During his presidency, Trump frequently retweeted followers linked to the notorious conspiracy theory QAnon, which originated in 2017 and claimed that a powerful cabal of Democrats were saving the world from cannibal pedophiles. The conspiracy theory grew out of 4chan message boards and is an unfounded, wide-ranging theory that says President Trump is waging a secret war against elite Satan-worshipping.

Conspiration theories seem to be everywhere these days, found in American politics and on people’s social media feeds. Led by their presidential nominee, Republicans have increasingly embraced false tales and groundless claims once relegated to the political arena. Trump’s rise to political prominence has led to the spread of racist conspiracy theories, teaching new and dangerous lessons about manipulating social and mass media.

  • What? NO. He doesn’t have to actually believe the conspiracy theories he states and tweets. He will say he absolutely believes them (or “absolutely believes them maybe”). All he has to do is hear the theory, then he just needs to common sense with his intuition and instincts that if HE says that theory in the correct way with the correct words, it will work – everyone will listen, enough listeners will common sense that is a great statement, and they will like Trump and tell him how great he is.
