What Do All Of The Astrological Planet Positions Mean?

Astrology is a field that explores the meanings and symbols of the ten planetary bodies in our solar system. Each planet has a unique personality, a symbolic meaning and agency behind their energy. As they pass through the twelve signs of the zodiac, their personality is shaped by their location on Earth.

The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are all associated with certain symbols and meanings. Each planet represents an aspect of our personalities, ruling over different parts of our psyche. The placement of these planets in our houses reveals where we store our energy and our strengths and weaknesses.

Modern astrologers use planets to represent basic drives or urges in the subconscious, or energy flow regulators representing dimensions of experience. For example, Venus represents love and relationships, while Mars represents sex and aggression.

Each planet in our birth chart has specific energies, meanings, and archetypes that appear in our lives. For example, Venus is associated with the sun, which represents our core identity. The moon represents emotions and instincts, while Mercury represents our values.

A birth chart shows us who we are at our core and calculates the astrological aspects and sensitive angles of the magical moment of our birth. By understanding the intricacies of each astrological planet, we can better understand our personalities, behaviors, and life experiences.

What is the rarest planet conjunction in astrology?

Great conjunctions occur every 20 years when Jupiter overtakes Saturn in its orbit, making them the rarest of the conjunctions between naked-eye planets. The spacing between the planets varies, with most events being 0. 5 to 1. 3 degrees (30 to 78 arcminutes, or 1 to 2. 5 times the width of a full moon). Very close conjunctions occur less frequently, with separations of less than 10 arcminutes only happening four times since 1200, most recently in 2020.

Great conjunctions have attracted significant attention as omens in the past, with topics discussed by pre-scientific and transitional astronomer-astrologers, scholastic thinkers, and authors such as Dante, Lope de Vega, and Shakespeare. This interest in conjunctions can be traced back to translations of Arabic texts, particularly Albumasar’s book on conjunctions. In the past, great conjunctions were discussed by pre-scientific and transitional astronomer-astrologers, scholastic thinkers, and authors like Dante, Lope de Vega, and Shakespeare.

What are the most powerful placements in birth chart?

The most active and potent houses in a birth chart are the 1st, 10th, 7th, 4th, 11th, and 5th houses, with the angular houses being the most active. Planets in these houses make a lasting impact and are often referred to as “strong Mercury” or “dominant Mars”. Traditional astrology can help determine which placements are strong or dominant by comparing essential and accidental dignity.

To identify the strongest or most dominant placements in a birth chart, consider the ruling planet, which has the strongest influence in your life. While modern astrologers often emphasize the ascendant as an important point in the chart, the ruling planet of your ascendant may be even more important. The sign on your ascendant tells you something about your unique path in life, but the ruling planet of the ascendant determines how you walk that path.

Maraka in Hindu astrology refers to the planets that cause death at the end of a particular life-span. If the assessed life-span is not over, they cause accident, ill-health, poverty, and misery during their dasha or antra-dasha. Each lagna has a fixed maraka or marakas, with the Sun and Moon, and the lord of the 9th house generally not becoming marakas. Primary determinants of death are malefic planets occupying the 2nd and 7th houses and associated with their lords.

Secondary determinants include benefic planets in association with lords of the 2nd and 7th house, benefic planets in association with lords of the 3rd and 8th house, or the lord of the 3rd or 8th associating with the lord of the 2nd or 7th house. Tertiary determinants include Saturn associating with any of the aforementioned marakas, the lord of the 6th or 8th associated with a maraka, and the least powerful planet in the horoscope.

The results of good and bad karmas collected by man between intervals of birth become known in this birth, and the aggregate of man’s karma shape are comprehended with the aid of Jyotisha. The Amsayu method is used to determine the possible span of life if the Lagna is vested with strength, the Pindayu method for the Sun, and the Nisargayu method for the Moon.

Longevity is determined on the strength of the horoscope and the dasa of planets. The planets most afflicted by maraka-propensities are the cause of death. Diseases alone are not the cause of all deaths, but diseases resulting from bad karmas cannot be cured. The grant of term of life depends on Bhagya (luck), and a person not blessed with good health does not enjoy to any extent their granted term of life.

A planet in a very close conjunction to the Sun is considered Cazimi, meaning “in the heart” of the Sun. Venus is in a conjunction with the Sun with an orb of less than ~0. 28°. If a planet is moderately close to the Sun, the specific orb limit may depend on the planet. A conjunction occurs every month during the New Moon. In the past, Great Conjunctions between Jupiter and Saturn have attracted significant attention as celestial omens. This interest can be traced back to Arabic translations in Europe, such as Albumasar’s book on conjunctions.

Astronomers, including scholastic thinkers like Roger Bacon and Pierre D’Ailly, discussed these omens during the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. Omens were also mentioned in popular literary writings by authors like Dante and Shakespeare.

What do all the planets mean in astrology?

Astrology associates each planet with a specific energetic force, such as the sun representing identity, the moon representing emotions, Mercury representing communication, Venus representing values, Mars representing motivation, Jupiter representing expansion, Saturn representing responsibilities, Uranus representing innovation, Neptune representing spirituality, and Pluto representing transformation. When multiple planets meet via aspects, different energies fuse, creating a powerful aspect known as a conjunction.

Aspects are divided into two main groups: “soft” aspects (positive relationships between planets) and “hard” aspects (challenging planetary connections). Most modern astrologers focus on the five “major aspects”. When the planets meet at the same point in the sky, such as during a new moon, the planetary energies blend together, forming a powerful aspect known as a conjunction. This aspect is neither soft nor hard, as the impact depends on which planets are involved. For example, a Mercury-Venus conjunction can help communicate values, while a Mars-Pluto conjunction may lead to destructive behavior.

  • Best planet overview article I’ve seen. Thank you so much. Can’t wait till the in depth article for each planet! I know one of your gals did a Lilith thru the chart article but I would love to hear an in depth about Lilith from you specifically. 🤗 I have Lilith in the 1st house, Aquarius rising, and I just feel that energy is like a key to everything about myself lol but its hard to find insightful, in-depth info on the Lilith point in astrology. Thank you again for your website, your hard work, and many blessings to you!

  • That was a wonderful article Meridith. I think that was my first time perusal and I got SO much from this article. The way you explained each of the planets really helped me to understand and retain the info quite easily. I am very curious and a bit worried about my Saturn and Pluto placements and was hoping you could give me just a little bit of insight into them? Let’s hope I’m wording this all right and it’s what you require – My Saturn is in Libra 12house, mercury and Mars both square Saturn, and Jupiter in conjunct to Saturn . My Pluto is also in Libra 12th house with Sun square Pluto, moon conjunct Pluto, mercury and Mars both trine Pluto, and Neptune is sextile to Pluto. Thanks again for the informative really great article and for any info you can give me on my Saturn and Pluto placements. Looking forward to more great content from you! 🦀 Sun 🦂 Moon, ⚖️ Ascendant. 🙃😀

  • I am a Ascendant in Capricorn, Sun in Leo, Sun in 7th house, Moon in Aries, Moon in the 3rd house, Mars in Cancer, Mars in the 6th house, Mercury in Cancer, Mercury in the 6th house, Venus in Leo, Venus in the 7th house, Jupiter in Libra, Jupiter in the 8th house, Saturn in Libra, Saturn in the 8th house, Uranus in Scorpio, Uranus in the 10th house, and Neptune in Sagittarius, Neptune in the 11th house.

  • My Pluto is in libra in the 9th house – I also have in the 9th house – the Sun, Mars, Uranus, & Mercury – and yes I have had a very difficult life thus far – but I am believing that it has not been for nothing. It has grated me back to my core. My Chiron is Aries – and this seems to have been rather influential to the events I call my life. 😅

  • My Jupiter is in the 11th house in cancer. I always had strong friendships and also strong partnership. I am close with my dad but I always felt very sad because my sister and mother never seemed to like me very much, despise my efforts. Things got better with my sister for a while though, but she still can be pretty mean and moody. My mom did something really bad out of greed and for her personal interest, and so after that I took my distances; which I do not regret even if it still is sad. I don’t have many friends at the moment, but they are people who respect me, appreciate me and love me. I’m very good at connecting with people, a bit too good even. A lot of time, mostly male friends tend to easily “fall in love” with me because I’m a great listener and healer, and people in need of healing will often get attached to me. I’m really good at setting boundaries with those people and will have no problem setting them straight and being stern if I need to. I think they appreciate my blunt honesty and integrity. Which is also often something they lack themselves I notices… anyways I am rambling lol

  • My Birth Charts: ASC – 2°15 ♈ ☉ – ♋ 2°49 – 4. 🏠 (3st dominant planet) Full ☽ – ♑ 17°51– 11. 🏠 ☿ – ♊ 15°13 – 3. 🏠 (4st dominant planet) ♀ – ♌ 18°02 – 6. 🏠 ♂ – ♈ 25°33 – 1. 🏠 (1st dominant planet) ♃ – ♈ 20°46 – 1. 🏠 (2st dominant planet) ♄ – ♋ 19°50 – 5. 🏠 ♅ – ♎ 28°25 – 7. 🏠 ♆ – ♐ 9°48 – 8. 🏠 ♇ – ♎ 6°29 – 7. 🏠 ☊ – ♏ 29°19 – 8. 🏠 ☋ – ♉ 19°19 – 2. 🏠

  • I have a 6 planet stellium in Capricorn in the 5 and 6th house. Except if look at whole sign house system, then they all fall in the 6th in Cap. Moon, Venus, Mars, Saturn, Neptune and Uranus. Also have Mercuy conjuct north node in the 6th in Aquarius( in Placidius), not that far away from the stellium (15degrees away) …Sun is in the 7th house in Pisces. I care a lot about health and wellness, I’m not the best at understanding my emotions, but I have been working on being more aware of the way I feel through mindfulness. Relationship play a key role in my personal growth. I have never been single since I was 15, not because I can’t be alone, but it’s just that the perfect person just keep popping up in my life to take me to the next level. I have only been in long relationships. 9 yrs; 2 yrs and now 5 yrs and going strong. Iam a leo rising btw, so it doesn’t help me being vulnerable as I dislike showing my “weakness” to others. But it’s not as bad as it used to be. I am with a wonderful partner with whom I feel comfortable expressing my struggles and worries. He is also very good at noticing if im not feeling well, or if something is bothering me, without me having to say anything. And often offer support and a listening hear. Im so grateful for him. I’m not sure what to make of my big stellium in Capricorn in the 6th. how can I work with it to make my life better? I also have Jupiter in Caner and I’m a Pisces sun… So I can have big emotions too, which I try to bury oftentimes but they come out anyways.

  • Hi Meredith, thank you very much for this quick resume about the planets. I’m Leo rising with Mercury, Venus retrograde, Moon and Jupiter in the 1st house. 2nd Virgo with Virgo sun and Libra Mars. 4th house scorpio Pluto. Capricorn Neptune, Uranus, North Node and 0 degrees Aquarius Saturn in the 6th house Capricorn. It would be interesting to watch a article from you about the Stelliums through the houses.

  • Hey Dear Meredith I’m 38 years old Aquarius Rising, My Birth time is 8:32pm, on Valentines Day 14th February 1984, Aquarius Sunsign. I Have the Moon, Mars and Saturn all in the 1st House Aries, Mercury in the 2nd House Taurus, Neptune and North Node in the 3rd House Gemini, Jupiter in the 4th House, The Sun in the 7th House Libra, Pluto, Uranus and South Node in 9th House Sagittarius and Venus in the 10th House Capricorn. Thank you so much in Advance for your reply that will be Greatly Cherished with Deep Gratitude.Thank you.

  • Meriting retrograde in 8 th house..I just don’t listen to what people say I listen to how they say it ..I remember what they say also to see if the story changed ..I put two and two together..My Venus is in the 8 th house also it’s in Leo..I’m very kind unless you use my kindness for weakness..I’ll drop you so quick

  • Do you have Mars in Gemini? I had to laugh at the Mars sign explanation. My brother recently told me I have main character energy (I had to google what that meant!) when I move I sometimes dance. I was a freelance Graphic Designer for a while which fit my Libra Sun, but I didn’t enjoy it as I want instant recognition for my own work, not be in the background working on other people’s projects. I have Mars in Leo. It is square my Scorpio Venus and I have a love hate relationship with wanting to be in the spotlight and also being private. My Mars is also trine my Aries AC. Aries Rising Sun (Libra) 6H Moon (Libra) 7H Mercury (Scorpio) 7H Venus (Scorpio) 8H Mars (Leo) 4H Jupiter (Libra) 6H Saturn (Libra) 6H Uranus (Scorpio) 8H Neptune (Sagittarius) 9H Pluto (Libra) 7H How does my Libra Stellium of Sun, Saturn, Jupiter, Moon and Pluto (in that order) work? I was told I have to experience the energy of each planet in my daily routine, on my own or through others. Sometimes this stellium overwhelms me (lol!)

  • Your Mars is in Libra…. My venus in in scorpio in the 12th house… My mars is in Capricorn in the 2nd house. I am pleasant and and empath but it’s wise not to cross me… I am vindictive and I do hold grudges for life. 😏 I am Libra Sun in the 11th, as well as mercury… I have my moon. In pisces in the 4th house. My rising is in scorpio… My jupiter is in Capricorn in the 2nd house. My saturn is in scorpio in the 12th house👀

  • I’ve asked so many people and researched but I don’t have the exact time I was born. I already tried calling the hospital but they said they only keep records for 10 years. It’s not on my birth certificate. What else can I do? My mom says one time and my dad says another and when I’ve looked it up they are both completely different signs. Thank you! ❤

  • My best friend has her Jupiter in the 7th house in Cancer, ( her 7th is ruled by Gemini though) and she is struggling to find a serious relationship. It’s not hard for her to find a guy to date as she is very pretty, cultivated and intelligent, but they never want anything serious or are just not a good match… She has a grand trine Sun Moon and Jupiter, which I thought would be a good thing for relationship? What can she do to attract a serious and committed partner? What should I look at on her chart to find info on this?

  • I really don’t get what the sun does. I haven’t found a description that makes sense to me or that is consistent. It seems the rising is truly who a person is not the sun and isn’t a mask. SO what exactly does the sun do. All the other planets make sense accept for the sun and my sun sign is the one I relate to the least.

  • Hi Meredith, I am a scorpio rising with Mars in 1st house square Jupiter in Aquarius (4H) and sextile Sun+Mercury in Virgo (11H). Venus in Libra (12H) trine Jupiter and opposing Saturn in Aries. Do you have any insight specifically regarding Mars and Venus placements? Thank you, really appreciate your work!
