What Do Astrological Charts’ “Ted Lines” Mean?

Astrocartography is a tool used to interpret a person’s personality and natal chart. It involves mapping out personal planetary lines from the birth chart onto the globe, with red lines representing hard aspects (conjunctions, oppositions, squares) and blue lines representing easier aspects (sextile, trine, semisextile). Astrology studies the interactions between planets, stars, and personality, and charts are used to help interpret a person’s life.

There are two ways to read a chart: to get someone’s personality and to do predictive astrology, where the planets are now in relation to where they were when you were born. A natal chart abounds with bits and pieces of information about an individual, each separate bit must be synthesized into one whole picture of the person.

There are five major aspects: conjunction, sextile, square, trying, and opposition. These aspects represent different relationships and how two placements in a chart “see eachother”. Black solid lines (iOS) or red lines (Android) represent a “square” aspect, while blue lines represent “soft aspects” (sextile, trine, semisextile, etc.).

The red lines depict challenging aspects (or challenging relationships between the planets), while the blue lines represent harmonious aspects. The odds of someone having the exact same natal chart as you are one in 10 billion, but the odds of someone being a fellow Libra is 1/12. By understanding the patterns in an astrological birth chart, individuals can better understand their personality and potential life-changing travel destinations.

Is red good or bad luck?

Red is the luckiest color in China, symbolizing celebration, success, and good fortune. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, red represents fire and is associated with strength and power. Red is also worn by Chinese brides as a symbol of fertility and warding off evil. In ancient times, only emperors and their relatives could have homes with red and yellow roof tiles. Chinese red is inclusive of shades of pink, orange, and dark brown, which would be distinguished in other cultures.

Red is found in eight places in China: festivals, weddings, historical buildings, lanterns, gift-giving envelopes, traditional robes of high officials, art and culture, and national symbols like the flag. The walls of the Forbidden City in Beijing are mostly painted red, as it is seen as a symbol of good fortune and warding off evil spirits.

What do the red and green lines mean on a stock chart?

Tickers use color schemes to indicate stock trading, with green indicating higher trading than the previous day’s close, red indicating lower trading, and blue or white indicating unchanged trading. Before 2001, stocks were quoted in fractions, but decimalization allowed for more precision and allowing orders to be entered to the penny. Quotes are selected based on factors such as stock volume, price change magnitude, holding wideness, and significant news on the companies. Millions of trades are executed daily on thousands of stocks, making it impossible to report every trade on the ticker tape.

What do red lines mean in an astrology chart?

The text indicates that the color red represents “hard aspects,” which include squares, conjunctions, and oppositions.

Which chart pattern is most powerful?

Chart patterns are shapes within a price chart that suggest future price trends based on past actions. They are the foundation of technical analysis and require traders to understand their objectives and the market they are trading in. Some of the best chart patterns include head and shoulders, double top, double bottom, rounding bottom, cup and handle, wedges, pennant or flags, ascending triangle, descending triangle, and symmetrical triangle. There is no one “best” chart pattern, as they highlight different trends in various markets and are often used in candlestick trading to better understand market openings and closings.

What do red lines mean in astrology?

The Huber House System is a useful tool for interpreting astrological charts, as it is clearer and simpler to read. The best way to understand someone’s motivations is to count the number of colored aspect lines. Red lines represent energy, blue lines are relaxed, and green lines are searching for knowledge. The number of red lines indicates energy, while blue lines indicate relaxation. If there are too many blue lines, the person may be lazy, leading to more work. The Huber House System is a clearer and simpler way to interpret astrological charts, but it is important to consider the individual’s motivations and the potential for confusion.

What is the luckiest aspect in astrology?

Trines are favorable aspects in astrology, occurring between planets approximately four zodiac signs apart (or 120 degrees). These planets are usually situated in the same element (fire, earth, air, or water) and create a gentle union distinguished by ease and fluidity. When they sync, these planets understand each other, allowing for easy movement with little external effort. However, too much trining can lead to problems, such as laziness and complacency.

The most notorious aspect is the square, which occurs between planets approximately three zodiac signs apart (or form 90-degree angle in the sky from our vantage point). These planets are usually situated within the same modality (cardinal signs), fixed signs, and mutable signs. Squares are considered hard aspects, creating tension and dividing intentions, leading to emotional or logistical roadblocks. Despite this friction, squares always catalyze action. They are considered motion-oriented, enabling us to easily identify issues and address them rather than sweeping them under the rug.

For example, when Mars (all about spontaneous motivation) and Saturn (all about rules and regulations) square, we may feel that our passions are being dampened by our responsibilities. However, this aspect also creates an opportunity to slow down and become a true master at our craft through refinement, hard work, and strategic planning.

To identify the zodiac signs that are always squaring each other, use the following list: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius (fire), Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn (earth), Gemini, Libra, Aquarius (air), Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces (water).

  • I’ve been studying astrology for about a year now and mostly understood reading charts to a certain degree but this basics article has been so helpful in making me understand more. I always enjoy the way you explain things very thoroughly and in very simple language to understand for any level of learner

  • What I love about YouTube is that people like you put information out and it reaches people when they are ready to receive it. I have read some of these comments and they all said pretty much what I thought, I have seen other articles and thought I understood most of the basics, but I learned a lot from this article and many of your articles. I need to learn to start perusal the article on one device so I can look at charts on another device lol. I’m always pausing and then switching to another app to cast a chart. I learn so much from your articles. Thank you so much for sharing these with us!

  • I love this tutorial! I have sent it to a few friends who are looking to learn to read their chart but maybe aren’t ready for a “school”. It’s short (for you, lol), and I feel that is helpful because too much information when you’re just learning is confusing. I remember when I was first learning and sometimes the classes were 2 hours and by the end, my head was spinning. Thanks as always, Chris!

  • Wow I’ve been looking for a description article FOREVER.. this is exactly what I needed!! You taught this exactly the way I need to learn it.. I’m a details person.. like the way u explained what each component IS, rather than only noting what it means if it’s in a certain position.. that’s what most articles do.. it’s like reading a book on how to fix a car without knowing how or with in the first place lol… anywho thank you so very, very, very much for this article, and being an Awesome teacher!!

  • Thank you, Chris. You are a great teacher! Wish I had known about this article a year ago when I started looking at my own birth chart. I thought I’d watch to see if I’m getting it right. The aspects are very challenging for me, but I will keep at it. Side note: I grew up in Denver. Born and raised. Still in Colorado, just further north. Take Care!

  • Chris, I have been interested and have received life changing reading all my adult life and now seem to be interested in actually doing readings and learning in depth. Your chart reading for beginners was very practical and straight forward and I really benefited from it. I would be interested in continuing building the learning curve with you. What’s next?

  • Hi Chris! Lots of great info. Can you (in a future article) explain about the North and South Node. I know the North Node is supposed to be your “reason/what you should be doing in life” (I think), but what about the South Node? I’m also interested in knowing more about the rising and descendant signs.

  • WOW!!!! THANK YOU, VERY MUCH, Mr. Chris Brennan, for actually going into great detail to explain these basic, vital aspects of “how to read a Birth Chart”!!! Your tutorial (here) is Awesome, and, is much appreciated!!! Do you have any particular reference books, that you’d recommend, to help with learning this kind of detailed information?!… Thanks!!!

  • Hi Chris, thanks so much for your clarity. I always appreciate that immensely about your article’s. What I would like to know is this: what is the implication of being born on an eclipse? I was born on the day before a partial solar eclipse in my first house. My 1st house a huge challenge for me, that much I do know. Does the eclipse have anything to do with that? Maybe a article in the future of that in particular?

  • Hey Chris !! Love the awesome way you are able to simplify things. Thanks so much . I had a quick question. My Sun Sign is Leo and my Ascendant is Aries !! Does that mean I am more of an Aries than a Leo ?? And would it be more prudent and reasonable to follow the predictions of the Aries sign since the rising sign (or Ascendant) would more accurately reflect who I am and the future events to follow both in my life and career ?? Your thoughts on this would be much appreciated !! Once again thanks for your wonderfully succinct and extremely elegant explanation of the basic Natal chart and its significance

  • First, really appreciate your articles. I would enjoy seeing something on aspect patterns. The basics are fairly easy to understand, but when you see things like multiple t-squares on top of each other, or a grand cross that includes a super active Chiron (I know only planets are supposed to be included in grand crosses, but what if Chiron is aspecting most of the other chart elements?). Wedges, Yods, that kind of thing? So I guess just kind of the next step in, beyond initial significations regarding planetary aspects. And once again thanks for you work!

  • very good article, thanks. you explained aspects so clearly. one question- if the ascendant is the place where the sun was rising.. isn’t that what your sun sign is? since you’d be born under the sign that was rising in the morning. or are you not describing it in a literal sense? can anyone illuminate?

  • Chris, on the very top-left of the chart next to my name, there is a zodiac sign for which isn’t my birth sign. Can you shine some light on this particular item. On the chart in this article, I see a Mars zodiac symbol. This article already answered for me the meaning of the 3×4 table concerning elements/ sign qualities. Great tutorial, Thanks

  • My question that I’ve been wondering for YEARS: Every time I search houses, I get he same info: ‘1-aries-self, 2-taurus-possessions, 3-Gemini-Communications’ etc. but what I’m really looking for is this, say in this instance, house one is obviously located on sagittarius. But I thought Aries is always the 1st house? So in this case what do you do? Is Sagittarius now the 1st house of self and Aries now the 5th house of pleasure?

  • Great, thank you! Very helpful. You are a great teacher. Is it possible that some signs are not associated with a particular sign? For instance, I am also Scorpio ascendant at 23degrees. Second house in sag at 24 degrees. 3rd house is in Aquarius at 2 degrees. Capricorn was completely swallowed up in the second house. My North node is in Capricorn, so is my North node in second house?

  • Hey man! You have the best tutotials on reading the charts even though i wish you would have mentioned or talked about the conjunction line which I’m assuming was probably the green dotted line??? Anyways, i have this problem figuring out how to read texts on ancient astrological magick and planetary influence on alchemy, which I’m getting into spagyrics. Do you think you could do a article on something out of the picatrix? Lile a saturn amulet or talisman? Showing how to figure out when those traits would come into being on a chart? The picatrix isn’t lile a manual or a cookbook as in the fact that it wasn’t meant for looking up the instructions on how to make talismans, moreso it tells you which planets have what kind of traits while in conjunction to each other or what they have in common with each other and abhor about eachother. What kind of maginetic qualities they have. But it would take a seasoned astrologer to know what they are talking about.

  • Hey Chris – Thanks so much for this. I’m just starting my astrology studies. I bought Robert Hand’s book on Horoscope Symbols and two that you recommended – Practical Astrology and Parker’s Astrology. I’ve printed out my chart on astro.com and I’ve noticed something that I hope you can comment on. On the left hand side of the char there are two glyphs for Virgo on the top and bottom of the lines delineating the first house. On the left hand side of the chart on the lines delineating the 7th house there is the glyph for Pices. There is no glyph on my chart for Cancer or Capricorn. Why is that?

  • I know this was from 2 years ago but here is to hoping you still answer questions. Everytime I see one of these articles the birth chart example looks like yours where the lines make circles around the middle circle. However, mine does not do that, is that weird? Mine just makes a line, a weird line, but a line, maybe a triangle-line, on one side of the chart. Is that uncommon and why did it happen?

  • I am brand new to this, and know I still have much to learn. As I was following along with your article, I was looking at my birth chart. On mine, it shows my True Node as 13 CAN 52’43″d. You explained that if an R was present, that meant the planet was in retrograde, but what does the D mean? Thank you in advance!

  • Can you discuss anaretic degrees in natal, sola, and progressed charts and the overall gravity it has in relation to our lives? Example, i have 29 deg Mercury Libra 7th house in my natal chart; and I have 29 degree Sun, Sag /10th house in progressed chart. I have an anaretic in every chart basically. Which has more gravity??? Thank you

  • Personally seriously I was looking for how much astrology tells about for a symbols of pregnancy & symbolic sign for year of death if it is true knowledge than every one must know about his/her year of death & also about successful marriage also included mother father babies births If this knowledge is true than each & every one wanted to know these type of serious information’s That we must must have to plan focus more & more in ourself ..that should be our must most important step of life ..

  • If, like this example chart shown, the ascendant falls in a different sign Scorpio, to most of the first house in Sagittarius. Does the person take on Sag traits from their first house or is it that when the planets are transiting, you get the experience of a Sagittarius even though they’re a Scorpio rising? If that makes sense? …I ask as I have a late Virgo rising but Libra dominates my first house.

  • I am taking a beginner astrology class. As part of our final assignment, I need to identify the major aspects in my own chart, but I cannot see the shapes in the centre area. I can use the graph, but it doesn’t tell me the 3rd planet in a trine. I think my chart is kind of messy. Does anyone have any tips?

  • I have a question! When I was first taught to read birth charts, I was taught that one house is associated with one sign and on Astro, this is not the case at all. Like the 7th house contains Taurus and Gemini in this example. Can someone explain this to me? Or is it just the house system? And I know it’s explained how to change it on Astro in this article but when I actually try to change it on Astro it doesn’t allow me to

  • The only question I have is: why, if we’re told the houses are counter clockwise to imitate the planetary motion through the signs, do they then move clockwise just as the zodiac does through the houses? For instance the asc glyph is clockwise just like the sun in this chart. That’s confusing to me. I’m seeing conflicting descriptions online.

  • I asked this question under another article when I meant to ask it under this article. Can you explain what the degrees mean in each sign/house. I’m wondering if a person at birth has say 20 degree Leo will that person display more traits of a Leo or as a Virgo seeing as the degree at the person’s birth was closer to Virgo? How is any degrees in a sign affecting any person? Thank you again!

  • The houses to me are confusing,,,when I hear or read that Aries is the sign of the first house …..yet the ascendant is the start of the chart where the first house is ? So my question really is …my ascendant is cancer and not Aries ? Am I missing something in my head ? Am so blocked by this and can’t move forward quicker with my own learning to track the transits 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  • Not sure where to ask this question but I would really like you to do an analysis of Bryan Johnson, who believes he has found the ‘fountain of youth’. I have not been able to find an exact time of birth but here is his Wikipedia page and a brief version of his biography in a YouTube article. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bryan_Johnson youtube.com/watch?v=pSkfk_Snygo
