What are the three important powers of Neptune?

Neptune, a sea god, was depicted with dark hair and a richly colored azure mantle. He had a sullen expression and a mild demeanor, even when angered. He held a three-pronged trident with extraordinary powers, which he used to smash rocks, create waves, and call forth storms. Neptune rode on a dolphin or a giant sea shell with his wife, accompanied by sea gods, goddesses, a large crowd of sea nymphs, and Triton, their son. Triton would blow on his seashell trumpet to calm the waves and announce the god’s arrival.

Neptune, ruler of ocean, summoned Triton, who rose from the deep with barnacle-crusted shoulders. Neptune instructed Triton to sound trumpet calls on his conch shell to recall rivers and waves. Neptune’s punishment after attempting to overthrow Jupiter and put him in chains was to serve a mortal. He wandered the earth, finding employment in Troy. He met Jupiter’s son, Phoebus, who had also angered Jupiter and was sentenced to the same punishment. They approached King Laomedon, who offered Phoebus services as a shepherd and Neptune to build tall stone walls around Troy. They were promised rewards in return for their hard work.

What emotion does Neptune rule?

Neptune, along with Jupiter, co-rules Pisces and the 12th house, which is the domain of the invisible and empathic. Its interaction with other planets can help understand how creative, spiritual, or psychic faculties emerge, and where blurriness, addiction, and insobrity run roughshod over your chart. To fully understand Neptune’s impact, it is essential to know its location in your chart by house.

In the first house, Neptune may appear as an ever-evolving artist or sphinx with a penchant for reinvention. However, his presence can be profoundly ungrounding, requiring stability and a sense of consistent identity. In the second house, Neptune may indicate a blurriness around personal finances or a propensity for debt and insolvency. However, if properly channeled, Neptune’s rays can grant perspective and generosity about what belongs to you, freeing you from the materialistic factory farm of late capitalism. By understanding Neptune’s impact on your chart, you can better navigate your life and find the right balance between creativity, spirituality, and personal possessions.

  • This is a great and really accurate explanation, I’m glad I came across it. Neptune has been transiting my 10th house for years and I’ve really been on a spiritual quest in terms of career. I’ve quit many jobs and even gotten into debt. And I’ve produced many creative works in this process but I’m still not 100% sure which direction to go. I think the key to this process is to work on the works I idealize while working part-time, as you said. Thank you🍀

  • I also want to mention how spot on you are about Neptune hitting the career sector. For the past couple years it has been making a trine to my MC while squaring Mars, the ruler of it. I am so unsure of what to do, should I do art or study more so that I feel secure enough in taking clients for astrology readings or tarot but I will say that since I learned my lesson during the Neptune square transit I’m not apt to just through everything away so I can work and live on the beach alone which I really want to do right now. Lol

  • Ha! I joined a cult when Neptune transited my ascendant and my progressed ascendant was in Pisces.. I didn’t get away until years later when Jupiter was conjunct my Pluto but gaaawd, the amount of torment cause by idealizing this cult (Jehovah’s Witnesses) made me feel like such a horrible person in comparison that it nearly led to my suicide. During my Neptune square Neptune transit it became aware to me how horribly toxic, abusive and narcissistic their beliefs are. Now I do everything I can to bring about the awareness of the dangers of this cult. Their idolization of themselves causes them to have policies in place that set them higher than the law and so instead of reporting child sex abused to the authorities, if there aren’t witnesses they ‘leave it in Jehovah’s hands’ Sorry to get so heavy with this but I think it’s important for people to realize the dangers of Neptune transits. I was particularly susceptible to it’s influences because I have a natal Jupiter, moon Neptune grand trine in my chart. It’s been the most destructive thing in my chart, hands down.

  • At this time I’ve got Neptune retrograde squaring my Saturn and opposing my Sun. Yikes, maybe the roughest time of my life, born 9/18/43, NYC, 9:25 AM. Making me deepen my faith, thank goodness for my Buddhist practice, Nam Myoho Renge Kyo. I’m a writer, teacher, and astrologer, M.A. Any comments anyone? Will be glad to help you if I can…Alan, Torrance, CA.

  • I feel such a strong sense of meaninglessness today that is stunning to me. There is no image left of the future and no real memory from the past. It is fascinating to observe. And what you read is true; I absolutely resonate with it today and did say it even to my mom – love alone isn’t enough if you can’t place it somewhere or if it’s not coming back in some form. I guess that’s how death feels like. Meaningless. I guess the connection between Sedna, Pluto, and Lilith plays into it, and the illusion of a meaningful life fades. Thank you!

  • I am in the recovery program of Adult Children of Alcoholics. I just deepened into my healing of a trauma that occured when I was four. I finally could relate to how I felt as a little girl and could name what I felt instead of looking at the little girl with my adult self with a distant and critical eye. This transit seems like the amenable waters to my integration and healing. (Mother wound).

  • Wow that James Hillman quote about Love and Imagination is Everything! ❤It touched me so deeply and I guess shouldn’t be surprised, I have natal Venus opposition Neptune right on my 4/10th house axis, so I resonate with the Venus/Neptune energy very super strongly. Like the kids say, I’m feeling ALL the feels LOL

  • I really loved this talk. I could feel the transmission of joy and peace experienced by your girls in the moments of reminiscing on earlier phases of their lives with you, through imagination and while witnessing your own energy light up as you share and revisit these memories. Such a heartfelt and warming discussion. Much appreciation, Adam!

  • On point 3. How many love songs feature the word baby. How many people call their lover “babe”. This isn’t something we like to think about, but we should. There are a lot of reasons. The whole “I should be fully actualized” thing. Toxic individualism, atomization. Good for capitalism. Then there is the vulnerability that comes from needing anything that we cannot provide for ourselves. Then there is the “ick” factor in the recognition of how much our intimate lives reflect something “parental”. Either because of the unresolved trauma form our parents that we play out in our intimate relationships which is well documented in both psychological literature and, if we are honest, in our own experience. Finally, and this one is really icky, the ways in which our lovers and spouses fulfill that need for absolute acceptance, even indulgence. Theer is so much here.

  • Oh yeah what started as a gentle rain this morning snowballed into a flood of emotions by the night and the suddenness in the change of temperature from past few days was hard to ignore. Also on a world events perspective this literally happened in Mumbai with rain that turned into flooding yesterday Hopefully the tide settles soon both in the inner and the outer world 🤞🏼

  • Thank you, Adam❤ Mother wounds, hmmmmm. I am wondering, is that why I have gravitated towards older women in friendships? I recently started going to my nearby rec center, which has a walking “pool,” and I am enjoying it in the early mornings. I have met a group of older women who are so kind and welcoming towards me, which is very healing for me. I had a very cold and not so nice mother growing up (Mars 4h cancer, opposite moon in Cap) I also had a strange dream last night involving water. I was in the water, and a HUGE wave was coming towards me. I didn’t have time to get away from it, and I knew I had to just go under it, thinking that i would be tossed and turned something awful. But to my surprise, when I went under it was calm there, and I made it unscathed!

  • As someone commented (noticed this perusal the article as it scrolls through them automatically), a topic that’s come up with the rise in popularity of astrology: in the system I’m studying in courses, a person shouldn’t learn astrology until near the age of 40 and not practice it publicly until after the age of 42. It’s actually liberal arts as a whole as that doesn’t actually develop until the last stage of sun (38-42) and ability to understand isn’t worked on until the mars stage. An example would be a topic I see people complain about is older bands still existing and touring. If I laid out what I listened to as a teenager, those bands are still around but the songs are not represented by their Mercury stage developing through the sun stages, it’s changed to mars, Jupiter and even Saturn at this point. Bands typically break up at the 2nd solar stage and go independent routes by my generation, they both stay together and go independent. Historically, liberal arts expressing the Mercury stage wouldn’t be smiled upon 😆. Neptune is a tricky topic converting to this system as it pretty much perfectly aligns with “Luciferic” which also means you’re stuck explaining what that actually means which is more rejection of meaning of the material world and escapism. Timothy Leary is often given as an archetype for that. Seeing a 9th house Neptune in Leo.. it’s never been disclosed, but it’s most likely the song Eulogy from Tool is about Leary as Leary was releasing albums towards the end of his life guiding people through his dying process as “liberating humanity” which is both arrogant and absurd.

  • thank you so much for this article 🥹🩷 it was an absolute flood starting tuesday night – wednesday finally subsiding today! my venus is in cancer with saturn in pisces & moon in scorpio sooo much water in my chart 😭💗but it was the healing i truly needed from a past connection thank you!! #2 & 5 were 🎯🎯
