What Does Harry Potter’S Ministry Of Magic Do?

In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Hermione Granger is introduced as the Minister of Magic, a role that involves many wizards and witches across Britain. Established in 1707, the Ministry of Magic is responsible for enforcing laws and regulations related to the wizarding world. The Ministry acts as the governmental authority for the magical community in Great Britain, including England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland.

The Minister for Magic is the political leader of the wizarding community worldwide and the highest ranking member of the Ministry of Magic, which they control. The Ministry’s main goal is to keep the wizarding world a secret and an autonomous system to control tradition and all that is associated with it.

The Ministry of Magic is the London-based government headquarters for the British magical community. Dialing 62442 (which spells “MAGIC”) connects the Muggle Government to the Magical World. It is a national government solely for witches and wizards, although they also claim sovereignty towards magical beings and beasts.

The Ministry of Magic ensures that muggles don’t discover that there are wizards among them, acting as the government of the magical community. The Minister for Magic is democratically elected and serves as the primary governing body representative of the magical community in the fictional universe of Harry Potter.

Was Dumbledore ever a Minister for Magic?

The Ministry of Magic, established in 1707, is a magical organization in Britain. It is democratically elected and has a maximum term of seven years. The Minister for Magic is responsible for all matters relating to the magical community in Britain and has sole jurisdiction over their Ministry. The Muggle Prime Minister has no role in appointing the Minister for Magic, whose election is a matter for the magical community themselves. Emergency visits to the Muggle Prime Minister by the Minister for Magic are announced by a portrait of Ulick Gamp, the first Minister for Magic.

No Muggle Prime Minister has ever entered the Ministry of Magic, as ex-Minister Dugald McPhail explains that their young minds couldn’t cope with it. The community generally supports the Minister for Magic, believing that they can manage themselves competently and avoid interference from the Muggles.

Who is the weakest Death Eater?

The Harry Potter series features iconic elements such as Death Eaters, powerful wizards with formidable magical abilities and a ruthless determination to carry out the Dark Lord’s bidding. However, some Death Eaters in the series are so weak that most fans don’t even know who they are. Some of these Death Eaters lack the skills to stand up to the most basic wizards, causing frustration for Voldemort and other Death Eaters. Some of these Death Eaters are so weak that most fans don’t even know who they are.

For example, Crabbe Sr., the father of a dimwitted Death Eater, is not the most efficient Death Eater around due to his lack of wits and common sense. This makes him a common foot soldier with nothing special to offer.

How is the Minister of magic chosen?

Since 1707, the wizarding community in Great Britain and Ireland has repeatedly voted to elect a Minister for Magic to head the British Ministry of Magic. Wizarding law mandated at least one election every seven years, with some Ministers being elected multiple times. Some Ministers were voted out of office, while others were re-elected. Notable elections include Damocles Rowle in 1718, Ignatius Tuft in 1959, and Kingsley Shacklebolt in 1998. The Ministers have appeared in Pottermore and the Wizarding World. The term “Minister” is derived from the term “Minister for Magic”.

Did the Ministry of Magic support Voldemort?

In July, Corban Yaxley informed Voldemort that he had successfully placed Pius Thicknesse, head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, under the Imperius Curse. Thicknesse’s regular contact with Minister for Magic Rufus Scrimgeour and other Ministry heads allowed him to subjugate others to Death Eater control. The Death Eaters also used their growing control to monitor Harry Potter’s use of the Floo Network, Portkey, and Apparation.

The Order of the Phoenix forced Harry to flee his relatives’ home using broomsticks, Thestrals, and Hagrid’s motorbike. A battle ensued when they were ambushed by Death Eaters. The Atrium of the Ministry, now with a new Magic is Might monument, was destroyed.

Is the Minister of magic a death eater?

In the novel Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, In Part 2, he is frequently observed in the company of Voldemort, which suggests that he occupies a prominent position within the Death Eater organization. This may be attributed to his role as a puppet Minister.

Who does Harry turn into in the Ministry of Magic?

In 1997, Harry Potter impersonated Runcorn, a senior figure in the Ministry, to retrieve Salazar Slytherin’s Locket. The Polyjuice Potion was made with Runcorn’s hair, and Harry gained access to the Ministry. Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley gave Runcorn Nosebleed Nougat, causing him a nosebleed. Upon entering the Ministry, a wizard apologized and rushed away, addressing him as “Albert”. Harry shared an elevator with an unnamed wizard who applauded Runcorn’s revelation of Dirk Cresswell’s Muggle ancestry. Arthur Weasley later told “Runcorn” that this revelation would get him into trouble. Harry Potter as Albert Runcorn appeared at the Muggle-Born Registration Commission hearing.

After the death of Scrimgeour, Voldemort takes over the Ministry and appoints Thicknesse as his puppet Minister. Thicknesse joins the ranks of the Death Eaters and fights against Percy Weasley at the Battle of Hogwarts. After the battle, the Imperius Curse is broken, and Kingsley Shacklebolt replaces him as interim Minister for Magic. Thicknesse’s true nature is not known, as he has been under Yaxley’s control for nearly the entire book. Guy Henry plays Thicknesse in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, where he is depicted as a Death Eater even before Scrimgeour’s death.

In Part 2, Thicknesse is killed by Voldemort. Dolores Umbridge, the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor and Senior Undersecretary to the Minister of Magic, is described as a short, squat woman with a childish, high-pitched voice and a tendency to speak condescendingly to people she perceives as lessers.

Is the Ministry of Magic good or bad?

The Ministry of Magic is known for its moral corruption and willingness to accept bribery for personal gain. This corruption has been present since ancient times, with instances such as Dolores Umbridge releasing Mundungus Fletcher after accepting bribes from him. Cornelius Fudge was often funded with gold by Lucius Malfoy in exchange for confidential information about the magical community. Harry Potter refused to advocate for the Ministry, despite multiple requests. Before Kingsley Shacklebolt’s leadership, the Ministry of Magic used Dementors to guard the Prison of Azkaban, seeking a cheaper option to minimize spending for the leaders’ own gain.

Why is the Ministry of Magic against Harry?

Skeeter suggested Harry might use the Dark Arts to win the Triwizard Cup, but this was not effective. When Dumbledore informed the Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, that Harry’s story matched Barty Crouch Jnr’s, Fudge claimed Harry was unstable. The Daily Prophet began to mock Harry, portraying him as a deluded, attention-seeking person who believed he was a great tragic hero. Harry was unaware of the Ministry’s denial and did not read the entire Prophet to read the criticism.

On August 2, Harry and his cousin Dudley Dursley were attacked by Dementors in Little Whinging. Dementors were dispatched to Little Whinging on the orders of Senior Undersecretary to the Minister, Dolores Umbridge, without the knowledge of Minister Fudge. Umbridge claimed that the Ministry had been discrediting and silencing Harry, but no one was doing anything about it, so she ordered the Dementors out to Little Whinging.

What did Hermione do as Minister of magic?

After the Second Wizarding War, Hermione returned to Hogwarts to complete her education and later worked with the Ministry of Magic, promoting better treatment for house-elves. She later joined the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, eradicating outdated laws favoring pure-bloods. Hermione married Ron Weasley and had two children, Rose and Hugo. She became the godmother of Harry and Ginny Potter’s eldest son James and became the thirty-sixth Minister for Magic in 2019.

Born on September 19, 1979, to dentists, Hermione was named after her unique and special appearance. Her parents were proud and accepting of her, and they gave her a bedroom on the first floor of their house.

Hermione brought several other books for reference and furthered her understanding of the wizarding world, surpassing some of her pure-blood and half-blood classmates.

  • I don’t know what it is about this entire theme park, it’s either they are TRULY making it epic, or it’s gonna be different universes that no one and I mean NO ONE has seen before, from the Ministry Of Magic, to Isle Of Berk, to Super Nintendo World to Dark Universe, this will truly be and EPIC adventure!!!!

  • I love these people. This is just incredible. Epic Universe is so clearly full of love and dedication, it honestly has me blinking back tears. The floo system that actually works?? The full scale ministry of magic?? The show?? And then all of the other lands with all of the other details – it’s just amazing. I don’t know when I’ll be able to go to Epic Universe but I hope it’s sooner than later. I can’t wait to go. ❤

  • 4:39 So, basically: high stakes, a dangerous mission, an epic battle for the fate of the Wizarding World against familiar foes in a familiar setting and alongside old friends, AND I get to help Harry and his friends get some payback on Umbridge for her tyranny during Order of the Phoenix? grins Sounds like my kinda party! I cannot WAIT to take this ride on!!

  • I am so excited for Epic Universe. I’ve never been to Universal Orlando and now if the perfect time for me to go. I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited to go to any amusement park ever in my life. Not even Disney has ever managed to get me this excited. 2025 is going to be an amazing year. You all are doing amazing things.

  • The “Art Noveau”, fassade paintings, murals and decor inside “l’air de la sirène” and the whole french street design look utterly beautiful!! Truly artistic, planing, conceptual, architetural, and design MASTERPIECE and craft at work here! Kudos to the CREATIVE team behind this and maybe Stuart Craig! Most IMMERSIVE theme park design ever!

  • Those streets of Paris are certainly a gamble. Diagon Alley was built up throughout several books and movies as a key location in the lore. It is visited many times and viewed from several perspectives through Harry’s eyes: as a place of childhood whimsy of the first visit in Philosopher’s Stone, showing the first hint of a darker side to wizarding society in Chamber of Secrets, giving the taste of the wizarding world outside Hogwarts in Prisoner of Azkaban, being an indication of dark times and depression in Half-blood Prince, and finally the site of the heist in Deathly Hallows. It’s an iconic place the reader (and viewer!) is fully immersed in and gives a real sense of recognition between books and movies. Meanwhile, 1920’s Paris is visited in one scene in what is by far the most disjointed and messy of the films in the franchise. There’s one passing reference to one French wand shop in Goblet of Fire. That’s all the material the series gives to work with. No matter how excellent the execution, the place won’t have the same draw and recognition that Diagon Alley has, not to mention Hogsmeade. I have faith that they will manage to deliver some truly great rides, but in the long run I doubt it will rival the other two Potter locations for popularity.

  • Bought an islands of adventvure + universal annual pass just a few weeks ago. Maybe in a few years, when the thrill and excitement of universal epic tones down, ill buy a pass to that park too and enjoy it. 3 harry potter related parks, not sure about the other ones but this being announced on his birthday is so fitting, i am in love.

  • It looks great but it just seems weird to have both Fantastic Beasts and Potter in one land across two different time periods. Do they not know Floo Powder isn’t time travel? It’s clear they had to revert back to Potter after the Fantastic Beasts franchise flopped. Thematically it doesn’t make sense.

  • I live in Florida and can’t wait for this park to open. Have been to Universal and IOA so many times. They are great parks but it will be so nice to have something new to visit. Each land looks absolutely incredible. Meanwhile Disney is busy playing politics while Universal is quietly building their coffin.

  • Big L. There is a reason the Fantastic Beasts crashed after the first movie because the series wasn’t good. So you build a land in Paris? When you search for iconic places in The Wizarding World, is Paris listed anywhere? No. The Burrow, 12 Grimmauld Place, Azkaban, Malfoy Manor are just on every list. The Ministry is excellent! Harry on trial, Dumbledore vs. Voldermort, and then the 3 breaking back in while Umbridge is the Minister… oh wait, after the Dealthy Hallows? Wow, you missed.

  • Half a Century? When Walt Disney World opened 50 years ago (I was 12) it was unlike anything people had ever seen- a step change from the original. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, and the APEX of the Space Age. A sleek monorail sped you from an ordinary parking lot through the atrium of a giant hotel before depositing you before a quaint 20th century grand entrance and thence upon a main street of that era- complete with scents and sounds and sales. A center hub anchored the five lands, each with distinct, immersive, theming for the 1970’s. I remember telling mom “Look, they even themed the manhole covers!” But it was all based on 1950’s movie set design. One could easily expect to turn the corner and see a large old time film crew with their huge VistaVision™ cameras and that super flat stage lighting style of the day… Universal brought all of That into the Digital Age and I can’t wait. It will be Epic.

  • Even though the cast in the new ride would be waaaayyy over their age limit,Daniel is 35, Rupert is about 36 and Emma is 34,but it would be great to see what happened after the Battle of Hogwarts, even though it is not canon, because there is like zero content between after this event and the 19 years epilogue.

  • It looks most awesome indeed; and can’t wait to see Paris and all of its WW secrets; added plus, the Ministry of Magic too? (Side note, to the gamers: did anyone get a weird Deja vu with the rendering article and stills from Bioshock: Burial at Sea pt. 2 when Elizabeth goes to Paris? I had to go back and watch it again, just for that, lol)

  • I’ve seen a lot of comments talking about how this world is better than Galaxy’s Edge, aka “the correct way of making a land based of a beloved property”. It made me realize that Universal and Disney, while similar as theme parks, have two very different approaches to theme park design. Disney focuses on the concept of Immersion, of going into large amounts of detail not just in the actual construction, but also in regard to the backstory and how the cast members interact with the guests. The goal is to make the visitor feel the general VIBE of the world and also be CHARACTERS in their own story, hence why Galaxy’s Edge elected to create an entirely new planet and put its effort on trying to get the Star Wars vibe as opposed to simply recreating Mos Eisley or something. Universal on the other hand is focused on REPLICATING the property the world is based on. They will go out of their way to recreate iconic imagery and locations, and while the rides can have a basic backstory attached, it’s largely a vessel to get visitors to just interact with iconic characters regardless of things like canon…like how Wizarding World of Harry Potter has a ride that takes place in an undescribed time while Diagon Alley is supposedly set during Deathly Hallows. And I think a good reason why something like Wizarding World (and especially Ministry of Magic) is getting more instant praise compared to Galaxy’s Edge is because replication is in general instantly more satisfying to visiting while immersion takes extra effort.

  • I’ve spent 25 years enjoying Disney Parks and its iconic Magic and Kingdoms around the World. But, with some sadness, I do hope Disney is taking notes and actually I hope they are really worried about Epic. Disney needs Epic more than it knows. It will create the challenge that will hopefully reignite Disney to stop messing about, upsetting its guests, and providing a poor value product and show. I’m spending my 2025 money and time at Universal, whom in my opinion, are rightly sticking it to all the competition. I look forward to Universal coming to my home, the United Kingdom soon.

  • Okay this is too awesome and hilarious. Because right before I saw this I watched the watchmojo article of top 10 side characters more hated than the main villain and “spoilers” number 1 was Umbrige. And then I see this and the main attraction is about her facing Justice? I am sold. My life lately is being filled with coincidences. Wired but this is a cool one.

  • I think this is so so cool and I’d love to visit but I do kind of wonder why the Universal team doesn’t set their priority on making the Hogwarts castle interactive. Like why not build the full-size castle and offer people the opportunity to eat a meal in the Great Hall, see a quidditch game on the fields, explore the restricted section of the library, and maybe even sit in on some classes? Personally I would pay way more to live like a Hogwarts student for a day than I would to go on these rides.

  • i think a little “toontown” style wizarding village will be great. it doesnt have to be accurate (as in these buildings not actually within a same village in the story) along the street we can goes inside: -the burrow -lunas home -malfoy manor -cottage shell -grimmauld place -st Mungo -azkaban -lilys and james house after voldemorts attack etc. maybe next expansion?. 🙏🙏🙏

  • I am seriously going to have a hard time deciding on which ride I want to do first since pretty much every area has a “Must see” attraction lol. So yeah, this is a small reason why I am going to wait and hear feedback from others because I want to find out about the lines. Last year I finally got some Ravenclaw stuff just so I can be prepped for this land though lol.

  • This is a nitpick but the interesting thing about Umbridge is she wasn’t a Death Eater/Voldemort supporter but she was still an antagonist to our main characters. There’s even a line where Dumbledore tells Harry “the world isn’t separated into good people and Death Eaters”. Ah whatever it’s just a ride
