A blocked root chakra can cause over-activeness in the upper chakras, leading to an excess of energy in the lower chakras. This can manifest as an overactive imagination, abundance of ideas without action, or excessive verbality. The root chakra has four nadia (energy channels) that connect us to the subtle energies of creation and earth. Each chakra corresponds to a color and a certain vibration, with Muladhara having the lowest vibration.
A blocked root chakra not only creates an imbalance in energy flow throughout the body but also instigates feelings of anxiety and fear. It is important to maintain a balanced energy flow to avoid physical and emotional symptoms such as chronic pain, fatigue, anxiety, and depression. Techniques and practices to unblock the root chakra include increasing distractibility, rushing from one task to another, feeling exhausted or lethargic, and increased feelings of anxiety.
Emotionally, a blocked root chakra imbalance can lead to feelings of insecurity, fear, anxiety, and a lack of energy flow and trust in oneself and the world. It can also result in a disconnection from primal energy in one’s body and inability to feel grounded or safe. A blocked heart chakra can show up as a lack of forgiveness, repressed anger and rage, lack of empathy and gratitude, or lacking emotion.
A blocked or imbalanced root chakra can lead to feelings of insecurity, anxiety, stress, and a loss of personal bearings. Psychological symptoms of blockage include anxiety disorders, fear, panic attacks, worry, overthinking, depression, nightmares, and emotional distress. In summary, a blocked root chakra can lead to mental, emotional, and physical issues in one’s life. It is crucial to address these issues by practicing techniques and practices to balance and restore the root chakra.

What trauma blocks the root chakra?
Root Chakra traumas are deeply rooted experiences that challenge our sense of security and physical survival. These traumas stem from the belief that life is an unsafe place, with specific root chakra traumas focusing on physical survival, such as diseases, near-death experiences, violent attacks, abuse, natural disasters, financial struggles, and displacement. These traumas lead to a victim mentality, fearing harm and seeking a predictable life. Anxiety manifests as specific phobias and resistance to change, shaping our worldview.
Sacral Chakra traumas arise from our willingness to embrace life’s powerful experiences and indulge in forbidden pleasures. These traumas stem from daring to fully immerse ourselves in moments that ultimately result in disaster, turning excitement and fulfillment into deep hurt and disappointment. Adventures and peak experiences can turn life-threatening, and contact with pleasure can lead to profound pain. Traumatic sexual encounters, including abuse, can leave our sexual organs and psyche scarred, fostering irrational beliefs connecting sexuality with pain and punishment.
The unbalanced sacral chakra instills the notion that living fully is dangerous, leading to fear of intense experiences, risky adventures, passionate emotions, and uninhibited sexuality. This avoidance of life’s most potent moments can manifest as depression, creative stagnation, sexual dysfunction, addiction, obsessive desires, and an aversion to ecstasy and overflowing joy.
What emotions are blocked by root chakra?
Those with a blocked root chakra frequently exhibit symptoms such as anxiety, fear-driven patterns, chaotic energy, and financial instability. These issues can impede overall well-being and hinder growth and development.
How do you unblock the root chakra?
Shaktidas posits that straightforward practices such as walking in nature and gardening can facilitate the unblocking of the root chakra. Christensen proposes that one may achieve this connection with the physical body through the practice of yoga, Pilates, dance, or outdoor activities. The practice of yoga asana, when combined with conscious breathing, represents a highly effective and dynamic approach to working with the root chakra. Another method for establishing a connection with the root chakra is through footwork.
What is the root chakra responsible for?
The root chakra, represented by red, is the first physical chakra and is responsible for our sense of stability and security. When in harmony, it connects us to nature and allows us to flow with life. Conversely, when it’s out of harmony, we experience fear-based thoughts, feel unsafe, and worry about meeting our basic needs. To harness the root chakra’s power, grounding is a practice that builds security and stability in our mind, body, and spirit.
Grounding techniques help focus on the present moment and remove distressing thoughts, flashbacks, and negative emotions. Amanda Baker, founder of Rum and Quartz, has rounded up nine grounding techniques to help you center yourself and take care of yourself.
How to awaken root chakra?
Grounding practices, such as walking barefoot on grass, deep breathing in nature, chanting, lighting incense sticks or essential oils, and meditation outdoors, can help activate the Root Chakra, which is associated with grounding, stability, and a sense of security. Open Root Chakras allow energy to flow freely, promoting a sense of safety, connection, and confidence. Overactive Muladharas can induce panic, anxiety, and fear. To maintain balance, yoga practices are recommended, with online classes like Shvasa’s offering certified yoga teachers teaching various practices.
The root chakra, also known as the Muladhara chakra, is associated with grounding, stability, and a sense of security. Poses that focus on the lower body and connection with the earth are particularly beneficial. Mountain Pose (Tadasana) is an excellent grounding pose, while Warrior I and II pose (Virabhadrasana I and II) engage the legs and promote stability. Bridge Pose (Setu Bandhasana) and Child’s Pose (Balasana) help ground and release tension in the hips and lower back. Seated poses like Lotus Pose (Padmasana) and Easy Pose (Sukhasana) encourage a connection with the earth, fostering stability and support.
What if root chakra is blocked?
A blocked Muladhara Chakra can cause instability, distraction, and increased stress, anxiety, and depression. It can lead to rushing, exhaustion, and feeling stuck. Balancing the Root Chakra can help maintain calmness and channel steady energy throughout the body, dissipating stress and worries about belonging, relationships, and purpose. To balance the Root Chakra, one can learn holistic yoga from India’s best, receive personalized feedback, and attend classes that are perfect for them. How do you fix a blocked chakra?
The seven major chakras, which extend from the spine to the head, can be adversely affected by toxic environments and stress, resulting in physical or emotional symptoms. The yogic tradition posits that meditation, breathing exercises, and specific yoga poses can facilitate the restoration of chakra balance.
What harms the root chakra?
The Etheric body and adrenals are directly linked to the root chakra, which can become blocked when the body is in fight-or-flight mode. This can be triggered by fear of change or feeling secure, causing hormones to malfunction. To address this issue, it is important to focus on positive affirmations such as being a divine being of light, peaceful, protected, and secure. A group meditation focused on the root chakra was also curated by Founder Falli Shah.
Why would my root chakra be blocked?
The Muladhara chakra, also known as the root support, is located in the coccyx and is responsible for regulating our physical energies. It is a vital part of our mental state and emotional well-being, and without balancing it, higher chakras cannot be healed or unblocked.
The root chakra is associated with various forms of trauma, such as anxiety disorders, fear, panic attacks, worry, overthinking, depression, nightmares, emotional disconnectedness, anger/rage, and eating disorders. It governs our physical energies, providing us with a sense of safety and security. To balance the root chakra, gemstones like garnet, red jasper, black tourmaline, and bloodstone can be placed on the area while lying down or worn.
Physical exercise, nutrition, and connecting to the earth through activities like walking barefoot on the grass and gardening can help balance the root chakra. Healing vibrations and sound baths with specific frequencies can bring the Chakras into balance, and when these are in balance, so is our mind and emotions.
Asanas, such as Pavanamuktasana, Janu Sirsansana, Padmasana, Malasana, Tadasana, Shavasana, and Virabhadrasana I, can help remove blockages and balancing the root chakra. Movement meditation can also help ground you and connect you to a higher spiritual plane.
Psychotherapy modalities include interpersonal, psychodynamic, Object Relations, and Contemplative for root cause(s) and integration for healing, as well as Reiki-Tummo energy healing. Essential oils like sandalwood, rosewood, rosemary, black pepper, cedar, clove, ginger, frankincense, and myrrh can also be used to support the root chakra.
In summary, the Muladhara chakra plays a crucial role in our mental states and emotions, and maintaining its balance is essential for overall well-being. By incorporating various techniques and essential oils, we can create a more balanced and secure environment for ourselves and others.

I am just about half way through the article and I am so stunned by the energy that rises throught the screen. You are an absolute goddess! Love, love, love! Thank you so much for your articles. Every single one of them comes in the right time. Feel like we two are so connected! Just thank you so much. You are truly beautiful being, that’s for sure.
Affirmations are a great way to help better your mood, I was very skeptical and thought nothing would help my depressive state of mind, or help me find some type of motivation. I try this every night before going to bed and little by little I have noticed a positive change. I still struggle to stay positive but it has helped me so much, and I will continue to try to change the low vibration that I’m currently in. Thank you star another great article like always.😊💝
Star, thank you SOOOO much for this! I learned that I definitely have this issue (blocked) as you described me to a T! In my lack of will to even carry on I had no idea this affliction could be worked on and improved so easily, and I thank you for giving me knowledge, and practical information! You are an angel, and so very wise for your years.
OMG thank u so much for making this article!! I can’t believe that ALL of the signs u described were exactly what I’ve been experiencing.. I’m definitely gonna be using your tips to try and find balance.. I would definitely love for u to do more articles about all of the chakra points the way u did this one..MUCH LOVE AND INFINITE BLESSINGS TO YOU MY FRIEND
This article is amazing, girl! You have helped me just by allowing me to realize what I kind of already knew. We need to feed our bodies positivity and in order to do that, our bellies must be full. I was not eating well and I have found if I have even a banana or a granola bar for breakfast, my energy is upped so high and I have started to love myself again. Thank you for this! You have gained a subby for life. 🤗 Blessed be😚✌️💕☮️
I’ve found for an overactive root chakra that red jasper, calcite, tourmaline are great for calming it down. Whereas for an underactive root chakra stones like ruby, fire agate, red tiger’s eye tend to be great at bringing that energy up. I think if you can find a red tourmaline it would be best since tourmalines are stones all about balance.
Ooh, that explains so freakin much. I suffered abuse from my aunt and uncle and their 10 kids after she promised me she’d give me a real family when i was 8. This is explains literally explains me completely, I practically live in my room, I don’t have any friends, I get yelled at by not eating properly and losing weight, I could go on and on. This is me. Thank you for all the information and I will work to fix my root chakra
One way I know my root chakra has had issues is when there were financial issues. Because when I’d meditate on it, a random windfall would come in. Growing up my mom and I did go to food banks. Now that my finances are going well (which they hadn’t for awhile) I make sure to keep check or my feelings with spending. You’re allowed to treat yourself, responsibly! 💅🏻
I don’t know that my root chakra is blocked until I see this article. I just know that my lower back is sooooooo painful that I want to lie down and don’t want to leave my bed, and event I lie on my bed for hours my back still doesn’t get better. Thanks for you article, I would try some way to fix this. Love you
I had an under active root chakra for almost seven years and had dreads in my hair almost all the time because I didn’t have the energy to take a shower or brush my hair. I haven’t had friends and I’m still having a hard time making them now because of how drained my root chakra was. I really had no will to live. In the past year since finding my new boyfriend he’s been able to help teach me to take care of myself and I’m slowly getting a lot better.
This reminds me of inner child healing. I’ve been hypnotized and was able to interact with myself as a child. I haven’t done much more work because I’m having trouble meditating. I thought I had a food addiction, but it’s more so that I’m not connected to my inner child. I guess I have an over active root chakra. I wonder how connected these two things are. This is really cool and eye opening. I think it’s a sign that I need to continue healing myself.
ThankYOU so much for your help and advice! Not just for me, but on behalf of my sisters and brothers that watch your website as well! You’re articulate, intelligent, to the point(which I love!) and down to earth! Not to mention gorgeous! I love your vids, I appreciate your help so much! Much love and light to you 💖 Edit: I watched a recent vid you did earlier today answering your veiwers questions about you, and a certain part of your story resonated with me very deeply, and it gave me the final push I needed to follow my passion as well…so that’s why I just had to Thankyou! ☺️💖
Wow … thank you for those tips!!! My root chakra has been blocked all my life, since I was a child. It meant suffering a lot. Have to do lots of sports and earthing meditations, there are good ones, also akkupressure. However one thing is different/contrary with me to what you said: I use enjoyment of food and sometimes overeating in an attempt to earth myself and overcome the incomfortability in my body. I then really can feel my soul sliding a tiny bit more into my body. But that brings other problems. Eating more and the wrong stuff brings toxins into my body which are not tolerated by my hypersensitive constitution.
i have fibromalgya, and feel like i have under acctive root chakra, im resonating with that fully.. but i also binge eat, i collect things, i cant stop spending, but i also believe i have “bipolar” disorder, i feel both right now, so i dont know what to think or do right now, the retrogrades are kicking my ass, my body feels like an under active one but my emotions are over active :/
My root chakra is definitely blocked and also it’s producing little bit way too much energy. It’s definitely blocked because low confidence, lack of self belief, anxiety, fears, lack of focus, self hate, think about the lowest of the lowest, negative thoughts, no money, growth, no friends, no society status, diseases. Father is suffering depression, physicotic symptoms, sister is a special child (Suffering mind problem), uncle is suffering with mind problem too. So, preety much everything is blocked from everywhere. I am trying to fix the things. It’s true I’m also a negative person. But, no more because I’m trying to be consistent, positive and I also spend my time with nature. Some how I am also suffering and victim of all this. My root chakra is definitely blocked. That’s for sure.
I looked this up because not only do I have most every symptom you described for underactive root chakra. I also have for about half a year been getting this quick passing cool almost wet sensation where my root chakra is located. I thought about it, the root chakra is associated with the spine, which medically speaking (the spine) is associated with the nerves. I.e. a pinched nerve in the spine can cause leg numbness, which I’ve been having on and off for about 6 years. BUT all medical reports have found nothing. This year has been one of the most challenging painful years I have ever lived to see. I don’t feel like I’ve had a moment of rest cause Even when my body was resting my mind was in overdrive. Almost constant mental agony. Terrible intrusive anxiety, overwhelming panic attacks and fear of EVERYTHING. I lost almost all of my possessions all I worked so hard for 😔 Prayed and prayed… morning and night and all day long, praying to God. Finally 98% overcame the panic attacks. I lost my apartment was homeless had to move into my little niece’s room, sleeping on an air mattress on the floor. All I had left was my car., so I could get around, get food, look for work. I was up till 3a.m. most days studying soooo hard for my cdl permit. Got up super early to take the test, my final allowable attempt before I need to pay again, 35 minutes after I FINALLY passed it, I drive down the road and a car slams into me, completely destroying my car the last thing I had left, I was stuck at my Brothers house, no transportation, no money, in debt every direction I turn.
People use to walk all over me and I stood up for myself. . I use to want to sleep and not want to do anything. I had an eating disorder and BDD, I didn’t care about my appearance. (I do now) . I definitely don’t do drugs but I use to buy things a lot but now I budget. . I do get anxious but I do help people but I don’t like when people borrow my things. . I have been using the law of attraction to help me within myself. And it’s working well for me. . As a kid I worried about money because I didn’t have much. But now I am comfortable. . Red stones hey, I’ll remember that. I have a Red Cross with red stones on it. . Self hate was something I suffered with for years and the last few days I’ve been overlooking it. I do Zumba once a week and I eat right. . I love going out in nature too but where I live I’ve lost touch with nature and it makes me sad.
star your awsome i just started perusal and you have been so helpful!… i had to pause this article .. i said some prayers and for some reason an image of a ruby and gold price of jewelry came into my head…. i started perusal and it was the same price you just showed…. i guess the universe has spoken!!
I definitely know someone with this kind of imbalance. She has too much. She is always on edge defending herself and very quick tempered. She also over eats and has body issues. She is also very jealous of others and likes to put someone down for their success and right it off so she feels better. Eg. “People only like her because she is young and thin.” “People only respect him because he is a man” “no one ever taught me this, so it’s their fault I don’t know it”. I feel very sorry for her and I wish I could help… I wish she could see that she has a lot of good qualities like wit, and generosity that make her very loveable to others-but it her aggressive behaviour and negativity that turns others away, not her faults or what she doesn’t have compared to others.
Omg…my root chakra must be extremely extremely inactive, I have all the symptoms so severely I can’t even leave my room not even for food and tons of adults broke my trust in childhood (parents, teachers, strangers etc.) it’s completely changed my life for the worse but now I know how to fix it for the better c:
Oh, fuck. My root chakra is overactive and now I understand the reason to why I am ruining my own life and blocking people away. There are so many things that I want to do in my life and get that good feeling, but that I can’t do in the situation where I am right now, which leads to me just getting the good feelings from alcohol, because that is easy to get. And It is a dangerous feeling that I want to try to die, to know how it feels. Haha, I am crazy.. I just want to experience so much and do so much, but I am just stuck in this place.
Honestly I think my root chakra is blocked and has been for a really long time. I’ve had depression for a long time and I can feel in my soul that my life is at a turning point but I have no idea what to do.. so much is happening and I’m going downhill fast. Maybe this can help, I truly hope so. I’m trying to become more confident and healthy. Thank you for your articles ❤
The only symptoms I have are lower back pain and trouble manifesting wealth. But these two symptoms are excessive in my life. But I am exercisung…practicing xogs…meditating and saying affirmations..I also incorporate red fruits and clothing in my routine. It has helped me tremendously!!!! Good article
Hello, I commented a while back on your twin flame article, I was commenting about how weird the timing of your article was cause I was going through a lot of confusion with my friend possibly being my twin flame. Your reading pointed to him and the first day of the new year we ended up coming together. Now I’ve been experiencing a lot of headaches and weird vision and more and just yesterday I discovered my root chakra was possibly blocked. It’s been like this for a month andi came across this article now posted a month ago. Your timings of your articles are always synced up with me.
This is great because my root chakra is blocked, it looks like a little red dot. What you described is totally me. I’m so miserable in life, always broke (like literally. It’s not that I’m over thinking it, i don’t make much money but can’t find a better job) I’m so blah. No care to do anything or barely do my hair really. I even bought an Aventurine necklace and actually have less money now. I also wear a red jasper necklace to help but no changes yet i will google like you said 🙂
I swear all of my chakaras are screwed. I feel like my root once is screwed up because my parents kicked me out, deny and won’t accept that I’m mentally different (need moderate assistance in the world because autism). But yet they let my sister just live with them and not work and do anything. Its not fair. But all the signs you’ve showed say heck yes to having a blockage. EDIT: Is it possible to swing from too much to too little root chakra balance
yup my root chakra is definitely under active but also somewhat overactive w the sexual desires and distrustful, and aggressive. I’m always worrying about money and struggling to manifest. So fearful to even say affirmations. I experience intense stomach problems and have had back problems and pain in my thighs
Under active/overactive root chakra. My mom had it to the point where she developed cancer twice, and the second time she passed. I have it too, I have sciatica that continuously comes back. My body is practically screaming at me to love myself. And you were spot on about the eating disorder lol fuccckkkk and my damn student loans. Wtffffffffff I need to unfuck myself damn. I AM SAFE. I AM GRATEFUL. I AM GROUNDED. I AM HEALED. I AM LEARNING 💖🦋🙏🏽♐️🕉✨
Damn Star, were you spying on me? Talk about great timing. I’m going through it right now. I found out this week I’m dealing with a bladder fistula, and have been having lower body pain; also, been feeling weak spiritually. I’ve been going back and forth about leaving my job, and looking. I’ll watch this again, and look at ideas that can help with these issues.
Hi Stargirl, I have listened to a few of your articles and although you sound very smart and interesting, me and my friend were wondering where did you get all this information from? You know people tell you certain things because they said those things based on the facts, their experiences, or they tell you how they know about these things and that’s how people will be more convinced, people who have logic & are grounded. I’m just curious…
i want to start learning how to be a witch, like using crystals, tarot cards and spells but i’m not quite sure where to start or what books to read, do you think you could give me some advice? i love your articles, they just appeared on my recommended one day, i watch all kinds or tarot card reads and i’ve never felt better. :3
Hmm…interesting. I’ve always dislike red color stone or any red clothing since teenage (I used to like red when I was a kid, now that I think back was before my parents divorced), not until recently, after I literally transform my body (Lost a bunch of weight) and did a lot of inner work, now I like to wear red lipstick 💄 and I starting to like red coral beads for bracelet. I think my root chakra is getting balance as I did my inner work and work on myself gradually. As within so without, it is true.
Wish I could do awesome articles like this ha ha so informative and the visual guides photos etc, really help bring the point home. I know this takes so much time to put this together too. People have no clue how much work goes into making just a ten minute article. So thank you. Ohh I got some crystals thanks to some of your teachings and they really do help to change your mind set. Ha ha I listen to brainwaves as well and if you message me I will tell you one of the secrets of APF that i have never revealed to ANYONE………
Girrlll this is what i was thinking abouut a few days ago bc im sun in libra, moon and rising aries, venus and mercury in libra, AND mars in scorpio. So i basically have every element Except for earth which i can understand fully earth is grounded which i can say i need to work on immensely lol love ur vidsss ♡♡♡
Hiiii! I have a question hopefully you can partially answer for me! I feel like my whole life I’ve always had either an overactive OR an under active floor chakra! I have the side effects of both at different times but I just feel like I’ve never been truly balanced. Is this possible to have such a fluctuation?? Or could it be other chakras? Hopefully that made sense but I consider you my spiritual guide at this point and don’t know who else to ask! Thanks for the article and hopefully you’re feeling all the positive sag energy going around lately 💛💛💛
How do chakras relate to mental illnesses? cause a lot of those symptoms for both over and underactive root chakra are also signs of borderline personality disorder and depression. I have borderline myself, which also comes from neglect and/or abuse as a child and I can relate to pretty much everything you said. Im sure a balanced root chakra can make it a lot easier but do you think a mental illness like that can be cured ? Im not sure. Recently I’ve been awakening further and I’ve come to many realisations and let go of limiting beliefs but I am still a very rational thinker, so its hard to let go of ‘scientific’ proof of like in this case an illness that is said to be uncurable, while the other side of me thinks that literally all of our problems could dissapear if we just started to work on those chakras and meditate and did all that stuff that leads to enlightenment. I know its a long comment but I’d be glad for any responses from stargirl or whoever.
What If I have mixed signs of both underactive and overactive? sometimes at the same time. I feel very tired, I set too many boundaries but also I cant stand for myself I feel drained of energy and tired most of the time And I used to have very bad body image and self image but now it’s a bit better. I do everything to take care of myself every night I take baths, meditate, write things down, workout, dance etc Yet I am drained when around ppl Also overly agressive and anxious
also, you chakra cannot be overactive. if you opened up and activated all of your chakras you would be working at an optimal level, full of power, love, wisdom and strangth. it is like saying you can have too healthy hair 🙂 ”One thing we need to get out of the way before continuing is that people in the spiritual field have become preoccupied with the idea of balance. They try to achieve equilibrium through control. An adjunct to this idea is the concept that chakras can be too closed or too open. As it applies to the heart chakra, you’ll hear theories going around that a heart chakra can be too open or active and this is what creates weak boundaries and co-dependant relationships. Though logical, this is inaccurate. If your chakras are fully open you will experience your being naturally coming into equilibrium. And weak boundaries have much more to do with trauma that effects the solar plexus chakra and sacral chakra.” – Teal Swan
My dad was super bad with my mom and I, he almost kill us literally, until I do the decision to put him in jail the things get a little bit better, I was on depression, tried to kill myself twice, so I am working on it, eat well (vegan), I am doing some yoga to connect myself with Earth, doing some grounding, I will buy some red crystals, I will do more exercise, thanks you!!!! Hugs from Chile 🇨🇱💖
I have a question, open to all with kindness… I’ve been working diligently on myself, mind body and soul, for quite some time. Root chakra became a focus not too long ago and recently I became ill for several days. I understand it’s flu season but this was not the flu. And without getting too gross, yes every bit of my body has purged, including my sinuses. My decades long tinnitus is quiet as a mouse. My back and hip pain gone. Muscle spasms have stopped. Neurological problems have paused (a cold breeze felt like daggers piercing into my bones). I’m diagnosed with a chronic illness and other body ailments… But do people get these types of physical reactions after working with their chakras? Whether it be pain relief or nausea? Anyone’s insight or experience would be greatly appreciated. Love and Blessings ❤❤❤
My root chakra has been outta balance since a young age i guess 😆 in fact all my chakras have been.. I’ve been through some serious shit.. The shit i can’t explain to anyone about. The shit that’s hard to find in common with other people. But i do wish to find someone who has been through the same shit like me.. Cuz I really really wanna fucking connect with my soul family now. Ain’t got no time for being triggered by shit people.
Hey I really hope you see my comment and I guess if it’s meant to be it will happen. I trust my intuition very much I have always been a very sensitive person, I can know things about people just from a feeling. My most said phrase is probably “I don’t know I just have a feeling» Okay now that I’ve said all that The problem is that I have a chronic illness I’ve had it for 6 years and I just don’t understand if all of this with karma and energy is true why is all of this happening to me? Did I do wrong In a past life? I hope you feel my sincerity and help me understand
