What does God say about omens?

• A few thoughts on Leviticus. The passage that caught my eye was 19:26 “You shall not interpret omens.” There’s a form of this that is common among Christians who go through life trying to read the will of God out of daily circumstances or events. You hear it in Christian jargon. We describe what appear to be favorable circumstances as “open doors” and try to feel at ease moving forward, assuring ourselves that the easier or clearer path must be what God intends for us. In fact, there’s nothing in Scripture that encourages us to do this. And besides, we’re never 100% sure we’re doing the right thing and often have the lingering fear that we are “out of God’s will” (which again is more jargon than theology).

• Take heart: the Lord rests his favor on you by virtue of your faith in the atoning work of Jesus Christ. And if God gave us his own son, “will he not graciously with him give us all things?” (Rom 8:32). We cannot increase or decrease his favor by reading the circumstances of our lives because his favor is not grounded in our ability to discern the omens, but in Christ’s loving you and giving himself for you.

• So, what should you do? Make the best decision possible, given what you know, and move on. God does not hold you accountable for what he hasn’t revealed to you. This is the reasoning of James 4:17, “whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” Sure, you must examine your motives honestly. What’s driving you? What are you so worried about? You should be careful to bring Scripture to bear on your decision to the greatest extent possible. Scripture is God’s plainly revealed will. You should be constant in prayer. But at some point, with only partial knowledge, you will have to pull the trigger. You are safe because you are the child of God, not because you successfully interpreted the omens. Augustine used to say, with precisely this sort of dilemma in mind, “Love God and do what you please.” Good counsel.

  • In my culture (Serbian, also in Bosnia and some Balkan countries) broken glasses means joy. It came from the habit of glass braking when parting, especially when live traditional music is played. So if someone is pissed and emotionally touched by the song or event, it is absolutely culturally acceptable to brake glasses. So, dear people, get drunk with friends, invite a good band, poo vine into a cheap glasses and enjoy!

  • Hey, what does it mean if glass keep breaking in my house? This has been happening for 5 days. Started on Christmas. I have 3 daughters, literally everyone in the house broke a glass this week (within the 5 days starting on Christmas) one daughter was helping me cook on Christmas and broke the cinnamon glass bottle, later on that day my oldest daughter opened the fridge and a mason jar fell out and broke, the next day I was doing dishes and a glass cup fell off counter, day after that I was cleaning my bathroom and picked up my makeup organizer and my toner for my skincare fell and shattered, and lastly yesterday my kids friends came over and somehow a glass cup got broke in their room. This is so weird to me because it just randomly started happening on Christmas and the fact that ALL FOUR OF US in the house ACCIDENTALLY broke glass back to back is so crazy to me and it’s freaking me out. I’ve read that it could be something good and I’ve also read that it could be something bad coming so I’m nervous.

  • This whole month of February I’ve been breaking glass cups and a plate, today I broke another one so now I’m here. And I’ve been a bit depressed and thinking a lot about my bf. And when I first broke a glass I automatically thought of “maybe I’m obsessing too much and need to deal with what I’m feeling personally” but I was still a bit upset bc I still can’t help but negatively think about him. That night and still till this day (although I’m very much feeling better and happy) I’m thinking and weighing the options to just end it with him or try to speak with him but it’s hard since we barely talk (which is the reason why the idea of ending it is coming in my head in the first place). We have a long distance relationship and before he moved we were good and happy and now it’s only a month since he left and it’s like everything went down hill very quickly. And he’s not the type of guy that spends time on social media either. He’s very old school and a bit of an old but gentle soul. I still live him though and it’s hard for me to let something go that I really love 😓💔

  • Ok here’s my situation. I had three glasses for three black candles. One for absorbing negative vibes currently surrounding me, one for repelling and binding negative attacks currently being sent to me, and the third is for my toxic ex that won’t let me go, to banish all the negative energies from MY own energy and ancestral protection. They all burned down at the same time, tall and steady flames, minimum flickering and when I got out the shower and checked, all candles were gone with no trace or barely any residue, and the third glass had a good chunk cracked clean off the side. these are thick glass tealight holders so I was shocked to see it. I’m assuming my spell worked and I broke some type of bad magick. Not too sure so if u have any advice I would appreciate it! Ty ☺️✌️🧿

  • I broke up with the person I was dating about a week ago quietly after a big argument two days before that argument. Yesterday while I was cleaning my place, I decided to reach out to him to give him an advice for his son sharing a website. In my relationship section (Feng Shui) In this section, I have a small piece of decoration that is made up of two couple figures on the same base one for a groom & bride inside a ball glass containing water, and the other couple leaning at each other while male is playing guitar outside next to the water ball. In less than ten minutes, I the water ball broke and both of the groom’s & the bride’s heads were cut off completely, and I couldn’t even find the heads in my house, I am sure I will find the heads one day, but it was scary and I felt that this was a big message. I honestly didn’t understand and kept wondering all day long and finally found your article. Even though he replied respectfully to my text message and we were good, I found him posting a story with a song that he giving the message that he is relieved and feel happy than before. I didn’t except him to do, bc he never posts stories or I never even that he cares about this relationship, and that’s why the argument happened in the first place. Anyways, I saw the story and deleted his number and decided to never reach out again regardless of all the respect & love I carried for him, his reaction really shocked me because he is not that person that likes to express his feelings or even do these kind of social media stories (I am talking about a 44 years old man) Your article kinda answered my question since yesterday, but I still don’t get it….

  • For 2 weeks every day somthing breaks in kitchen somtimes whil im waching dishes a glass breaks in my hand i just …did not give attention to it .. now things at home are falling from shelf alone .. i feel a ghost wants to communicate with me …it did happen before a ghost of 13 years old boy wanted me to free him.. .that boy used glass turn it on table .. this one i dont know .. what to do .. i put the glass on reverse on table twice .. i guess im not ready to recieve his messages

  • Yesterday i was between sleep amd wake and all of a sudden heard glass cracking or branches cracking as if someone is standing on them. I jump up in fright looking around the bedroom i was so scared. Then I dose back off to sleep and heard it more clearly like if the ground beneath me was going to shatter to open up, can someone please tell what this mean? I have never experience nothing like this before.

  • Not exactly what I’m experiencing….. but I keep finding random broken pieces of glass around the house like first it started with my backpack (WHICH I LITERALLY HAVE NEVER PUT ANY PEICE OF GLASS IN THIS BACKPACK SINCE I GOT IT) and then on my bed like literally I felt something on my forehead and I touched it then it was a piece of glass!?! Like I’m so confused…

  • I broke two glass jars with food this week one on Tuesday and one on Friday in two different stores. Never broken any glass jars in my life. Turned out as bad omen because my parents are fighting with me and I no longer want to talk to them anymore. They had a history of fighting with me my entire life.

  • I have been breaking a ridiculous amount of glass that it’s driving me insane now it’s just become the normal yep I’ve broken another glass I’m gonna recount backwards of when what I’ve broken today i broke my rayban glasses the lense cracked. yesterday I broke a glass photo frame 2 days before my foot kicked the glass full of water from coffee table. the week before that I smashed 2 litres glass jar full of water on my bedroom side table that one cut me bad as I quickly tried to pick up the glass before the water touch any powerpoints. Was a big mess. Before that my electric toothbrush stays in glass it charges my toothbrush I dropped that and the glass went all over my foot in the bathroom vanity. I had to come on YouTube to figure out what the hell is going on in my life why are ridiculous amount of glasses breaking around me so many situations have happened but those are the big ones that I remembering on the top of my head. A lot more has broken just can’t remember them all.

  • I was wearing No Shoes on the beach once and one time my friend when I had bear feet accidentally knocked me and my foot went right through a glass bottle that my friends family had to carry me because there was glass in my foot and And I got home I had to put the tap on in the bath tub and rinse my foot out

I beleive in universal signs,I feel alot of pain and greif for some people I don’t even know, it’s really like I feel their pain and I cry nights to fight it out, the imagination surpasses every level If you can deduce anything, please let me know 🙂 Thanks for your article.
