I am a conservative. I believe conservative ideals will save this country. Having said that, I vehemently oppose project 2025. As was said by a previous commenter, I don’t want these ideals forced on anybody. In their literature, they say that winning elections isn’t enough. If I remember correctly, the Heritage Foundation back in the Reagan years pushed social engineering the change in our tax code to promote marriage and punish us single people in having to pay a higher rate. That’s not the government’s job. Then, along with ALEC, with the help of Reagan, led the deregulation of the banking industries, we had a crash in the late 80s and subsequent one’s since. They also started chipping away at the progressive tax system. We barely had a national debt until all of this. Then they led the charge to weaken the Glass-Seagall Act in 1999, among other things, opening the door for toxic mortage- backed securities leading to the big crash in 2008. The latest coup was the 2017, 40% tax cut for corporations, further increasing our debt.
Project 2025 legitimately scares me. We should keep in mind that even if the next president is not a republican, the next one or the one after that could be and all they need to do is to dust this plan off and maybe make some minor adjustments to it. I worry that we will see this enacted at some point.
This is what packing the Supream court was all about. That was the beginning! People need to stand up now. otherwise we are all screwed. I am old, so if I get killed in their civil war they want then at least I have lived my life. But my grandchildren should be afforded the same rights I grew up with. One of the problems I have with the 180 Day Playbook is that there seems to be a lot of emphasis on undoing the previous administrations policies. The implication here is there won’t be any regard for the merit of the policy. It’ll be reversed arbitrarily just because it was implemented by the opposing party.

I appreciate this website. I like how you consolidate information without seeming to present a bias. Financially I tend to lean more conservatively, and I am a Christian and I am almost entirely pro-life (with a few niche exceptions), however these are my personal beliefs and America is about freedom to have disagreement. Project 2025 definitely sounds tyrannical and I’m not surprised that even Trump disavowed it. Democrat or Republican, any reasonable person would see this as a gross abuse of power if it got pushed through. Especially that religion part of it. As a Christian, I will say that a separation of Church and State is better for both the Church and the State. Don’t preach politics and don’t politically suppress nor endorse religion. It opens up too much potential for the hatred, division, and identity politics we’re seeing today.
Perhaps the word “conservative” should be replaced by the word “authoritarian”. There is quite a lot in this blueprint that political conservatives of 20 or 30 years ago would find repugnant. Reagan tried something similar but not as far reaching. He would appoint people to agencies who were opposed to the work of that agency. e.g., an oilman in charge of the Environmental Protection Agency. The oilman’s, that is of course, the agency’s advice was always anti-EPA and the President could say “Well, the EPA says it wants this.”
This is presented so calmly and matter-of-factly that unless a person is paying attention to what you’re saying, what’s actually in the plan, the danger of it all might get missed. For example, saying that personnel will be chosen who support the agenda, is skimming over what is actually the plan here. This is not about hiring qualified people with a strong background in government and strong knowledge of politics. This is about choosing to hire those who already agree with the “agenda” that you mention here. It could be anyone as long as they’re willing to go along with whatever the president wants. This ensures no push back or argument or reasoned logic. I’ve worked with people before who use being agreeable as a replacement for skill and knowing what they’re doing. This is a Mark Twain type action of getting others to paint the fence that Tom Sawyer will get paid for. Convince the uneducated that it’s to their benefit to just do what they’re told.
I’m a young teen. My parents will move out of the USA if this passes. I have friends from school who already have a ready button to leave if this happens. I don’t want to leave everything behind, but we are genuinely scared of what will happen if trump and this project passes. I don’t hate either side, I hate the people in government. I’m a Christian conservative. I’ve major concerns over abolishing abortion. Making abortion limited or illegal altogether will only create a garage industry out of abortion where we will see the re emergence of back ally and basement abortion clinics across the country. As per a moral right or wrong? The damage was done many, many years ago. Going backward will only make the issue much, much worse, and not only see the number of abortions to remain the same but add additional deaths of women seeking abortion from illegal clinics. We are at an empasant and should do anything to avoid making the situation worse. Make 3rd trimester abortions illegal again and possibly reduce the number of abortions an individual can get to reduce abortions as birth control. I think any life lost is abhorrent, but I just can’t support risking more lives in an attempt to save them. This seems like shooting those who would commit suicide to prevent suicide.

This was a very informative and non bias explanation of Project 2025. While I strongly disagree with Project 2025 this type of information without partisan agenda helps to open discussion so that people can make their own decision and not be coerced to think one way or the other. Even Paul Dans has run away from the project and contrary to what trump says he fully endorses this type of authoritarian agenda.
Based on what I understood from this, a lot of what they propose should be repugnant to conservatives, as well. Dismantling the FBI, for one. But how many conservative voters will actually have any idea about the particulars? I feel like liberals need to do a better job of driving home just how bad this is for ALL Americans. The three branches of the government were designed to be equal by the founding fathers just so no one person could have too much power. Having just broken from a dictatorial monarch, this was a reality many of them had experienced first hand. The 25 Points was a political manifesto issued by the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (NSDAP). Civil servents don’t need to be retrained, political appointees do. As a veteran and current Civil servant, my loyal should only be to the constitution and not an ideology. Trump does not endorse project 2025. There are a lot of different ideas as to how the government “should” work, but that does not make it the agenda of the candidate. Project 2025 does not change civics nor the way the 3 branches operate, checks and balances, as well as Bill of Rights and Constitution. The president does not have full power but can influence through policies.
If you are a Veteran. Whatever you do, be aware to have a basic understanding of what Project 2025 has to do with VA benefits. Thank you for explaining plainly, what the project is all about. I do have strong beliefs but I don’t want to impose my own beliefs on anyone else. I believe that a person should make up their own minds about everything. I also don’t want to exist under an authoritarian regime which makes all of the laws and changes them to suit the person, generally the person who is their puppet. I retired from an education employment and I want to be able to read and hear things that interest me personally.
The politicization of government appointments puts me in mind of Tammany Hall during the Gilded Age. If the Party can demand loyalty from you as a government employee (more than your oath to uphold the Constitution), we’ll have something in common with the CCCP & ex-USSR. And the ability to provide cushy positions to political friends & allies seems exactly counter to conservative values. It would probably inflate rather than reduce the overall influence of the federal government in our lives.

This take on the conservative takeover plan is way too “both sides” to be helpful. You basically normalize the conservative plan to completely restructure constitutional government and effectively ensure the cons get their christianist dominion Handmaid’s Tale putin-style dictatorship without any way for the people to reverse or challenge any of it. No honest evaluation would gloss over the rollback of rights and of the shift of control of the government, police, justice system and military to a single supreme leader with no checks or balances. Just tacking on “criticisms” at the end isn’t enough. Don’t wave off the end of American democracy like it’s ordinary public policy change. Do better.
I can not comprehend how anyone could vote for this. I do not understand how any “undecided” voted can remain undecided with this document hanging over them. Is America really this sick? I want absolutely nothing to do with perpetuating the idealogy of the religious nuclear family. Im in one and its pretty shitty. People should be able to live how they decide without their own government shoving religious morals down their throats. When they say religious liberty they mean for the one religion they want to dominate and no one else.
It seems that Project 2025 clearly differentiates the two wings of conservatism today: those who primarily want to conserve Judeo-Christian values on which this country was built and others more interested in protecting wealth, portfolios and property rights. Certainly both viewpoints are valid but, I believe, the one trumps the other. No pun intended.
