Azealia Banks, a 25-year-old rapper, has shared a series of disturbing videos on Instagram, admitting to practicing “three years worth of brujería” (the Spanish word for witchcraft), a form of witchcraft popular among Latin Americans and some African Americans. Banks has been practicing witchcraft in a closet for about three years, and it appears to be the aftermath of multiple practices. In the videos, she admits to cleaning up chicken’s blood used for witchcraft, which she claims was slaughtered in the name of “brujeria”. Before scraping the chicken corpse filth from her floor, she said, “Real”. Banks also shared a sneak peek into her personal spring-cleaning ritual, where she seemingly hired out a SANDBLASTER to clean the walls and floor of her apartment.
In the videos, Banks makes reference to “brujeria”, a Spanish-language word for witchcraft. She claims that her house mysteriously went up in flames while she was asleep inside. The rapper also shared a video on Instagram showing her taking a power sander to a cupboard caked in feathers. It is not known exactly why the rapper has been sacrificing the birds, but it is believed that real witches do real things.

Why were witches shaved?
In medieval Europe, it was believed that the maleficent powers of witches and wizards resided in their hair. This led to the quest to destroy witches, as they were believed to be powerless without their hair. In witch trials, it was common practice to shave the head and body of witches to obtain confessions. This practice continued throughout the 17th century witch hunts in Europe and America, where it was believed that witches carried a Devil’s mark, such as a mole, boil, birthmark, or tiny freckle.
The most risque spot for branding was the pubic hair, which was considered the most risky spot for such branding. Despite this attempt to punish women for their distinguishing features, many witches continued to have their pubic hair shaved as an act of disempowerment and to discover hidden “marks of the devil”.
What is a bog witch?
The Swamp Witch, also known as the Bog Witch, is a figure of considerable renown in the domain of folklore. She is often perceived as a malevolent and enigmatic entity, capable of both maleficence and corruption.
What is witch soot?
Witch soot, a sticky soot that adheres to surfaces around the house, is a phenomenon that occurs between November and January. It is caused by particles less than 0. 1 micrometres in diameter and often occurs after interior painting or new floor and kitchen unit installation. German researchers have been trying to find the cause for years, with theories suggesting it may be caused by airborne gases and particles, suspended dust and particles from electrical appliances, chemicals, waste gases from building materials, paint, furniture, and floor coverings. The dust and soot particles coalesce and form sticky black deposits on poorly insulated outer walls and thermal bridges, often occurring overnight or over a few days.
What is a witch’s crook?
A witches crook is a slight to moderate bend in a chimney, often placed between the chimney’s entry and exit attic. It was believed that this was done to prevent witches from flying down the chimney and to maintain home aesthetics. In older homes, fireplaces were often built near the center of the home for better heating efficiency. However, masons had less accurate methods to determine the exact center of the home, so chimneys wouldn’t always exit the home directly at the peak of the roof.
To fix this, masons would bend the chimney in the attic, where the peak of the rook was easily visible and easy to line up with. This location also meant that the crook was less visible to people in the home.
If you have a witches crook in your home, it doesn’t necessarily indicate poor construction. If it’s in an older home built 100 to 150 years ago, located in the attic, looks intentional, and is structurally sound, there’s no need for concern. However, if it’s in living areas or outside your home, looks unintentional, and is beginning to crumble, it’s likely worth checking. If needed, hire a certified masonry expert from the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA).
What is witch hair?
Witch’s Hair is a fungus, a symbiotic association of a fungus and a green alga. The alga gives it its greenish color and provides carbohydrates through photosynthesis. The fungus provides the thallus, which transmits nutrients and water to the alga. The fungus produces apothecia, saucer-like fruiting bodies, which are rarely seen in Witch’s Hair. It propagates vegetatively when bits are blown off a branch and land on another one.
Some lichens provide good nutrition, and deer and caribou browse on this species during winter, either on low branches or when storms blow it down onto the snow. In some areas, caribou depend on it to survive the winter, and flying squirrels also make heavy use of this and other lichens in their diet.
What is a Venefica witch?
A Venefica was a Roman sorceress who used drugs, potions, and poison for various reasons. The term “venefica” means “a female who poisons” in Latin and is used in Roman authors like Cicero and Horace. In the book Raptor by Gary Jennings, a venefica slave is purchased to carry out revenge in the declining Roman Empire around 500 A. D. The novel defines veneficas as girl slaves who are fed poisons from infancy, gradually increasing their doses throughout their upbringing.
By the time they reach maidenhood, their bodies are accustomed to these substances, but the accumulated poison is so virulent that a man who beds with a venefica or partakes in her juices dies instantly. The term Venefica is a significant figure in Roman literature, particularly in the context of revenge and revenge.
What is the common witch’s hair?
Common witch’s hair is a 15-30 cm long hanging hair lichen, pale green and intricately branched. It is found in open forests and is found at all elevations, but is most common from middle to upper elevations. Its coastal range in the Pacific Northwest stretches from Alaska to Oregon, and it is found in North and South America, as well as northern and Central Europe. Similar species include Methuselah’s beard (Usnea longissima), which has a central strand with a central white cord, and Vancouver witch’s hair (Alectoria vancouverensis), which is a greyish-green hanging hair lichen found only at low elevations. These lichens are similar in their appearance and habitat.
What is a weaver witch?
Weavers, unlike “normal” witches, possess unique skills such as the ability to create new spells. They cannot use existing spells from books like the “Book of Shadows” and their fellow witches, so they must “weave” their own. This unique nature puts pressure on weavers to create unique and complex magic.
One example of a weaver is Diana, who possesses both earth and strong, multi-elemental skills. Her top elemental power is water, followed by fire, and finally air. Weavers can play with multiple elements, making their power somewhat limitless. For example, mixing fire and water can create fiery rain.
As witches are increasingly featured in Season 2 of A Discovery of Witches, it is essential to understand what a weaver is and their unique abilities. Weavers must create unique and complex spells, which requires a lot of witch power.
What is the Slavic witch mythology?
Baba Yaga is a prominent figure in Slavic folklore. She is depicted as a malevolent witch who resides in a house with chicken legs and a giant mortar and pestle. Baba Yaga is known to feast on children and can be both a heroine and a villain, as evidenced by the Russian fairy tale “Vasilisa the Beautiful.” However, Baba Yaga is also a multifaceted character, exhibiting cunning, cleverness, and helpfulness, which collectively render her the most feminist character in folklore.
How toxic is soot?
Soot can pose health risks if not properly cleaned, as tiny particles can inhale into the lungs, leading to breathing issues like asthma and bronchitis. To prevent these health issues, it is crucial to clean all soot-affected areas thoroughly and avoid spreading the soot to other areas. Soot contamination is challenging to clean due to its microscopic size, ability to travel through the air, and tendency to stick to hard surfaces. Improper cleaning can cause the soot to spread and absorb, further damaging your home and belongings.
To ensure safety and prevent permanent damage, it is recommended to leave soot cleanup to professionals like ServiceMaster Restore®. They offer thorough soot and smoke odor removal services, allowing you to enjoy your home and breathe again. For fire damage support, contact 1-800-RESPOND today.
What is a siphon witch?
Siphoners, or Siphons, are witches born without the ability to generate their own magic but possess a rare power to siphon magic from other sources. They are considered abominations by many witch communities and may face harsh treatment when discovered. Siphoners are rare and few in number, but controversial due to their potential to become witch-vampire hybrids. In 2014, Grace O’Connell Mikaelson, the first Siphoner born of a Werewolf bloodline, was born from the Original Hybrid, Niklaus Mikaelson, and in 2015, Lonndynne Mikaelson was born to Dianna Mikaelson.

What I find so interesting is that when Tyler, The Creator is outspoken and doesn’t give any regards to other people’s feelings before stating his opinion in interviews, twitter, etc, nobody gives a fuck. The world thinks, “oh great. He’s a little inconsiderate, maybe a bit crazy, but he’s an opinioned guy and props to him for being passionate.”Yet, ironically, when Azealia Banks does the exact same thing, she gets condemned, attacked, called a “bitch”, and has her amazing music intentionally ignored and paid dust. Interesting how these sexist double standards are still so prominent in today’s society.
Culture appropriation ain’t no joke. They did it with jazz, rock & roll and now hip hop. If a black person speaks out they are just looked at as the angry black guy or female. It already sucks that they kept us at the bottom since the beginning of time. But we can’t allow them to take over something that we started just for them to make a profit off of.
I love how justified she feels in her anger. People are always so quick to call black women angry. But any black woman in America who isn’t angry is walking around with their eyes closed. It’s impossible to remain blind to all the prejudice, all the stereotypical projections consistently thrown on the back of black women. And it makes me just want to say to other people judging us for the anger and the bitterness: you try being me for one day and see how easy it is for you to keep on keeping on, smiling all the while.
Dopest Interview I’ve Heard on Ebro in the Morning Talk about opening a vein she practically gave us her Heart with her Passion not only for her Music but Black CULTURE(SHE GETS OUR CULTURE/STORY NEEDS TO BE TOLD TO US BY US). She gets that Iggy, Macklemore, Eminem (Eminem Is DOPE CHILL OUT FAM) have been given an advantage within our Culture and how its more challenging for Black people to get their Art expose on Genuine Tip. I’m definitely gonna look up her Shit from this point forward deserves to get Looks without this Ongoing Fuckery in the music industry.
I kinda get what she means. Here in the UK, black artists have been pushed out of R&B. White singers like Adele, Sam Smith, Jessie J and Ed Sheeran are now the new faces of soul and R&B while black and mixed singers like Emeli Sande and Leona Lewis are ignored by the media. In future, I see the same thing happening in America. Remember that Rock and Roll is primarily a combination of “African-American genres” such as blues, boogie woogie, jump blues and jazz. Today Rock is considered “white music” and Black artists have completely been pushed out. The same will happen in American Hip Hop and R&B in a few years.
I don’t think the problem is necessarily that white people are rapping .. The problem is that white people are rapping, and aren’t good at it, or not as good as their black counterparts.. However they still receive the awards and accolades MERELY BECAUSE they are white. When the white person actually has talent ( eminem, Tina Marie, Adele) I don’t really see the issue. However I do see the issue when white people get boosted and don’t have to work hard at all and don’t even have any talent, while black people with 283818x more talent have to bust their asses to get half as far. Just my take on things.
After listening to the complete interview, I have even more respect for Azealia. I love her passion for her art and her courage to speak out about the appropriation of black culture and music and the white washing of our history. Thank you, Ms. Banks. Her album is amazing. It’s not like anything you hear on the radio and it’s pushes hip-hop to another level.
I’m really touched by her tears about african american culture not being valued. There are so many african american and native americans who had white people tear them from their original culture and religions because it was seen as of the devil and that they needed to be civilized – and now we use so many of their contributions in our american society. She makes some good points – although she uses derogatory terms like water and thus limits that ability of her message to be received.
Rap/hip-hop is black culture. Why is this even a discussion? Every other race finds our culture cool and gets influenced. It’s funny how white people want rap to be a “blank” culture when it’s not. it’s ours the little things we black Americans do have they try and take credit for why is it so hard to accept the fact that hip hop is black culture?
People keep mentioning how they hate her personality and vulgarity as far as her opinions, yet love and praise how vulgar and brash Tupac was. Not saying anything about talent, specifically comparing their talent, but there are definitely double standards as far as the way men and women express themselves and how it’s received.
Azealia Banks is a very…interesting character. Fascinating interview. I don’t necessarily agree with her opinions but I’m happy that her views are being expressed. It’s vaguely reminiscent of those Kanye interviews where Ye was speaking his truth and the masses didn’t really understand or accept his feelings. For what it’s worth. Azealia Banks is probably the best mainstream female rapper out. Her album is pretty impressive in terms of it’s genre blending and scope. I don’t think anyone else in music could craft anything quite like “Broke with Expensive Taste.” Her penchant for witty barbs, melody, and 90s house vibes are a testament to her diverse musical palette. Hopefully she continues to grow as an artist.
It sucks cuz I actually agree with a lot of her points and like that she’s passionate and tries to educate herself on how the world works I just don’t like the way she goes about it sometimes cuz the way she articulates herself on twitter often comes across just as problematic and racist as the society she’s railing against, even though she is OFTEN, but in my opinion not always, right and I dont think she is actually racist or homophobic but I think she needs to word things differently to gain more credibility so people can stop dragging her and start fixing the issues she talks about.
I’ve heard so much bad shit about her through media, I never took the chance to see what she was about. Today I’ve found out she’s more like me. Straight forward, artist, creator, sensitive about the history and the mistreatment of Black people through all forms, and having white people and gays wanting to hang out with you. Damn I like her, she’s cool to me. NEVER LISTEN TO DA MEDIA.
GUYYYYYYSSSSSSSSSSS !!!! It’s honestly not about Iggy being white!!! Its about Iggy doing a shitty job of trying to pull of rap and that’s not ok! Are you completely forgetting about Eminem??? We literally have accepted Eminem and put him on our top rappers list! It’s because he actually raps! Like instead of immediately attacking her, listen to what she’s actually saying! And the whole Tiny thing, She also made a point. It wasn’t just saying shit to be mean to hurt T.I.(in that case she could have easily said something about Tiny’s looks), she was saying real shit. T.v. got Tiny looking dumb ass shit especially with sound effects! Stop attacking the person who’s actually point out the obvious, black celebrities ignoring black problems and black people trapped in white supremacy mind set. White supremacy have got their claws so deep into your minds, your hating everything from our own people and thinking white people are doing it better! TEAM AZEALIA BANKS!!!!!!!!
Wow…she started crying and I lost it. I honestly thought she was kind of a bitch looking for attention but, she really is just straight up and just doesn’t hold her opinions to herself. This interview and what she was speaking out about is very serious and I agree with her 100%. I think I am a fan now.
Everyone calling her racist and unstable or crazy are proving her EXACT point in the article. Everyone is more concerned with who and how she’s calling people out, but no ones concerned with Iggy’s CONSTANT racist comments including the Slave-master lyric. Iggy loves cultures, but hates their people. Why would people want someone like her to participate in their culture?
Azealia is just too real man, She’s not afraid to speak her mind, and doesn’t give a fuck what anyone thinks and isn’t worried about media. Her mouth and social media fingers keeps her career from prospering on a major level. you might hate her personality but you can’t deny that this bitch has good ass talent.
Azealia is the rapper we always needed, she moves at her own pace and speaks the damn truth and it’s sad everyone overlooked everything shes said through the years and even overlooked her talent Fantasea and Broke With Expensive taste aged well to this day and whenever she decides to share her music again itll be worth the damb wait because she puts in the work and talent.
Honestly Banks has NOTHING to be jealous of or envy Azalea for. Azalea is a manufactured, commercialised product perpetuated by the industry as organic and fresh to masses off moronic contemporary radio listeners. She doesn’t even write her own music. Banks on the other hand has ACTUAL TALENT, her album was one of the most acclaimed this year and she continue to offer something inventive and interesting to a dull market. Whether she sells one record or a million is irrelevant.
She was right about everything never doubted her and i still cry randomly at “ya wife can’t read” and that TI impression lmaoo nobody really hearing ebro though he was talking about the elite the “people who don’t feel anything” i think he was trying to get her to realize that she had to play the game which she knew she just wasn’t with it this interview is gold and will go down in history years from now.
word i dont like her music but she talking facts.. its not even so much a race issue cuz there are latinos and some whites in the hood struggling and growing up with us but the others? I cant think of a better word than “Culture Vultures” cuz thats what it is.. Remember when Lil Wayne tried to make a rock album?? how the rock community refused to accept it not cuz he black but cuz he’s not from their lifestyle and background and that album flopped.. its sad so many blacks and latins follow people like Iggy, Em and them.. its past music and down to clothes even.. Niggas will spend $800 buying some french nigga shoes who dgaf bout black people or the hood instead of supporting their own people startin a clothing company.. some ni\\ggas wana be white or accepted by white people so much and dont realize it……. bless day to all, this was some real shit
This interview was very intriguing on so many levels because part of me agrees with Azealia; however, the other side of me can’t stand her mouth (i’m talking about the vulgarities btw) ! She is ignorant brilliance personified because she is consciously and socially aware of what going on in Hip Hop, but she is also brutally rude enough to invoke black stereotypes–and still make sense. She is thoughtful yet unapologetic. She is rebellious in speech but passionate in her conviction.
Azealia Banks is the most systematically aware 23 year old I’ve ever come across. If you would just hear the message you would understand. Reminds me of Kanye’s message that’s often misinterpreted by the tone of his voice. She opened my eyes to so many things. Your a martyr for black culture in my eyes.
azealia banks speaks what most people sweep under the rug… blinded by this general code of ethics thats instilled in most of america, azealia is fearless when it comes to speaking her mind, so they try to quiet her with the frequently used reference of her just being crazy instead of appreciating the fact that this beautiful black woman has a voice and an opinion and not being afraid to use it… i could never muster up the energy to down her because i’m too intrigued by her, even when i don’t agree with her i appreciate her truth …. its funny we were always told to be ourselves but here she is beign herself and speakign her mind and people are like “NO, don’t say that. Thats crazy. She’s angry. Be like this… Do that etc” like i love azealia banks and i don’t want her silenced i live for the headlines and a artist whose not scared to say how they really feel
It took me a long time to read everybody’s opinion in the comment section and I noticed most people still just DON’T UNDERSTAND. For the most part people think Azealia is crazy, racist, unstable, etc, but you have to keep in mind that she is a passionate artist and because of where she comes from (her mother especially) has a way with words so at first sight it will come out rude and steamy. With that being said what she wants to point out is that black people are limited by white supremacy in America’s society. The beef started when she said something about Iggy being shit, and that’s her opinion based on her popularity and it is true, Iggy sucks, the first time I heard fancy I was like WTF IS THIS CRAP. So that’s her opinion, shouldn’t have said it on twitter but that’s who she is, she fears no one and will point out her ideas no matter what. So after the beef started she pointed out that this untalented white princess has so much success when there are so many black artist that have no recognition for their TALENT like kendrick Lamar loosing over Macklemore -.- it wasn’t only because she is black and it’s not as successful as she should be, although if you ask me Azealia is a genius!! she is soooo underated based on her talent, the music industry is so based on looks and not talent. So judge what you want but to me I will always support Azealia’s ideas
This young lady has her eyes wide open and anytime you stand in truth there will be people who fear your powerful in depth thoughts. This world is for keeping us distracted with nonsense that will break down our family structure, munipulate and brashwash our children, and leave black women without the protection, love and support of our black men.
I can’t believe she gave such honest, genuine, and raw energy to these interviewers that, IMO, were very demeaning and exploitive. She was so right, and continues to be so right. She’s an artist, and may be too real to fit into big music industry boxes. I’m so glad we still get art from her in 2020. This voice is so important and needs to be heard!
I feel like people are over looking the main message she is trying to get to. Everyone is speaking on race as if she is saying white people and Iggy can’t be in Hip Hop because they aren’t part of the black culture that is hip/hop and rap music. I feel she is speaking of the frustration that just so happens to tie into her problem with Iggy. She is almost using Iggy as an example. My opinion is she is speaking on the concept that Iggy and other white artist in the Hip/Hop community are used by major corporations to make as money as they can because as Ebro said it is a perfect marketing scheme for modern day USA. She could seem jealous and ignorant but really she is frustrated that the “White Man” exploits black culture for personal gain, which isn’t right. I believe this does really happen. The grammy’s and other sources may not even realize they do it. It takes people like Azealia to inform people from the perspective of someone who actually has to deal with it because I know from experience. I’m a 20 year old white male and after this interview is the first time I’ve thought about racial issue and cultures being tied into major corporations and making money. She is clearly very informed on real world perspective, how ever I do feel she is very opinionated and blunt, which is a very dangerous thing to be when you have some many people listening. Over all this is an amazing interview.
The exploitation of black music has been GOING ON FOREVER. Let’s not forget Elvis stole songs from blacks. That the Beatles did the same thing. Rock & Roll, Jazz & Hip hop are genres we make to unleash our pain & uplift. That has been the roots of all the genres. Yes white ppl can be rappers, Eminem is one if the greatest but IGGY AZALEA WOULD NOT BE HERE IF SHE WASNT WHITE. She has no lyrical weight. Her songs are not resonating with REAL hip hop fans. It’s resonating with white ppl who don’t think they know hip hop.
azealia has been speaking the truth for years. people will take any little offensive thing she says as an excuse to downplay her whole career, but i fucking love her for staying true to herself and being a provocative, unapologetic, real ass talented black woman and not bowing down. the world hates her for it, but those who get it will always respect her.
So the best rapper has to be Black? Please we(BLACKS) started the same foolishness with Eminem. But today we can’t discredit because he brought something to the table. Azelia Banks, if you think you better than Iggy, make a good album first instead of saying because she is white. Nobody can discredit NAS, JAY Z, 2PAC, RAkeem, Snoop… because they did the job. You are young to start now and be brillliant. Stop blaming the white man for everything in America please. Rap as good as Nikki you admire. Take Care!!!!
Girl you better speak on the industry. I find comfort in knowing that Iggy won’t be around for too much longer. She’ll fade away soon and they’ll replace her with somebody that’s equally or more white and annoying than she is. These Grammy’s are paid for which is illegal, but that’s the name of the game. The way she’s getting emotional about the culture is exactly the way I feel. I would’ve NEVER thought in a million years that hip hop and r&b would be where it is today. Singers that sing are totally overlooked. Rappers that rap are totally overlooked. It’s not just these corny wack non-black people, it’s black people too. Grown ass men and women get on record and stage and just talk and mumble and mask it as “music.” I’m tired of it. Tiny and T.I. have 20 children so all they care about is money. I understand, but DAMN! Rachelle Ferrell and Whitney Houston?! My kinda girl! The beat from her “song” Desperado sounds like a remix from Craig David’s 7 Days. This girl is a trip. Her “music” is terrible, but she’s funny and crazy as hell. Imma check on her.
People treat iggy like she herself is a racist. I feel people push all of their insecurities and struggles as a black person on to iggy as if she caused it. She’s successful and people are jealous. Period. Point. Margin. She did nothing to hiphop but lift it. Where was banks when autotune took over “hip-hop”…when sex became the easy way for female rappers…..when kraeshawn flopped…. Now that a white female is succeeding in rap and beyond, people mad. If she would have flopped, nobody would have turned their head. Smdh. Stop it. And how is it that a newcomer has to “prove” themselves but thousands of black people who rap, have little knowledge or care about “black issues” ….scratches head
I watched this years ago when it came out and chose to revisit after recent events. I tried to show this to people and everyone was like nah she’s just crazy blah blah blah and now I will share once again in hopes they finally get it. As a white person I was educated by her in this interview back then and even more so today. I hope that everyone can see past all the headlines and accusations she makes and realise that shes a smart outspoken woman who is speaking the truth!
Azealia hints and scrapes at this, but the bottom line is our society loves black culture and hated black people. The advent of Iggy and other entertainers like her is America’s answer to that race conundrum. They get the cheap knockoff of a product without having to face the people that originated the art.
She picked up on her mother’s pain, her anger and how hurt her mother has been and has never let go of that pain. So carries on with that pain. perusal her now in 2021 I feel like slowly she’s letting go of that emotion it’s definitely still there but all ima say is she is a TRUE GEMINI INTUITIVE. And for that I will support her because she needs it.
Ebro trying to school her like what??? Don’t try to tell her what to do… trying to soften her flame… shut up & just listen to her. Convince them other people to shut up & listen to her instead of trying to convince her to dim her light (fire/sun). At 23 YEARS OLD she chose freedom over fuckery… this deserves to be celebrated not confined. Ugh.
This is gold. ✨ I love her. She speaks her mind and has no filter which imo is the essence of a true artist. It’s so many people in the industry who suck up and suppress who they actually are for the sake of media and so forth. While that’s ok to keep the money coming in, it’s denying who you truly are which banks does not do. Period. I fucks with her.
edude or whatever is so condescending and rude like how are YOU as a radio host inviting someone on the show and saying that you dont know any song off her album😭 always do ur research thats just a respectful thing to do and its so upsetting seeing him miss EVERY. SINGLE. POINT. azealia is making like hes just proving her point abt being called aggressive and rude when she’s just trying to explain herself
For real tho I can’t stand the way the host keeps trying to narrate Azealia. I mean she’s right there in the room, speaking – no filter- and he’s trying to put words in her mouth. Or “help” her as he calls it. What Azealia says about enslavement of African people being the foundation of the world-wide system of capitalism is spot on. However her frustration comes from having that understanding but then not doing anything to overturn the contradiction. Being dis-empowered goes way beyond black music appropriation, it comes from the exploitation of black people as a whole;from our culture, labor, identity, land, and people and it’s not until we can control our story, our history, our land, our resources, our lives will we be able to be free of the situations that caused Azealia to well up in tears. Azealia check out the African People’s Socialist Party. We’ll show you how to struggle on these issues.
despite how the media portrays her, i’ve really taken quite a liking to azalea banks. i’ve got to admit she makes great points about cultural smudging and she knows exactly what she’s talking about. i think she just has a little trouble articulating and conveying because she’s got so much to say. i hate how others portray her as if she’s crazy and angry. why does she have to be represented as an angry woman? why can’t she be represented as woman passionate and emotional about her culture.
Greart interview. Interesting to see a female artist having the guts to expose white supremacy in the entertainment industry. White supremacy is so complicated that it might seem unfair to take it out on white artists. Pros to Ebro for this interview. White supremacy today stays hidden in capitalism and corporatism and once it got a hold of hiphop, unfortunately, that also means there will be a lot racism in hip-hop. Corporate hiphop will have a problem with the likes of Ebro who try to guide Miss Azaelia Banks to fight white supremacy. Support Azaelia Banks. Buy Broke With Expensive Taste.
Guys, she’s only 23. She’s a young black girl that is frustrated. She will grow older and experience more things and her eyes will open more. Instead of shooting her down for her opinions and her feelings, look at it from her perspective. Tbh as a black female 19, sometimes it doesn’t bother me when I see something that has been with blacks for years come into light only when white people start doing it. Black women have been known to have big asses for DECADES, but only recently it’s become this whole thing when white girls started squatting. Same with twerking. It only for popular and “cool” when MILEY did it. Twerking has been here for years upon years in hip hop music articles and looked down on. Why only now is it accepted? I’m not hating on anyone who is truly talented even if they are white, like GOOD for you. Make that money. BUT it just sucks that when you’re black you can’t make something completely worldwide. White people have to get into it for it to be officially “cool” to everyone.
Definitely my new favorite artist. I ain’t bought an album in years but I bought her shit just from the interview alone. The shit is off the chain and I want to hear her spit some of that knowledge especially about systematic white supremacy in her music. She wants to keep it light and be about the music but she can do both. Have some uptempo party shit and some deep shit. Finally a Harlem girl representing
Isn’t azealia doing the same thing to Dominican culture that iggy is doing to black culture? She talks like she’s Spanish and even said her music is influenced by Dominican music. Isn’t that cultural appropriation since she’s not Dominican? She’s angry that iggy is trying to be something she’s not but she’s kind of doing the same thing.
Honestly I think Azealia Banks is the best female rapper with her ny raw biggie flow and people doesn’t realize how good she is. I know iggy been bash by the industry for being white but proved every one wrong with surpassing the Beatles and convince people she ok I been like her since iggy world but you shouldn’t have one best female rapper award just for saying ” who dat who dat gi gi ah gi gi wah gi gi who dat who dat gi I igy whah” lol.
So I’m 26 now. I watched this interview when it aired and though I don’t recall exactly what I thought of her at the time, I’m sure it was vaguely negative. How could it not be? She was public enemy #1 for a while. Now that the dust is settled and we’ve all matured a bit, she was so correct and so ahead of where the discourse was at the time. Intelligent woman. Still a Lupe fan though and I thought the beef was stupid, but she got a raw deal in the press/media broader hip hop coverage and it’s obvious why. Some of it is her abrasive way of expressing her self sure, that’s reflective of her age, but a lot of it was just simply trying to shut down conversations they didn’t want to have.
Despite race Iggy IS NOT a lyrical genius. Drake, Kendrick, Cole, Banks, and Nicki blow her out of the water lyrically. Macklemore and Iggy don’t compare. In terms of race Eminem is white, but has proven himself and can be placed in a category of Drake, Kanye, and Jay Z. Fancy is definitely a pop song. It’s not hip hop at all. Same with starships that’s a pop song and not really hip hop. Also Iggy started as a singer. Look it up. She clearly didn’t start rapping.
Most geniuses are psychotic; however, she is immensely socially and political cognizant which potentially she would be a menace to the Hip Hop industry. And- basically- she is speaking truth about the intentional eradication( Culture smudging!) of Black culture as most American consumers are desensitized in this racist society. ( Gentrification, Black music, etc- it is all erasure!) She is too real for the music racist corporation. This was an insightful interview which gave me more insight on her blunt personality. And- I heard want Ebro was trying to say to Banks from a business perspective as it relates to her tenacious emotions. I don’t think she was trying to hear him.
can somebody plz explain to me how banks’ music is hip hop.. like after checkin out some of her songs im so lost.. ive never heard a beat like 212 considered hip hop in my life.. if u know plz gimme some examples.. this shit has me so lost on why shes even talkin bot iggy.. she might not b the most lyrical and the grammy part is completely valid but shes rapping..on hip hop beats with a hip hop sound. Banks is rapping sounding like a white girl on pop/techno beats i know you dont think you were gunna beat her out wit that shit?? Tf??
People can say what they wanna. Fact is at the end of the day this is a boss ass interview and I hope to see people refer to it for years to come when searching for societal truths. She may not have a Grammy or any such relic of excellence atop her mantle but she will always have this in the archives to proclaim herself as one of the realist people of her times. I love her for all of this knowledge. And she is so young. Work it sis…… PERIOD!
Im a black man and never listen to her yrs later i was like why are they attacking this woman i finally listen to her music its amazing her personality is beautiful shes smart so i just had to see this interview and understand whats going on shes completely correct they are erased our culture and history i also understand why shes upset with TI which every black person should because he is a sellout hiphop died because of us allowing these ppl to run our culture so they pick and choose who we want to listen to instead of putting out the talented gifted artist that can make a change or impact to help the black community
“Let that speak”……there’s only so long before nobody fucking listens. They’ll like the music but people will be blind to certain truths in the music. So if she needs to move it to a place where it’s typed out…I’m happy she did so!!! Look how right she was about it all. It’s not that she wasn’t communicating appropriately it’s that she was IGNORED purposely by the media. Be REAL!!!!!!
Not me getting called out for having a stick and bandana with stuff to walk away😂😂 it was actually a wouden horse and stick🙈 my dad yelled at me for no reason and I was so mad, I grabbed my stuff and walked out. At the end of our street my mom yelled at me to come back and was also laughing. My dad to this day does not believe he did anything wrong. He got mad at me because the vhs tape he put on the cabinet fell, he thought I did it because I stood there. Such a dumb b*tch😡 my dad hahah
You guys do know that after they broke bread with the natives they were all good for like 60 years then the natives wanted Manhattan back and pilgrims were like “nah” so they fought for it and one side lost. 50% of the natives died and 30% of pilgrims, it was one sided for sure but not as much as people think
