Phoebe Buffay-Hannigan is a character on the popular sitcom Friends (1994–2004), portrayed by Lisa Kudrow. She is best known for her bohemian personality and is best friends with Monica and Rachel Green. In the Season 8 episode, Phoebe spells her name using made-up words that rhyme with “Pheebe”. She is Monica Geller’s roommate before Rachel Green, and she is introduced to the group through Monica.
In the Season 10 episode “The One Where Joey Speaks French”, Phoebe revealed that she is fluent in French and learned the language behind a dumpster with a garbage bag. She uses the phrase “P as in Phoebe, H as in Hebe, O as in O B, E as in E V, B as in Bebe, and E as in” to comfort Rachel.
In the episode, Phoebe uses her nickname “Pheebs” to comfort Rachel, despite being unaware of her nickname. In the end, she tries to spell her name correctly, using the correct pronunciations for her name.
