The Mirror of Erised is a magical artifact that reveals the deepest and most desperate desires of our hearts, allowing the viewer to see their reflected self in a state of perfect happiness. • I read a theory somewhere that Fred and George discovered the Mirror Of Erised in their 1st year, but when they look into it, all they see was the two of them, side by side, just like in real life, so the thought it was just a normal mirror and leave the room. Years later, when George look into the mirror again, he saw both of them, standing side by side, and he finally understand what the mirror is.

  • Timestamps, because I know I’ll come back to this (thanks, Morgan!): 2:32 Harry Potter 2:58 Hermione Granger 3:31 Ron Weasley 3:56 Ginny Weasley 4:14 Draco Malfoy 4:40 Neville Longbottom 5:02 Luna Lovegood 5:21 Sirius Black 5:58 Albus Dumbledore 6:37 Severus Snape 6:58 Fred Weasley 7:23 George Weasley 7:54 Percy Weasley 8:13 Molly Weasley 8:48 Arthur Weasley 9:09 Charlie Weasley 9:18 Bill Weasley 9:42 Rubeus Hagrid 9:57 Peter Pettigrew 10:19 Fleur Delacour 10:57 Minerva McGonagall 11:25 Tom Riddle / Voldemort 11:50 Bellatrix Lestrange 12:18 Remus Lupin 12:41 Nymphadora Tonks 13:07 Cho Chang 14:00 Dudley Dursley 14:24 Vernon Dursley 14:38 Petunia Dursley 15:18 Newt Scamander 15:47 Oliver Wood 16:02 Gellert Grindelwald 16:43 Gilderoy Lockhart 17:00 Leta Lestrange 17:23 Lucius Malfoy 18:00 Narcissa Malfoy 18:15 Lily Potter 18:35 James Potter 19:05 Alastor Moody 19:51 Mundungus Fletcher 20:03 Tina Goldstein 20:26 Kingsley Shacklebolt 20:44 Argus Filch 21:01 Dolores Umbridge 21:49 Jacob Kawalski 22:25 Lavender Brown 22:47 Parvati Patil 23:01 Sybill Trelawney 23:26 Winky 24:18 Kreacher 24:51 Barty Crouch Sr. 25:15 Barty Crouch Jr. 25:33 Cedric Diggory 26:00 Amos Diggory 26:34 Queenie Goldstein 27:12 Rita Skeeter 27:35 Dean Thomas 27:58 Seamus Finnegan 28:29 Horace Slughorn 28:51 Viktor Krum 29:25 Andromeda Tonks 29:48 Olympe Maxime 30:08 Fenrir Greyback 30:30 Cornelius Fudge 30:55 Quirinus Quirrell 31:29 Filius Flitwick 32:00 Dobby 32:38 Bloody Baron 33:25 Helena Ravenclaw / Grey Lady 34:00 Teddy Lupin

  • I also think Cedric saw Harry as more of a partner than an opponent, after Harry told him about the first task being dragons. By that point, he probably realized that Harry didn’t really want to compete, so Cedric’s desire seems more so Harry wouldn’t have to endure all the grief he got from his name coming out of the goblet.

  • Conparing Bellatrix to Barty Jr, although they’re both psychopaths, I think Barty Jr is more intelligent and can think clearer as he was able to live in Hogwarts for a whole year in disguise and acting friendly amongst enemies, being friendly with Harry and helping him, of course he had an evil plan, but I think Bellatrix was a crazy unbridled lady, she wouldn’t have managed to stay in character undercover for a whole year, especially around Dumbledore, she wouldn’t be able to get her shit together hahaha

  • The way you transitioned between characters always felt like there was a natural connection, and the way you bridged all the ideas together for each character was really nice. It’s nice to see your experience from the books v movies series led to a a lot of really small details fitting together for some great theory, thanks for what you do

  • i do also think Petunia may have seen herself reconciled with lily in the mirror, as an adult after lily’s death “You didn’t just lose a mother that night in Godric’s Hollow, you know. I lost a sister” i think deep down she felt incredibly guilty about what happened with her relationship with lily, how her jealousy ruined their relationship and regretted not reconciling before lily died Which is also why she continued to protect harry after vernon wanted to throw him out, she knew how important it was to keep him safe, for both harry and for lily’s memory

  • Petunia Dursley was actually a very understanding person, not a very good person most of the time, but understanding. She really knew her son, as shown in chapter 3 of The Deathly Hallows, when Dudley said “I don’t think you’re a waste of space.” And she burst into tears and praised him for basically saying “Thank you.”

  • I don’t think Bill would have just seen himself without his scars. He was never one to care about what people thought about his looks and chose to look very rebellious which had probably always made him stand out already so I don’t think he’d care that much Getting hurt didn’t change anything, if anything it was him getting those scars that finally made his family, especially Molly accept Fleur who still loved him regardless and even saying “All these scars show is that my husband is brave” so I Really don’t think his deepest wish and desires would be to erase all that it doesn’t fit with the down to earth person he is and always was

  • In my head, Harry’s mirror-vision would change once he got married and had kids. I think he would see his immideate family (including Teddy) with Teddy’s parents stading behind his godson, James and Lily behind himself, and Sirius next to James (I feel that he would’ve liked to see James and Sirius interact). The Weasleys (including Fred) might’ve been there too. When he was younger, he wasn’t sure what family looked like, so he went with only biological, but as he got older, and created a new, mismatched family, he would’ve seen that one whole and complete.

  • One day while cleaning up Hogwarts after the battle, George found a mirror. It was a beautiful mirror. Gold and glistening. When he looked in it he saw himself. Himself, happy, and energetic, and laughing at something. It made him feel good looking at it. But then his stomach dropped and he felt ill. He didn’t know why. Then he realized. His reflection, had two ears… Edit: How the hell do I have like 80 likes! It been like 7 hours! ☺️ Edit 2: 300 likes!!!! How this probably the most likes I’ve EVER gotten! Tysm!!

  • I feel so sorry for Cedric because, like you mentioned, he got almost no attention as the Hogwarts champion in the Triwizard Tournament outside of Hogwarts because of Harry, and then not only should he have probably won the tournament if it weren’t for Barty Crouch Jr., he also ended up dying in the graveyard with no chance of escaping unlike Harry.

  • I think Pettigrew, would see himself back again with his childhood friends. I think that maybe, in his heart he wanted them back, and felt deep regret for what he did. I think that kid Tom Marvolo Riddle, would see himself with his parents, would see himself loved, even that he can’t feel love, he needed someone to love him at this age. Spot on with the desire of Bellatrix. I just want to say- Bellatrix was a fake person. Because she cast out her own sister Andromeda, for marrying a Muggle-Born. And there she goes, falling in love with a Half-Blood, and by the Cursed Child garbage, giving him a child. Bellatrix wouldn’t be the only one, to be mad if she hears what you said. I can hear Dolohov from his grave- Am I a joke to you Muggle? I think about Andromeda. If she would look in the mirror, prior to the deaths of her husband and daughter, she would see herself with her sisters and parents, because she loved them very much, and she wanted to enjoy both of the worlds.

  • 7:37-7:46 Okay…. Wow. Just wow. That right there hurt!!! I felt that!!! About a year ago, I made a tweet saying that the sad thing about Fred and George using the aging potion to enter their names of the goblet of fire was that was their only time they would see each other growing old together but I think you just knocked my tweet right of the park!

  • When you think about it, the mirror of Erised is the most busted object of the series, that could break literally any plot. Harry saw his parents in the movie / saw in his ancestors in the book. But, in real life, he never saw them, not a picture, nothing… So, the mirror understood the desire of something Harry never felt/saw/have memories of and showed the reality and the concept of the desire to the exact details. This mirror is capable of projecting “truth” unknown to the user… You could abuse the crap out of that… A confusion or memory spell on a person to change his deepest desire. And you can have instant visualization of a projection of what the person wants. Let’s create a few examples : 1. Confusion spell on Sirius Black to lower his regret of losing his friends and to augment his desire to find the location Peter Pettigrew… Mirror shows the location of Peter… 2. Confusion spell on Albus or Harry to know the location of the Horcruxes and it would show the locations of the Horcruxes…. 3. Confusion spell on a victim of Death eaters to know who killed their family and boom, projection of the murderers… Let’s do the ministry work the easy way… I could go on and on and never stop.

  • I really enjoyed this article, and loved the ideas you had for the characters! I can really see them being real, great article man! But, I have an idea for article that could be similar to this, what would the characters see if they drank the potion on the island in the cave? So, what would be some of their deepest fears they’d see?

  • My headcannon for George would be that as an old man, he’s wise but still showing his sense of humor and creativity time to time still heartbroken over Fred’s Death, because I read something Iroh from Avatar said: (“How did you get over the death of your son?”) “I didn’t.”. I could see an aging George be like that 🙂

  • As much as I admire you Morgan but I think you mostly see Ginny as Harry’s love interest/his fangirl but she’s so much more than that She will see herself as the captain of the Holyhead harpies or even playing for England in the world cup or see that the events of her first year never happened After the war she’ll obviously see her family as whole with Fred standing beside George and Remus and Tonks holding teddy Her heart’s desire,as you put it, was much much more than just Harry, if it was then they would have never gotten together.

  • Simply having SEVENTY characters that are portrayed deep enough to make theories on, is yet another proof of how amazing the HP series really is. Think about LotR, which gained success at around the same time (and I’m a fan btw, so no disrespect). But would you be able to make a article about 70 characters, as detailed as this one? Earned my sub.

  • This guy is unbelievable I thought my friends liked Harry Potter but movie flame is another level. The fact that he puts so much effort and work to this sort of stuff has just stunned me keep it up. I have binge watched most of his articles and the dedication is inspirational all I can say Is: I have subscribed!

  • About petunia I strongly believe that her desire to go to hogwarts was before Lily’s death. After that I think her deepest desire would have been to see her alive again and reconcile with her despite her jealousy ( the deleted scene for deathly hallows part 1 shows this better than it could ever be described)

  • I saw this in a comment section somewhere it went: “George Weasley was helping at hogwarts when he found a beautiful gold glistening great wide mirror and he had previously talked with Harry so he figured out this was the mirror Harry was talking of, The Mirror Of Erised. And he wanted to see what his desire was so he looked in the mirror and saw himself with two ears, and he thought to himself “seriously this is my desire? My ear back?” Then he realized he was looking at his twin and broke down into tears” So beautifully written. and I saw another comment on this article very similar that was also just as beautifully written

  • I often get asked who I wold bring back to life if I could. My answer always is and always will be Tonks because a child needs at least one parent, mostly its mother, and I think that she would have gladly taken Harry under her wing, just like Sirius and Remus would have done. Although George does deserve his brother, I still think Teddy should have a parent to take care of him and tell him about his father more than anyone else could have. This is just random thoughts that I thought I’d explain because everyone is always confused when I give my answer 🙂

  • I actually believe Sirius would see all of the people he cares about happy and together, so the marauders minus peter, harry, lily, regulus, etc. and not just the marauders. I see him as someone who has already coped with the death of his friend and brother, and isn’t like, caught up in it like Harry was with his parents.

  • i agree with most of the picks although i have to disagree with petunia. I the first few years after lily went to hogwarts, yes she would see herself going to hogwarts. Maybe even after she met vernon, she might see herself as a grown witch and graduee of hogwarts. But i think after she didnt invite lily to her wedding and especially after she learned that her sister died, i think she would see herself having made it up with her, not necessarily that she would still be alive but much more to simply to have come to good terms with her and incline with that maybe even her treating harry better growing up.

  • Because in the books it’s not made clear if Snape had romantic feelings towards Lily or only strong platonic ones, I think her forgiving him and even accepting to become his best friend once again, plus either being the DADA teacher or working outside of Hogwarts as a potionners could be what he would see too. Oh, and he would probably see the end of the war (so no Voldemort and no death eaters). Or, like Draco, he would see himself without the mark.

  • Awesome article. If you’ve seen my FACEBOOK & INSTAGRAM profiles, I’ve created a custom character named Stefani Victoria Nightingale. If you read my stories, here’s what she’d seen in the mirror in 3 scenarios. Before her arrest in Azkaban (basically during her 6th year), she wouldve fully graduated and became an respected Auror, her mom still alive, married to her Hogwarts sweetheart, Regina Vargas, and accepted as a hybrid amongst muggles n wizards (human-vampire). After the events of OOTP, she’d still have Sirius as well as have everything from the first scenario. After the events of DH, same thing as the first two scenarios, all her friends/allies alive (including Fred Weasley) and adopting Neville Longbottom as a son.

  • Many people say Ginny is perfect for Harry ( which is true) but people forget how perfect Harry is for Ginny and he’s her anchor and her best source of happiness and hang out and does understands way more than her family ever and this man will do anything to keep her safe and she loves this side because she feel in love with Harry Potter himself

  • Voldemort would see himself as a normal kid that hasn’t been abandoned. He’s just a hurt kid that’s become crazy. There is a saying “a child that has been cast out by his village, will (later) burn it down to feel it’s warmth” That’s who Voldemort truly is, an abandoned child. As a sociopath/psychopath he doesn’t feel love for anyone as he doesn’t feel love for himself and has no empathy. Every other being just gets used by him to accomplish his plans of fantasies of power further. He and his desire for power as an over compensation for the lack of love is all that motivates his actions. One could say that Voldemort is the desire for power.

  • You mentioning Harry Potter “secret lab” reminds me of a HP toy I had as a kid. It was this potions classroom with real functioning items that you would use some of the ingredients to teach you how to make candy. You could make a jelly, a gummy, and a hard candy. It also came with a small booklet telling you what the ingredients were and where you can replace them and get more of them. The candy was really simple and not great but kid me had a Blast making them. I have no idea what happened to that but I think I’m gonna try to find a replacement and try it out with my niece lol.

  • I think Sirius would see all four of them together and he would see Peter as loyal to them. I also feel like Remus would see himself with all four of the marauders reunitued again, along with no werewolf condition because James, Sirius, and Peter all proved that they were willing to do anything for Remus. They became illegal animagi for Remus.

  • 12:35 I do think Lupin would desire to be normal. but I also think he’d have the desire of being with the other marauders again (+ Lilly who he was very fond of too). up until the end of book 3 with all 3 Marauders, including Sirius, and after with only James and Sirius, since Lupin showed to be more conflicted about Sirius’ presumed betrayal, than Peter’s (being very ready to murder him and all…) I don’t think he would have (in a hypothetical scenario) wanted to be free of lycanthropy, if it would cost him losing the time they had spend as friends

  • If James would have stopped bullying earlier, Snape wouldn’t have upset Lily, making her probably end up with Snape. I think James knew this, so he wouldn’t see him stopping bullying earlier, but perhaps him, Lily, Harry, Sirius, all his friends, family, etc. together and whole forever or something close to that.

  • In my opinion, the scene where Harry looks into the mirror is one of the most guy wrenching scenes in the early movies. He just wants his family, something most of us take for granted. It’s also a personal theory of mine that the mirror didn’t simply project images of Harry’s parents, but allowed the ghosts of his parents to come through. Just this once, he could see them. My basis for this is in his mother’s reaction to seeing him become saddened and reaching out to the mirror: her smile turns to sadness too, and she puts a hand on his shoulder. When he tries to reciprocate this, putting his hand over where hers is, she smiles again. I could be overanalyzing, but this is my theory.

  • I think Lily and snape would have been so perfect together. My favorite part of all the movies in harry potter is when albus dumbledore says” after all this time?”. Then Severus says”Always”. Its so cute. When i didnt read harry potter yet, i loved james potter. now i hate him because he totally stole lily from severus and abused Severus. harsh moment. I never really understood why lily married james.

  • If Gravity falls characters looked into the Erised Mirror Stanford Pines would see himself refusing Bill Cipher deal Bill Cipher would see himself killing the pines and becoming overlord Dipper would see himself as an adult becoming like his Grand uncle’s Stan and Ford and Marrying Wendy Stanly Pines would see himself making better choices in life and having his father’s approval Any more ideas?

  • With some characters who have regrets due to perceived personal failings (Slughorn for one), I headcanon that the mirror can’t show them their regrets because it cannot physically absolve them of their guilt in certain specific situations like that. This may be the case for Slughorn because he was shown to have actively edited the memory of teaching Tom Riddle about the horcruxes out of his life. Characters who have this regret over a personal past decision they made must learn to forgive themselves on their own. Arguably this is still a big regret of Slughorn’s, but not one that controls his life. It would depend on how strong the regret is and if that desire to change the past overtakes every other desire (which I don’t think Slughorn is dealing with given he can repress his memory of that day very easily). So maybe in this situation, the Mirror can show themselves holding a time-turner instead so they can go back and fix that mistake. Slughorn seems like the kind of man who’d see all his past Slug Club students, even the ones that died too early (like Regulus Black and Harry’s mother) become successes to prove he was right, with Tom Riddle conveniently not shown in the mirror, since he thrives vicariously through his more successful students and his correct judgements about a kid. Slughorn carries around old photos of past students everywhere, after all, even the dead ones.

  • I feel like Helena’s would go back much farther than that as we know the reason, she stole the diadem in the first place was because she was jealous of her mother’s fame and intellect and intended to use the diadem herself. so its likely she would see herself becoming even more famous and intelligent then her mother, going down in history as the greatest witch of her age.

  • The only point I may contest is in Remus telling that his curse was actually a blessing because it brought him the indescribably dedicated bond of James and Sirius. I am sure that a part of him would see himself never having had to endure the curse in the first place but I feel that there is an equal part of him that may have simply seen him being in genuine control of the curse so that he could freely enjoy the adventures that he had with Padfoot and Prongs, feeling that immense bond and being free to fully be both parts of who he grew up as. Perhaps even including the innocent Wormtail they knew while they were still students.

  • If I were to look in the Mirror of Erised, I would be immortal and have a gaming device in my hand that has every mainline Pokemon game (including remakes, storage apps such as Pokemon Bank and Pokemon Home, ect) from Generation 1 to current. Also, the device having having the ability to download new Pokemon games on release.

  • Sirius also could see James and Lily alive, and Pettigrew who never betrayed. And himself never being in Azkaban. Also maybe healthy Lupin? About Moody, I have a theory. Death Eaters could have killed his family/best friend, for which reason he hated them. So he would see his close persons alive and Voldemort and Death Eaters gone.

  • Hard definitely to see Dumbledore alive, I know I would. I absolutely was unable to breath at his death cause I was crying so bad. I know they showed Harry’s but I think Serious Black (his God father) back alive would be included. Hermione, probably to be full wizard. Ron already showed. But I absolutely loved this article. Great job!

  • I think that, before Book Six, what Draco would have seen in the mirror would have been himself showered in fame and glory like he always saw Harry being showered with. Draco never seemed to big on the Death Eaters. He just wanted to be famous and have the spotlight on him, which is precisely the reason he approached Harry to be friends in Book One, and why he held a grudge about his refusal for the rest of the series.

  • for remus loupin, i think he would also wish to find a cure for the werewolf disease considering he is having first hand knowledge about how terrible it is, and how it is effecting the people bitten by it, potentialy also finding a way to fully controll it so werewolf would be able to not go berserk and instead controll what going on.

  • 14:41 ….Not really. Deep down, unlike her husband, she was a HUMAN instead of a cartoon character. She had an empathetic and loving side. That does not make her a good person: Grindewald loved Dumbledore and Pettigrew loved the Marauders, didn’t stop them from doing horrible things. Your character is defined by the actions you choose, and she chose to abuse her nephew/foster son for an extremely petty grudge from when she was a literal 9 year old all the way until she was middle aged. I pity her, but I do not understand people who sympathize with her.

  • I agree with what you said about Hermione but i think she would see that at the fourth book or after because she really didn’t know or care about house elves before the fourth book so before that i think she would see herself getting outstanding on all her O.W.L.S and getting a leading role in the ministry like you said

  • I have a few things… 1:I think Hagrid would also see Buckbeak before they went back in time 2: Honestly, soon me and my sister are going to rewatch all of the Harry Potter movies and you know what, I CAN WAIT bc I’m not going to sit their with my sister, her bf? and magbe my cat or mother there while i cry when Fred dies.

  • Another way to look at what Voldemort would see in the mirror..: Dumbledore said to Harry “the happiest man on earth would look into the mirror and see only himself exactly as he is”. And I think Voldemort only saw himself. Him being so deluded with his grandiose mind, that he thought himself to be the best and most powerful wizard in the world. Voldemorts truest desire was only surrounded around himself and power. And I think he actually thought himself already achieving that. And that’s why he would only see himself. Empty mirror, empty soul.. But then again, I don’t think he was a very happy person, I think he was rather miserable, without him really knowing he was. He didn’t see himself with “flaws” like that.

  • Now that I think about it I feel bad for Draco Malfoy because His father Lucious (I prob spelled it wrong 😑) Always wanted him to be the Perfect Death-eater And basically just made him think he has to have power. I feel like if Draco’s father didn’t tell him to befriend Harry I feel like Draco would be friends with Harry.

  • One flaw in your idea is when you get to the 7 Potters plan is Sirius wouldn’t replace Hagrid he would replace Mundungus. While Sirius would want to keep Harry safe he trusts Moody’s plan. And as he is riding with Moody the 2 of them together keep Voldemort busy. Voldemort aims a killing curse at Harry Sirius but Moody in an attempt to block it spins their broom into a nose dive. Voldemort believing he got the right broom goes to investigate the wreck. Harry (Sirius) is alive’ but injured Voldemort takes aim and Sirius disapetates with Mad-Eyes body. Everything else plays out the same except Bill is the one who gets hit with a one of Snape’s spells.

  • On how Dumbledore opened the snitch: I think what we have to remember is that at this point, Dumbledore was the master of the elder wand. This wand is capable of feats no other wand can do, like repairing Harry’s broken wand with a simple reparo. I think Dumbledore could’ve opened the snitch with a simple alohomora.

  • What if Cedric reacted fast enough and did not die in the Little Hangleton Graveyard? What if The Flying Ford Anglia somehow sensed Harry in Privet Drive and transported him to the Burrow after the Aunt Marge incident? What if the flying car had participated in The Battle Of Hogwarts? What if Percy hadn’t interrupted when Ginny was about to tell Harry the truth about the diary, Basilisk, and the Heir Of Slytherin, Tom Riddle?

  • Mundungus would ABSOLUTELY be replaced by Serius before Hagrid. A loyal/willing Hagrid (even magicless) is 1,000% more valuable than Dung and I’m pretty confident everybody in the Order would agree. Other than this, killer article as always!! The Harry Potter what-if’s are the best thing on YouTube in months.

  • There are 3 things I would really like them to go into: 1. If disarming someone makes you the new owner of the wand, how do you explain the training they did in Dumbledore’s Army? 2. Why can some spells be cast just by saying the incantation but some require more intention and thought? 3. Why does dark magic destroy horcruxes instead of good magic?

  • I love your what if articles! Can you do one on what if James potter survived? Maybe Lily still has to die for the prophecy to work but what would happen if James raised harry? Would Sirius still go to Azkaban? Would they even survive the war?? Edit: Yeah James normally dies first but what if Voldy was just feeling nice at the time(yes unlikely but still)? What if he just stupefied James as he’s not in the prophecy and not a threat due to being unarmed? He then still goes upstairs, tells Lily to move, kills her, half dies after attacking harry so the prophecy and mothers love protection still happens. But… James wakes up the next day..?

  • We were so close to having Sirius live. I don’t think Sirius would have died in the 7 Potters. The Death Eaters didn’t give the killing curse incase they would get Harry. They killed Moddy cause his Harry disapperated so there was no need for him. Even so, I don’t see why Sirius couldn’t fight of Bellatrix, he’s clearly capable. I just don’t think Sirius would have died here.

  • This brings up something that always bothered me about the movies. We never see Harry get the mirror until he suddenly has it in Deathly Hallows Part 1. It would have been so easy to film Sirius giving it to him in Order, but nope. That would be like if we never saw Harry get the Cloak until he first uses it in the library.

  • An alternate idea I had for Deathly Hallows: Sirius replaces Mondungus (or however it’s spelled), the idea being to take advantage of the assumption that Moody would be escorting the real Harry to set a sort of trap for the Death Eaters. From here, you could have either one or both live/die, though I think it’s more likely that they either die together, having taken out some powerful but non plot relevant Death Eaters, or they both live, having fought them off until Harry used Expelliarmus and alerted the Death Eaters to which Harry was the real one.

  • I would like to say that Sirius probably wouldn’t insist on taking harry in the battle, or, he would, but they would convince him otherwise. This is the guy who suggested Peter as a secret keeper because it was less predictable, this is the man who handed Harry to Hagrid because Dumbledore had a home for him, even though Sirius definetly wanted to keep him with him.

  • Honestly, my favorite thing to think about with Sirius surviving to the 6th book is whole Tonks liking Sirius vs. her liking Remus. He probably would’ve helped Harry see her real crush sooner and it would’ve been fun to see Sirius poking fun at Remus or helping him through his conflicted feelings for her. Honestly, I could see both as a possibility.

  • I could make the case for Sirius being scatterbrained after 12 years in Azkaban, his “nice one James” even if just in the movie, is evidence he’s not “fully there” any more. Perhaps he figured Harry knew about two way mirrors, never called Harry because he might be somewhere that could be bad to have that done, and just figured he never tried (busy or what have you,) but that’s a VERY hard case to make more than the above. He knew Harry was raised by muggles and spent his summers with them, so should have known no one would have told him about the mirrors. Another question is why didn’t he tell Remus he was doing it, as Remus would have ensured he told Harry how to use them.

  • You could have had Pettigrew check if harry was alive at the end and die to the silver hand then. Since you’re altering the events at Malfoy manor anyway. Also, I think the fact that harry being master of the elder wand is still a factor in the final confrontation in the original story, so having that not in play anymore might bring about a different end. I think all would be the same but Harry would die as well, since the elder wand had no allegiance to him

  • Yay. another Draco Redemption arc. He really is one of my fave character from the books. So much to can do with him. Many layers and just ripe for a brilliant redemption arc. I always felt like Draco was never meant to be fully bad or evil. He was just arrogant and a product of his surroundings and upbringing. I always feel like it would have only take one traumatic experience or one out of character moment from Draco for him to do a full 180 as a character.

  • Great article as always, but I have to disagree on a very important point: There is no universe where Harry tells Sirius about the Death Eaters at the Ministry and then sits at Hogwarts like a good little boy, knowing the Order is on the mission. Harry will 100% certainly still find a way to get to the Ministry. Very probable that they still try to use Umbridge’s fireplace to travel by Floo Network with the DA acting as lookouts, all of them get caught by the Wicked Witch and her Inquisitorial Squad, and the rest of it plays out as it did originally. Maybe Harry even grabs the Prophesy, thinking it will help, given that he doesn’t actually know what it is and only that it’s the weapon Voldemort has been trying to get his hands on. Harry and Sirius still ultimately end up fighting side-by-side, and Bellatrix catches him with an Avada Kedavra. Nothing significantly changes all-in-all.

  • I love Draco’s part in this so I see why you would chose for Aberforth to not get the mirror, but why wouldn’t he? He usually buys it from Mundungus who stole it from Sirius’s house after he died. If Sirius is going to be with Harry during the Battle of the 7 Potters, there would be no need for him to bring it with him that night so he probably left it at home. So I think it’s entirely possible that Dung still would have stolen it and Aberforth still ends up with it. The only difference is that Albus is normally the one that tells him what it is and he’s already dead, but I’m sure Lupin or one of the other order members could tell him just as easily.

  • Hey, I love your guy content, has really rekindled my love for the Harry Potter Universe. If you are taking suggestions, one idea that would fascinate me is “What If Fudge Believed Voldemort was back after the Goblet of Fire?” Id imagine it would complete change the story onwards. Would Dumbledore have an extra year searching Horcruxes? Is there any motivation for Harry to form the DA? etc Have a great one <3

  • Omg I just found out you have these articles on Spotify as podcasts!!! Just thought to look you up on Spotify and I am absolutely thrilled to find that your articles are there!!! I like to listen to your articles while driving, but obvs having YouTube playing while driving felt wrong plussssss now I can listen to you and do other things on my phone at the same time! 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 This is actually so exciting!

  • I have a theory idea! What if you make a series in parallel with What if harry was in sythiren… And do what if draco was the chosen one / sorted into gryffindor this could work because you could imagine narcissa and luscious getting bribed by dumbledore to spy, this is something that is actively going against voldmort during the dark days. Thus making it possible for draco to be the chosen one And if you wanted to add a little flavor Draco’s parents could have been killed by voldomort and he ended up going to some relatives who are just way more open about how much they hate Muggles and their pure blood status giving Draco a culture shock and character arc when he gets the hogwarts. I really appreciate your reading this #supercarlinbrotherssarethebest⚡️

  • Love your scenario articles so much respect and keep up the epic work. How about. WHAT IF RANROK WAS IN THE HARRY POTTER MOVIES. You have not done any articles on this excellent game yet so when you and i hope you do you might chose this so im going to keep sugesting it but not in a pushy way just so you oy know its there 😃👍.

  • 10:42 This always baffled me as well. Like, Voldemort, the most powerful wizard after Dumbledore, won’t come to the Ministry himself to get a prophecy, an errand that might take like 2 minutes, and no one can recognize him if he disguises himself(as Harry so people think he took it), but he’s okay with positioning over 10 Death Eaters in the Hall of Prophecy, 10 of whom have recently broken out of Azkaban?! Like, if he gets caught, he can escape with his eyes closed and hands tied. But, if his Death Eaters get caught, he loses the most powerful of his followers. Always seemed a dumb plan to me, but I know Voldemort isn’t dumb. Thanks for explaining!

  • More than simply his concern for the power of the Elder Wand, Dumbledore would not want to die from either the cursed ring or the potion as it would give away too early that he had been hunting Horcruxes. Dying by Snape’s hand covers for this, even though it was never made explicit; he never confided in Snape the real reason, giving him two plausible ones instead — saving an old man from an agonizing death and to save Draco’s soul. Those may be true, but Dumbledore put a lot of effort into hiding the fact that he had discovered Tom’s secret and this act was his final attempt to preserve that for Harry and buy as much time as he could for the quest. This would still hold whether Draco was given the assassination mission or not.

  • Yup, I’ve always been so annoyed at the mirror and how it effects the ending of the fifth book. Why does Sirius think Molly would disagree to him giving Harry the mirror? If anything she would be happy as she also would have a way to contact the kids without Umbridge knowing. And why does Sirius phrase it as if it’s an emergency beacon if it’s just wizard face time? And, like you pointed out, why doesn’t Sirius bring it up the first time Harry is in the fire? And, not really related to the mirror, but why doesn’t Harry just step through the fire to Grimauld Place when he goes to check if Sirius is there? Then he could have searched the entire house and there would be no risk of getting caught. And if Sirius actually wasn’t there, there would be a decent chance Lupin, who also lives there, or any other Order member, were there, that he could seek help from, and he would then already be in London, where the Ministry is just a few Underground stops away?

  • That was always such a big frustration because Siriuses death was so tragic. And I never understood why wizards would rather stick their heads into fire than use this “mirror face time”? (Does anyone know if they made a article on how new spells are created? It never made sense to me, like what do you have to do? And also why some spells were described as hard ones. What did it take to produce a “hard” spell, aside of focusing, saying the words and waving the wand right?

  • My one issue with this is sirius could not replace hagrid at the battle of the 7 potters because hagrid was a safety precaution since polyjuice potions can’t turn someone into hagrid since he’s half giant and you can’t use the potion to change species (causes the issue with hermione’s time as a cat) this saves him from being kidnapped by a polyjuiced death eater

  • I’m still thinking Harry goes to the ministry at the end of 5. Once he learns what the order’s planning he’s gonna want to be a part of it whether they let him tag along or not. It might play out the same as you say, or Harry might trigger something like being pushed into retrieving the prophecy or motivating Voldemort to become more involved in the fight earlier given it’s not even starting on his terms. There may be some dire consequences in there.

  • Okay, but if Kreacher ends up telling Harry that Sirius was captured through the mirror they either have no way to get to London or Luna, Neville and Ginny have to join them because it is Luna who suggests Thestrals. So either they don’t make it to London or they end up telling Snape or it plays out the same because the others join them.

  • The thing is Voldermort couldn’t get the prophecy himself like you said. Luscious even tells Harry that only the one whom the prophecy is about can retrieve it and if you remember when they’re looking around Neville stops and says, “Harry it’s got your name on it” which means that prophecy is just for Harry and he is the only one who can retrieve it and Voldermort wants to know what it says so needs Harry to retrieve it for him. Best part of this version though is the fact that Dobby doesn’t die!

  • Idea: What If Voldemort Never Took Harry’s Blood, and returned by using the blood of any wizard who hated him, like Wormtail had suggested? Would Harry’s name still come out of the Goblet Of Fire, and if not would Cedric survive? Would Dumbledore realise that Voldemort had returned without Harry directly telling him? Would Umbridge still be hired at Hogwarts in Book 5? Would Sirius survive the Battle of The Department Of Mysteries? Would Draco still be tasked with killing Dumbledore, and then would Snape still kill Dumbledore? If Harry didn’t go to the graveyard, Voldemort wouldn’t learn about the Twin Cores, so would he learn this during the Battle Of The Seven Potters and if so would that cause any major changes to the story? Could Neville kill Voldemort after Harry’s death in the Forbidden Forest, and would this mean that in this scenario NEVILLE would be the Chosen One? So many questions, I’d love for you to explore this one!

  • 17:57 Well, Dumbledore wouldn’t want Snape to kill him right away anyway if he still had a full year to help Harry. He’d still want to take advantage of the time he had, just like in the original continuity. In fact, they might even be able to make more progress without being distracted with Draco trying to kill him.

  • 5:56 I just realized something! The child will have “powers” the Dark Lord knows not can actually mean more things. One, of course is love. But, when it comes to the final battle/duel between Harry and Voldemort, the “powers” could also mean truth(about Severus Snape and Dumbledore’s death) and/or the literal power of the world’s most powerful wand. Like, Harry has its allegiance and Voldemort knows nothing about it!

  • I agree with most of it, although I find it difficult to see Draco being respectful to a teacher when there’s nothing in it for him, even when depressed. Especially if that teacher happens to be Hagrid. And I imagine he might not feel too much love for Slughorn either, considering Draco’s not one of his favorites, and Slughorn invited Hermione the mudblood and Ginny the blood traitor to be part of the slug club. Not to mention he favors Harry as well. He wouldn’t have much of a reason to sit there quietly. Other than that though… yay Dobby lives!

  • I finally have a what if idea that feels easier to kind of plan out. “What if the Order had warned Harry about using Expelliarmus” would hedwig have survived, would the real Harry not be revealed making it so the golden flames not reappear, and on that note, since the death eaters wouldn’t split off, would this make it so it was just more chaos for every group making it harder for both sides to focus, or would this have created more casualties (or at least injuries) for the order; would the chaos give Snape more time to perhaps eliminate some threats on the death eaters side.

  • I was always under the impression that Voldemort coming was a spontaneous decision against his better judgment. And that he only came because he felt through Harry that the prophecy was destroyed. So I’m not sure if he would have endet up in the ministry if Harry didn’t come. I think that it would much rather be that kreacher would have stolen the mirror and then we end up in the same spot.

  • What if? Idea: What if Hagrid had given Harry to Serious the night James and Lilly died? I am currently rereading PoA and Hagrid actually asked this question himself during the professors little happy hour story telling time… I tried to answer it myself and it might even end the same way one of the others does where Harry ends up living with Serious and becomes and anamagus so it might not be worth doing a whole article on but I thought I would throw it out there

  • I didn’t see anyone else mention this but one problem with your ending is that Nagini the snake is not dead before Harry dies the first time. So Voldemort can’t truly die. You’d need to add something about Harry killing the snake first before dueling Voldemort, maybe he does it quickly when its first discovered he’s awake, like he jumps up and catches everyone off guard and uses Septum Sempre to slice the snake in half. That would clear up that loose end quickly.

  • Big thing: if Moody lives, Harry and friends can just stay at 12 Grimmauld Place, because it was retrieving the eye that alerted the Ministry and made them abandon headquarters when they’re followed. So… Maybe they don’t go to Malfoy Manor at all, since they can just return to Grimmauld Place after every outing. They wouldn’t be out and about where they could be captured by accident. Also, Ron could have just walked back in if they’d stayed at HQ. (He says in canon that he wanted to come back as soon as he left, but couldn’t find them.) Hard to see where it plays out to after Moody survives…

  • @SuperCarlinBrothers, on your next quiz show, could you also have ChatGPT participate, you can just ask him to answer each question in a sentence (with no multiple choice). I tried out a few of the old classic questions and it came up with a very high rate of answers, but some odd ones as well. I think this might be a very interesting article!

  • I also feel that Harry and Sirius (in your universe in 5th and 6th year) could have just had nice, casual conversations each day. Sirius isn’t being sent out on missions in OOTP, so he is available. I feel that just basic chats about quidditch, what spells Harry learned that day, Mauraders stories, even what Harry and friends had for lunch would have been such a good thing for both characters mental state. Also, I think Sirius would have been officially exonerated at the end of OOTP. Hermione even says something along the lines that he’ll have to stay hidden until the ministry admits Voldy is back and catches real death eaters. BUT THEN….you have the implications of the now head of the “most noble and ancient house of black” swaggering around, which I imagine would be like Malfoy on steroids.

  • I thought of an interesting what if that involves Sirius. Harry and Hermoine were able to rescue Sirius and Buckbeak using the timeturner and, though Snape correctly suspected Harry had a role in it, he was never able to convince Fudge or anyone else of it. However, what if Harry and/or Hermoine were caught by Snape or Fudge wandering around after they had freed Sirius and the Ministry found the Time Turner. I think that Dumbledore, as he did in Order of the Phoenix, would fess up to being the mastermind behind the plot, but this would lead to Dumbledore, and possibly Harry and Hermoine, having to get out of there to avoid arrest. Assuming Harry and Hemoine go into hiding with Dumbledore, as well as, I suppose Sirius and Buckbeak (I think the Ministry would now think of checking the skies as they could put two and two together on the Buckbeak escape as well.), that ruins Harry’s plans, at least for now, of going to the Quidditch World Cup as well as going back to Hogwarts for his fourth year. Now, this is bad for Harry, Hermoine, Dumbledore, Sirius, and Buckbeak, but it’s also a snag for Voldemort and Pettigrew, as this ruins their plan of entering Harry into the Triwizard Tournament and using Harry’s blood to bring him back. So now this brings Harry & Co into an interesting position. They’d need to find Pettigrew, alive or dead, and bring him back to prove that what they did was the right thing. However, Pettigrew is currently with Lord Voldemort, who just so happens to be looking for Harry Potter as he wants him for his rebirth plan.
