The Seth Rich hoax highlights how Fox News has perfected the art of poisoning public discourse with shoddy journalism and outright lies. Seth Rich, a 27-year-old Democratic National Committee staffer, was murdered while walking home from a bar in Washington, D.C., on July 13, 2016. The Fox News Channel reached a private settlement with the parents of Seth Rich, who had baselessly rehashed the conspiracy theory. The decision to settle came just before its marquee hosts, Lou Dobbs and Sean Hannity, were set to be questioned under oath in the case. Fox News devoted outsize attention to the Rich story, repeatedly rehashing the conspiracy theory.
The murder of Seth Rich became the subject of wild conspiracy theories, some planted by Russian intelligence operatives and promoted by allies of President Obama. Seth Rich’s death brought incalculable loss to Joel and Mary Rich, and baseless conspiracy theories on Fox News made it even worse. The settlement between Fox News and Rich’s parents, Joel and Mary Rich, was publicly disclosed Tuesday, but with no details about the terms.
The conspiracy theory around Seth Rich’s death, one of Sean Hannity’s favorites, wasn’t just organic Internet rumor; it became political when conspiracy theories took off on social media. The settlement between Fox News and Rich’s parents, Joel and Mary Rich, was publicly disclosed Tuesday, but with no details about the terms. The Fox News scandal may help unearth what happened to the Democratic National Committee.

Here Pakman, let me ask you a question and let’s see if you can answer it intelligently and logically: “How is Crowdstrike more reliable and dependable than the FBI to investigate whether or not Russian hacking had occured?” I’ll wait.. On top of that, doesn’t it trouble you that we recently learned that Crowdstrike didn’t even give a assessment of their findings to the FBI??? Try and answer that. Again, I’ll wait… Tick.. tock..
I have been arguing with right wing idiots about the murder of Seth Rich for months. I live in DC and there is a problem with crime. Murders and robberies happen all the time. The conspiracy was also preposterous. I love conspiracy theories but this one never held water. Now I’m glad to see I was right the entire time!
Why did the FBI deny having the content on Rich’s laptops in their possession? If they don’t have the physical laptops, who does? Why have they asked a court for 66 years before they will release the data? Why has the FBI defied a court order to release the contents? Can anyone genuinely answer these important questions?
I’m not big into conspiracy theories like this. But I don’t think this defense does the story any favors. It’s not suspicious he was only shot in the back of the head twice while walking home? I mean that’s pretty weird. Maybe I was supposed to connect your story with some other context I don’t know. But to me that sounded like this is a conspiracy theory we know that because he wasn’t quote-unquote robbed he was shot in the back of the head twice while walking home so nothing is a foot. I mean that’s not evidence against the conspiracy, it only changes his place of death
David, I disrespectfully disagree. I am a lefty, your target audience, and on a personal level, I am sorry that you have also been drawn into this censorship… But I unsubscribed before for a good and well justified reason. – Your woefully incorrect and for me, intolerable views on Tulsi and Warren. …And here you again show your naivety and establishment bias. Also in response to the tools who have already commented – if Seth’s killing was indeed a robbery, why was he still in possession of his valuables, and shot (x2 ‘double tap’ execution style) in the back of the head? That’s how robberies go do they? .. (I’m not American, people have attempted and failed to rob me in the past, but we don’t have guns here so.. Obviously shooting me anywhere was just not an option, lol) Why should we believe that at all? Also… Assange essentially confirmed that Rich was his DNC leaker, the person responsible for thst data ‘hack’. – See David… This is my problem with you. You inform your audience based on your stupid (you aren’t stupid, so in my view; corrupt) beliefs – and abstain from using expert analysis which those presenting opposing viewpoints, are actually using. You are as bad as Ben Shaprio in terms of your lack of data based integrity. Experts have stated that the information taken from the DNC ‘hack’ was taken at such a speed that it was not possible for that information to be taken in any othet method than ‘on site’ physically downloaded. My parents don’t know what I am capable of technology wise.
“Thinking thoughtfully” is the opposite of an oxymoron, an oxymoron is using an adjective with its antonym, like “smart idiot”. Using two words that mean the same thing is a tautologism, like “clever genius”… just fyi 😀 PS love the show, can you do some earlier call-ins so we europeans can participate?
There’s other factors, Mr. Pakman. Such as, DC Metro declared it a botched robbery, because of a string of robberies in the area. However, this string of robberies did not result in anyone getting shot, and with their stuff getting stolen. Meanwhile Seth Rich had nothing stolen, and was shot twice in the back. Technical know-how to run a CP command, which is how the data was transferred according to the metadata, only requires someone with access to the server, not logging out and going to the bathroom. It’s not that complicated. Was he murdered? Yes. Was he murdered by anyone in particular? Yes, but we don’t know who. Russia deniers? Are you shitting me? Explain this, we have a distributed system of over 1,000,000 voting machines spread across 50 states, hundreds of counties… and Russia’s entire military budget is smaller than our spy agency budget. Read the Mueller report. Don’t assume his conclusions are correct, read what he actually says. Crowdstrike deleted the server files, so no investigative agency has seen the server files. The wikileaks file metadata has a date of 5/23/2016. Julian Assange announces he’s got Clinton emails on 6/12/2016. Mueller’s own contention is that Guccifer 2.0 gave the data to Assange on 6/14/2016. Here’s what you need to do, Mr. Pakman, go to Russian newsmedia, circa, 8/2016-10/2016, and see if they have a consensus on whom is best for Russia, Clinton or Trump… here’s a hint, dude, they didn’t. They saw Trump as risky for different reasons.
What about Julian assange’s comments when it happened. Too me that really seemed like Julian saying “hey! I’ll never release my sources and that a promise, but something weird happened here” and for him to comment on that in that way seemed funny to me. At the time of writing this Idk if David addresses that
Unfortunately as a semi logical species, we are prone to jump to conclusions. The 5 Steps to Critical Thinking: What is critical thinking? In general, critical thinking refers to actively questioning statements rather than blindly accepting them. Critical thinking results in radical free will. 1. The critical thinker is flexible yet maintains an attitude of healthy skepticism. Critical thinkers are open to new information, ideas, and claims. They genuinely consider alternative explanations and possibilities. However, this open-mindedness is tempered by a healthy sense of skepticism (Hyman, 2007). The critical thinker consistently asks, “What evidence supports this claim?” 2. The critical thinker scrutinizes the evidence before drawing conclusions. Critical thinkers strive to weigh all the available evidence before arriving at conclusions. And, in evaluating evidence, critical thinkers distinguish between empirical evidence versus opinions based on feelings or personal experience. 3. The critical thinker can assume other perspectives. Critical thinkers are not imprisoned by their own points of view. Nor are they limited in their capacity to imagine life experiences and perspectives that are fundamentally difference from their own. Rather, the critical thinker strives to understand and evaluate issues from many different angles. 4. The critical thinker is aware of biases and assumptions. In evaluating evidence and ideas, critical thinkers strive to identify the biases and assumptions that are inherent in any argument (Riggio & Halpern, 2006).
well i would not call it a conspiracy, and the evidence doesn’t support robbery (nothing robbed no witness that scared off robber). That just leaves us with someone making sure he was dead which is called murder. then of course the man who could have said russians martians or unknown. I dont know how jullian was better off by implying it was seth. Do you think Julian never knew who seth even was? But as pakman stated, cause he has done his research and own investigation, Seth wasnt smart enough, good enough or capable of getting data from where he worked! All i heard was the investigation was quickly shut down. Guess not, Cause pakman said so! Persoanlly I dont think the “murder” has been solved and I dont think seth was robbed. Does this mean im a conspiracy nut? I think the conspiracy is on the side of robbery when nobody was robbed!
Doesn’t it seem unusual to be taking a walk in the park at 4:30 in the morning to anyone but me? How many just get up at that time of day and go for a walk in the park? I find him strolling through the park at 4:30 in the morning to be very suspicious behavior. I bet he wasn’t bird perusal or feeding the squirrels. Why was he there at such an inappropriate time in the first place?
Explanation: Google dropped their web UI’s “sort by date” feature and too few journalists know about its “site:.ru” syntax. Anybody who was able to use these features back in the fall of 2016 knew about this (and that both the “Hillary wants WW3” and the “Hillary suffers from Parkinson’s” meme originated from .ru social media) before the election.
So… Street Robbers in DC shoot the victim twice, in the back of the head. OK. That’s a common thing. That’s how they do it, as it is customary among all “give me your wallet” street robbers, all across the world. Then, also customary (and fairly common), robbers leave without taking the wallet, expensive i-phone, even the wrist-watch… That’s also a common thing, as that’s how it’s done. Nothing really to see here. Basically and finally, It was an innocent robbery that, alas, just went wrong… Cynical people would say that robbery actually didn’t happen (as nothing was taken) – but that something else did. Naagh… Nothing to see here. Seriously. So remember, as we all know – it’s a russian hoax… Worse, the whole FSB and GRU had to be engaged to post “stuff” on Twitter, as to confuse us and sow discord amongst us… Stupider public than ours would fall for that… It would start asking questions… Would be, as stupid are, suspicious and would try to apply critical thinking. Not us. We’re not those people. After all, the Russian’s sinister plan was to make us think… And waste our time thinking… Instead of doing something more important. Like building a new, shiny rocket for example. Luckily we have this, only seemingly, under-developed person to “explain” all of it to us. Otherwise we would fall for this Russian crap.
