What Is The Tarot Card’S Aspect Ratio?

The standard aspect ratio for tarot card designs is typically 2:3 or 1:1.5, meaning that the width of the card is two-thirds of its height or vice versa. This choice of aspect ratio is important in tarot card designs as it affects the overall look and feel of the deck. Standard tarot cards typically measure 2.75 inches by 4.75 inches, which equates to 7cm by 12cm. However, some decks may feature cards smaller or larger than this standard size.

Designing tarot cards involves a subtle balance of creativity, symbolism, and storytelling. Every element, from artistic style to color choices, plays a vital role in conveying the meanings. Most tarot decks stick to a few standard forms, scales, and aspect ratios. The standard tarot format is a flat, 2-D, 2.75 x 4.75″, vertically oriented, rectangular card with rounded edges. Some decks use mini, poker cards. In 2019, Krisztin Kondor and William Rader of Artisan Tarot of Denver, Colorado, published a restored and redrawn edition of the Nicolas Conver tarot, adding artwork to bring the cards up to the popular tarot aspect ratio of 2.75″ x 4.75″.

Tarot cards are generally printed as portrait oriented landscape oriented images on stock ranging from 2.75″ x 4.75″ to 3.75″ x 5.5″. They can vary between bridge size (1.555), poker size (1.4), and tarot card size (aspect ratio of 1.727) if used. A standard tarot card measures 2.75 x 4.75 inches or 7 x 12 cm, which is common for many tarot card decks available to beginners.

These displays were better suited for word processing and computer-aided design. From 2005 to 2008, 16:10 became the highest-selling aspect ratio for LCD monitors, making up 90% of the notebook market. What is the golden ratio for cards?

The Golden Ratio, also known as the Golden Mean, Divine Proportion, or Golden Section, is a mathematical ratio based on the number phi, equal to 1. 618. It can be applied to business card design to make it visually appealing and can be applied to many compositional elements. To implement the golden ratio into typographical elements, multiply the body text size by 1. 618 to determine the complementary font size.

For example, if your body text is a 10 pt font, multiply 10 by 1. 618 to determine the complementary heading font size. The same principle can be applied to the body text size, dividing it by 1. 618 to find the appropriate size for the body text.

The Golden Ratio is fundamental to good design, helping designers find the perfect balance with layout, picture placement, columns, and text kerning. The Fibonacci sequence, which consists of numbers from 1 to 21, is directly related to the Golden Ratio (1. 618). By dividing a number in the sequence by its previous number, the result will be approximate to Phi.

  • Been busting my arse for 6 months with POD. Im on amazon merch (no sales), built my own website for POD sales, im on teepublic, etsy as well as FB page and have spent on advertising. Nothing. Big bust. Im beginning to think the real money in POD is doing a youtube website and affiliate marketing and selling courses. perusal a lot of so called gurus on POD and following their suggestions but realizing nothing. Makes me wonder about some of the claims being made. Not easy and not passive. No $1000 a day. 😂 😮 🙄

  • Thanks for the article. I agree great colors but the skeletons were all messed up… too many hands… missing limbs… etc… I’d never sell design like those as I’d hate to buy them and realize that there is issues with the images after purchasing. Furthermore Kittl’s t&c have become very bad, so not my go to for sure

  • As someone who does Tarot I have to say dont do this. It will show that you only do this for clout and have no respect for the art at all. Your customers wont be satisfied when youve got no knowledge about the cards or what they represent. It will show and its really annoying when you happen to buy a deck thats made like this with weird imagery, no cohesive style and where the symbolism wont make sense. Its an art to to interpret art and the esoteric meanings. People who use the cards do it to guide others. Its the same if you come across some readers online. You notice when people are in it for the money and not for the reason it should be used. Fine that its something called as “for entertainment purposes” however, many who turn to tarot are in need of guidance, wise words of affirmations to keep going in tough situations. I do however appreciate you showing that it can be done, but I hope others can understand what Ive said above before just randomly making “stoner skeleton” type of cards. If its to make tshirt ect then sure its a category that can sell with some humor, but if its to make the cards themselves, dont do it on a whim please 🙂🙏
