i’ve heard Jewish leaders that say the pronunciation has been preserved, and that this ‘we don’t know it’ fallacy is a fallacy. 🤷♂ But when i read verses like ‘if my people who are called by my name’ (2 chr 7) and ‘a house by my name’ in Jer 34:15 and in Amos 9:12, ‘Gentiles called by My name’, but especially Isaiah 52:6, “Therefore My people shall know My name; Therefore they shall know in that day That I am He who speaks: ‘Behold, it is I.’ ”, it seems to me that Scripture speaks as if we will not lose His name. There is absolutely no scripture in the Hebrew ThaNaK where YaHuWaH commanded His chosen people and first born son Israel (Exodus 4:22-23 and 11:1 Hosea) that His name was too sacred to be uttered or that it was never again to be spoken into the world. Not calling the Creator by His true name is disrespectful and removes esteem from His character. With thousands of dialects in the world, the Creator cannot have one name. Names have meanings. Somebody is called Mawunyo (ie God is gracious) and another is called John. The two names have the same meaning. According to the Ewes God’s name is Mawu and it means ‘He who surpasses all’. He responds to this name in our culture. What we need to do as human beings is to learn to relate with God on His terms. Whose name to the Creator is authentic? Whose language is from God and whose is not?

Guys it’s ok if we don’t know something we’re here to learn. People are still going to university even an old age, people are still going to college, people are still in school . let us learn. We didn’t learn Hebrew as part of the curriculum in the UK for example so hey let us learn. It doesn’t take away from the fact that there is a God and God exists otherwise we would not be here.
Shalom Ayelet. I read from my ebook bible, in Exodus 3:14-15, the word “God” is “Elohim” instead of “Adonay”. It confuses me. Which one should be correct in the text？ And what are their differneces？But surely I know your gist of this article-dont think too much about the name because God is so much more than names. Shalom, I believe God’s Name given to Moshe was Yehovah and the full Name of Yeshua is Yehoshua. Yehovah bless you in Yehoshua ‘s Kadosh Ha Shem. I agree that our God isn’t petty, but if we can know His Name properly,I believe it also honours Him. Above all, I believe it is important to understand His Name and character is Kodosh, set apart completely from all evil. For He truly is good.
The Name Theory (יהוה) I have a theory as to why this is so. It’s partly inspired by Ayelet. It’s a valid question to ponder how and why the God of all things created, permitted His name to be verbally forgotten throughout the centuries, despite its spelling and letters still being known to us today. Keep in mind that I believe the verbal pronunciation has been willingly “permitted”, rather than “allowed”. The subtle difference between “permitted” and “allowed” lies in their connotations. “Permitted” tends to imply a more deliberate or conscious act of authorization, suggesting a decision made with consideration or permission granted. On the other hand, “allowed” is more general and may imply a less deliberate or conscious act, simply indicating that something was not prevented or prohibited, by which I believe was not the case. “The Elohim of Israel permitted his name to be verbally forgotten concerning its proper pronunciation.” But, why? Interestingly, He did not allow this with His word, which, if anything, should have, considering it had over 40 authors and was written over thousands of years. It survived only through preemptive scribal work and human preservation methods, all without a missing scroll within its divinely intended closed canon (library). I now like to refer to this library as a “Divine word spoken to Israel (for Israel and the nations).” My theory concludes with Professor Carmen Imes’s work and a simple acknowledgment of Exodus 3:14-15. Having heard of her first on the One For Israel podcast, then her being present on the Bible Project podcast regarding “taking the Name in vain”; she understands its meaning as how people who bore the Name should live and act in the world, rather than the focus on its pronunciation or usage as coarse language (which, in my and her opinion, should also be avoided as it would undermine the responsibility of our keeping His Name holy before nations and people-groups).
In two times in my life when ill or confused I prayed and prayed and did things for weeks or so and I heard a distinct “Hey” the last one recently. It was from a strong male voice and Instead of cowering like the first time I was open to listen but nothing else happened. Now I’m hearing the Hey sound when spelling this name of God with two Hey sounds. I have no idea but I thought it was interesting. Not only that… another thing happened to me and where we live. We had a basketball goal and in June of 2020 it displayed two fish on the ground as if they were drawn with chalk. Super amazing miracle.
Interesting how this article ended up in my recommended feed. I’m a Christian, so while we have a different understanding theologically speaking, I have a deep interest in the old scriptures, primarily the Pentateuch (or Torah). I believe in the Mosaic Authorship of the Pentateuch, and I believe the events inscribed are historical, including Genesis and the Creation week.
It is hard to draw close to anyone of whom you do not know their name. Though the “original” pronunciation maybe be obscured, coming as close as possible to that name is better than no name at all. Adoni, meaning, LORD, is a title not a name. God did later reveal his name and with the Tetragrammaton we learn that those letters can be pronounce Yahweh and anglicized to be Yehovah or Jehovah.

A Rood Awakening website interviewed Nehemiah Gordon, a Hebrew scholar, who found it hidden in many old, Hebrew manuscripts. It was, singularly, one vowel pronunciation, Yehovah. Now, is the man lying? It did not seem so. God knows. He encouraged others to do the research. I have gotten an interest in learning Hebrew so I can know this Name as Yeshia gave it to Moses. I do not think that Adonai, Lord, is a correct or truthful way to address the Name. He is MORE than just the boss of the universe. He is Lord because of His everlasting love, His divine, eternal Being. I am drawn to this loving, Eternal Life Giver, so superlative in His caring ways, His glorious beauty. I feel there is much to learn about this precious Name. Yeshua literally means, “Yehovah’s Salvation.” Names can convey much about the natire of a person, if given by God.
I believe you are mistaken. Even in the first century only the rabbis and priests retained the SECRET knowledge of the ancient pronunciation, and part of the initiation of new rabbis was the passing on of the secret. Certainly in Martin Luther’s day, his rabbi friends claimed to know and told him it was ‘Yehovah’, which, being German. he wrote as Jehovah, which then passed on to the English speaking world with the Hard ‘dsh’ phonic. Jehovah lasted a long time but began to fall out of use after the Jehovah’s Witnesses hijacked the name for their false sect.

If the name is not so important to know, why do the scriptures place so much importance on it. Yeshua prayed to his father that he made his name known to the disciples. The scriptures clearly say there is “no other name” by which men can be saved. That implies you have to use a certain name if there is “no other name”. I’m sorry, but you have been misled if you think the correct name is not important. The scriptures and even our messiah says otherwise. It is important.

The phraze I AM, means being …( eternal existence ) But only a few know the significance of what God is really saying here in Exodus 3 … When man uses the phraze ” I AM “, he is anouncing the presence and power of the infinite God over and IN himself … Whatsoever he connects to that statement, that HE WILL BECOME !!!! What you see there is Gods name written in Hebrew. His Name was not lost at the Destruction of the Temple. The Hebrew language did not use vowels that is why it looked to us to be so different. The scriptures you used were given to show what his name represents as to his personality. Now in different languages his name will have different pronunciations but that does not change the name he wants to be known by.

If the name YaHH יהּ/YaH יה is the noun with which we refer to YHWH we have that in the imperfect qal form 3psm the form Yayuah /Yayuhah יָיוּהַּ, so the name according to the qal of the root YWH should be pronounced יָהוּהַּ . If instead it were the causative hifil form of the same root we would have Yayiyhah/Yayiyha/ יָיִיהַּ/ the name YHWH would be pronounced YahivaH/Yahivha יָהִוהַּ ; while the active intensive Piel form would be יֵיוֹהַהּ this would lead to the pronunciation יֵהוֹהַּ . Psalm 83:18 ” May the people know that you, whose name is Jehovah, you alone are the Most High over all the earth”. How is it possible to glorify & sanctify God’s name if no one knows who he is? If an individual has a name, the animals, plants, natures, universe, stars has it’s name then what makes you believe that God does not have a name? The word God or Lord is a ” Title” that’s not his personal name. If you and me has a personal name and by calling our personal name to give us credit for a good work we’ve done, isn’t it gratifying? Shalom. You’ve thought wrong when you said The Character of El isn’t limited by His Name. The truth is, The Name of El describes The Characteristic of El. It’s the other way around from what you thought. Thus, wrong to say His Name is less important than His Character. The correct way to say should be, His Name represent His Character. OK I am a little confused with this teaching. The letter V was not even invented until 1386 the original YHWH was a wa sound. From my research The letter V was interchangeable with U not W. If you go back to the paleo Hebrew you’ll see that it was a W and changed in the modern Hebrew, also I don’t understand when she says the name God, when God isn’t a name it’s a title just like Lord is a title Adonai is a title and they all happen to be titles of false deities. And in exodus 23:13 YHWH states; make no mention of the name of other mighty ones nor let it be heard from your mouth. I think that kind of says he does care what we call him. Yes, on who God is, but no on His name. You cannot use a substitute name, like Hashem, for the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Hashem is not a translation or a transliteration of YHVH, it is a substitution, which is specifically against the Law of Moses. Nowhere in Torah does God allow a substitution to be used for His Name. On the contrary He instructs those that believe in Him and obey His commandments to Lift up His Name, not to substitute it for something else because you believe His name is too precious to lift up. Using the Name He gave is paramount to Him, otherwise He would not have given it. To use a substitute is to create an image, or more accurately, an idol of the real Name. YHVH is a God of order, righteousness, and utmost Holiness, there is no compromise in Him therefore no compromise in His Name.

I am a believer in Yeahua. I grew up going to both trinitarian and non- trinitarian churches. I for one have never believed in the trinity. I at one point believed that Jesus was Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. But I saw the error in that theology. I still wasn’t convinced of the trinity but was questioning it. I remember one day I was in prayer and thought to myself, ‘If I could ask God any question I would ask him, are you one, or are you trinity?” I felt foolish just thinking that question. However, God did answer me. He gave me in my mind Moses at the burning Bush asking God what his name was to give to the children of Israel. He said. I AM THAT I AM. As those words still fresh in my mind. I just stood there just repeating that fraise. And the epiphany! I understood it. Are you 1? I AM THAT I AM. Are you a trinity? I AM THAT I AM. Are you many ? I AM THAT I AM! He is bigger than oneness. He’s bigger than the trinity. People believe in one or the other because that is what our feeble minds can only comprehend. People say you can’t put God in a box. But we put him in boxes. A box of oneness. Or a box of the trinity. But that day. Any box and all boxes were completely and forever shattered to trillions of pieces that can never be reconstructed. I am not a trinitarian. I am not a oneness Jesus only. Important question, why God did not preserved the pronunciation of his name? I tell you why, it is because we know his name, Jesus, the name that is above all other names. Another question I would like to ask is that there are some churches(in fact I considered them as heresy for quite a time) in Hong Kong China here kept saying “live out your BEING”, “we Christians have our BEING”. The so-called priests kept saying it. It is just too difficult to understand as they don’t explain what “being” is. And what’s more, they don’t even translate the word “being” into Chinese which is our native language. And I doubt this for a long time since I believe God’s words arent supposed to be that complicated as stated in the bible. And now that I saw this article, it just astounded me that God’s name has the root of “being”. Thus I’m thinking if those “churches” are blasphemous if referring to the third commandment. “Being” should belong to God instead of each one of us. Am I right on this topic or am I overthinking?

Remove the d and you have the Heavenly Father Name as OO’AH…. Amazing how they cover up the Truth and rewrite the history so you would never know! Except for those that the spirit reveals it too.

God does not have many names, only one name that is in Hebrew as יהוה and may be transliterated into English as Yahweh (YHWH) and translated into English as Jehovah (JHVH). One teaching of Jesus about this was that when God said “I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob” He didn’t say “was” but “is” and that God is the God of the living, not of the dead. This tells us that they are alive in heaven. The dead are really those that are dead to sin, enslaved by sin, like the drug and sex addicts, those whose spiritual lives are basically dead, and after death are dead to life with God.
