Harris’s book, The Magic Misfits, explores themes of courage, unconventional families, and friendship. It also touches on the idea of not fitting in, a common theme in many stories. Is The Misfits for kids?

The Misfits is a heist movie that features a diverse team of wealth vigilantes, including a woman who kills through her physical prowess, a con man master of disguise, and an explosives expert who reappropriates money from wealthy scoundrels to give it to the poor and deserving. The film takes on a heist of significant magnitude and difficulty in an attempt to steal terrorists’ gold from a high-security facility in the Middle East. They recruit high-end, debonair thief Richard Pace (Pierce Brosnan) to join their ranks.

The movie is high on style, with each member of the Misfits having skills associated with illegal behavior, such as killing, conning, and blowing stuff up. However, just because they are talented at doing bad doesn’t mean they are bad; they are trying to make a world that’s just. The young crew outsmarts the Boomers, whose actions are always selfish, even dashing, stealthy Pace is an absentee dad.

The main character, Pace, is a shady version of James Bond, but he is put in his place repeatedly by the “kids” who teach him life lessons. This empowering atmosphere may feel empowering for younger generations to see themselves as the ones putting things back in order, and the scenery is full of snazzy expensive cars, fabulous locations, and even a cougar walking a cougar on a leash. Overall, if a child is mature, they should be able to watch this movie.
