What Were The Pythagorean Numerology Numbers’ Esoteric Meanings?

Pythagorean numerology is a system that assigns numerical values to letters, allowing the exploration of the mystical and philosophical significance of numbers. Originating from the teachings of ancient Greek mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras, the system posits that numbers hold a profound spiritual influence on an individual’s life. The Life Path Number is the main number in the Pythagorean Numerology system, which focuses on understanding one’s personality, desires, and destiny.

The five core numbers in Pythagorean numerology are life path number, expression number, soul urge number, birthday number, and personality number. Esoteric numerology is the art and science of understanding the spiritual significance and orderly progression of all manifestations. In Qabala, six is the number of the sephira Tipereth, representing the beauty and spiritual love manifested in the natural universe.

In Pythagorean numerology, the number represents leadership, independence, and innovation, cooperation, balance, and the idea of the Father. Geometry is the Mother of Creation, generating the forms, and each number inhabits the form that is “destined”. The earliest known systematic cult based on the rule of numbers was that of the Pythagoreans, who thrived in the 6th century BC.

In conclusion, Pythagorean numerology is a form of divination based on the teachings of ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras, which emphasizes the importance of numbers in understanding an individual’s personality, desires, and destiny.

Which number do the Pythagoreans believe was a lucky number?

Pythagoras, an ancient Greek philosopher, believed that numbers held significant meanings. The number 3 was considered the perfect number, symbolizing harmony, wisdom, and understanding. It was also associated with time, birth, life, death, and the divine. This concept is evident in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, where the prince Tamino is rescued from a lobster by Three Ladies, servants of the Queen of the Night, dressed as nannies or governesses.

They guide him to Sarastro’s temple, where the spirits only appear in Sarastro’s kingdom. The number 3 is also associated with the Freemasons, a group that Mozart and his librettist Schikaneder were members of. The theme of 3 is repeated in the piece, both on stage and in the pit.

What God did Pythagoras believe in?

The Pythagorean way of life was based on the belief in the transmigration of souls, which led to the principle of “the kinship of all beings”. Pythagoras, a semidivine figure associated with Apollo, believed in remembering his earlier incarnations and knowing more than others. Early Pythagorean beliefs were influenced by shamanistic traits and ritualistic religious practices. Pythagoras taught purification of the soul through music and mental activity, aiming to reach higher incarnations. His teachings included the challenge to be like one’s Master and to come closer to the gods. Salvation and the study of the cosmic order became a leading idea in his school.

Advanced ethics and political theories attributed to Pythagoreanism may reflect ideas later developed in the circle of Archytas, the leading 4th-century Pythagorean. However, the current portrayal of Pythagoras as the educator of the Greeks, who publicly preached a gospel of humanity, is anachronistic. Some Peripatetic writers interpreted certain principles as applicable to all humankind, such as internal loyalty, modesty, self-discipline, piety, and abstinence. They also interpreted the higher view of womanhood, property community, and the parallelism between the macrocosm and the microcosm, such as the Pythagorean idea of the cosmos as an organism.

What is the mystery of Pythagoras?

The Teachings of Pythagoras emphasized the idea that reality is essentially mathematical, with a system of principles behind numbers. These principles form the foundation for many Western concepts, including the Divine Proportion. Pythagoras used words and symbols instead of numbers, creating symbolic representations to mirror the universe’s concepts. The circle is the parent of all shapes, and when mirrored, two mirrors are created, creating a foundation for all numbers.

The overlap of these circles allows each one to share the center of the other, creating the vesica piscis (fish’s bladder). From this shape, triangle, square, and pentagon can be produced, justifying the existence of further number principles. Pythagoras’ ideas were based on the symbolism and beauty associated with the Divine Proportion.

What is the Pythagorean spirituality?

Pythagoreanism, a philosophy developed by ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras, emphasized the concept of a structured way of life and the doctrine of metempsychosis, which refers to the soul’s transmigration after death into a new body. The most prominent Pythagoreans of the fifth and fourth century include Philolaus and Eurytus. Eurytus is often mentioned alongside Philolaus and is likely a student of Philolaus. Aristoxenus presents Philolaus and Eurytus as the teachers of the last generation of Pythagoreans, and Plato visited Italy to meet them after Socrates’ death.

To be a pupil of Philolaus and teach the last generation of Pythagoreans, Eurytus would need to be born between 450 and 440. The sources are confused about the location of his birth in Italy, suggesting that he may have studied with Archytas. Eurytus appears between Philolaus and Archytas in the list of Pythagoreans from Tarentum, suggesting he was regarded as the pupil of Philolaus and a teacher of Archytas.

What is the esoteric doctrine of Pythagoras?

Pythagoreanism was a philosophic tradition and religious practice that emphasized an austere life and the belief that the soul was buried in the body. The highest reward for a human was to join the life of the gods and escape the cycle of reincarnation in another human body. Like Orphism, Pythagoreanism held that the soul was buried in the body as a punishment for a committed offense and could be purified.

Pythagoreans engaged in rituals to attain purity and were inspired by ancient Egyptian philosophy. Early Pythagoreanism was based on research and knowledge from other philosophers, with Pythagoras’ teachings making direct references to the philosophy of Anaximander, Anaximenes of Miletus, and Pherecydes of Syros.

Pythagoras focused on the significance of numerology and believed that numbers explained the true nature of the Universe. In contrast to their Greek contemporaries, Pythagorean philosophers represented numbers graphically, using dots or psiphi (pebbles) to represent numbers in triangles, squares, rectangles, and pentagons. This allowed for a visual comprehension of mathematics and a geometrical exploration of numerical relationships.

Pythagorean philosophers defined perfect numbers as those equal to the sum of all their divisors. The theory of odd and even numbers was central to Pythagorean arithmetic, with the distinction between even and odd numbers being direct and visual.

Why were numbers important to the Pythagoreans?

Why were numbers important to the Pythagoreans?

The Pythagoreans believed in the existence of nine heavenly bodies, each with unique mystical properties. The number 1 symbolized unity and the origin of all things, while the number 2 represented the female principle and the number 3 represented the male. Even numbers were female, odd numbers were male, and the most perfect number was 10, which represented unity arising from multiplicity. The Pythagoreans also recognized the existence of a tenth body, Counter-Earth, perpetually hidden by the Sun.

The ancient Greeks believed in polygonal numbers, which were arranged in various patterns to discern arithmetic and mystical relationships between numbers. For example, 7 = 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1. The number 10 was so significant in their view of cosmology that they believed there was a tenth body, Counter-Earth, perpetually hidden by the Sun.

  • I actually had a brief out of body experience at 15… Before even hearing things like “Form is emptiness, emptiness is form” … Long before learning of the similar experiences of monks & others… I experienced being completely formless and as see through as air. Hovering above my body at the ceiling… I was frantic, thinking I had somehow unexplainably died I can’t explain how it happened beyond saying I suddenly became ‘light’ (in sensation) and slipped out from the top of my head up towards the air… I could still think. I knew my name. I was aware of where I was… I just had no form! Just as easily as I had slid out, I seemed to droop back in at some point. Again, no idea how I got out or back in or why I was given that experience. After I didn’t speak of it for years. Now I tell whoever is open enough to listen as I think it is important for people to realize whatever “we” are… We are not our bodies. We shed them as a snake would shed old skin. It’s astonishing even to me still and I experienced this! Been nearly 17 yrs later, still blows my mind every time I think of this event that lasted mere seconds. Always makes me wonder about things like Alzheimer’s though. If I could remember who I was separated from my body, how is it our biological brains can cause us to forget? How is our soul connected to the brain at all… It’s absolutely incredible.

  • Absolutely fantastic and accurate, at the same time! Beautiful connections between the physical, and non physical… The way you went back to Pythagoras, and found the root of the equation and the problem forecast within human understanding, the symphony, and cacaphony of it all… Absolutely brilliant.

  • The most fascinating part of finding myself here.. is that I just learned that I am a life path 5, 2020 is a 5 for me and 2021 is a 6. During this year everything that I have tried to accomplish has been met with disappointment. My intuition tells me it’s time to leave all my comfort, and security behind. Venture beyond the norm. Hopefully your articles can show me and others more on how these numbers guide our lives. Thank you for your amazing work that you’ve done so far. It met me on a day that I truly needed it.

  • Considering that everything has a vibration, i guess that it is safe to say that even souls have a specific vibration and that there is a strong resonance between our souls and our bodies. This would also explain how we come in tune with our “higher self” when we raise the vibration of our body. And since the vibration of babies’ bodies is unadulterated by external factors, we could say that babies know best what they need to thrive when it comes to nutrition. That explains why kids don’t like to eat veggies, but most parents ignore or are unaware of this fact. I just love it when science “shakes hands” with the spiritual.

  • Kind knowledge – how the Egyptian world nourished the Greeks – those who became renowned appear to have spent many years there – much more than university and not in doing research – just acquiring what was there already to know. There must have been some truly phenomenal teachers there to pace their students through all these years if that is what they did.

  • WOW, WOW, You have left me speechless 😶 I came across your article and when I read the title numerology It caught my attention and decided to watch the content. I was blown away by the learning experience of history. It has been fascinating & exquisite. It felt like I open the door to another world/dimension that definitely this door will never be close because I want/need to see the world in this dimension and educate myself. (Great job and thank you for sharing your work). Secondly, English is my second language and by listening to your voice with the perfect pronunciation it is a great learning experience too. Thanks…Cecy

  • I must say the thing that I enjoy the most about your articles is it brings a sense of Mystery and a sense of fascination in a very mundane and day-to-day world. I wasn’t a big believer in numerology because I felt like it was a waste of time but then the way you explain it is very scientific and I am also a trained musician so I see that side. But I have to say since I’ve done my life path number it explained things that have happened to me in the past. I am currently 65 years old and there are situations in my past that I’ve regretted but then when I looked at the life path the things that didn’t work out seem to lead to situations that are more in line with who I am! I think maybe I can finally let those regrets go! Thank you for that!

  • I was wondering which website that I subscribed to has become so elegant and beautiful in its narrative, storytelling and edit. So I double checked to look at the name of the website and then notice that its a website that I havent subscribed to. I was completely shocked at the end of the article to hear that its your first. You definitely are great at this. I hope you will keep the same humility and sincerity in your future articles. Most of us lose the intuition aspect and become more focused on making articles for the view counts.

  • A friend sent me your Intro to Synchronicities. Which led me to watch Angel Numbers. And then Numerology. That’s how it started… and now I am hooked. I need to binge watch every article! I was flabbergasted when I heard you say this was your first article! I am impressed beyond words. Your narration is clear, articulate, and perfectly paced. Elson, does your numerology reveal your expression number to be 33? That’s my guess based on the description of 33 in the name numerology article… “a gift for explaining complex ideas in ways that are clear and easy to understand.” If not I still consider you a master teacher. Thank you for this website.

  • If you squint at the morning sunrise, very careful, you can see the Sun’s spectrum of light, and look closely to your eyes, now see the Micro scopic pulse, of light and invisible nucleus wave’s, flowing, this is non – Stop, when ever the sun shines, string away, there’s much more to say, I knew him as Pathos, thank you for this article, peace, love and understanding, tod .

  • Good information, just want to add that when Pythagoras left Egypt it was under duress. That was the period of history when Egypt had been invaded and subdued by Cambyses. Pythagoras like most of the other Egyptians was exiled to Persia. During his time in Persia, Pythagoras then learned the sacred knowledge of Zarathustra. The combined teaching of both of these ancient cultures, became the blueprint he would later use in his philosophy.

  • Thank you for actually making some important and over looked points about PT and not getting side tracked with beans !!! I go back and forth about the importance of numbers. On one hand…. everything thats manufactured around you is realized in design thru math !! On the other… the totality of our existence, all 9 billion, cant be related thru numbers ???? Can they… abit much to swallow.

  • I’m a layman, however much like the seasons change every 4 months or so, and everything gets new life, this is explaining our soul gets a new life every 80 yrs give or take . .. I like the idea of that .. Noone has ever been able to prove anything, however or perhaps rather that’s the point, so that we live our lives spontaneously.

  • I loved this article! And just recently named a website in my club “Music Of The Spheres”🎶🌌 because I want to share my love for music and how it shows us deep insights into our own lives… I also want to learn more about my numbers and how I can learn to live in harmony with their vibrational energy waves… Thank you for continuing to make such meaningful, relaxing, SoulFull and inspiring articles! 🙌✨🌊

  • This article explains very complex facts in a simple scientifically arranged manner. We in India believe the soul is beyond the perception of moden science. This article reminded me of having read Cheiro’s book on numerology in my school days, all forgotten by now. It was about numbers associated with your birth date. Thanks for the article.

  • Something that inspires a deeper way of thinking… Well done…I believe that God is one…. And if He’s one,he I three… The Father. The Son, and the Holy Spirit…A Mystery. The reason behind this is over whelming with it’s convoluted and magnificent logic… The Great Truth is in the Word… The Word made flesh…🌹🙏🕊️

  • It is most amazing that I came upon this article. I just finished book guided by intuition, sages, philosophers etc etc. Writing for my own expressions in the book titled MY JOURNEY TO THE COSMOS WITH NUMBERS at the end game me the fact that we are a code – a code of creation- which has been hidden in plain sight.

  • 💗😊💕awesome first article honey. Yes, please cover the topic of the Mandela Effect…..I just left a comment about it of yesterdays article on Linda Moulton Howe, Earthfiles website(title; May 25, 2022 – What was 1949 Project Aquarius’s mission with ‘Alien creatures’?), that the sun used to be yellow for me my entire life, I’m 53 years old now….and somehow it changed to this small, extremely bright white sun in 2014….I’ve noticed changes since I was around 10 years old….no one around me ever remembered how things used to be. I was always left in the state of asking myself “how” and “why” did things change. Then in 2016, I clicked on a article about the Mandela Effect and I was shocked!!!!! Many other people, whom are scattered all over the earth also remember the same changes I remembered…Some of us think that maybe we are dying in one earth and popping up in another. This might actually be proof of the multi-verse theory.Thank you, so much for your very pleasing article. I’ve just recently gotten interested in the topic of numerology….ever since a few years ago staring at a clock across the room from me, I noticed that the combo of numbers across sideways and up and down all boils down to 3,6,9…..it was staring me in the face the whole time on every clock and watch I’ve always looked at all my life—-how COOL!!!!! LOVE and PEACE out to ALL💕😊💗

  • I prefer using the idea “The Universe, and everything in it, is ALL Divinely orchestrated, which creates the symphony of life as we know it.” The content on this website is positively extraordinary and marvelous.. I absolutely love and resonate so powerfully with every article I’ve watched and have become totally enamored with this website.. Thank you kind sir..MUCH LOVE ❤❤

  • Few months back, I drove my vehicle and saw a another vehicle coming from a mile away. I knew immediately who was in the car. As the vehicle came closer to mine, I saw their face. I wasn’t shocked, I sensed the person. The person was in shock to see me, eyes flashing, neck jerk, etc. I find that very interesting, I am so in-tune but this person wasn’t? I could sense them, emotionally happy and I knew but this person oblivious? Why?

  • Now just understand “awareness with choice” as conscious + subconscious information system Aware of our own entropy (disorder, low information) structure at a subconscious systemic level, we distribute ourselves by choice into new bodies over and over to interact and make better choices – away from individual self focused choices (greed, fear of the unknown) towards cooperative low entropy (systemic high information) choices

  • very impressed, in line with Vedic Philosophy. The mathematical numbers is derived from Sanskrit numerals . Today it is called Indo Arabic Numerals. The Arab traders took it out of India. Be in harmony with nature and cooperate with the will of the divine, this is the path of dharma. Read Bhagavat Gita As It Is or any authorized version, understanding life will be more clear.

  • Presentation well done and would like to qualify a couple of things…on the constant of numbers, science often views the universe is ruled by mathematics while as you did say that mathematics was a representation of the universe I would like to re-emphasis this point. The universe is not mathematical not a mathematical structure but the human view of the universe can be easily viewed as following a mathematical pattern as determined by man-made constants, not whole numbers, some to many decimal places and are the measurements of a set of rules. Both in the cycles of nature and his transmigration of souls, humans too follow nature in cycles we generally refer to as reincarnations. To understand this in the context of the transmigration we first need to understand the construct of the human body. We are not just molecules, atoms and the vibrations that go to make us in this physical existential world but also a non-manifest or metaphysical parts that include our spirit, which gives us our drive, memories like Karmic memories that guide us and the soul by which we gain awareness, consciousness, mind and the intellect. Not the first to note this structure, Pythagoras lived 600 hundred years before Jesus who re-iterated this same rationale as the gnostics, only to be lost for two thousand years except for the odd flash of light of reason by many people along the way. Today many of us struggle to find reason and meaning to our lives against the tide of social destruction engineered for end times.

  • The doctor told my mom I am gone”dead” he pulled out a pipe out of my body, I had diphteria, I can remeber thinking that, that feels much better without the pipe. That was 7.30 in the morning, I woke up about 12 and wanted to go to the loo. My mom saw me and fainted, my aunt came running to help her and she nearly fainted, I couldnt figure out whats going on. After that experience I thought I was very naughty and was refused to go to heaven. I can remember hearing and seeing everything that went on arround me, we are strange beings, be blessed.

  • Thank you for this beautiful and inspiring article! I would like you make similar article on J.S. Bach because in some way he also tried to understand the Universe through the music. To me J.S. Bach is more than just a composer. As someone famous said He is is 5th Evangelist. And his music is more than just a music but like a language through which God conveys His message. I can’t stop listening to his music since I’ve discovered his Sublime Beauty, Peace and hormony. Even started to learn to play keyboard because of his music. I am sure the World would be the better place if we all listen to His Music. Anyway, thank you again for this documentary and may God bless you and loved ones.

  • Excellent article. As one who considers smarter than the “average Bear” (Yogi Bear. lol) after seeing this article I am humbly feeling pretty dumb to have not heard of or come across these concepts until now. I wish nature or the Universe would have “unfolded” itself before I was 50! lol. This seems one of a number of VERY important concepts important to achieve a balanced and rewarding life, yet not a word of it in public schools, nor college. I’m starting to smell a conspiracy here. God forbid people throughout the world have peaceful, meaningful, and rewarding lives, right? (One concept I would like to pass along: DO what you Love! If you do what you love for your career, it’s not work, but passion! Nobody likes “work”, but how do you think people feel about “passion” in their lives? Do what you Love! You won’t be disappointed! And never listen to anyone, anyone who tells you otherwise!)

  • Thank you for a beautiful article. The Doctor who was struck by lightning shares what other people who have experienced particularly physical but also other forms of trauma, musophellia, an unexplained connection or otherwise unknown musical development. From being completely musically inept to genius or oblivious to obsessed or hearing music continually in the absence of actual music and many other experiences. A article on this little known phenomenon would be amazing.

  • I have studied numerology considering the languages of the world. Taking into consideration the effects counting and the probabiity of sound usage, and the symbology to represent sound. The Letter K for example is consistant in its shape throughout many languages. Depicted as biforcation of some sort, represented usually by two seperate parts that point 90° at an angle from one another at a 45° angle usually to the right or the shape of a U. Even in proto semetic and cuneiform let alone most modern languages such as japanese, cyrillic etc. I think of math as also geometry. Consider our numbers 1-10 1 a straight line 2 and 5 opposite wavelengths. 3 matter bounces 4 matter passes through 6 and 9 matter enters and returns 7 matter scews its direction towards the gravitational well 8 matter and space is infinite(to be debated but probably true) 10 energy can be on or off. The fundamental laws of nature can only be represented by that which can be imagined and realized in our physical reality.

  • At 570 BC: 1) Theory of heliocentric model; 2) Theory that Earth is round; 3) Equality between the sexes; 4) Great advancements to mathematics. Pythagoras might have been one of the most “ahead of his time” human beings… And to think that in the 21st century so many still defend flat-Earth nonsense and misogyny. We are such a slow learning species. We need many more good-nature geniuses to give us a hand in evolving.

  • Great vid. It verifies most of my beliefs. My belief in re existence, but my belief in the soul is different. I believe i have a soul but i am not the soul. To me what is called the soul is the blueprint for the physical body and it operates the physical body during each life, but it is not conscious that it is conscious. The so called soul is a nature unit and is only conscious of its function. It operates the body and the 4 senses for nature, but the conscious self is conscious that it is conscious. Anyway i enjoyed the vid.
