The Magic Chef MCO165UW 1.6 cu. ft built-in microwave oven has a thermal fuse that cuts off power to the microwave if it overheats. To replace the fuse, follow these steps:
- Check the breaker and power source for any issues. If the fuse does not work, replace it.
- Locate the Magic Chef Microwave Line Fuse, which is a safety component that protects the microwave from power surges or electrical issues.
- Mount the 1″ ceramic in line microwave fuse into the “noise filter” control board. If the line fuse blows, the microwave won’t start.
- Use a multimeter to test continuity to determine if the fuse is at fault.
- Unplug the microwave and ope the casing. The fuse is usually secured with a fuse holder or clips.
- Carefully release and remove the old line fuse, taking care not to damage any parts.
If you are unsure of how to do this, contact a service technician for repairs. The fuse is typically located near the power supply cord and looks similar to a regular glass fuse. If the fuse blows, the microwave won’t start.
In summary, replacing the fuse on a dead or no-power issue is crucial for the functionality of the Magic Chef microwave.

This exact solution solved my broken microwave (power on, not heating)…2 yr. old model MCO165S (stainless-steel front, Black Friday deal at Home Depot). After breaking down 2months ago, I was searching YT on how to remove the unit from hood to install a new replacement, then I found this article. I followed all the steps, now the unit is working and heating food like before. Thanks…saved time & money.
Thanks, great article. I don’t think this is too complicated, and what is the danger if unit is unplugged? Yesterday I turned the light on which is mounted under the microwave and over the stovetop and there was a loud pop. Microwave turns on but no light and the carousel no longer turns. After a few minutes the unit shuts off completely. I will try to replace fuse.
