In terms of voice recording, Bull learned tricks and techniques from the director, such as special effects with mouths or chewing gum. During the first year of production, she had no visuals to reference, so she relied on her imagination to imagine what was going on.

Ok, people say these two fell in love way too fast; but all the stuff Bog does for her in this scene; catching her when she falls even though she can fly, helping her get through the thorns when she’s uneasy about it and giving her a flower without expecting anything in return, is probably why Marianne falls for him so fast. I get the feeling Roland wouldn’t have done any of that.
i personally love this movie. its a personal favourite. the general ” beauty and the beast ” is brought to a new level and whole new meaning ( none of this is ment to shit on beauty and the beast this is just a compairison of the morals it shows ) in beauty and the beast it goes a similar direction. the princess is taken and falls in love with the beast for who he is on the inside. but THIS movie? this movie. its NEW and like water to a dying flower. making a brand new bloom never known before to the genera. in strange magic marianne is strong and builds herself up because she WAS the damsel in distress. and it fucked her over royally trusting in a douchebag to take care of her and him being ultimately the thing to crack her. she learned she cant let a man or any person be what holds her up and invested in her own life and herself. being the lovestricken princess wasint for her from the start and this let her stray from that path and find her own way. bog has his own land that like him is seen as ugly and unlovable. when they first meet they even have chemistry in their swordfight. that spark is almost immediately lit before the warmth shared in this song. bog showing the beauty in his land and in turn in him as well. he believes hes showing marianne the night and what exists there being beautiful to him. the glittering in her eyes looking at the spiderweb and how it glitters in the light of the moon and her looking back at him with that same glitter as shes looking at something she deems beautiful still, but hes showing her him and the beauty in him.
Listen, I know this movie is cringe at a lot of points and it definitely has its flaws, but the love story between Marianne and Bog was just 🤌 I mean, the hints are everywhere. From the very beginning, they were flirting while fighting. He told everyone to be quiet because she was getting annoyed. He initially agreed to let sugar plum go because Marianne desperately wanted to save Dawn. Their shared connection over heartbreak and being unconventional. THIS ENTIRE SONG! And don’t even get me started on how they interacted when Roland showed up. Their relationship was perfect, which is the sole reason why I come back to this movie again!

When I was younger, I had seen a article on YouTube from this movie. It was of Marianne singing Can’t Help Falling In Love. I just thought it was some article and didn’t really care. Years later, in scrolling through Disney Plus and I see this movie. I recognized the character and I was totally shocked. Great movie!
I discovered this movie completely by chance about 2 months ago and I really liked it. It’s true that there are a lot of songs and some stereotypes but I found the film not bad overall and I really liked the songs (especially Strange Magic haha). I’m obsessed with this movie but unfortunately I don’t know anyone who loves it as much as I do or who knows about it 😢. It’s a shame. This movie has potential. It’s sad that it was such a failure. despite everything, it will forever remain in my heart. It’s definitely one of my guilty pleasures (sorry for my English, I speak French and use Google Translate)
Honestly, a part of me still loves this movie. It’s like one of those weird gems, and the animation is very pleasant to look at, such as the wing movement. It’s charming in it’s own way, despite the plot (from what I can remember) was not that good, but I still liked the direction they went in with it aka the romance between Marianne and the Bog King!
Ughh… George Lucas wrote some well-written strong heroines in Star Wars (such as Leia and Padmé), but Marianne from Strange Magic is exactly what those characters tried to avoid. Marianne is the embodiment of a misandristic strong heroine; she is the definition of the “Girl who acts like a dude for no reason” trope. When you think about it, the plot point regarding Roland cheating on her (including his forced villain twist) was contrived just to prop up Marianne’s change of character, which is not even any better or more interesting that his. After the cheating scene, Marianne suddenly starts acting like a guy and abruptly starts having a dumb belief that love is something that makes a girl weak (which is an annoying trait so many poorly-written strong heroines have). Marianne even sings and sticks out how much she acts like a dude and acts sexist towards guys. Plus, it doesn’t even go anywhere because Marianne would eventually fall in love with Bog King (which was also developed too late in the last part of the movie). Padmé has Anakin as a love interest yet she’s also a strong heroine (The same for Leia having Han Solo as a love interest while also being a strong heroine). This proves that love doesn’t make a girl weak. Strong heroines who believe that just have a mean-spirited prejudice against men.
K I’ll admit I was resenting love due to a fresh heartbreak just at the end of my 10th year. Went to Toys R Us before they closed down that summer to get a bike and I saw it. Then thought why not so I bought it and kept cheering on Marianne as she put them boys in their place. Got disappointed when she fell again, but now I just enjoy it for it’s actual self. Instead of a way to get rid of my anger and sadness instead of beating the ever-loving crud out of someone and then crying my eyes out after.
The staging heres really good!! This my my firts expodure to this song as a kid and it was pretty awsome! Anyone else noticehough that those little pixie thingys floating around Mariane are always in the 1st half, but never shown again throught the rest of the movie? 😂 (oh and while i really do love the animation in this movie..3:07..whats with his face? Its so mooshed!) 😂😂
I love the way she rejects Roland, but I find infuriating that both her father, sister and the entire court react as if Marianne wasn’t being reasonable and expect her to make it up with him. Like, her broken heart means nothing, uh? But it’s magnificent the way the fairy Roland was cheating Marianne with is caught in the middle, “Awkward”, Dawn? Seriously? You don’t see magnificence even when it pinches your nose, girl.
This movie, as funny as it is. Felt like a waste of potential, ngl. 🙁 I really did like what the movie was trying to do, and what it was kinda going for, but the writing is everywhere, and it didn’t need to be a jukebox musical, or even a musical in general. But let’s say they kept the musical part, but with original songs instead, that would’ve been alot better.
I remember perusal this being rerun for the last time this year. The lore is bare bones but can be adapted, the characters are too developed to the point it accidentally went into Adult!Disney cartoons, and the reviews this all unanimously agree that Disney should just sell it for hopes of a proper rewrite. Plus, Marianne looks like one of Tinkerbell’s friends going to a p*** shoot with Peter Pan directing it?!

Though whenever he was made a fool of off and got his just deserts, it does make such moments more satisfying.
