Roncalli High School in Indianapolis has revealed its new mascot, the “Royals”, replacing the “Rebels” in January 2021. The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) congratulated 16 Indiana schools for being honored as 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools. The Lions are the nickname of at least ten Indiana high school teams, with the most popular choice being the Panthers.
Elkhart High School, home of the Lions, was officially selected by the Board of Trustees after public meetings, input sessions, and student voting. More than 800 suggestions were made, and the winner was chosen after thousands of votes. Frankfort High School is the only school in the country that uses the “Hot Dog” as its mascot.
Hamilton Southeastern’s Roary the Lion was named Indiana’s Best High School Mascot after receiving thousands of votes. Hamilton Southeastern’s cheering section is known as the Blue Crew. Other Indianapolis-area schools that made the 2024 Blue Ribbon list include Heritage Christian School, Paramount Cottage Home, Paramount Schools of Excellence, and others.
Stakeholders at Elkhart High School and in the Elkhart community see lions as brave and proud. Elkhart Community Schools unveiled its new Elkhart High School mascot design after public meetings, input, and school colors.
The Home of the Lions mission is to provide high academic standards and nurturing relationships among all students.
