Which Spells Stack With Barkskin To Increase Armour?

Barkskin is a Level 2 transmutation spell that allows spellcasters to fortify the defense of a willing creature and increase their Armour Class. It grants a natural armor enhancement bonus, which stacks with just about everything beside the amulet of natural armor. The spells are fairly similar to natural armor bonuses, but Barkskin’s bonus does not stack with armor either.

Inherent natural armor (for example, dragon disciple) should stack with natural armor bonus (various polymorph spells), enhancement (like amulet, barkskin), and other enhancement bonuses to natural armor. However, Barkskin’s bonus does not stack with armor either. Armor bonuses stack with all other bonuses to Armor Class (even with natural armor bonuses) except other armor bonuses.

When casting Barkskin, you are burning a Level 2 spell slot to set your armor class to a likely lower value and disabling your ability to use any other enhancement bonuses. You can benefit from Bladesong, the Shield spell, Shield of Faith, Haste, Warding Bond, a Ring of Protection, and a Cloak of Protection all at the same time.

The enhancement bonus provided by Barkskin stacks with the target’s natural armor bonus, but not with other enhancement bonuses to natural armor. Some abilities, like the barkskin spell or amulet of natural armor, specify that they grant an “enhancement bonus to the creature’s existing natural armor bonus”.

In summary, Barkskin is a Level 2 transmutation spell that allows spellcasters to fortify the defense of a willing creature and increase their Armour Class. It stacks with other sources of nature armor, but it does not stack with other enhancement bonuses to natural armor.

  • This and Cordon of arrows r definitely my least favorite spells. I mean this spell is useless for me since I always play dex based characters, literally always carry a shield (so I can get shield mastery), and I love mage armor. So yea my ac is definitely always higher then 16. I mean the fact that it’s a Level 2 spell and takes up concentration and only sets it to 16 just makes me want to up chuck. I mean if it was a better version of mage armor (since it is higher level and takes up your concentration), I feel like it should set it to 16 and then u can add your bonus (And if u think that’s too much again it’s CONCENTRATION!!!) Don’t even get me started on Cordon of arrows. I love the ranger but most of their 2nd Level spells suck sadly.
