Why Do Women Not Participate In Religious Rites?

The study of women and religion explores the role of women in different religious faiths, considering female gender roles and their participation in religion. Religion has been used as a patriarchal tool to elevate status and privilege, with some theories suggesting that women are more religious than men due to their less likely participation in the labor force. Women are working to make religious communities more inclusive, with women’s ordination being one example.

In Christianity, women attend religious services more often, while Muslims and Orthodox Jews attend more often. Ancient Israelite culture also knew of women-led rituals related to fertility, pregnancy, childbirth, and infant care. Pope Francis recently announced that women can read during Mass and recognized the “precious contribution” women bring to the Catholic Church.

Religion has been viewed as the one sphere that allowed for female agency and civic participation. However, some religious norms and traditions can contribute to gender inequalities and subordinate the role of women in society. Some social scientists argue that women are universally more religious than men across all societies, cultures, and faiths, as most religions are created by men to serve the purposes of men and have nothing to do with “divinity and the after life”.

Recent data shows that young women in the United States are less likely to identify with religion than young men. The study finds that women are generally, but not universally, more religious than men in several ways.

Which religion respects women the most?

Hindu texts offer a wide range of views on women’s roles, from feminine leadership as the highest goddess to limiting gender roles. The Devi Sukta hymn of Rigveda declares the feminine energy as the essence of the universe, the one who creates all matter and consciousness. Women are celebrated as the most powerful and empowering force in some Hindu Upanishads, Sastras, and Puranas, particularly the Devi Upanishad, Devi Mahatmya, and Devi-Bhagavata Purana.

Ancient and medieval era Hindu texts present a diverse picture of duties and rights of women in Hinduism. They recognize eight kinds of marriage, ranging from Brahma or Devic marriage to paishachik (against god’s blessing) marriage by force against woman. Scholars state that Vedic-era Hindu texts did not include Dowry or Sati, which likely became widespread in the 2nd millennium CE due to socio-political developments in the Indian subcontinent.

Throughout history, Hindu society has seen many female rulers, religious figures, saints, philosophers, and practitioners of Vedic Hindu rituals. Hinduism has the strongest presence of the divine feminine among major world religions, with the goddess being central in Shakti and Shiva Hindu traditions. Matriarchal theology is prevalent in Sanskritic traditions and village Hinduism, and numerous Hindu communities are matriarchal.

Vedic texts expound reverence for the feminine, with the 10th chapter of the Rigveda asserting the feminine as the supreme principle behind all of the cosmos.

What does the Bible say about women’s role in the church?

The New Testament letters of Paul emphasize the importance of Christ as the head of every man and the man as the head of a woman. They also emphasize the importance of women keeping silent in churches and seeking guidance from their husbands. The letters also emphasize the importance of wives submitting to their husbands as the head of the wife, as the husband is the head of the wife. However, it is important to note that these letters are only one side of a conversation, as all controversial passages are addressed to specific congregations with specific problems and issues.

How are women viewed in religion?

Christians have diverse views on women’s rights, responsibilities, and roles in different times and places. Some believe that women and men are spiritually equal and should be expressed in the Church’s life. However, some patriarchal Christianity equates cultural principles with religious ones to oppress women. Wives are expected to be submissive to their husbands, the church, their community, and God. In 2020, it was estimated that the female share of the World’s Christian Population is around 51. 6.

The scripture in Genesis suggests that women should play a supportive role to men, as supported by passages from Christian Scripture. Women are called to submit to their husbands and stay silent in their shadow. Additionally, a specific passage in Titus calls for a woman to not teach or preach in public assembly, which would constitute the authority of a man.

While the female share (aged 20 years and over) of the World’s Christian Population is between 52 and 53 percent, leadership roles in modern organized churches and sects of Christianity are often restricted to males. In the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Churches, and Oriental Orthodox Churches, only men may serve as priests or deacons. In addition, only males serve in senior leadership positions such as pope, patriarch, and bishop. However, in Christian history, women have been ordained to the diaconate and performed equal duties with male deacons.

Many Orthodox Churches have re-instated them to varying degrees, such as Ani-Kristi Manvelian being ordained and consecrated with her male counterparts in the diaconate at Saint Sarkis Cathedral in Tehran in 2017.

What religions do not ordain women?

The United Methodist Church has a long history of ordaining women, with Anna Howard Shaw and Ella Niswonger being ordained in 1880 and 1889 respectively. In 1956, the Methodist Church in America granted ordination and full clergy rights to women, and since then, women have been ordained full elders (pastors) and 21 have been elevated to the episcopacy. Noemi Diaz was the first Hispanic woman ordained by an Annual Conference in 1967, and the New York Annual Conference did the honors in 1967.

Marjorie Matthews was the first woman elected and consecrated Bishop within the United Methodist Church in 1980, and Leontine T. Kelly was the first African-American woman elevated to the episcopacy in 1984. In Germany, Rosemarie Wenner is the leading bishop in the United Methodist Church since 2005, and Bishop Karen Oliveto is the first openly lesbian bishop in the denomination. Other denominations, such as the Primitive Methodist Church, the Evangelical Wesleyan Church, the Fundamental Methodist Conference, the Southern Methodist Church, the Free Methodist Church, the Bible Methodist Connection of Churches, The Salvation Army, the Church of the Nazarene, and the Wesleyan Methodist Church, also ordain women. Many Old Catholic denominations ordain women to the episcopate and to the presbyterate, but the Polish National Catholic Church does not ordain women.

They are responsible for raising and teaching children, maintaining a Godly household, and referring to the husband on familial and religious matters.

0. 9 of the U. S. population chooses Islam, with 35 members being female. Notable women in Islamic scripture include Aisha, wife of Prophet Muhammad, and Hawwa, wife of Adam. They are active in politics and religious organizations like The Muslim Brotherhood.

Judaism has a U. S. population of 1. 9, with 48 members being female. Notable women in scripture include Miriam, sister of Moses, and 7 of the 55 prophets in the Bible. Women are allowed to hold positions of power, but their main responsibilities are less specific.

Women are not typically in positions of power unless in very rich, powerful families. Where does it say in the Bible that women can preach?

The Bible provides explicit instructions for preaching and leadership in the Church, including the use of phrases like “all of you” or “every one of you”, which includes women. Paul and other New Testament writers use phrases like “all of you” or “every one of you” to guide Christians about preaching and leading in the Church. God does not separate what women are allowed to do in the Church from what men are allowed to do.

Is it a sin for a woman to preach the word of God?

Is it a sin for a woman to preach the word of God?

The Bible supports women preaching and leading in the church, as it affirms God’s call to do so. It serves as a reminder that God is not represented by patriarchy, and the church should not be either. If you feel a call to ministry, take action without requiring approval or permission from anyone in your life. Individual coaching is available for women seeking a sacred space to explore God without the oppression of patriarchy and toxic religious culture.

Trustworthy sources to learn more about how the Bible supports women preaching include “Equality in Ephesian Leadership”, “The Little Women” in 2 Timothy 3:6-7, and “1 Timothy 2:12 in a Nutshell”. Additionally, there are 20 scripture passages telling women to speak, teach, lead, and have authority over men, in the assembly and elsewhere.

Which gender believes in God more?

The study examines the belief in God by gender and the percentage of adults who believe in God. The sample sizes and margins of error for these estimates vary from subgroup to subgroup, year to year, and state to state. The results can be accessed in a chart or table, and readers should consider the approximate margin of error for the group they are examining when comparing with other groups or assessing trends over time. The survey questionnaire provides full question wording for the study. The results suggest that there is a significant difference in belief in God among different genders.

Why are women not in positions of power?

Gender bias represents a significant obstacle for women in leadership roles. Research findings indicate that men are often perceived as more competent and capable of leadership, despite having the same qualifications, which creates a challenging environment for women in the workplace.

Where in the Bible does it say women Cannot be ordained?

The annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is a platform for Christians to discuss hot-topic issues, including whether women can be pastors. Last year, Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church, the largest church in the SBC, revealed that it had begun installing women as pastors. In response, some members of the SBC wanted Saddleback to be disfellowshipped for violating the Baptist Faith and Message (BF and M), the doctrinal confession of the SBC.

This sparked a firestorm, with some suggesting that the BF and M be re-studied to see if it allows for women pastors, while others laughed at the idea. The debate on whether women can be pastors continues to be a contentious issue among Christians.

How does God view women?

How does God view women?

Scripture teaches that God created both men and women in His image to bring glory to Him. Although women were created differently from men, they are not lesser. They help men complete God’s mission and purpose, bringing something to the world that men cannot. Together, they provide a better picture of God’s character and glorify Him by working side by side.

Does God love men more than women? No, no matter who you are in Christ, you are called to carry out His mission. There is beauty in the fact that God created men and women differently, yet equal. Our calling as men and women in the church is to fulfill the Great Commission for the glory of God.

  • I really want to contribute in this battle of achieving gender equality. My parents are looking for a groom for me and there I said to the groom that I need to pursue my higher education and work. No one is approving of this yet. A common answer I get is that ” a woman’s career is not yet important than a man’s”. This is a terrible mindset amongst the men of this modern society.

  • I’m a Sikh and I’m grateful to be one as Sikh Gurus always told that both genders are equal. And to one’s who say women are inferior Gurus replied that those are women who give birth to great kings. If women were inferior then why would God choose women to give birth? And also in Sikhi if you have periods then you are not considered impure or etc. It’s just a natural process. That’s just how humans are. It’s a revolutionary step considering that Sikhi born in 15th century when women was considered inferior to men.

  • My father believes in RamaKrishna, thus I didn’t have these discrimination while growing up, nor my mother. But after marriage it’s a complete 360 degree turn. I am not allowed in the Kitchen, I can’t touch anything and I have to sleep on the floor. Obviously I protested and I didn’t agree to sleep on the floor, but my mother-in-law doesn’t allow me in the kitchen, let alone puja room. This discrimination is prevalent and it’s frustrating as hell.

  • Thankfully my family is pretty liberal. I am never told not to enter the kitchen while I am menstruating. I do everything from dancing to swimming while I am on my periods. I feel women should never be stopped from doing something just because they are menstruating. After all menstrual blood is the only blood which does not come out as a result of any violence yet it disgusts people the most. Sad.

  • Religion evolved through societies. The base of religion was to uphold belief and to perhaps ensure the continuation of civilization through a social structure. But over time, I believe religion has been used as a means to control individuals by dissuading dissent and creating inequality between various sections of society. Women have for too long been oppressed in most societies and religion acted as a means of justification at times leading to religion evolving as less about a belief and more about blind faith and controlling individuals. It is time to filter religion to create more inclusion and equality while upholding faith of the people.

  • Thank you swaddle for this article… Have been waiting for this since long… Women are forced to be religious cos it is a stereotype that if the woman is religious then she is pure🤦‍♀️ . Many girls face problems because of this notion… Even during match making the grooms ask for religious girl cos they are homely and obedient enough to fulfill all their desires…

  • When I was in 5th standard there were Geetha classes conducted in our neighborhood and I went there I used to read a lot of stories since childhood so I knew about all these religious stuffs not only about mine but about most of the religions so it wasn’t much new to me But one day that sir told the story when Pandavas were in the forest they had a pot which gave infinite food till draupadi ate her meals One day when Durvasa visited them Draupadi had already finished her meals so they were out of food.Later Krishna came and helped them to solve the issue. My point here is after finishing the story the sir told us that the moral of the story is that in a house women should not eat at first and should wait till the end even if she is hungry inorder to not to humiliate her husband Even though I was only 10 years old I found it unacceptable so I stopped going there for classes This class was conducted in the name of providing moral values to children and there were children from the age of 3 to 15 attending these classes and hearing all these nonsense which was backed up by the name of culture and religion I wish people could point out the wrongs in religious stories and be courageous enough to say it is wrong instead of fearing the retribution from God If God takes revenge on you, for correcting the mistakes or pointing out the wrong, just because it offends him/her then we can only say that the god is petty and overrated

  • Even as a child I never understood why in my religion, even though my holy book, the quran, claims that women are equal to men and are the beautiful sensitive and petite source of life are considered too impure to pray or touch the book on their periods. my mom told me that allah says women are made more sensitive and i hate that stereotype. its as if that in my religion, women do not and cannot sin. men women and every other gender can sin it is only human to make mistakes. i hate it. women are not sensitive and weak. we give birth we face discrimination and violence and we are strong humans.

  • One of my Brahmin frnd can’t walk in front of her brothers when she’s on the periods.. Bcoz her family believes that it’ll affect her brother’s brain “dimg kharab ho jayega “… May sound ridiculous bt it is 100% true.. In most of the families women can’t cook for their family when they r on their periods Bt don’t u dare to think it for their rest or anything.. They do laundry or cleaning work much more then other days… It’s just they can’t inter in kitchen for cooking Edit :- everyone who is saying that they r Brahmin and never heard of it.. Then guys ur parents must have high moral values.. Bt u can ask them if they ever faced this thing or not.. I’m sure they will answer in affirmation.. It’s not a thing that just one or two family follows and Nobody aware of it..

  • Personally, I feel a lot of problems arise when people are just like, “oh, we’ve been doing this for centuries, what’s the point in changing this?” Instead of properly questioning it. As a Hindu, even Krishna in the Bhagvad Gita tells us to question anything and everything. Traditions are meaningful only when we know their meaning, na? And if that meaning doesn’t satisfy us, or doesn’t make sense in a modern context, what really is the point of having it. Organised religion typically pushes these individual interpretations down, and thus builds a system of rules, not a system where people (whoever wishes to) can find peace through God. At least that is my interpretation of the situation

  • A major reason for absence of female voices in old religious text perhaps stems from the fact that women were not provided education. And even if some higher society women did receive the education (and writing skills), very likely (a) their works has been destroyed and/or, (b) they have upheld the exclusionary features of the society. Someone has to be literate to leave an texual imprint. Sometimes lack of data is also a important data to note that what we are looking at is biased knowledge. Manu wrote, but his household women did not (or could not) speaks indirectly about his own personality.

  • The main reason is those days there were no pads or tampons. Women used cloth and it’s more prone to leakage of blood. So it’s like a resting time for the women from her daily chores and work outside home if any and men take up this job for a week. But sadly, this became discriminated as time passed and taken advantage and saying women are impure during her periods and prone to evilness. A woman shedding blood during her period is the only blood not shedded out of violence but out of creation but still it’s considered most dirty. So using the logic of patriarchy, the entire human race is DIRTY,IMPURE.

  • One of the most devoted temple Kamakhya which is Shakti Peeth where maa Sati’s Vagina fell, and we have have belief here that during the Ambabuchi temple remains close as Maa Kamakhya Bleeds during these 3 days every year…. One day while I was bleeding myself I went inside and asked Devi You also bleed I also bleed Then Why I should not enter your place when we both are same – WOMEN.

  • Banning burqa and niqab is completely fine. Not only France, many muslim majority countries (ex. Morocco) did it. These kind of dresses threatens the security as well as threatens the women’s choice to dress how they want. It’s because women who wear Burqa most of the times criticizes women who doesn’t wear it. Also, it’s a sign of discrimination. Not an Indian, but I think to assure equality between male and female rejecting religion is a good idea. Because more or less, every religion discriminates women in a certain way. So it’s quite hard to find a solution within religious stuffs

  • In assam there’s a temple of Durga called kamakhya temple.. vagina of the goddess is worshipped there n the concept of menstruation is actually celebrated there..so no hinduism in which we worship goddess in the warrior form actually is quite n most feminine in its approach towards women. There’s some wrong rumours around menstruation.. women r kept away from working in kitchen to rest which is required during those times n from temple is bcoz of some other spiritual reasons similar to the concept of yoga n not bcoz it’s impure..so atleast do proper research before propaganda

  • It’s hard to reconcile with religion, when they seem to constantly reject you. They can either adapt a less rigid view or women can and eventually will lose faith in it. And as known and mentioned here, women do bear the foremost responsibility in households to uphold and pass on religious values. Religions all over the world will have to come to terms with this. To adapt change or lose their representatives en masse.

  • This is really saddening, I mean when I was in class 6 .. there were classes for ” menstruation” and all they taught was about – how we are impure.., shouldn’t tell anything about this, that it’s ‘ embarrassing ‘. That felt sooo uncomfortable and discouraging. They all made it upe like “taboo” like it’s something to be embarrass of..

  • It must be remembered that the basis of Santana Dharma is the Vedas. The four Vedas never state anywhere that a woman’s body is impure or that she cannot do poojas during menstruation. Prohibiting women from entering temples and castigating them as impure is squarely against the teachings of the Vedas. So, don’t fool people and don’t try to share wrong verses about great Santana Dharma . I think you should do some research before saying these stupid statements.

  • You should also inform people about inclusion of LGBTQ+ in ancient India. Bhavani temple in south India doesn’t allow men. A lot of temples in India don’t allow men. Different temples have different systems because, not all temples are made for prayer. Some temples have different rituals, where certain genders and certain people with certain problems aren’t allowed. A lot of temples don’t allow men.

  • To be honest, no biases but I’m super happy I’m a buddhist…we dont really have this practice of discrimination in our texts…although, most monks learned the ‘women are impure’ things from the society,The Buddha never saw a women as impure of ‘bad’ we always had this thing that everyone is equal before the dhamma…noone is an outcaste..and that we wont do things like discrimination in people..and i love this thought in my religion..

  • It’s misleading take on Vedas… don’t swaddle… In twenty-fourth chapter of Vrihad Devta, a list of women rishis in RigVed has been given which includes the names of Ghosha, Godha, Vishvavara, Aapala, Upnishad, Juhu, Adity, Indrani, Sarama,Romasha, Urvashi, Lopamudra, Yami, Shaswati, Surya, Savitri as being brahmavadinis. The seers of Rigveda’s sukta 10-134, 10-39,10- 40, 10-91, 10-95,10-107,10-109,10-154,10-159,10-189,5-28,8- 91 etc. were women.Adi-Shankaracharya had to enter into a spiritual debate with Bharati Devi. Her exposition of the scriptures was so marvellous that even eminent scholars were wonder-struck. Shankaracharya was unable to answer her profound questions and had to seek one month’s time to respond. In the ancient days Gargi, Maitreyi, Madalsa, Anusuiya, Arundhati, Devyani, Ahilya, Kunti, Satrupa, Vrinda, Mandodari, Tara, Dropadi, Damyanti, Gautami, Apala, Sulaha, Shavati, Ushija. Savitri, Lopamudra, Pratisheyi, Vaishalini, Bendula, Suneeti, Shakuntala, Pingala, Jarutkaar, Rohini, Bhadra, Vidula, Gandhari, Anjani, Seeta, Devhooti, Parvati, Aditi, Shachi. Satyavati, Sukanya, Shaivya etc. were highly learned and spirutally illumined women who were worshippers . Why not mention this swaddle?

  • We can’t deny a fact that girls perform puja more than boys do. I opine that God exists no where. If God exists in this earth, there will be no crime against women or against anyone else. I always suggest everyone please don’t waste your time to do such things. Always live life in real, not in any imagination. I am an atheist and i consider myself i don’t commit any work which is very dangerous for female or society. Girls please stop worshipping and live life at your own terms. Don’t let anyone dominate you.

  • Well, I am also against gender discrimination and menstrual cycle ‘impurity’ Comment. The main reason why woman were not allowed to work during periods was to give rest to them which we misinterpreted very differently over time. I just want to add the point that Sabarimalai issue was dragged into this gender equality for political reasons. There are some temples in India where men are not allowed. Some temples have their own legends which must be respected if u really follow that religion.

  • I believe in higher power(GOD) but not the religion. Hence I don’t follow any holy scriptures, religious practices and ideology. I mean why follow some outdated ideas in this era. Just because it was followed for a long time doesn’t mean it’s right. People followed certain practices for various reasons which was applicable during that time. It’s stupidity to blindly follow something without logic. Sadly most people simply follow certain practices with nonsensical argument, even in this era. I’m pretty sure GOD doesn’t even care wetr we pray to him or not or follow certain practices invented by humans. I mean GOD’s great even without us. People should chill and stop using GOD as an excuse to everything.

  • It’s totally idiotic Giving birth to a child is holy and Menstruation is not! BTW I don’t support the Shabrimala thing cause there are thousands of Aiyappa temples in South India were only women are allowed. In the shabrimala temple it’s believed that Aiyappa is in Brahamacharya because of that women entrance were prohibited. Other than that the article is as great as always Feel free to give me your valuable knowledge in the comments👌

  • The Sabarimala case is different the god is said to have taken a vow to become celibate so the restriction on the entry of women and your definition of religion is so cliche because Hinduism is to flexible and complex even lord rama slogan is the famous Janani janmabhumi but I agree with that there has been a historical discrimination for women

  • I saw your two or three articles for the first time today and I saw that you guys are constantly sharing wrong information about Santana Dharma (Hinduism). You cannot compare this great religion with any other because in this religion girls are considered as goddess and worshiped. (The yoni of Maa Kamakhya is worshiped in the temple. The goddess bleeds or menstruates.) Our Hindu ancestors were too smart and generous. Every custom made, had a reason tagged to it which worked well according to the time and place. But eventually things took a turn for bad when people merely started following the rituals blindly, without trying to comprehend the reason or modifying the ritual as per the time. This basically happened with the fall of Vedic era. For example- There was total ban on menstruating women to enter religious places or touch idol or any pure thing like food. As I mentioned, our ancestors thought very wisely. I would like to mention two things that were different from present time- 1. There were no absorbent napkins available that time and the cloth, after being used repeatedly, was unable to soak much fluid and would turn leaky soon. 2. People had common bath areas in the early civilizations.

  • 0:21 – I have read whole devi bhagwatam and didn’t find this verse anywhere. By the way, it’s a fact that all religions including hinduism have discriminated against women and their is a socio-anthropological explanation for that. Especially when it comes to hinduism bcoz it evolved naturally in the society and didn’t pop out of the head of some crazy freak. All the societies behave similarly in similar situation. But these woke girls do not have courage to quote any misogynist verse from sur al Nisa(the woman) from quran or any of Buddha’s quote from vinaya pitaka in which he says some of the shittiest things about women.

  • It has nothing to do with religion.it was just because back there weren’t any proper sanitary for that’s why and women were prohibited cuz they can take rest not because impure or something. our religion consider women as goddess we worship kamakhya devi.its just patriarchal society and some uneducated people made it impure. We are not impure. no god ever said that.stop saying that religion said. who the hell Want to puja and all while in hella painful period.

  • The notion of impurity from menstruation likely arises from the fact that back then there is no such thing as tampons or pads. Thus there was more reason to worry. However, because this injunction in Hinduism is based on perceptible premises, it can be ignored as binding injunctions are from those that are on imperceptible premises such as offering a certain plant to a certain deity or else the ritual not being fulfilled.

  • The prohibition against Vedas for women comes from them not having Upanayana. There is no verse in the Dharmasashtra explicitly prohibiting a women from greeting Upanayana. Many 2.66-67, according to Viramitrodaya, allows for Upanayana if the girl is to be a Brahmavadini but if not then Marriage is to be her Upanayana with the same function. The Asvalyana Grihya sutra includes women in the Samavartana rutua, implying that they did do Vedic study. Even in Panini’s times women Vedic scholars were there like the kāśakRtśnās. The practice became obsolete however.

  • Traditionally women are not allowed in temples during periods is for their own well being. The body is extremely weak in those 5 days and it cannot handle the rigorous religious customs and rituals. It can be considered as a time of “resting”. Menstruation of Goddesses is treated as a festival in Hinduism in many different states. Also there are religious customs in Hinduism performed exclusively by women .

  • I think sabrimala case is toyally different its not because woman are consider impure but the ayyappa who wanted to attain absolute celibacy which is complete different than normal celibacy where not even one drop of semen should go out inorder to chanellize the energy into meditation. He himself went up in the hills to avoid woman touvh and sight so that women cannot be restricted. Its all twisted never was women considered impure. Its just menstruating stage is the reproductive stage of women. There allot of hindu goddess temples where Men are not allowed. Menstruting godess and many more. I am true feminist but things arnt always black or white it has different shades and all arnt out of oppression. It that was so why no onw talks abt muslim woman who r forced to wear butkha allot if time but they are brainswashed that its for “protection”

  • The quote from the Devi Bhagavatam is an Arthavada (loosely a poetic exaggeration) to create aversion for the person trying to live a chaste life or do Brahmavharya or take up Sanyasi. I will admit that the scriptures asssumr a male audience, but there is an implied universalality to many of the teachings. The verse quotes could be applied in the reverse. What is enjoined is the avoidance of the opposite gender regardless of what it may be if one wants to live doing Brahmacharya.

  • Why don’t you use quran verses in your articles There is patriarchy at its highest. And in hinduism there are some temples where men are not allowed. And most importantly during periods women were not allowed because : 1 they become weak due to blood loss and 2 during periods their emotions fluctuate and as some temple offer strong chantings and also very strong vibes especially Shani temple they were prohibited during periods.

  • Aap jis Hinduism ki baat kar rahe hai usmein mughals aur britishers ki milawat Realty mein Hinduism mein toh gender equality thi ager aap mughals ke aane se pehle wale india mein jaoge toh uss time ager kisi ke teen bache hote the (2 boy and 1 girl) toh inn tino mein equal 33.33 % property distribute hoti dowry system toh Hinduism mein kahi hai hi nhi Baar aai impure ki toh Hinduism mein females bht respected hai yakin nhi hai toh real holy book padho Hinduism ki naki jismein mughalon aur britishers ki mixing hai Aur education ki baat aai toh Hinduism mein education ko female sse relate kiya jata hai Hinduism mein kisi female ke sath galat karna bht bada crime mana jata hai aur baat aai periods mein mandir na jane ki toh uska reason ye hai ki kati female rest kar saake naki isliye ki vo impure hai Apne jo bhi bola vo sab real Hinduism nhi hai vo sab mixing wala hai

  • Women are deemed equal in the original Hindu texts, which originate from the Vedic era. Manusmriti and other texts came after the mughals invaded India. Technically, Hinduism does not see women as impure, but rather as pure. Several temple carvings and scriptures depict women gurus with knowledge of the Vedas. While I agree that every religion has its own set of customs that simply cannot be followed today, let’s not talk about a religion when we don’t know everything about it. Almost all of the texts complement each other, so to get the full picture, you should read them all. Have you done so? I doubt it. Unlike ‘abrahamic Hinduism or modern Hinduism, my family follows the teachings of the Vedas and we believe women are equal, just as our gurus do. Please don’t judge a religion solely based on one scripture from a dark era in the history of India, especially when they have so many other scriptures available.

  • Well the world without Religion also becomes Broken as Shown by Communism In Russia and China they ended Up discriminating against people who didn’t adhere to there ideological views or people who just happened to be rich. Like both Mao Zedong and Joseph Stalin commited Genocide against people who refused to give up God and insisted following Religion. And Communism didn’t help alleviating the Status of Women and Patriarchy was heavily enforced in Both the countries. So a World without Religion is also pretty horrifying. I am an Atheist and am actually in Undergraduate of Anthropology. The article refered to Anthropology of Religion study at the end. And that’s something I am interested in pursuing in Masters and PhD. So the thing as a person who doesn’t who doesn’t follow Any Religion and believe in Any God. But still knows the Basic Mythology and Basic understanding of Books of God of Various Religion (like it’s Basic I am gonna Study Religion till PHD. And I just had Couple of Classes on Religion in My course and just read a few books out of my Interests) I think All World Religions main Message and the main Iron Clad Rule be it Hinduism or Islam or Christianity or Jews or Bhuddism (these are actually known as the Big 5 Religions because almost majority of the world follows one of the 5) “Humanity, Peaceful life and Never harm others” All World Religions are very thorough about why “A life in which dont harm others and Help others” is the best life. They explain that in very detail why you should do that.

  • Ever heard of Gargi, maitreyi, lopamudra, vaka ?? These women have written vedas!!!! Manusmriti is not Hinduism. Upanishads and geeta are. Please check what qualities krishna has asserted as feminine nature. Kaikayi, second wife of Dashrath used to accompany him in war fields. Satyabhama, second wife of krishna too was a warrior. Sita was a warrior. And the bottom line is, Upanishads clearly say you are not even body, let alone man woman or animal. You are pure consciousness, Brahman. Culture and traditions may have overtime absorbed into Religion. But Upanishads and geeta are Central.

  • Thank you Swaddle for your critical thinking which is always worth giving an ear to True, its time to understand that, ‘यत्र नार्यस्तु पूज्यन्ते रमन्ते तत्र देवताः’ -मनुस्मृति Meaning where the woman is respected and cared for, there the Gods reside Religion is a system that came as a medium that could communicate spiritual explorations and aspirations to all. And today, the truths of spirituality have been replaced by nonsensical faith, in all religions! Instead of rejecting religion, its necessary to understand WHERE and WHY did this degradation happen, and how it can be replaced today by studying history neutrally and exploring spirituality open mindedly

  • It’s one thing to question & another to be so blind. While I support most of the views on this website, For heaven’s sake Vedas asked a woman to do yajna everyday (which means also on periods). This is said by Kamakshya temple priests as well. Manu smriti is just a man called Manu’s notes (from smriti= RECOLLECTION only). Hinduism has already burnt it. Can y’all stop quoting from it? Also, we don’t know how far translations are correct as Maxmueller openly accepted the British paid him to deliberately write opposite of everything including twisting Aryan = noble man as an imaginary race that led to Indians hating eachother to this day, and The Holocaust. We should not spread more misinformation as if Manusmriti is valid to any Hindu. Even Manu himself claims it’s only “smriti”

  • see i dont know about other religions but in islam impurity is equally distributed among men and women for example you are supposed to wash your hands feet and legs in order to offer prayers in masjid if anyone who has eaten camels meat, garlic, onion must clean their mouth before offering prayers in the masjid but yes if this prayer is done in a private space rules of ablution would not apply only that the head must be covered and intention to pray is counted. so to sum it up islam is not discriminatory towards women or men

  • People consider children as “gifts from God” but the one who is gifted with the power of giving birth is consider sinful and the process through which giving birth is possible is considered impure. And people forget, culture and traditions are created by humans for upliftment of mankind, if those customs become a barrier in development, it is wise to demolish those customs.

  • Religion discriminates against women and yet women are typically more religious? And you are proposing just changing the outdated ideas of religion just enough to be accepted? I am sorry but you lost me. What makes you think that gender discrimination is the only outdated idea in religion? Because you were raised religious?

  • Why add the Sikh symbol in 2:59? When sikhi is completely equal for women. Sikh women can lead prayer, can freely go to house of worship & Sikh women have played a huge role throughout history (against empires, with Sikh female warriors & even played a role when the Sikh concept of langar was introduced). Swaddle inaccurate as always & cloaks everything as one. Ignorant to make such article if you can’t even dissect.

  • I don’t know if there are temples which completely prohibit women from entering. If that’s the case then it is wrong. But if only women who are mensurating are not allowed then there is a reason behind it. Our college made a play on mensuration, so we did a thorough research and I feel your article lack somethings. Earlier temples were only made at the location, where there was some upward energy. I don’t know how they found that but they did. In such locations when you are mensurating the upward energy cause harm to your body, that’s why women were told not to go on those days. But now temples are being made anywhere without that upward energy thing. So, it is safe to go to your local temples but the temples which are ancient could harm your body. And in those days women were told not to go to kitchen because of the pain not because they were dirty. It feels like generations were playing Chinese whisper idk why people came to the latter conclusion and such messages was passed.

  • Lol demeaning hinduism the only religion which have female godess and your LGBT god also and also have 51 Divya shaktipeeth dedicated to womens Rani laxmibai, ahilyabai holkar, Naiki Devi all were warriors and there were more we can’t imagine our culture without these women’s so please stop spreading propaganda

  • The doctrine of original sin, a.k.a. the fall of humankind, was in invented in the 11th century by Augustine, a Christian monk who partied hard, had several baby mummas and generally broke all his vows. Up until this time free will, where everyone is responsible for their own choices and actions, was Church doctrine. Then Augustine that because he wanted to be true and chaste and holy and wasn’t, free will didn’t exist or he would automatically be those things because that’s what he wanted to be. So he invented the doctrine of original sin, where Eve was the cause of the fall by tempting Adam with the fruit of the tree of knowledge. Totally ignored where Eve was deceived by the male serpent and that Adam was a grown up man who decided to eat the apple fully knowing it was wrong. All of which very conveniently also meant Augustine didn’t have to take responsibility for being a libertine and correcting his life. And in spite of his far from exemplary life, Augustine still somehow ended up being made a saint. 🙄 The doctrine of original sin was used to blame a deceived Eve for everything and to pass that blame on to all women, and was then used as an excuse to totally subjugate women in all ways. Meanwhile Adam, who deliberately chose disobedient, was given a free pass and all his descendant elevated to total control over women. Including controlling women’s sexually and insisting on their purity so the patriarchal line remained intact instead of using matriarchal line, where a baby’s birth could be witness and leave no doubt about the child’s mother.

  • Why didn’t swaddle mention women’s right in Islam, cuz they have none, nice escape. As far as why you pick Ambedkar translation of Manusmriti to give validity to your agenda, I don’t know. When you have Women Rishika given their contribution in the Vedas, then how come they can’t chant mantra. This clearly shows Ambedkar agenda, the guy was not a historian, he didn’t know Sankrit, ladies and gentlemen. At most, he would have read English translation of the Manusmriti done by British indologist.

  • @0:46 Ambedkar was a great man. Obviously. But he confessed himself that he never read manusmruti in Sanskrit. He didn’t know the language. He read a translated copy, which was designed to misinform people by the British. If Manusmruti truly says such a thing, I’d like the real reference from the book itself. Bad job Swaddle. Do ur due diligence.

  • Sikhism is the only religion which treats woman equally as men, they do Horseriding, play Gathka and wear same dress termed Chola as their equals . No hunger trips for husbands,no ban to enter religious puja or place on the name of Impurity . As Guru Nanak said,” So kyo manda akhiye, jit jamme rajan” Meaning : Why curse her,who gives birth to Kings Not a religious fanat,Just clearing facts . Also if u find a sikh family, following any ritual of considering women impure, they definitely not listening to Guru Granth Sahib which at the end is a personal choice .

  • First of all you should present exact original source. 0:19 same Devi Bhagwat Purana says this also DeviBhagwatam 9.38.1-6 “पितुः शतगुणा माता गौरवे चेति निश्चितम् । मातुः शतगुणः पूज्यो ज्ञानदाता गुरुः प्रभो ॥ ६ ॥” The Mother is 100 times better than father. But a Guru is 100 times better than a Mother. So O Yama! you are my Guru and give me knowledge. 0:19 shloka is just part of this whole shloka where Savitri is talking to Yama and want to get Gyana. Here Hyperbole part of speech is used by Savitri to get Gyan from Yama. Don’t cherry pick dharmik texts to push your agenda, do it openly, many websites are doing it openly you can too. And yes women are allowed in Sanatan Dharmik places. But why women are not in power in any communist countries till date make one article on that please.

  • Ive been perusal your articles for a long time and I love them all. But when it comes to women of certain age being prohibiten to some particular temple is not about patriarchy or sexism. There has been so many temples in India where men are not allowed too. We can’t question the traditions that are there for centuries while we aren’t first known about the Temple’s history, why it is been made and the reason behind it. FACT: During menstruation, our energies will be going down… Cmon people you say you want period leave during menstruation and again say we want permission to enter a temple. Earlier women were not used to go temple during these days because they were supposed to get sufficient rest during that time. Although these days we have got pads, tampons and cups too; it doesn’t make a difference. It’s just that the biological changes that has been happening with a woman at that time doesn’t go in hand with the energy the diety has been consecrated in a particular space. It has got nothing to do with discrimination. You CANNOT BRING LOGIC TO A RELIGIOUS PLACE AND CANNOT APPLY RELIGIOUS IDEAS TO LOGIC.

  • Women’s should not dominate mens mens should not dominate women’s both should have mutual respect love caring sympathy empathy patience tolerence with each other there should not be domestic violences and dowry harassment there should not be any problem from the mother in law father in law husbands brothers and sisters puguntha veedu is not compulsory marriage sex child births is not compulsory

  • Mr./miss religion doesn’t and never will consider women impure it just tries to reduce thier work…Some ill minded people or rather say it stereotypes had spread this all around, whose thinking capacity was limited to a very narrow space. It’s just an old cliche by them…….plz don’t use the world religion..it is not just a world it’s an emotion…..

  • Unfortunately, it is misunderstood by people. Olden days women were made to sit in a seperate room or not enter kitchen was because during periods women need rest thats why they were told not to enter kitchen. And temple because the center of temple has magnetic effect which will have direct effect on uterus. And now people without understanding are talking nonsense! And some people who wants to shame hinduism are takin ng advantage!

  • Excuse me lady could you help me find any source where women’s rights are suppressed in Shiki? Women are allowed in gurdwaras doesn’t matter if they are bleeding from their vagina. It doesn’t matter what colour, class, subcaste or religion they are from. Everybody is equally treated and welcomed. Please do your homework nicely. By the way great choice of topic.

  • Hinduism always supported women and there was a equality between both . But time to time things changed and many misconceptions happened. In ancient times womens were asked to relax and don’t do any specific work because that time there body was weaker and suffers from lots of painn in many cases they were even allowed to workship . I am girl doesn’t want to specify the cast but whenever am on my periods almost my whole family knows and they were never like yeh mat karo woh mat karo . And even I also do pooja so .. Btw I am a girl and I have also gone to shani shingnapur with my whole family and also visited the temple

  • Well this article shows a wrong translation of manusmriti and Devi bhagwati puran and telling wrong costumes!! you can pray to Hanuman during periods because in his Panchmukhi swaroop he accepts prayers in any form as varah!! My mother is a housewife and even during her periods she is allowed to do house work (including kitchen) even when we help her she disagree to let us cook!! Women are considered as Devi and has been given utmost respect in Hinduism! please Don’t spread these misinformation!! Every oppression happens in Hinduism is social and not religious!! You cannot provide me any right translation of oppression!

  • Women were not allowed in temples because in earlier days women didn’t have sanitary pads, so they might pollute the temple premises even if they don’t want to do it, so the priests suggested that they should stay in house and avoid going to temples, there is no discrimination against women in hinduism.

  • let me tell u very clearly. there r devi mandirs all across this nation, and especially kamakhya mandir that worships the uterine part of the female power. who the hell told u that we consider periods impure. no we dont. our culture has always celebrated the first and upcoming periods of a woman. i personally was surprised when i came of age and my entire family rejoiced at it. period blood is treated with much respect and care, and so is the woman. i cant vouch for the other cultures, but for sanatanis, a woman is the mother of the entire universe. she is the topmost power, thats why the word shakti is feminine in our culture. go research well and further before making such false claims and misleading the society. i’m as proud of my open minded scientific and caring culture as i am to be a woman worshipped just as the goddess on the nine days of the sacred navratri

  • Is a fact I accept everything you said this article but like the ones the gods follow brahmacharya are not supposed to see any women except there in laws mothers and sisters and are forbidden to do any form of sexual activity with them as well as much as i support feminism and growing equality i am also offended by the decreasing knowledge of religion and its misinterpretations because of these things i want to say that please to all the women (not the ones below 13) all of you should not go to hanuman ji aur mahakal temple please

  • So, may be the roots of women discrimination comes through property distribution setup. I would also want to highlight that there are many places in south Indian temples and festivities where only women are allowed (men of reproductive age till about 55-60 are nt allowed ) Why does female rights have to come to religious practice. I don’t believe men and women are equal …i just beleive they should get equal opportunity…if you have an issue with this type of setup…start your own practice to only include women and dont disturb a established setup. Considering periods as a impure thing is stupidity at the same time trying to get into someone’s faith because you think it’s nt right is also stupid. Wokeism on heights

  • Would Like to weigh in ..all facts were right till last 5 sec..but as soon she said not to deny religion ..her all hardwork got wasted….To make a river fresh,we need to clean it..same to make human thinking fresh, religion should be banned ..there is no scope of betterment in any religion.. religion makes one mental Prisoners..and women should be the first one to disown idol worship and fasting

  • Read the comment sections and laugh at the ignorance and foolishness of fellow Indians. Most of them (or probably none of them) have read any scriptures, they don’t know the meaning of a temple, they think what they follow in their home, society or community is what written in the scriptures. 99.99% of current generation Hindus, neither there parents know anything about the Satana Dharma, most they know is, go to temple of festivals, do puja, ask for blessing, prasad and follow what Panditji says and in case you get curious, read English translation of foreigners or propogandist devdutt.

  • In sabrimala women are not allowed because male God residing thier had taken celebacy and we have a ancient belief that the god will get angry with women presence and perverse thinking, that’s why we man had to perform celebacy for 2 week’s before it’s not related to menstruation but our belief and dedication to god but why don’t you and supreme court able to digest this simple fact and enjoy 😎 🎉🎉your victimhood.

  • Why did you put Khanda sikh religious symbol in your article? There was no need as Women are equal to men in sikhism. First you should have researched on sikhism than make a article. Guru Nanak Dev ji condemned and rejected every practice which were inferior for women. Guru ji said from women king is born, to women a man marry, man need a woman in every aspect of life so why call her bad. He also said how much you do ritual bath your impurity of mind will never go unless you meditate in the name of god. He even rejected jeneu – sacred thread because his sister Bibi Nanaki(women in general) was not allowed to wear that thread.. This level of gender equality he promoted.

  • First women’s should speak about menstrual blood to the boys and to the Roman Catholic priest she should speak openly so the boys will respect the womens then gang rapes amd murders will not increase abolishing the porn articles sex articles hugging kissing udaluravu sexuravu paliyal uravu women’s and mens are sitting naked evan avalukka madiyil paduparhum aval evanukka madiyil padupathum unjalil aduvathum paduvathum blood shed violences fight extramarital affairs kallakadhal kadhal odipodhal cimemas serials aangalin mulaiya nasamaghittu poghuthu

  • These are not the main scriptures of Hinduism. That’s it. In Veda, vedant and upnishad . No such thing are said. You have not read manyyyy text and did not understood it,where women are considered supeior than male… and also in main text,it was emphasized that women and make are equal. Both are atman. How can you misinterpret and shead light on the textbook that are not even mainstream ! Like girl, like sis. That ain’t it. What society follow isn’t what religion is about. Religion is about supreme. People will try to suppress everyone and use religion as an excuse, doesn’t mean it is right. It is so biased article, and lion like it’s trying to affirm hinduphobia . Calm down, as a girl who have ACTUALLY read it, i can assure your version is totally misleading Right now, you are not even talking about women empowerment but are just trying to use it as agenda. Don’t use these type of fake tactics and don’t play girl card here. I know the situation as I live here, but it’s not because of religion, it’s because of mentality. Their mentality is Wrong, so is your flawed understanding and misplaced target of frustration You are not even focused on a point.

  • Womens are mothers femininity of women is more of psychological thing rather than just physical body, these demons have associated women with a tool of pleasure and hence denied completely the real emotional aspect of feminine a women naturally as per psychology is more civilised then men, feminine and masculine are just state of beings and everybody should realised the state of being of feminine (I.e.love, care, peace, emotions etc) and as per me psychologically only feminine should exist because feminine and masculine are qualites, and men and women are just physical difference of this animal body, and if we say nature is mother than also only men and women are both feminine because both are part of mother nature

  • Every beliefs every custom had a limitation. It was made for the time ( as per the possibilities and limitation of that time) when it was made, not a one to follow till the last life on earth. We amend our constitution then why can’t we change theses steriotypes( belives) as they are no longer such situations prevailed. Really the society has to change or atleast don’t have to put their these ideas on those who want a change ( I mean in any area).

  • Are you seriously that ignorant? ALL RELIGIONS??? The menstruation of the divine mother is celebrated as Ambubachi throughout all the areas in proximity to the Kamakhya devi Temple. The Divine Mother is worshipped in Shakta as the source of all creations and the creator of the trideva themselves. You say ALL RELIGIONS while living in the same land where the religion originated in which omen are treated with more respect than men themselves. Every women is a form of Shakti. Every God-Goddess couple starts with the name of the Goddess first for example LaxmiNarayana GauriShankar SiyaRam RadhaKrishna etc. and yet you say ALL RELIGIONS? I am disappointed to see that the people of the land of Gods itself dont know the truth about what happens here. There has got to be a way to pacify all this Ignorance and foolery.

  • Honestly, my life got so much easier when i just said that i want to be a saint. I had been so afraid to desire it for a long while and i felt i didn’t have to want it because it demanded so much, but i have never been more glad of admitting anything else. I’m falling every single minute of the day, but grace gets me back up. I absolutely love my big sister, St. Therese of Lisieux. She had it right. We are called to love. Love is the only language common among saints, don’t matter if you got baptized at a young age or the day before your earthly departure. Love is the wind on these heavenly sails🙏🏾Catholic ladies, let’s be saints in the most awesome way possible. Let’s not harden our hearts and just call unto God for His Strength is made perfect in our weakness

  • Bingo. Authority comes from walking the talk in terms of one’s holiness. Mother Teresa stood up in front of a graduating class of Harvard Law and declared that abortion was the greatest poverty of our times. They gave her a standing ovation. If I or someone less holy stood up at that commencement and declared this, we’d be torn apart. Why? Because in Mother Teresa, her holiness and willingness to serve all people as the Gospel calls us all to, she could speak from the authority that this afforded her. Sadly, those advocating women priests are still focused on ‘who’s the boss’ rather than ‘be Holy as your Heavenly Father is holy.’ (Mt 5). They also miss it on the nature of the Church and her authority. We are not Protestants in which we can create rules and teachings on a whim. It does not create Dogma, it discovers it. It does not have authority to create Dogma and so cannot, as JP II clearly stated, overstep its delegated authority to create women priests.

  • @CoryTheRaven Oh come on! What if I were to tell you that you’re not allowed to commit murder or have an abortion or sexually abuse a child? Would that be paternalistic? Can adult men never tell adult women not to do certain things?! As for equality, the only equality that matters is our equal opportunity to be saints, to do the will of God radically. If that’s a “runner-up prize” to being a priest, then you and I are on very different pages.

  • This is a first-class exercise in how not to answer a question by changing the subject, even though the subject changed to is the more important. Then you can give the impression that the question actually asked is misguided or not important at all. Frankly, this cheap avoidance tactic will not do, especially from a great Catholic scholar and teacher of Robert Barron’s status.

  • With respect to the Bishop, he has side-stepped the issue. The question wasn’t whether Catholicism allowed women to be saints, but rather about priesthood. If we judge that saints have more power/importance to the church and they can be male or female, then why should it not apply to priests (who are inferior accordingly). Priests have a lot of power in the church – they’re someone you can physically interact with (as opposed to saints). The issue is, shouldn’t this power also be available to women, who are equal under God? Now you can make the argument that men are more suited for priesthood, but that is more dubious and the Bishop does not make that argument anyway. In terms of my background I am Protestant, so I’m definitely open to perspectives from Catholics 🙂

  • 1 TIMOTHY 2:11 Let a woman(b) learn in silence with full submission. 12 I permit no woman(c) to teach or to have authority over a man;(d) she is to keep silent. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve; 14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. 15 Yet she will be saved through childbearing, provided they continue in faith and love and holiness, with modesty.

  • There’s a reason we call priests “Father” and not “Mother”. The priest in the sacraments is In Persona Christi, or in the person of Christ, taking on the role of Christ, and Jesus works through the priest in the sacraments. Since this is true, it makes sense to say that a woman cannot be a priest because she cannot be In Persona Christi, simply because Jesus Christ is a man, and the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all masculine in nature and essence, not feminine.

  • 🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 🙌 Power in the Church is not primarily institutional; it’s derived from holiness and being a saint who websites the power of Christ. 00:28 🌟 Saints, regardless of gender or age, hold true power in the Church by allowing Christ to work through them in transformative ways. 00:58 🙏 You don’t need to be a priest to pursue holiness; becoming a saint is attainable for anyone, and it’s the primary goal of the Church for all individuals. 01:30 ✝️ The purpose of priests in the Church is to serve the laity, making them holy; priests are servants of sanctity, and everyone’s aim should be to become a saint. Made with HARPA AI

  • Hear that ladies? Your power comes from being saints, not from being bishops and controlling the finances, property, personnel, making the rules, running the diocese, being able to dispense the sacraments, hiring/firing, deciding who becomes bishops, and on and on. Those kinds of bromides always come from people who already have the power.

  • That was a clear deviation from the question! Please answer Why the institution doesn’t allow women to be priests? Where in the Bible does it state that women cannot be priests? A Bishop has the same authority as the Pope, you know this. I want to hear your personal opinion on the matter of why the Catholic institution not the religion prevents women from being priests and blessing the Eucharist? I have heard such beautiful answers from you in your other articles which is why I subscribe to this website, but this was Wrong. If for some institutional reason you aren’t allowed to express your interpretation of the Bible on this subject please state so, but don’t use deviation tactics. You are SO much better than that’s! I had asked you a question to you during the world youth day in Poland and you answered beautifully! But listening to this…

  • @CoryTheRaven You really think that the call to sanctity is tantamount to saying “don’t worry your pretty little heads about it”?!! Tell that to Edith Stein, Felicity and Perpetua, Agatha, Lucy, Cecelia, and all the other women martyrs. And while you’re at it, you could mention it to Mother Teresa, Mother Cabrini, Katharine Drexel, and all the other women saints who lived gritty and deeply challenging lives of service.

  • If looked at superficially it seems as though he didn’t answer the question. But the Bishop did say “it’s a famously complicated issue and I can’t possibly get into all the angles of it. A lot of it has to do with power”. In other words, I cannot fully answer your question but I will talk a little bit about one of the many angles this issue has. The people asking this question think that this is a simple issue, since they view it so superficially, and, therefore, expect simple and straightforward answer. If you really want to know begin educating yourself on Catholicism and authentically living it out: then ask the Lord to illuminate this to you. And for those who say that “I won’t join the Catholic Church unless it allows women to be priest do not really want to join the Catholic Church. Instead, they want to the Church to bend to their whims and wants. They don’t want to serve (which is the role of priest toward the laity) instead they want power. Exactly what Lucifer does to God: “Non serviam” (I will not serve you). All he wanted was power.

  • Mary the Mother is honored most high, there are hundreds of Catholic Saints that were women, incredibly honored, as is the value of a mother to the domestic church, our own homes and families, women can also read scripture during Mass as a lector, and distribute Communion to the faithful as an EMU, directly beside a priest or deacon, so it can’t be said the Catholic church holds women in a lower value simply because of the “yeah but…” they “can’t be priests” argument. There are several Protestant Churches that are open to this, and followers that believe in it should be there…to support it.

  • when a priest is conducting a mass, he is in the position of Christ as he shares the word of God and breaks the bread. Christ was a man. So priests should be men. Don’t feel too bad for Catholic Christian women, though. Women have many other options to persue a life of vocation, and to serve the church. Non christian feminists are out here screaming for equality, but if catholic women had a serious problem with this, they would be yelling outside of the Vatican. Don’t go poking your nose through something you don’t understand. If you want to share an opinion, educate yourself! 🙂 Peace and love! 😘
