Netflix’s The Witcher, based on the book series by Andrzej Sapkowski, has revealed new images of its cast. The medallion worn as a necklace in the first show did not have any special powers, but it could detect monsters or magic and vibrate when a monster was nearby or close to a Place of Power. The significance of Geralt’s medallion came from how he received it.
The Witcher season 2 will have a different look for Geralt of Rivia, with Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt of Rivia. The showrunner explains that the medallions are a symbol of a Witcher’s profession and indicate which school any given Witcher hails from. The change in the look of the medallion may be due to time delays, as the head-shaped one was used for decades already.
Three of the main characters have specific medallions associated with them, which play a more central role than in the books, videogames, and comics. The famous pendant, created in Poland by a fan of the video games developed by CD Projekt Red, is used to designate who can take for-hire work in the deadly profession. The broach serves as a cutler catcher, making it easier to deflect blows or overpower an enemy.
The Witcher Netflix series is now streaming Season 3, featuring the Geralt Meteorite Medallion Necklace and the Witcher Yennefer. The series has received mixed reviews from viewers, but fans of the original series continue to search for similarities between the video games and the show.

Into the Witcher-verse. Which Version of Geralt is your favorite? Doug Cockle? Henry Cavill? Michał Żebrowski? Peter Kenny?
📹 Freya Allan LOVES Henry Cavill 😂
The Witcher Season 3 Freya Allan has a tattoo of Henry Cavill…. or does she #shorts #thewitcher #witcher #freyaallan …
It’s funny how mainstream media adaptions tend to turn everyone into selfish miserable pricks. They want to make everything so “realistic” and “relatable” that the fantasy becomes no longer desirable. The world of the witcher is horrible with monsters, famine, disease and curses. Yet the genuinely good, sympathetic characters with a good heart still made it something to enjoy, a world where hapiness can be found. The conclusion of the actor sumarrises it perfectly. Netflix have perfectly created a world with no redeemable qualities.
“We need to make this dramatic somehow. Ciri’s life needs to be in danger.” “Well, Ciri from the books is naïve and impetuous when she’s young. Maybe she disobeys Geralt and unwittingly puts herself in danger?” “No, no, that’s way too close to the whole princess-in-peril trope, and worse, it sets her up for a character arc. We can’t have that. Oh! I know! Let’s make one of her surrogate parents, the one who hunts monsters for a living, put her in harm’s way because nothing else will work, while the other actively tries to kill her for selfish reasons.”
Lately I’ve been reading Blood of Elves and listening to the Sword of Destiny on Audible,,,, I’ve come to the conclusion that Geralt is actually a really kind person who is constantly capable of mercy and compassion to the people who really need it, tells his kid not to swear, humors people he doesn’t like because he still has manners, and would help a sick woman do her business in the bushes because he’s just Like That. I feel bad for Henry Cavill because he undoubtedly came to the same conclusions I did and still was given so little to work with from the writers of the Netflix show.
Honestly Yen putting Ciris life at risk is the most unbelievable part lol Ciri has never refered ro Geralt as her dad even tho obviously she does feel he is, but she has called Yen “Mom” a lot, she literally got her body completly destroyed by Vilgefortz trying to find Ciri while Geralt was in Toussaint chillin, so yeah this is just a Momma Yen apreciation comment
I was introduced to Witcher through Season 1 of the Netflix series and it peaked my interest. Bought Witcher 3 immediately after the last episode and spent the first 3 months of 2020 completely blown away by how great the game is. Then I bought the audio books and listed to them at work for the next few months. I was stoked that Netflix was gonna adapt the books, then Season 2 happened. I hope Henry Cavill finds his dream role and I hope we can have a faithfully adapted Witcher series one day.
I was growing up reading witcher books, so I was really hyped when they decided to make netflix serial for the witcher. There is old Polish one, but they really did it dirty, so I was like “Yeah now is the time!”. Well, it wasn’t and netflix somehow managed to make it worse than it’s predecessor from 2002. First season left me confused and miserable. I watched 2nd with sole purpose poking fun of it. Play the games, read the books. Witcher cinematography is cursed af.
Netflix had such a golden opportunity with this series. They had a very popular fantasy ip and Henry Cavill at the lead role. Not only that, Henry was actually passionate about his character. This was a rare opportunity and it could have been big enough to rival game of thrones, lauren has cost them way more than just money.
As someone who just started reading the books (halfway through a time of contempt right now), something I feel the Netflix series has royally screwed up is the relationship between Geralt and Dandelion. They are best friends, two rapscallions getting into all sorts of trouble together. Sure Geralt gets annoyed with Dandelion at times but it is still very endearing. In the show they play on the troupe of the annoying scoundrel who constantly annoys the hero of the story, they make it seem like Geralt hates Dandelion and just wants him to leave him alone. Small detail but completely changes the way you view Geralt in the way he treats/speaks to Dandelion and the friendship the two of them share
I love how they did an entire ad campaign on how Cavill is such a huge Witcher nerd, that he even went as far as to change prop designs to better fit the flair and style Geralt fought with in the games. Everytbing that came to light proved that was bullshit. They didnt give a damn about Geralt’s word.
I remember perusal the first season of the Netflix series and the only reaction was “wtf did i just watch”, then some ppl told me the second season was way better so i decided to give it a shot, cause anyway “it couldn’t be worst than the first” i thought… But it was even more ridiculous xD i really can’t explain how it became popular, probably only for Cavill in tight pants :p
Well, Vesemir did actually gave mutagens to Ciri in the books, however they were only weak mushrooms that promoted her physical development and nothing serious – more like gym supplements. He wondered about making her go through entire process and even asked Triss about it, but Triss was worried that those mushrooms, beside their hallucinogenic qualities, could stomp Ciri’s development as a woman, so he stopped.
My ex begged me to watch this show with her “its so good and you love the Witcher” within like 2 episodes she refused to watch any more with me because I spent the WHOLE TIME going “what the fuck”. Eventually when I explained the games/novels story she was like “why is it so different” even then I didn’t realize just how badly they fucked this sideways no wonder Henry was losing it on set.
Yeap, i can forgive the bad writing, the bad acting, the bad stories but on thing i cant forgive or ignore is that they destroyed the characters, one thing you never do when adapting someone’s work, even if you go your own way with the stories, is to change how characters would act, that isnt the witcher anymore, that isnt Yennefer, this isnt Vesemir, they cannot be redeemed after such insult and thats why the witcher was done after season 2. It wasnt done when Cavil left, it was done after what they did to the characters in season 2.
When I started the TV show I was happy with the liberties they were taking with the material, after all the books started being a sort of spoof or satire on fairy tales witha bit of social commentary and became very much self-aware about how much of an epic fantasy cliché the whole “child of destiny” story saga ended up. I mean, although incredible characters and stuning world building, the books never took themselves too seriously: they were romantic, adventurous, interesting, disgusting, desturbing, cerebral, dark, but mostly they were allow to be lot of fun. I thought the Netflix show would take these amazing Witcher stories and make something more palatable for tv audiences without losing the essential: the fun and interesting. It turned out the fun was dumb down for general audiences and the interesting was very limited, mostly name-dropping for the “basement swellers” riding the “geek culture” train nowadays. Though some things were great about the first season (the only one I could tolerate): for example, the yennefer bits were truly amazing, felt like a different show when she was around, although the Ciri ones were very very cringe, I think mostly because of that awful actress that played her.
To be fair game Geralt and book Geralt are quite different from each other too. Physically, for example, book Geralt is skinny, has a gaunt, unattractive face, sunken eyes, (no cat irises), is a little short and walks with a slight limp that gets better or worse depending on the weather. His voice is grating, his hair is thin and wispy, and he often smells. A far cry from the adonas in the games.
The “Vesemir want to conduct the Trial Of The Grasses on Ciri” alone is already revelant of the quality of the serie. Moreover when it is specified in the third book that “Of all the previous witchers the only one left was Vesemir but he was a swordmaster, he had no knowledge of how to use the mutagens.”
I like how everyone acted surprised Cavil left the show when he literally had it within his contract that he could leave the show if he felt it wasn’t respecting the source material. The show is written by people who openly dislike the Witcher books. He had to fight tooth and nail to try to keep the show even remotely in touch with the source material all while some of the crew threw out claims of him being a diva and whatnot. If you think season 2 was bad with straying even further from the books then strap in for whatever absolute train wreck they wrote up for s3 to literally make the man quit what he described as his dream role.
So, I never played the games or read the books. My curiosity was peaked when the Netflix series came out, then I heard about all the trouble Henry Cavill was having with the role BECAUSE of the writing & the direction they wanted to take the show in. This article just makes me realize how much Cavill must have been frustrated with the role having played the games, & read the books & being a fan of it himself. Props to @HenryCavill for sticking with it so long, & for @Matthew McCleskey of this article for making me realize just how off the show it. 👍👍
Game Geralt: “what was the biggest battle you’ll be remembered for then?” Show Geralt: “I fought against an opponent know as Netflix, I decided the best course of action was to walk away in the end.” Game Geralt: “I would have slayed them, and taken my team and started my own thing, why didn’t you do that?” Show Geralt: “because… Warhammer…” Game Geralt: “…what?-” Show Geralt: “-what.”
I didn’t even need to have read the books to know they were going off script. The difference in some scenes was so obvious, because some of them were actually from the books and then the others were made up by the writers and we could all see which were the shitty ones. Kaer Morhen, the secret castle that no one is allowed to know about except witchers, was a host of an orgy💀💀 like cmon
