  • Knowing the material can be more important than knowing the clean code. Light colored natural fibers like cotton or rayon are likely to turn brown with water cleaning. Synthetic fibers (in my experience) will not. The browning is a reaction to the natural fibers. I’ve seen many manufactures put a generic “S” code on synthetic materials. I’ve always steamed them with water anyways and haven’t had any be damaged. The water cleaning gets the best results. Also, the furniture is almost always dirtier than you can see. Furniture fibers filter dust out of the air the same way an air filter does. And when you sit on the furniture, your blasting that dust up into your lungs. Best thing to do is clean your furniture at least once a year but we all know someone who has had the same gross couch since college and thinks it’s clean enough lol

  • I have a 3 piece furniture set with the browning/watermarking like you show at 1:23 . What’s odd is that it just happened to all the pieces of furniture a few months after they were last professionally cleaned and a protectant added on top of the protectant that was already there and it’s grown worse over time. I had a highly rated carpet cleaner who did great work with our carpets, but took a cushion back to the shop and couldn’t get the marks out. None of the tags have any rating on how to clean the fabric. Any ideas what happened and how to fix?

  • Either I was taught wrong or you’re doing it wrong. When I extract, I spray the water only when moving the head of the extractor towards me, backwards. It allows the water to be immediatelly sucked up, thats what gets the dirt out of the upholstery, it creates a sorf of whirl and thats what gets it clean. Obviously the way you do it you suck up the water too but it seems to me like less effective and not so proffesional way to do it. You can let me know if I’m wrong but to me it makes sense 🙂

  • The recliner my aunt gave my mom was taken by my brother and he put it in his room and he gave it to me and it is absolutely disgusting! There are random dark, dirt spot looking spots and it’s just darker than it was. It was like an olive green before he took it. Now I have no idea what color it is. My brother is disgusting and never showers and cleans anything. Idk how he lives with himself
