Tesla has announced plans to add new Supercharger equipment to its network, allowing non-Tesla EVs to charge up. The company will have 10 of its stalls equipped with a way for Combined Charging System (CCS) equipped electric cars to charge. Tesla’s Magic Dock solution, which morphs into a NACS Supercharger, is a game-changing EV accessory that allows other EVs not Tesla vehicles to charge up at Tesla Superchargers.
The Magic Dock adapter is provided at the charging post and will be available for all EVs to charge with. The first of these units have been spotted in upstate New York. The chargers are designed to get over a supercharger, and the new Magic Dock (aka CCS adapter) attaches to the top opening in the pedestal when not in use. To use a Magic Dock adapter while Supercharging, users must unlock the adapter before following the Supercharging steps.
In February, Tesla officially launched the new Supercharger stations with Magic Dock as a way to onboard non-Tesla EV owners to the Supercharger. The Magic Dock is a built-in CCS in adapter at certain Tesla Superchargers, open to all CCS vehicles. It is a fast DC charger that bypasses the car on-board charger and puts energy directly into the battery.
The Magic Dock Supercharger ramp enables more non-Tesla vehicles to use Tesla Supercharger stations across the United States.
